Just finished this for the first time
>Floors 1-3
>8/10 having a comfy time
>Get to floor 4
>Game instantly becomes a 5/10 unfun maze
>Finally get through that slog
>Get to floor 5
>Can't use the magic on Moonlight Sword and have to grind mobs for an hour to defeat final boss
Do the games get better? Because grinding in a single player game is the antithesis of fun.
>grind mobs for an hour to defeat final boss
this is why I always quit at the final boss in jrpgs
kf1-3 are great as trilogy. kf4 is the best singular game, but is unrelated to the others.
Every King's Field after is much better, yes. I enjoyed KF1, even the maze, but you'll see nothing but improvements if you keep playing them. 2 has an interconnected world since it all takes place on one island.
do I need to plan builds like in moronic souls games or can I just hop in?
>can I just hop in?
Yes
What builds? You level up magic by using it, you level up melee skills by attacking. You level up your character himself just by getting experience points. You will probably want to keep multiple weapons around, since the differences between blunt, stabbing, and slashing damage actually matter in King's Field. That's about it, really.
You can just hop in, the game is only ~10 hours long.
There's no build in King's Field you just get everything. You're heavy armor weapon master super mage
There are no builds, it's just a combo of mostly physical attacks supported by magic, leveling boosts these stats and using the physical and magic boosts them even more. Different weapon types and magic work better against different enemies but you have access to all of them in your play through, but you have to build your magic to get new spells while you buy or find new weapons, sometimes enemies drop them.
The first game is very straightforward and the series builds from there, many thinking that the 3rd or 4th are the best in the series.
The only morons are people like you that level up strength on magic casters.
Then wonder why you get filtered.
who the frick plans builds in souls games?
literally just upgrade your weapon, that's more than enough to get through the games
How does it feel being mentally challenged?
2 is honestly super cool but you have to be able to tolerate a confusing as frick labyrinth. Or have a brain that resembles a large labyrinth so you don't spend 40 hours backtracking like me
Just draw a phyiscal map IRL, like everyone else at the time
I like your map anon, I was able to instantly glance and pick out sections of floor 1. You did good.
god i have a frickin itch for one of these games a bit more modernized and the best we got is some troony shit
Is there troony shit in Lunacid or is it just made by a troony?
made by a troony, and has pronouns at the character creation.
Ok good, I literally don't care if it is that trivial
Forgot my obligatory image
but seriously its not terrible. i just need something to play after and will try Dread Delusion
The most written lore in the game is extensive futa vampire fan fiction that has no bearing on anything.
>Omg this game has pronouns, this is LITERAL WHITE GENOCIDE
I like the game and you should have a nice day
Lunacid is a good game and I'm tired of pretending it's not
It's okay, but not that great. Combat is way too easily broken and there's little build-variety.
Want to play a DEX build? Either be a ranged-gay or try and find the two or so DEX-scaling weapons in the game, which are in the last areas.
Want to make a spellcaster? Congratulations, you start with zero spells and you'll have to grind two dozen levels before casting times aren't ass anymore. Also, your best weapon is an infinitely usable fireball staff that scales with DEX.
does the game have any indication on what a weapon scales with?
All melee weapons scale with STR unless the flavour text explicitly says so (i.e. the Fishing Spear from the prison). All ranged weapons scale with DEX.
ah okay. im in the accursed tomb anyway. was hoping id not have to go through another temple of silence horror type area again.
maybe they should fix the game a little bit huh?
>Troonacid
I’m making a “kings like” based on orthodox Christianity as an alternative to lunacids futa vampires
You help rebuild a church (by doing sidequests) so it can have a liturgy service and you’ll be able to celebrate the Eucharist and read the gospel
Engine framework is about 50% done (remember 90 percent of the effort goes into 10% of the game/framework) so once that’s complete and I can just script the quests and NPCs it’ll be done so much quicker
Expect it by next yearish like end of spring
It’s sprite (2.5 D cutout style like daggerfall) based and the sprites are hand drawn and hand painted
It’ll be free and open source (GNU GPL) with LUA mod support so the source code will come with the game executable if you want to frick around with it and add stuff more than simple modding
This would either come out fantastic or fricking terrible, either way id play it
Probably terrible but I’m going to put out and early demo soon for people to try
The combat system
It takes getting used to. I’ll admit that
But I think it’s enjoyable but it might be because I’m autistic and obsessed with shadavercity and HEMA
Here’s a list of currently supported weapons. Please suggest one if I’m stupid and forgot “cool metal object #47 from 3,500 years ago”
Sword (short, heavy, bastard, messer, katana, huge, worldcleaver/buster style sword and finally plasma/star warsish because I thought it was cool for an end game item even those it’s super OP)
Hammer (war hammer, mallet, throwing hammer, workman’s carpentry hammer)
Spear (spear thrower style or normal hand throwing)
Boomerang (hunting/non returning and returning boomerang)
Bow (longbow, short bow, Yumi bow)
Crossbow
Flintlock pistols and flintlock rifles
Halberd
Mop (does 0 damage but annoys people with an animation of a mop head spinning laying on there screen)
Stick
Nunchucks
Bo staff
Brass knuckles
Knives (throwing, stabbing, long knives and rouge daggers)
Blunderbuss
Grappling hooks (Spider-Man 2 for the Xbox was sick, cope and seethe)
And stationary cannons that you can roll around with great effort (grapeshot and cannonballs)
Any more weapon suggestions? This is the time to suggest because recoding the combat a week before the 1.0 release is not possible for someone as lazy as me
I forgot to mention
Also fencing swords
Pirate cutlasses
Sabers
Tree branches
you can also kick like dark messiah (but it’s not source engine so I balanced the kick a bit more than “the sir kicks-a-lot adventures”)
Also you can bear knuckle box and use grapples if you don’t have a weapon
And it’ll have multiplayer (currently only stable with three players but the engine can handle more I just have to fix nightmare enduring spaghetti code later. So for now it’s mostly a 1v1 HEMA dueling sim)
Only one dungeon is done (for testing). Mobs auto populate based on scanning (poorly) the level geometry. After it’s stable and combats done I’ll make more levels
If it doesn't have tank controls just quit the project. I want real kingsfield, not arx fatalis with kingsfield seasoning
>if it’s not to my exact tastes then blah blah
I don’t care
I want your suggestions, not your praise
The source code will come with the game just add tank controls if you want
Technically it wouldn’t even be a kings like because it has a point and click frame with interaction buttons (like wizardry, and might and magic) so it’s not a “kings like” it’s just a free-roam party blobber with kings-like elements
>not arx fatalis with kingsfield seasoning
I just want another Arx Fatalis actually
I'm assuming you've played Dark Messiah already. It's the closest thing to it.
Alternatively there's Prey, which is really similar despite being sci-fi. It just lacks weapon/enemy variety and the "magic system" (neuromods) is to weak and gated behind doing Bioshock-research.
Played all of those, yeah. Though I must say I never actually finished Arx Fatalis, I found it pretty late and was astonished at the mechanics for its time. Nowadays it just runs pretty poorly even with the unofficial stuff.
Arx Libertatis ran fine last time I played it.
Congratulations!
wut
>im so upset about this game that im making the christian version
Im not upset at kings field, I just wanted to make a might and magic style game blobber with hidden wall buttons and slow upsetting combat like kings field to celebrate accepting the king of kings and lord of lords into my heart
Jesus saved me, spiritually, physically, and mentally
I want to share how incredible Jesus is with the whole world. He is the ONLY messiah and the one true son of God.
The holy anointed lamb of God who died to take away the sins of the world. The one prophesied to Adam and Eve. Jesus was the blessing God gave Abraham, the one that would bless all the nations of the world, that blessing was the cleansing and absolving of all sins by the sinless holy one
I love him more than anything and I just want to make a game that focuses on melee combat with evil monsters that shares my love of the one and only messiah (Jesus of Nazareth the Christ) with the whole world
But will we be able to kill israelites?
Go somewhere else nazi
Hitlers grandfather was a satanist (Rothschild) and hitler joined the occultic “Thule society”
He was a satanic insane murderer who is better off forgotten in the abyss
Hitler was also 1/4 israeli. Stop protecting them goy
I’m not protecting anyone, I just think murdering millions of innocent people just for being born is objectively evil. Also if you hate israelites and hitler was israeli like you said then WHY are you still a hitler loving nazi?
Jews are the same as Muslims, who are the same as Buddhists, who are the same as Hindus, who are the same as Pagans
They do not believe in Jesus Christ and are not saved but I won’t hurt them for it and I won’t hate them for it
I’ll be kind and attempt to share the good news of Jesus Christ with them at any opportunity
>WHY are you still a hitler loving nazi
I'm not, I'm a israelite-hating Samaritan
Like actual Samaritan?
You know they are genetically almost the same as israelites and split from the Israelites (the israelites) post exodus
Or are you appropriating Christian theology (specifically the lesson about caring for people no matter their ethnicity or religion) to try and make a point?
Either way you are wrong
I was appropriating theology but many people don't realize that intrinsic to the story was that the Samaritans traditionally hated the israelites. The good Samaritan went out of his way to help anyway because his goodness outweighed his prejudice
while we're at it the Philistines, the Canaanites, and pretty much everyone else back then had a problem with the Hebrews
The canaanites were degenerates who practiced demon worship (Baal worship) and child sacrifice
I don’t give a shit who they have a problem with tbh, let them sit in mud huts killing their own children and bending over for satan as much as they want
In fact this conversation (combined with the grass in smoking) has given me an idea, deep in dungeon I’ll add pagan shrines dedicated to demons (like Baal, Odin, thor, Zeus, etc) and a boss fight where you kill the demon (because only Jesus Christ, the Heavenly Father, and the Holy Spirit is the true living God via a trinity and unity of three-in-one)
Basically you’ll worship Christ and kill the “gods” (demons) of other religions in order to end child sacrifice
And you’ll destroy the demon altar like saint boniface cutting down the Odin tree
Pagans can seethe and practice the oldest universal pagan tradition, converting to Christianity
>millions
if only
same here anon. It's made or has any woke troony shit in it or Black folk i just skip it.
I've been wanting to make something similar but I'm a degenerate troony so you'd be disappointed there too. On the plus side, I know to keep that shit separate from the game and I don't even touch twitter
Play etrian odyssey V
is this lunacid but good and not homosexualed?
No, because lunacid fails so mch at being king's field, so it would be wrong to compare them at all. King's field actually feels good to explore for one
I found weapon magic extremely obnoxious to activate in the first one too.
I bounced off the other ones, but KF4 is fantastic.
how does Eternal Ring compare to the other series including shadow tower?
King's Field 4 is my favorite game but I've never played through 1-3 lol
I tried to play this on real hardware (KF2) and had to quit because of how poorly it ran. simply unplayable. the input lag was somehow worse than Silent Hill 1 when even the most basic geometry appeared on screen. the termite nest is where it became evident
I have no idea how this game and Spyro share the same platform, but perform so wildly different from one another. competent code I guess
yeah i own KF4 and i'm definitely emulating that shit.
i wonder if theres fixes to some things like maybe a a tweak to turning speed.
I just played through KF4 with a hack that lets you use right stick to fully control the camera, and you can also increase turn speed with it if you want. Worked pretty good.
https://pastebin.com/N5Kst6Yj
The sheer control improvement and FPS stability between King's Field and Armor Core is so insane it's hard to think it's the same company/people. They for sure learned though over time, but the KF games carry that early learners jank for sure.
Were you too moronic to find the maps? Like its not hard.
>unfun maze
maze yes, unfun, no grow up and learn to consciously explore the map rather than, see place go place, and you could find your way around anywhere
>grind mobs for an hour to use moonlight
just say you rushed to the end moron
I did everything there was to do and killed every single mob in my way and I was still 6+ points off of being able to use the MLS special attack and had to go grind magic to kill the last boss. The game isn't very complex.
6+ points isn't an hour of grinding away
besides the magic of the moonlight greatsword isnt even required to finish the game
you are literally complaining about having to do more than the bare minimum, to experience more than the bare minimum the game has to offer
is there a controls mod for kingsfield like they made for the old AC games?
You can just remap the controls to the analog sticks, it works A LOT better in duckstation than it does PCSX2. Or you could play with the mouse injector mod
>OHHHH NOOOOOO a heckin maze in a DRPG!
>OHHHH NOOOOOO a heckin 1 hour grind !!
Mad because bad
Genuinely shocked that zoomers complain about dungeon crawlers having you crawl a dungeon
its not realistic bro!
I played through all four King's Field games in a row for the first time and I really enjoyed them while playing, but I struggle to think of much to discuss whenever I see a KF thread on here or /vr/ for some reason, I usually just end up not posting anything myself.
They're first person dungeon crawlers, they have slow combat but that's obviously not really the appeal, they have GOAT atmosphere and mostly great soundtracks, the lore is fairly typical medieval fantasy darkness bad elves good in both the Verdite trilogy and in the Ancient City. I really just loved the exploration and the locations you visit, that combined with the atmospheric and tone-setting music worked amazingly to immerse me in all of the games. They're good exploration and atmosphere focused first person dungeon crawling games. Don't really have anything else to add.
What else is there to think about with these games? I feel like a joyless NPC homosexual even asking but my opinions on the games seem so much more bland and uninteresting than the games themselves were while I was playing, I definitely had fun playing them throughout and enjoyed them immensely and yet I can't really articulate much of why beyond surface level descriptions of what they are.
>the lore is fairly typical medieval fantasy darkness bad elves good in both the Verdite trilogy and in the Ancient City
Just reread my own post and obviously it seems I somehow omitted the whole Seath Gyra feuding subgods controlling humanity shit despite that being the one part of the setting that is relatively unique to King's Field, that stuff is all missing from KF4 for the darkness bad stuff though.
Heres a thought
Kingsfield has better level design, music, and combat than soulsborne and fromslop hasn't made a good game since 2002
But shadow tower abyss came out in 2003
And Kuon came out in 2004
Both very flawed in their own ways, even kf4 had a lot of bad and sloppy mechanics like upgrading weapons, enemy I frames or your spells doing massive damage to you when before they didnt
I need a refresher on Kuon but for STA you lose speed when you swing your weapon(unlike every other kf), repair costs are always a flat huge amount vs the smarter variable amount from shadow tower, guns pretty much ruin the game and most magic is bad. A worse weight system than kingsfield 4 or shadow tower
I think a game being flawed is okay as long as it makes up for it in other ways and I feel like STA and KF4 do that in their own ways.
Also, I personally love armored core so I'd argue for those too. I pretty much love all of From's work. People like to think Miyazaki is the reason foe their modern success, but anyone with a brain that's played their older stuff can see the similarities between all their titles.
anyone try the monomyth demo?
i completed it earlier and i dont know what i think about it. whats funny is the thank you screen said it would come out January 2022 kek.
what was the patch for arx fatalis that i needed? some anon recommended me it but i forgot 🙁
arx libertatis
>dev puts pronoun select into character creation
>pronouns do absolutely nothing in game and it only exists for the character-creation screen
>chuds get infinitely assblasted nonetheless
its the fact the homosexual did it explicitly to make people MAD is the most insufferable part.
The fact that a pronoun option makes you mad is the real joke.
What's next? "Black skin option??!!! This is literally white genocide!!"
Based, these /misc/chuds need to chill, not everything is an attack on them
no it went more like this actually
>dev adds it in a patch
>explains why in a tweet when people ask about it
>Steam forums are wall-to-wall threads of people explaining how absolutely totally not mad they are, but that the single option during the 10 second character creation is a dealbreaker and the game will never ever sell, im serious u guize!!
>make a mod to remove the pronouns
>suddenly lose your mind
>get mad because you're obsessed with culture war crap
>upload a mod that exists to push your bullshit
>proudly announce that the mod exists to push your bullshit
>upload-platform doesn't want to deal with your bullshit, removes the mod and bans your account
>run back to Ganker to cry about it
-platform doesn't want to deal with your bullshit, removes the mod and bans your account
>to push their own bullshit
Well yes, it's their platform. They get to decide what stays and what gets removed. And people are fine with this, otherwise their platform wouldn't be popular.
The chuds even tried to push their own alternative platform, filled with "Black person remover" mods and e-girl porn, but as it turned out it was just a shitty crypto-miner site.
>otherwise their platform wouldn't be popular
>he thinks Nexusmods isn't popular purely for the nude mods
And?
It's just kinda funny how stupid you are
>tell someone their behavior is petty and stupid
>obviously this means you're mad
it's so fricking funny lmao
I'm not even a rightoid but that troony shows everyone that you don't need talent or skill to make a game
I actually believe the Lunacid dev is pretty talented. It's a shame that he's mentally ill and put that shit into the game, however.
>dev makes joke specifically to piss people off
>people get pissed off
>dev has a mental breakdown in his own patch notes because he pissed people off
can you see the irony here?
If it doesn't matter, why make a big stink about putting it into games?
>dev puts pronouns in the game
>nobody gets mad
>at worst people find it distasteful and petty
>people just point and laugh
>picrel
>makes a trilogy of perfect games
>people pretend they're shit because muh slow framerate even though souls games have 1 million times more problems than them
We have to go back.
>excluding 4
Frick you!
i always thought another KF style game but with the online features of souls (maybe just ghosts of other players) would be pretty sweet
but only that part. so no coop or anything
ghosts is a great idea, especially with how you're usually one of the few survivors of a group of knights/guards
This guy's review was made specifically to make people mad. I wouldn't be surprised if he never actually played any KF.
where was this review left and for what game? i think i know this guy
>Game instantly becomes a 5/10 unfun maze
I don't remember any of the floors being particularly difficult to navigate. Besides, why are you complaining about a maze when the entire point of meat of the game is in exploration and mapping?
>grind mobs for an hour to defeat final boss
It's been a while but I don't think I grinded. You only needed to kill a bunch of enemies to unlock the sword spell but it was perfectly and easily killed otherwise.
pretty cool how this is how all kings fields threads will be like from now on
>pretty cool how this is how all kings fields threads will be like from now on
I kill myself.
>were never going to get another kings field because miyazaki is so far up his frickin ass with souls shit
suffering
souls owns b***h
what should i expect?
an odd blend of KF and elder scrolls, with an amazingly surreal world
>open world
ah frick nevermind then.
it's semi-open, it's just that each area is kind of big. You still actually have to unlock each new area by fulfilling tasks and lowering bridges/securing transportation to the next
This is likely the first blacksmith in a Fromsoft game (KF3)
He says he's too depressed to make you anything, despite uhhhh.... sitting in front of a forge with a hammering animation
Just another screencap
This area is such a vibe
Just joining this thread, which kingsfield game ends with you fighting the tree with a face on it? I beat that one using a USB wired controller. That was the second kingsfield game i played.
The first one I played i got filtered by and gave up, you start out on a beach, and theres a cave populated by giant ants i got lost in and couldnt find where to go. Did you guys have any trouble with that one? I honestly tried and even went as far as to make a physical map on paper to the best of my ability and still couldnt figure out where i needed to go. I dont remember if the ant cave was where i made the map but my memory of that game is just me getting lost and making maps.
USB wired NES clone controller, it was terrible. i had to use select and start to look up and down but im proud i beat it. i think i used the space key or the enter key to open my menu.
>which kingsfield game ends with you fighting the tree with a face on it?
KF1
>The first one I played i got filtered by and gave up, you start out on a beach, and theres a cave populated by giant ants i got lost in and couldnt find where to go.
if by beach you mean at a nighttime beach with killer fish and octopi nearby, and by ants you mean termites, then that's KF2 (1US). I just beat it the other day. Not too much trouble except for paranoia over potentially running out of rhombus keys
frick it i'll try make a genuine post despite this thread being AIDS
>central room between all floors giving a grander sense of scale
>teleport tied to a specific item you can leave anywhere
>wait real-time for an NPC to repair your equipment
>charge attacks between swings for maximum damage
>assload of sick-ass spells
I knew King's Field was based off of and pretty much a more casual version of pic related but I didn't know the similarities ran this deep. It's crazy how much more immersive this game is. I think the only thing King's Field has going for it is the soundtrack. Ultima Underworld's music is actually obnoxious.
If you like King's Field there's absolutely no reason for you not to play this game.
>Can't use the magic on Moonlight Sword and have to grind mobs for an hour to defeat final boss
How, all you have to do is play normally and you should be at the right levels in magic and strength to use it by the time you get there and if you are not the enemies there are such high xp dumps that it should only take a few minutes to do so.
>slow move speed
>super slow turn speed
>game runs slowly in general
>melee is just doom's revenant punching
>killing enemies is mostly pointless unless you're grinding money/exp as they will respawn as soon as you turn corner
>maps aren't even complete maps of the level
I've been told it's super amazing, but it's a clunky slog hindering your exploration, which is the only fun part of these games.
I try to keep a mindset of that era and not compare it to modern games. It was great for its time but a better game that came out the same year and had more impact on the overall design of video games moving forward was System Shock 1, which I personally enjoyed more. Both are good but there were better games in its time.
in lunacid where theres multiple routes...uh how long should i be in an area for until i move on?
its hard to really know what u need in the area so i try to just find the save point so i can warp back later and then just explore as far as i can until i get stuck
yeah like i'm in the tomb right now but i also have an option to go to the forest since i have that warppoint too. i really don't know how much longer i can stand this frickin place
youll probably come back to tomb eventually, therse nothing in there that you immediately need
i might just do that thanks. ill just go to the forest
It's basically this. There's two way to get to the Sanguine Sea. From there it's a linear path to the end with several optional areas that have loot, lore or stuff for the other endings.
Ooh wow thanks. I feel like my first playthrough is running through all the areas but seeing all the optional stuff really noggin joggins
There's also a small extra level (Sealed Ballroom) in the castle and you can reach Tower of the Abyss (50 rooms with enemies) from the Boiling Grotto.
>one way only
i missed the hollow basin entrance and instead got in from tomb by casting 50 coffins
got the corrupted dagger the same way
stone barrier steps came in clutch for me ngl
I'm pretty sure you only need to find a blood spell that you can use to get into the spooky castle, I can't remember if there were any other essential items you needed to progress further
so technically areas like the catacombs, the forest and the archives are all optional
Yes.
Kf1 is literally a game made by a company that made business software.
Kind of a hilarious thought. From's been around since 96' 97' I think? Miyazaki wasn't even an original member but last I checked the dude "mostly" responsible for Kings Field is still there in some capacity. Maybe we'll get a KF or Shadow Tower sequel, preferably before we all die in a car accident or from a blood clot.
He hasn't been credited on a game since dark souls 2 and Miyazaki says he won't touch King's Field without him. So it seems unlikely. Also he's the guy who founded the company.
KF4 is best and should deserve a remake - or the series should get a (spiritual) sequel - with 4's gameplay as a foundation.
Ultima Underworld shits all over KF.
