I love Thief so much it's unreal even though i skipped many levels on my first play through
It's good, perhaps too good. I think I fricked up by picking it up for my introduction into FMs because other missions I tried look less impressive by comparison... Or maybe I'm just spent, I don't know.

You might want to give 3 a go too to appreciate TBP more. It's may be inferior to 1 and 2 but it's still soulful, and there's a big must-have fan patch that fixes a lot of issues.
You should try Endless Rain, very similar experience to TBP.
TDS sucks. Don't believe a single person who suggests playing 3, OP. It's not just consolized trash, it is what inspired Thiaf to be the trash it was.

Apparently something real good. I didn't like Thief 2 and was unable to finish it. Gold was fun though.
TBP is more enjoyable if you also played Thief3, you'll be able to appreciate it more

Game that could've very well been Thief 3. Then again, these modders have had FAR more time to work work Thief than actual devs. TBP is just outstanding.

Dark Mod runs on the Doom 3 engine.

How do I get this running with the least amount of effort? I have the mod downloaded, do I need TFix, some launcher or mod manager?

It was a good The Dark Project experience, though it also suffered from the same problems, more or less. I prefer more modern fan missions to be honest, but The Black Parade was good regardless
More Thief with atmosphere similar to the first game and level size ramped up to 11. There's a bit of everything in it.

Deadly Shadows is worth playing, it's not as good as 1 & 2 but there's good stuff in there, the story is interesting and the atmosphere is top tier, ignore the cry babies
You might want to play Deadly Shadows as there's a huge spoiler in The Black Parade for that game. Deadly Shadow has some huge issues, but it's a good conclusion to Garrett's story. Playing it modded is necessary.

I would have liked these games way more if they focused on actual burglary instead of the paranormal at the end
