Bit of a silly story (eadible, tho)
fun fights, lot of control over a fight, usually few ways to resolve things.
Whoever of us do you believe, you should know if you like it by lvl 4 or 5.
btw. there is few weird things about the build.
If you'll make a ranged char (which you could, because they're pretty strong), remember that
"Warfare" skill scales better with your dmg than "Ranged" skill.
Also, wind spells are great (teleportation in particular).
If you make a mage, it's probably smart to make them either wind/water or earth/fire, those have nice synergy with each other.
Combat system is okay, writing is really bad
>Excessive cringe
cmon anon, it isn't THAT bad
solid 78/100 in my book
I'm 3 hours in
I've had one(1) battle and the rest of the time has been running circles in the first town playing fricking Sherlock Homes

-It's sounds cliche af, but pay attention to your surroundings. Barrels (some with oil), puddles of water, oil, rain...
-The teleportation skill is air skill lvl2 at some point you may give that much of an air magic to everyone and get them teleport skill. Positioning is pretty important here and 4 guys with tp make that much easier.
-Don't skip crafting, it's perfectly normal to make yourself a new weapon every level or two. And cheap, if I remember correctly.
No need to sperg out
i dont mind story and exploring but its still a game and combat/progression has always been the most fun/engaging part of RPG games
nta
But anon, just make a step outside the main gates, you should be able to do that already
don't fight anything above your lvl (or ur lvl+1, I don't remember 2bh).
Didn't you have fights in that short maze and on your way to the city, tho?

When does the fun start
, I played it a few years ago and the writing was just plain bad, you can't fix it by changing what you say to npc >maybe you shouldn't have used the game for your troony powerfantasy

I wanna sink my teeth into one of these CRPGs but I don't know which franchise is best for a first timer. I'm not adverse to reading but I'd also like one with some fun combat so that leaves me with the following;
>Divinity Original Sin >Pillars of Eternity >Pathfinder
avoid Pathfinder like the plague unless you're a dnd autist who knows all the rulesets
Pillars is very beginner friendly, so is divinity. Choose either of those but make sure to play the games in order. Especially with PoE, the 2nd game will make 0 sense if you dont play through first.
Divinity is a bad game. Pillars and Pathfinder are equally good choices IMO as both are rather pick up and play. Pathfinder might seem overwhelming due to the sheer amount of choices available, but it's really a rather simple system at its core, conversely Pillars doesn't have nearly as many choices, but gets a little more intricate as you dig into it.

>I wanna sink my teeth into one of these CRPGs but I don't know which franchise is best for a first timer.
You have to pick your poison really >D:OS
Ultima derivative, has a passable gimmick with creating a couple of characters instead of just one to play as, and these characters will often disagree on decisions you have to take according to the personalities you choose for them, unfortunately the whole thing is a literal coin toss mechanic so it's more annoying than it is entertaining.
Battle wise it's pretty dumbed down and easy, and it has sort of original mechanics, but it's very gimmicky and not really rooted in the the classic "CRPG" model, for better or worse, it is also the least linear of the three games you chose, but still largely linear, also very lighthearted and quite self aware of being largely a comedy. >PoE
More classic CRPG formula compared to D:OS, rooted in the Bioware formula, so you'll have to read a lot of bland, flavourless shit written by Sawyer as he tries to flex his failed novelist skills on you, more often than not backfiring in the process because everything is dreadfully boring, a couple of characters are passable though and largely more interesting than either PF or D:OS, except the game (and Sawyer) takes itself far too seriously.
Gameplay wise it's 3.5E for hipster, bad news is that it's still d20 shit at its core, good news is that it's not even nearly as bloated with trash like PF. >PF
Similar to PoE, but this is bonafide "D&D" instead of the hipster version, writing is the worst of the three, artstyle is horrible, performance is worse, but it's by far the more combat focused of the bunch, for better or worse since this is PF, made by Owlcat on top of it all so you'll soon learn how dreadful that will be since those ivans are fankly terrible at game design all around.
It's largely customizable though and with the biggest amount of content of the three, though the actual quality is arguable, most of it is bloat.
I'm kind of a weirdo an did PoE, Pathfinder kingmaker and Divinity original sin before Baldur's Gate and BG is by far the most fun to play and the best balance between campiness and seriousness.
Game feels ok at the moment, combat is definitely my favourite part
I feel so weak though, here's my comp atm >MC
Scoundrel, completely useless atm in fights >SC
Knight, low damage but Encourage spam seems op for aoe heal? >Party member 3
Madora, doing most dmg >Jahan
clutch heals and good consistent damage
My 2 characters feel so fricking weak and useless, especially my Scoundrel. Did i make the wrong classes or something? Does it get better?
Any tips would be appreciated
My mcs were bow ranger and fire/earth mage.
Them, plus Jahan (air/water mage) and Madora (tank/2h), it was ok party.
But (afaik) scoundrel can pretty good at dealing dmg, I've never tried him, tho.
Your current issue is that you don't have many places to fight and have chances to win yet.
You have to check enemies lvls and level/gear up a bit.
PS. teleportation is great, rly, you can tp enemy mages right next to your melee and finish them off in one round (it does pretty good phys dmg, too iirc).
It was a while since I played, memory is bit foggy. >pic semi related, I loved this skill.
It's too late into the game in this case.
2 mages, tank and ranger were pretty handy.
Just remember that Warfare scales better with bows/xbows than Ranged, for some weird reason.
Wait, to clarify
Respec mechanism is avalible, but in mid-game, so it's either respec or trying to live with a scoundrel for you now. Scoundrel might be pretty strong with his skills, I have no idea 2bh.

Thanks for the heads up. For now I'll transition my weaker warrior into a tank so she has a more defined role.
Got some new daggers for my scoundrel and the damage is quite promising
Combat on the first run is fun, but most of the fun comes from terrain manipulation, so you want 2 mages: 1 earth/fire guy, and one water/air guy, the two others are up to you but one of them needs to be able to tank.
You're supposed to feel weak at the beginning, though, that's the point, Larian likes their games challenging in the first few hours, it will decrease with time and become uninterestingly easy by the time you're close to the end.
Tedious and boring fights with the most braindead system in RPG history.
A bad attempt at making yet another U7 clone while missing the point Ultima was trying to make

It doesn't, it's a really bad game. Sequel is not much better.
Dunno, I stopped at the "end of time" thing and I still didn't had fun.
I actually enjoyed the town a lot... on my first playthrough. on repeat playthroughs it's a slog and the novelty is gone
Larianjank and SOVL
>SOVL
it's there, that's right

I just picked it up as well, was hesitating between making my MCs Earth/Fire + Water/Wind mages or Earth/Fire mage + ranger.
Any advice appreciated. I don't even know if the game is difficult enough to warrant any amount of build autism however.

Excessive cringe and sub-Warcraft tier story. Just skip it and play DOS2
>Excessive cringe

solid 78/100 in my book
Well, it wasn't Tolkien tier writing, I can't deny that.
It wasn't repulsive for me, but if my English was a little bit better it might.
That's the only based part, if only for its sheer Frenchness.
Larianshit.

Gonna hijack this thread for a similar question.

I'll start with Pillars 1 then, thanks.
Try all three and decide which ones you like, obviously. Otherwise you're trusting someone who might or might not be a redditor or a troony.
