What went wrong?
they targetted the millenial nostalgia market while having a shitty game. like every other LE NOSTALGIA game of the past decade.
bad launch with broken characters and a metagame that consisted on spamming nair chains into a strong move or a meteor attack
lack of modes for casualshitters
poor netcode
balance patches would keep fricking up things (like glitching out some characters or straight up broke the game)
bad visuals and animations
smash content creators stopped making videos of it and no one made videos
multiversus having most of what nick brawl missed
no crossplay even if it was announced long ago
discord community that was more interested in spamming bad memes and trans rights chants instead of playing/fixing the game
thaddeus being a homosexual
>multiversus
lol I forgot that shit even existed. Has it been shuttered yet?
yeah i think it is shutting down this week.
RIP in pieces
it shut down today
And nothing of value was lost.
It was done in the shitty fricking Smash format instead of the Marvel vs Capcom format, same goes for Multiversus.
All of the animations had 2 janky ass frames & people thought that was good because it “made it faster”. The game looked liked fricking flip paper animation lmao
How ironic that the franchise whose characters usually have a couple frames of walking know (and can easily morph) the 12 principles of animation better than the one that focuses on cartoons.
Not enough Loud House characters.
People don't actually play these games, just have endless threads about who they want to see in them.
Honestly, I never played it, and I'm sure it felt great to play, but watching any gameplay of both this and multiversus made the games look extremely wonky and floaty. None of the animations felt crisp and the hitboxes always looked wrong. It just wasn't fun to watch and so I never felt like playing it either.
>made the games look extremely wonky and floaty
I don't get the floaty thing. NASB is aggressively non-floaty, to the detriment of the game. Characters drop like rocks, even the floatiest characters aren't really floaty.
Which is a fricking terrible idea.
>Let's make a game that might actually have some interest from casual players/younger players
>But every character is a fast-faller and hard to control for newbies, there's not one properly slow-falling character for learning the ropes with.
The lead developer of the game has said that he HATED floaty characters and made sure to have none of them in his super-serious platform fighting game.
Also the mechanics actively work against zoners/grapplers so it just leads to every character needing to be forced into the rushdown archetype.
I'm well aware, thought it was really dumb when he said it.
The most fun characters to play in the base game are arguably the floatiest(Danny and Oblina), along with Lucy, her moveset is just better put together than every other base game character
I never played it but I watched some of the trailers and none of the character movesets looked faithful to the characters. Bad fanservice.
goyschlop: the game
Nickelodeon ips aren’t as big as morons believe
Spongebob by itself might be.
Nah
SpongeBob movies flopped hard
Who cares about movies? The real money is in the merch sales.
It was a weird scenario. It was supposed to be a cheap cashgrab, and so the Smash clone making indie team decided to just make a tourneygay game with Nick characters to get some personal fun out of it. But people actually liked how it looked on the first trailer, and there was no way they would ever live up to that hype with the time and budget they had.
Doesn't help that their social media guy was overly snarky so would constantly bite the hand that feeds to draw attention to faults.
Their best bet was to delay the game to give it some more shine, but that was never going to happen, so their next best bet was to set a passable entry and try to add to it a little to save some face, so that Nick would be tempted to open their wallets more for a sequel
Multiversus
B-B-B-BUT MUH NETCODE!
MUH ROLLBACK!!!
MUH HECKIN COMPETITIVE FORMATERINO!!!!!
Mario kart is the only good kart racer. Smash is the only good party fighter
Pokemon is the only good monster collecting game
>party fighter
moron
ctr is technically a better kart racing
Stimpy licking Korra would never not be funny
There exist two kinds of platform fighter. The first is the licensed one that Ganker endlessly shills for months up to release day and promptly drops it when they learn it plays like a watered down version of Melee with absolutely nothing original. The second kind is truly indie, has a roster of OCs, and is actually fun to play. Ganker refuses to even try it because what's the point of platform fighter without fanservice?
Pretty much this.
The saddest part is that there was hope we were getting the second, but for an actual licensed game... but the Ludosity devs that worked on Nick were not the Slap City squad.
>rushdown revolt shill is still seething that his garbage game flopped again
I was thinking of Brawlout. The frick is Rushdown revolt?
>devs get four slots for turtles, because nick wants to use them a lot
>instead of putting the four turtles in two slots go to april and shredder
>most people feel the roster is shit because you got jimmys dad but not jimmy and 2 of the turtles not all 4
the devs were moronic
Rostergays are so delusional and bring nothing but shitposts. This guy thinks the game failed because there were two turtles instead of four turtles. Delusional shit. They could have twice the roster and the game still would have died because it's NOT A GOOD GAME.
your a fricking moron, CASUALS DON'T CARE ABOUT GAMEPLAY
MVCI didn't flop because it sucked, MVCI flopped because the roster suck and the gameplay sucking made competive players drop it. Roster always comes first.
>CASUALS DON'T CARE ABOUT GAMEPLAY
Good gameplay is necessary for player retention. Casuals (such as yourself) won't buy a platform fighting game where the only appeal is good gameplay, but they subconsciously crave it anyway and will drop mediocre games no matter how much licensed fanservice crap is in it.
thats what I just fricking said you moron, nasb and MVCI had horrible rosters so no casuals really bought it proven by the fact in both sub reddits a lot of people say they didn't buy the games because (insert favorite character here) wasn't in. Then the people moronic enough to still buy the games drop it because the gameplay is ass.
So get your head out of your ass, casuals aren't buying games and then dropping them cause they suck, they aren't buying them at all if the roster sucks.
>who cares about casual nasb fans
who the frick cares about competive nasb
If MvCI's gameplay was better than Marvel 3 then it would have been a success and with enough DLC your whiny roster problems would be fully squared away.
MVCI did have better gameplay. Much better netcode too. It just looked meh and a roster casuals didn't care for.
The lack of turtles isn't the main reason or even a significant reason the game failed, but it was a contributing factor that, combined with all the other shit, helped ruin the game
>thinks the game failed because there were two turtles instead of four turtles
Anyone who's seen even like 15 seconds of any TMNT media will realise how stupid it is to have a turtles roster with only two of the brothers in it.
Yeah.
Either go with just Leo or all four.
>Black person turtles
They literally ruined the game
The game is coming back next year. Still has a chance to be good again
Render your shit at a lower bitrate m8
It was funny seeing people here claim SpongeBob and Garfield were bigger than Mario
Spongebob yes, Garfield not even close
Do you have a single fact to back that up ?
Sponge Bob oneshots everyone btw.
>mfw I read this as Spongebob onaholes everyone
Because they were trying to court the melee audience for some reason.
My wife.
Off-model garbage.
This game could’ve succeeded if Nick/Viacom have the devs proper support and a budget from the start. The thing that killed it was lack of polish in the animations, no voice acting and shit music. By the time they patched some of that stuff in it was too late. Also where the frick was Timmy fricking Turner or any FOP content for that matter.
Licensing hell. Seriously, all the pre-Poof seasons are distributed by Nelvana. It's the same reason why the Nicktoons Unite games were renamed "Spongebob & Friends" anywhere else.
it seems like all the smash clones accelerated the popping of the smash "cultural phenomenon" bubble
not only did the smash clones like nick brawl and multiversus flopped, Smash Bros also lost some steam, Smash used to dominate this board and now no one gives a shit about Smash Bros, even when there wasn't a new one announced you would see made up this like "next smash" or "kerfuffle" nowadays a smash thread won't even reach 100 replies
I guess you can only do "what if he vs who" so many times until no one cares anymore where even Bugs Bunny vs Superman is eh, who gives a frick?
It’s definitely because of over-saturation of content over a relatively short period of time. The gap between Sm4sh and Ultimate was really short compared to other entries, and the constant DLC characters every few months was sure to make discussion tired. Smash feels special once in a long while, like the Olympics or World Cup or some similar event.
yeah, people even though Ultimate was an outright port of Smash 4 at first
I miss the day it was announced. Nobody was even talking about the actual game just reminiscing about early Nickelodeon.
I was super excited for it until I realized it was supposed to be like melee. I instantly realized how sweaty it was going to be so I just didn't get it.
Shadow won
Redditbob lost
what's wrong with being excited for a game?
I hope the sequel's better.
>NO BEAVERS
>NO BUY
Never understood why people got hyped up over this game, or any Smash clone.
It was just a chance to shit on Nintendo and post Ganker stuff
Yeah. It was just another cheap Smash clone like we had before with Cartoon Network Punchtime Explosion and TMNT Smash Out.
Multiversus was twice as good as NASB, but being twice as good as NASB still isn't a good game.
>confusing shilling campaign for actual excitement
It happened with Multiversus too. "People" were clapping over the fricking years old Shaggy meme being in the game.
