I just finished it few weeks ago, I killed both Ultima and Omega weapons. What I like them was this game doesn't require any specific tactics for it's superbosses. Just good junctions and them hit them hard with your strongest attacks.
The question is did you use hero or holy war items? if yes, shame on you.

Omega literally has a party wide 1shot that he uses at specific HP intervals that you need to setup for or you will wipe your party. No amount of junctioning will fix that. Not 255 spirit/vit, not 9999 hp, not 100% absorbs all / resist all in defenses, not all of that combined. You need to either zombie or use invincibility spells/items to get through it.

first time i played FF8 my solution was to equip everyone with low compatibility GFs then have them start summoning just before terra break goes off so they take the damage instead

You mean Terra Break? I had Zell survie through it with protect, Irvine and Squall always died even with protect.

As one of its irrationally passionate haters, I fricking wish I could lob this condemnation on it, but it is a Final Fantasy. I'll have to settle for anti-RPG and anti-game instead.

I'Ve been working my way through the series recently and on a break right now after this one burned me out.
The draw system isn't as super tedious unless you're really anal about going for 100 but man the story sucked. Liked Squall and Laguna though.
