I think Ganker completely misses the point of handhelds. You aren't going to play on a deck if you are at home, you are going to play on your PC.
I use my deck 6 / 7 days of the week because I am only home one day a week because of work. So the deck actually works for people like me.
this was me with the switch
got my deck recently though and already pumping more hours into it than I ever did my switch, without having to buy new games either
I just downloaded the fitgirl repack of lies of p on my pc. I wanna install it on my steam deck, have you installed any repacks using those lutris guide videos on youtube? Not sure which to follow.
Also for some reason, once I removed emudeck from my internal drive and shifted all my emulsion stuff to an SD card, for some reason emustation can't detect my roms anymore.
NTA you replied to, but from my experience ive tested around 110 or so games OUTSIDE Steam and around 80% "just werk" with proton GEs when you add them as non-steam games. From indies, to porn games to AAA.
Also, aaaaall and every RPG maker games/ rpg porn games work, and every single Unity game also works perfectly well. For odd reasons.
Some games that didnt wanna work were like Kingdom hearts, Monster hunter, horizon zero dawn, RE2 remake , Baldur's gate etc.
good luck with Lies of P
Install your favorite games
Find some of them don't work out of the box
Learn that it really is just linux under the hood and there's a full computer you can easily get to and will need to for anything but stuff with green checkmarks
Troubleshoot issues one at a time (first major one for me was codec files)
Go down the rabbit hole for what you can play
Sort out emulation
And I'm roughly there. My latest achievement was figuring out how to get xbox gamepass stuff to play. I've now worked out to do streaming from my PC to my SD to play P3R from gamepass, with the added benefit that my computer does all the heavy lifting so I can actually turn on intensive settings like raytracing https://youtu.be/SewuUleDVug
>Make a secondary account >buy all the steam porngames you want >move it to the bathroom >Now you can fap and shit and play video games at the same time
>owned the Deck since April 2022 >fiiiinally after almost two years, i been playing the Deck on a daily basis for almost 30 days now
Once you really get into it, it's actually quite great. This thing actually plays almost everything on Medium-High settings at 30fps and even FSR turned on to upscale the 720p resolution. (this is assuming you play on TV like i did).
Just make sure you limit the TDP to like 9-10 watts or so, otherwise the damn Deck gets very loud with the fans and very annoying
It was pretty much my main vidya machine from day one until recently. The novelty of handheld pc gaming kinda wore off and the small screen can be really limiting in some games. No regrets though. I still use it but just not as much.
I hope valve keeps their shit together and eventually makes a next gen model.
Dunno but I hope he keeps designing control layouts cause this is the first handheld I can play for longer than 30 minds without my hands cramping like crazy.
I have my volume around 15% and I only notice the fan running when it stops, if that makes sense (when running 30w).
Battery you'll get 2 hours at full power 1600p sort of shit, not great but also you're not going to be playing games like that when you're out too often. Running at lower res older games you can get up to 5 hours. Really depends on game and required powersettings. New games generally a couple hours, old ones several.
Some people have fan whine issues which supposedly has been fixed in manufacturing now but I can't speak for that I'm afraid.
Thats exactly what I do yeah. The Go with the detachable controllers and built in kickstand just lend really well to that for my use. Screen is great too but you do get the windows issues
My problem generally with the deck is that singleplayer hamsterwheel games don't do it for me anymore, and those are the only viable games on the Gaben machine.

Your steam games including mouse games (except keyboard ones)
Get a steam link, have some form of upscaling on your tv, then use your deck as both the system and the controller while you enjoy your games on a better screen at a seemingly better resolution.
I play my games on 800p but the tv comes in to upscale them into at least 1080p so I can play my games on a fixed 60fps on a 65"
Gaming laptops have better performance but always have to be plugged in a wall to use the discrete GPU and don't have the advantage of having a controller attached 24/7. They're always made for a desk to actually play games on. Also they get hot as shit and somehow the Steam Deck has better cooling even while smaller

Works on my machine quite well. I prefer it to my Deck. Deck has its place, it's a good entry level for people to afraid to tweak their systems. You get less power, less choice but greater convenience so its a trade off based on what you want to put in.
There is a reason SteamDeck has a huge teabby audience.

This is literally the first time I have ever heard anyone say this. It makes me assume you have never used a deck. Ive watched like 10 comparison videos on youtube and every single one talked about how much better the steamOS experience was over windows.
>Get a windows handheld so you can easily mod
Why are these threads always full of lies? Valve makes the ext4 user partition capable of case insensitivity and then recursively sets the C drive of the wine prefix to case insensitive. Proton also supports MO2 out of the box thanks to wine-mono, the native dotnet runtime. Modding is literally click and run. The only exception is that you need to manually select the modtool .exe in launch commands if you use a loader, since valve refuses to support that (or running multiple .exes in the same prefix) in gui.
Good look with Linux. Get a windows handheld so you can easily mod.
nta but i do wish i could just drag and drop all my new vegas mod files. I don't have a bluetooth mouse keyboard so i cba to set up the mods on deck yet.
I play mine every day and have completed many games on it. Even double consoomed and got the OLED one. The people who shit on the deck are either too moronic to fiddle with Proton or Lutris for 5-10 minutes or they're beaners who get upset that the Deck doesn't play Fortnite and their latest AAA slop. If you actually like good games, the Deck is for you.
Games I've beaten/replayed lately on the Deck:
>Jak & Daxter (OpenGoal PC port) >Mega Man Legends 2 >Wario Land 4 >DMC1 (DMD run) >Final Fantasy IX (Moguri Mod) >Dino Crisis (Classic REbirth version) >Sonic Mania
Currently playan: >BallisticNG >Disgaea PC >Rain World
>Moguri mod
Holy based, and I agree, there is a layer of skill issue that is never brought up by the deck's critics.
If you can get the base model for 300 or less then upgrade the memory through your own means it is an absolute necessity at a cheap price atm.
>how you liking the OLED for emulation?
Its a thing of beauty. I never bother with widescreen hacks or anything so having the borders around 4:3 games just melt into nothingness thanks to the OLED screen is wonderful. If I play it in bed in the dark then it looks like I'm holding a little hovering square, its awesome. Upgrading from the LCD to the OLED is pricey but in my experience I don't regret it at all. It runs so much cooler too so you'll never hear the fans make a peep when playing older stuff.
I tried a variety of well-reviewed chink handhelds before the deck but all of them were fricking awful. No doubt recommended by Redditors who take a photo of Pokemon Crystal's title screen and upload it for karma, then leave the device in a cupboard to rot. They all have such shit ergonomics and awful quality control.
Deck is an end-game system for me. Chinkshit players and Windows homosexuals are free to enjoy their slop.
Waiting for the fatal frame 2 and jak 3 decompilation
Also its great to play games stuck on ps360, drakengard 3 runs better here than on my old ps3 lmao
Yeah sold my regular deck to a non speaking Hispanic and then got the oled. Beat mgs 1 for the first time on the deck. Really liked how liquid's helicopter fight reminded me of a shark circling someone in water.
Been playing >lightly modded Stardew >Horizon Mod Fallout 4 >MHW >Dave the Diver

how are you going to aim with that, the mousepad?
Laptops aren't half as portable as laptop gays make them out to be. You WILL sit at a desk or you're gonna have a bad time.
Why is Laptop vs Steam Deck still a debate?
Laptop does everything the Deck does except it can do more. You have infinitely more controller options, emulation options, modding options, resolution/graphics options, streaming options, and a bigger screen. Laptop having a bigger screen is a big deal since both can't fit in your pocket anyway so the portability buzzword has no meaning in this conversation.
Steam deck's desktop mode is buggy dogshit that isn't work using. However, as a device to play games, the portability and feel of the device beats any laptop.
When are those gay morons at Valve dropping the update that lessens the mura on the OLED model? There was talk of it over a month ago. I legit dropped my Fatal Frame 2 playthrough due to that shit.
would be cool if you could connect it to an external GPU in dock mode. i've seen some vids of people doing that but they had to hack an occulink port into it
I like how Valve still haven't released a public version of the OS. All those trannies screaming about how the deck is gonna save linux now realise that they're not saving linux. They just took it because they don't have to pay, and there's nothing those troons can do about it.
run one or two new games and be surprised they run at all, then proceed to install old stuff from around 2010 era and ps2 emu to actually have fun. also install tons of h-games
Mine is coming next week and I kinda want to play old assassins creed games like black flag and rogue, are they playable out of the box? I'm afraid of uplay shittery
>it runs Elden Ring >IT FRICKING RUNS ELDEN RING >it looks absolutely amazing on oled screen >it actually runs great
Holy shit. What's the point of Switch 2 again?
To play Nintendo games legally with online functionality. If those kinds of games don't interest you, that's fine. I enjoy many games, so I own a Deck OLED, Switch OLED, and PS5 Slim.
>What's the point of Switch 2 again?
Normalgay fodder they can buy in walmart. The switch had its place when it was literally the only handheld available, but that was years ago. Far as I'm concerned consoles will never be relevant again, the future is PC.
Elden Ring's pirated copy doesnt "just werk" on the Steam Deck... so i eventually gave in and bought it on Steam on one of those meeeeega rare sales it has lol
Its funny cause 80% of pirated games work fine but sometimes you're stuck with games that just dont fricking run on Proton GE for no damn reason.
Activision were the publishers, but the devs are still FromSoftware..
I dunno how greedy or not Activision are with their sales tho..
But im willing to bet this is FromSoftware making decisions.. even Dark Souls 3 is rarely on sale and is still full price (ahem it is on sale today but thats a rare exception)

Sekiro's situation is strange.
Activision only published the game outside Japan. From owns the IP and published the game in Japan.
They have the same hardware but Legion go has joycons and a slightly bigger battery while Ally is more portable and lighter plus has VRR when you try and run modern games that can't have a steady framerate
it's a piece of shit hardware you have to send it back while you still can
dont listen to VALVe drones >sold less than the n-gage >cant run anything after 2015 >shit dpad cant play fighting games >has virtually 0 resale value >linux so hours upon hours of tinkering to do the most simple task
etc etc
send it back send it back send it back
Keep playing on your desktop and lug this around only on holidays where you should probably be doing something else than playing video games. Seriously, unless you have a job where you have to travel a lot, something like a trucker or a traveling corporate job, you really don't need this thing. What, you're gonna use it on the bus? Fricking autistic. The other reason to get this thing is if you want to pirate Nintendo games in which case it's perfect.
Really enjoy remote play on the steam OLED, found this guide online that reduces the latency to basically 0. I look foward to beating yakuza 8 so that I can grind away in bed.
install 50 games and then after a week not use the device at all
This
c'mon man why do you have to call me out like that
literally me but on switch lite
Get some emulators or steam games you think you'll like
I'm partial to Civ VI on it - trackpads are great. Been playing RE4 (original) lately
Honestly I largely use it to watch pirated anime on my TV. Still occasionally game on it, but doesn't overtake a PC
Half of the worlds economy works based on this phenomenon.
But enough about the nintendo switch
Meh, I still play some games on my bed in the evening.
Wow bro how do you know me
me on my hen ps3. i spend more time installing games than playing them
Kek, me and my new 3DSxl that i cracked.
Over a hundred games, only play mario kart while taking a shit.
Why do we say taking a shit when we're leaving a shit there?
Not going to solve that one for you chatGPT.
Like my Switch, PSP, Vita, etc.
Fun anywhere. You're free.

Its a chick magnet, trust me bro
you know what's the worst thing about the steam deck? I think it's the only gaming device in 2024 with no dedicated screenshot/capture button
install decky and the decky recorder plugin
I'm aware there are shortcuts for it but it's not the same as a dedicated capture button
Just map it to a back button
it's steam+rb
Can it run Elden Ring at 60fps?
On minimum settings at 720p yeah.
Cum on it.
'ick on 'eck

Dunno but I hope he keeps designing control layouts cause this is the first handheld I can play for longer than 30 minds without my hands cramping like crazy.
Play Helldivers 2
Use its peak performance to play 10+ years old games on emulators.
get grip tape to put on the thumbsticks.
I replaced mine with the Go and its the best decision I made in a while. The Deck walked so the others could run.
Legion Go? I might buy one. How's the battery life? How hot and loud it gets?
I have my volume around 15% and I only notice the fan running when it stops, if that makes sense (when running 30w).

play games at 20 fps (steamcels claim this is an ok gaming experience)
Why buy it instead of a laptop? Genuine question
Scale economics
Long term driver support
Actual portability
rather a SteamDeck than a laptop, and I'm a deck hater.
the price / performance ratio is way better than any gamimg laptop. More comfy to use, easier to travel with, it's a solid get.
guess im cooming today
That is a very nice butt
Because the handheld form factor is better because you don't have to balance it on anything
Gaming laptops have better performance but always have to be plugged in a wall to use the discrete GPU and don't have the advantage of having a controller attached 24/7. They're always made for a desk to actually play games on. Also they get hot as shit and somehow the Steam Deck has better cooling even while smaller
Thanks for the replies, I think I will buy it, I need it for playing old games like new vegas or something
Good look with Linux. Get a windows handheld so you can easily mod.
>Winbloats

You can tell your age from this lmao
Windows handheld are far superior to SteamDeck. I have both and the Deck is now a paperweight.
Why not dualboot Windows on the Deck?
Because the Deck is weaker than those systems. It's a good intro handheld though for people who are not sure what they want
At that point you should just get a rog ally, which more powerful and doesn't need a dual boot to get anything running.
Nah get MSI Claw not Ally it's shit and white Intel is the best one also Legion Go is big and bad for you

You either have weirdly big pockets or are fat as shit.

would be cool if you could connect it to an external GPU in dock mode. i've seen some vids of people doing that but they had to hack an occulink port into it
I guess that's one main benefit the windows machines have over it, but the cost of eGPU seems extortionate
Deck chads play games
And they do it for cheap
Simple as
I like how Valve still haven't released a public version of the OS. All those trannies screaming about how the deck is gonna save linux now realise that they're not saving linux. They just took it because they don't have to pay, and there's nothing those troons can do about it.
Based Gaben.
get a job were you need to take long commute by train
Trade it in for one of these bad boys
Looks gay
run one or two new games and be surprised they run at all, then proceed to install old stuff from around 2010 era and ps2 emu to actually have fun. also install tons of h-games
Go to GG deals, order by price ascending and buy about 20 games
Enjoy that for a while
Honest question, who in the frick still uses laptops? Is this the early 00's? Phones and UMPCs outclass them in every regard.
>who in the frick still uses laptops?
People with jobs that require you to work with software.
A bunch of my coworkers have laptops, they all use it for work.
which phone can run games as well as my lappy 4050?
>more than 50% of my time on the deck is me playing the gameboy tetris version
Mine is coming next week and I kinda want to play old assassins creed games like black flag and rogue, are they playable out of the box? I'm afraid of uplay shittery
Not really. Black flag runs like ass. Rogue runs well. But both gets fricked by uplay running intermittently
You need to run in Windows
download countless porn games and jerk off to all of them in the comfort of your bed
Are there actually good porn games?
>he fell for it
>it runs Elden Ring
>IT FRICKING RUNS ELDEN RING
>it looks absolutely amazing on oled screen
>it actually runs great
Holy shit. What's the point of Switch 2 again?
> What's the point of Switch 2 again?
a platform to sell overrated and overpriced nintendoslop
totk sucked big balls btw, dont @ me morons
To play Nintendo games legally with online functionality. If those kinds of games don't interest you, that's fine. I enjoy many games, so I own a Deck OLED, Switch OLED, and PS5 Slim.
>What's the point of Switch 2 again?
Normalgay fodder they can buy in walmart. The switch had its place when it was literally the only handheld available, but that was years ago. Far as I'm concerned consoles will never be relevant again, the future is PC.
>IT RUNS ELDEN RING
elden ring can run on my 10 year old and 8 year GPU. nothing special
Why the frick is eldin ring still 60 eurodollars on steam?
it's like the nips want me to pirate it.
Still, the fires of rubicon game is already at 40 eurodollars, but they refuse to lower eldin ring.
Yeah i hear you anon... Sekiro is also in the same boat, almost ZERO sales , no matter the occasion.
Fromsoft's success has gone to their heads i bet
Sekiro is a Activision game no?
Activision were the publishers, but the devs are still FromSoftware..
I dunno how greedy or not Activision are with their sales tho..
But im willing to bet this is FromSoftware making decisions.. even Dark Souls 3 is rarely on sale and is still full price (ahem it is on sale today but thats a rare exception)
Sekiro's situation is strange.
Activision only published the game outside Japan. From owns the IP and published the game in Japan.
just to let you know there's this annoying issue where the game just randomly stops receiving inputs (can't move, rotate the camera, etc.)
install Switch emulator and enjoy your switch games.
For me, it's the ROG
>No touchpads
Touchpads are a meme
t. trackpadlet
>Touchpads are a meme
The lack of trackpads makes most hentai games unplayable.
just use gyro as mouse. it just werks
I can't decide between it or Legion Go
legion Go is around 10-15% more powerful.. bigger screen and no memory card BS
They have the same hardware but Legion go has joycons and a slightly bigger battery while Ally is more portable and lighter plus has VRR when you try and run modern games that can't have a steady framerate
Nintendo bros?
now you take a picture of your hairy chode on top of it.
Deck bros...
let it sit in its case for months only occasionally pulling it out for a night where you’re too lazy to go to your PC
it's a piece of shit hardware you have to send it back while you still can
dont listen to VALVe drones
>sold less than the n-gage
>cant run anything after 2015
>shit dpad cant play fighting games
>has virtually 0 resale value
>linux so hours upon hours of tinkering to do the most simple task
etc etc
send it back send it back send it back
>cant run anything after 2015
>linux so hours upon hours of tinkering to do the most simple task
lying little homosexual
>send it back send it back send it back
Shoulda got one of these bad boys instead
I'd sup a boy
Pick up some JNCOs so it will fit in your pocket like I had to with the atari lynx lol
It's nice to play in bed after already spending all day at my desk.
Really enjoy remote play on the steam OLED, found this guide online that reduces the latency to basically 0. I look foward to beating yakuza 8 so that I can grind away in bed.
What are some fun GameCube games to emulate?
Never owned the console btw.
