>The characters designs are fricking atrocious and don't mess with the Mario designs at all (everyone is made up of fricking blocks) >Partially due to that, the game straight up feels like it was meant to be an original IP and they just said "oh frick we need this to sell" so they slapped Mario on last minute. It's not a "fish out of water, but the world is still recognizable" story like TTYD and Rogueport are as much as it is "lazy copy-and-paste recognizable IP in a completely unrelated franchise" story >The gameplay is this strange mix of RPG-platformer which doesn't work whatsoever because the RPG elements are basically non-existent which just leaves you with an extremely mediocre platformer with no sense of speed or satisfaction. Sticker Star gets a ton of shit for "turning the Paper Mario series into a series where battles are completely worthless" but Super did it first >This also results in the game being piss easy because imagine if you were playing a normal Mario game but the level design served absolutely zero threat and you have 20 hits (and more if you have recovery items) to take before you die instead of just one to three. Granted it's not like the first two games are hard but they've still undeniably have some more bite than Super does >Pixls suck not only because they do they have dogshit designs (see point #1) but also because they're your partner replacement for this game and literally every single one of them is basically just an item with zero dialogue outside of when you first meet them, causing the game to just boil them down to being "okay, I clearly have to use [this Pixl] here, so let me stop, go into my menu, use the Pixl, and the immediately switch back to the one Pixl that carries you really fast"
This game sucks fricking dick and the only reason its still talked about today is because every Paper Mario game after is somehow worse but also because people jack their shrimpdicks off to a mediocre love story
The general dislike of it is due to coming after TTYD. People wanted another RPG in that style compared to SPM style.
That is the obvious answer.
There are other flaws as well of course. 3D thing is silly most of the time, waggle is a thing, npc designs are questionable outside of important characters, swapping the pixls and characters is bothersome.
I like it a lot tho, fun times.
Its got a lot of charm but it feels like it never nailed down a good gameplay loop. They tossed out the turn based combat but just replaced it with a bunch of very shallow gimmicks.
Its fantastic.
Honestly my preference on which game I like better between it an TTYD comes down to whichever I last played, they're probably both just as good as each other.
i love it even with it's problems. it's just fun. i can't really explain it but it and warioware smooth moves just feel like you can look at art from it and know exactly that it came out in the late 2000's with the art unlike stuff from galaxy where it could've come out in 2010 like galaxy 2 and it'd feel the same, mainly with the new characters in SPM's case.
>newgrounds lookin ass
that and to a smaller extent mid-late 2000's deviantart are exactly what i'm thinking, also get a similar feeling out of the concept art for crash twinsanity.
My hope is now that PM64 is decompiled and it was proven you can modify the battle system to add TTYD stuff, that someday some autist will recreate all of SPM in that engine
would be sick, maybe also add in all those unused enemies like the shy guys and kamikaze goombas.
>The only criticism I have for it is that it's too easy
and yet you love kirby, which has nothing as interesting as super paper mario in it and also has slow clunky controls
the game is a visual novel more than anything
it's fun, but it's not an rpg. not what people wanted.
worth playing once.Still better than all the nu-paper marios that came after.
Any game that primarily uses the wiimote sideways and expects you to regularly point at the screen should've used the nunchuk in the first place. Would've made the 3D gimmick more bearable moving with a stick as well.
>too easy >recipes suck >games really shouldn't have both 'use on pick up' and inventory items >pointless rpg elements >different characters are not utilized well >entire paper mario series is slow, tedious and sucks
My hope is now that PM64 is decompiled and it was proven you can modify the battle system to add TTYD stuff, that someday some autist will recreate all of SPM in that engine
Took away the established combat for a platformer game
Replaced partners with shaped
But Tippi mogs old partners in terms of story, it was nice her and Bleck were able to get pack
And the squib story/Lumvee one were bittersweet.
too original and creative, gameplay too focused on 2d action and puzzles instead of selecting "attack" from a menu again and again
basically too much soul for paper mario autists
I don't hate it but it looks like ass and all the new characters outside the main bleck villains look like assssss
Because it's not a good video game
explain or else you're just shitposting and you opinion will be discarded

Overall I like it but they really should've made the platforming actually feel good instead of always moving at Paper Mario speeds
Its fun but it has issues. Mainly that the weird simple platformer combat doesn't really carry the full playtime.
The general dislike of it is due to coming after TTYD. People wanted another RPG in that style compared to SPM style.

Only secondaries hate it.
It's a great game, excellent gameplay, visuals and story.
Also, great double 100 pit maze.
Its fantastic.

It's way too fricking easy to be enjoyable
Only bandwagoners hate this game.
The only criticism I have for it is that it's too easy. Everything else is great.
>The only criticism I have for it is that it's too easy

I don't but okay
It was hard to play on a Wii
It's just not a fun game to play. The only people who like it are people who watch games and don't play them.
It isn't scrimbly with the moronic female goombas and the off colour misc Mario enemies.
it's time for Ganker to admit origami king is a good game
no zoomer
i wish modern paper marios were based on it instead of the abominations they are
the game is a visual novel more than anything
it's fun, but it's not an rpg. not what people wanted.
worth playing once.Still better than all the nu-paper marios that came after.
>paper mario is isn't FOR ME ANYMORE (old and moronic) (not a 7 year old)
>THAT'S WHY IS SUCKS

It's a solid 7/10. I just didn't havw as much fun with it as TTYD.
I don't hate Super Paper Mario. It managed to be fun and interesting all the way to the end with a 0/10 combat system.
Do you know how rare that is? How difficult to achieve? It is one of the most SOULful games ever made.
Yeah thats sort of it. The combat is the most dull nothing but the fun situations and story kept me going.
I don't. I'd say it's the last good Paper Mario game. It was still fun to explore in spite of the piss easy gameplay.
