Why is this generation so revered? I've yet to play B/W2 and will shortly but this so badly wanted to be a wheel-breaking, edgier pokemon and it was just so boring. At least coliseum/GoD actually went all the way with it, even if they were weird as frick games. The mons/sprites are incredibly uninspired (looking at you Cobalion what the actual frick), the amount of forced "ooooh wowwww 3D areas" making the game look like straight aged dogshit in most areas...the UI is incredibly clunky as well. I just don't get it. It was definitely a pokemon game but it has to be one of my least favorites. Also N is gay. The box legendary is pretty cool though.

because it as the first time Game Freak actually respected its fans enough to listen to them and try to fix the series fundamentals flaws with the series. Everyone hated GSC for it overreliance on KANTOOOOOOo Pokémon, and the plot being just KANTOOOOOO's leftovers, and Johto being nothing but a tiny hick region with no culture identity outside of being KANTOOOOOOOOOOs backyard. and Game FReak was too lazy and moronic to fix any of that when making HGSS so Masuda decided to make sure design Unova to avoid all things people hated about Johto. That;s why it has the most new pokemon out of any gen, why here are no evos or worhtless babies, and why only new pokemon show up. But Genwunners seethed because they couldn't sweep the game with CHARIZARD and because most pokefans are moronic casuals they fell of Genwunners lies. Masuda even compromised his artistic vision and ruined B2W2 by bloating it with invasive pests from KANTOOOOOOOOOOO but Genwunners and casuals still cried and shat their daipers, so Masuda when into a depressiion and stopped trying.

I'm not trying to be the cranky old guy, nor am I a genwunner (I'm planning to buy scarlet tomorrow to play for the first time, I really enjoyed sw/sh unironically) but yeah I'm starting to think this is the case. I didn't hate B/W I just didn't understand why it got so much praise for straying from the formula when it just didn't work. I applaud gamefreak for trying but even they saw the result and walked a lot of it back to the more traditional recipe.

what if I really really liked gen 2 but can admit it has a lot of flaws idc how sparse or worthless the new mons in gen 2 were, none of you can understand how hype that was as a kid in the still young age of technology and also getting really cool movies to go along with them unless you were there. it's just not the same today

I mean, it's true. I was busy during that era of pokemon with other stuff in my life. Grew up playing Gen 1-4, missed gen 5, bought a 3DS and beat gen 6 in a day and sold it all off, never played gen 7, was very late to the party but enjoyed gen 8, and like I said earlier in the thread will probably be purchasing scarlet tomorrow. I've been going back and playing the games I haven't beaten yet on emulator to pass time while working.
I had the exact opposite experience. I recently played Black for the first time and now it's one of my favorite gens, if not the best. My only real complaint was that there were too many legendaries.
