idk from whom. if you weren't around at the dawn of the internet it won't be of much interest to you. it's one of the only games that i feel like you really had to play at the time it was released to "get it."
either way, just play them blind if you're gonna play them.
anon i'm 38. i just didn't play them.
I'm 45, my son 25 absolutely loved this series. I miss him like you wouldn't believe. Play it anon, decide for yourself.
genuinely sorry you lost him anon. i know i dont know you and it cant mean much, but i wish the best for you.
Thanks man, it's fine. Just strange I saw the thread and had all those memories. I bought one of them I think mutation, then things got bad with his mom and he apparently finished it, and bought the rest. Life is funny this way. Take good care anon, take time to be with the people in your life. Sjtn4
>my son 25 absolutely loved this series. I miss him like you wouldn't believe
It's completely made up, anon.
I don't know what this shit is but it goes for a lot of money on ebay, flip that shit and buy some $iZZ or a hooker instead of being a goomer who don't touch grass
It really do be like that. I even typed the captcha in my post. I wear readers for a reason. Youth is truly wasted on the young.
I've been getting an unnatural amount of "Verification not required" lately. I never once paid to use this shithole, but these days I maybe only do one captcha out of every 10 posts. It's based, but I have no idea what changed. Did hiro finally get enough money?
This is a honeypot lad, many bad actors here. Too many agenda pushing, bad people and their bots. Try to limit time spent here, lest you become trapped. It is one of the few truths spoken on this site.
You will be here forever.
You need to see the anime before playing it. Otherwise half of the lore will fly over your head.
No need to lie anon. We know you just wanted an excuse to make a .hack//thread. It´s alright. But just in case you were serious. Yes, you should know some stuff.
.Hack is a multimedia project so you can only get the whole picture by consuming the other pieces of media. I´ll list the most relevant and the order below
>.Hack//AI Buster (light novel)
>.Hack//SIGN (anime - 24 episodes)
>.Hack//IMOQ (The games in your pic. You have to play those in that order (I for Infection, M for mutation, O for Outbreak and Q for Quarentine) and there is a .hack//liminality OVA episode that should be watched at the end of each game. //Liminality covers how the events of the games start affecting the real world)
>.Hack//Zero (good luck getting that in English)
>.Hack//SIGN final episodes
That pretty much concludes the essentials for the original project. Tasogare, Link and the like don´t really matter and //roots, //GU and //Returner are their own thing. I mean, there is a lot of easter eggs for fans of the original and some characters are recurrent players using different avatars but the plots are not connected enough that you should play the original project to get into it.
I mention this because the original games may feel dated. They really captured the magic of MMORPGs back in the early 2000 (limitations and all). Also, you should know that if you do things in the aforementioned order the original games had lots of secrets to reward loyal fans. From special areas containing the weapons of beloved characters to secret encounters with fan favorite ones or their data ghosts.
i appreciate your info anon. i am not lying tho. do you really read the novel before the anime? i was planning on using this site as a watch order/ play order/ read order guide.

should i still do that or nah?

ust play the game, you’ll be fine. If you like what you’re getting from them in terms of the setting and feel of things you can go do the rest.
There’s four of them but they’re comparatively pretty short - 20 Hours each give or take how much you want to grind for gear/unlockables. You should watch the respective .hack//Liminality episodes after each game though.
That´s the chronological order of events yes. That said each piece media is it´s own self contained bubble in a sense. Each set of characters find of different aspects of the system anomaly and that helps us form the bigger picture of what´s fully going on but there is little direct interaction between the pieces of media themselves. It´s not so much of a coordinated effort as how each set of characters is doing their part and solving their own problems and the effect that has on the final result.
What i mean to say with this is that while reading the novel or watching the anime will certainly enrich the experience and make the world seem more alive and the antagonist more ominous and interesting, you don´t really need those things to understand the events of the game. Just know that those events are only part of what´s going on.
yeah, it's all designed that way. fake intrigue to get you to buy the next game and then to buy the anime and then to buy the novel and then to buy the merch. sleazebag shit from jap leeches.
>'they make enjoyable product that makes you want more product'
>'How dare they!'
This is how you sound.
no, "they design a split product up and create a "mystery" to fool midwits and "hook" them" is better. it's basically an intelligence test. the games themselves are shoddy and the systems are bad. cognitive dissonance is a b***h though.
i played the first two of these games at release and i quickly realised it was a gimmick to sell a entire franchise and split a game up into four episodes in order to bleed otaku. really bad games and fairly shameless products.
honestly this. Great show it still gives me Goosebumps like it did on release.
So do you guys know anything about the fan made MMO being developed? Seems too good to be true.
