Just spent $200 on one of the last physical copies of this and haven't played a pokemon game since Diamond version over 10 years ago, what am I in for?
Just spent $200 on one of the last physical copies of this and haven't played a pokemon game since Diamond version over 10 years ago, what am I in for?
You're moronic.
>Just spent $200 on one of the last physical copies of this
I don't believe you
just get an r4 what are you moronic?
Lmao moron. Only Gen 1 is good. It has Charizard and that piece of shit doesn’t
>one of the last physical copies
There are hundreds of them on ebay listed every day.
By nintendo ninjas
what the frick are you doing paying the scalper tax on decade-old pokémon games
prepare to fall asleep______________
There's a good chance you bought a fake and got scammed. Post the front and back of the cart.
I bought it from a local games store, they sell old (and new) games, they're pretty big in my city, even host gaming events (MTG card games, smash parties, etc). I wanted a physical copy and I don't trust ebay. Even prices on ebay are similar (and more expensive).
I've bought from them before and never had issues. I obviously checked the cartridge and it's fine. And if it's not than they'll let me return it.
It's probably a fake, definitely take a picture of the front and back and get it verified. There's 100k+ fake carts in circulation for DS games.
I haven't loaded it up but they literally playtest any pre-owned game at their shop. This isn't some shady backwater games store I dont know why you guys think that.
Also it was $200 CAD, so that'd be $150 USD.
>idiot bought a bootleg and is already trying to come up with excuses
>even if it was genuine he still spent 200 leafs on a game
Reconsider your life, my man.
You guys are literally moronic holy shit. This shop wouldn't be in business if they sold fraudulent copies.
Listen when the adults are talking, they sell games that play, they don't even know how to spot fakes and evidently, neither do you.
>they literally playtest any pre-owned game at their shop
The fakes play the same. That's literally the worst way to test them.
Retail stores like gamestop sell fakes all the time. If your testing method is "it works when I use it", then you definitely have fakes in your store. Never buy a Nintendo DS game second hand.
>gamestop
Those Black folk sold me a fake copy of pokemon pearl back in 2011. It was like $15, but still. It was one of those old unplayable bootlegs too, literally couldn't save your progress
Lmfao, what'd you end up doing about it?
>Those Black folk sold me a fake copy of pokemon pearl back in 2011
They were still selling NEW copies of pearl in 2011. Isn't that the year HGSS came out? You're a moron for buying a used copy of a game that's still being sold if it's half the price. Gamestop sells used copies of current games for like 2 dollars less max.
lol my gamestop sells diamond and pearl for $75. like 20 bucks more and i can go get platinum ffs
I saved my allowance to buy my first Pokemon game in 2005 which was a used copy of Emerald at Gamestop. The save would randomly corrupt after 7 badges but always corrupt if I tried to trade or battle with a link cable.
the game was just fricked up then. these kind of fake copies were absolutely not a widespread thing back then. the only issue here is that the store employees only checked to see if it worked, not if you could beat the whole game, and that's really not their fault for not playing all the way through a long rpg.
this is how much gta6 is gonna cost
this is how much ac chingchong is gonna cost
only difference is the 'mon game is a physical cartridge, but ac and gta are digital, so you dont actually own it and you will be happy
I've used flash carts to play roms on my DS before including black and white. they will play. however they are likely to fail piracy checks and prone to save data corruption. do you know what black and white do if they fail a piracy check? they make it so its impossible for you to gain any experience. it's still possible to beat the game that way, but it wont be fun.
$200? I haven't touched X or Y, but I enjoyed this over Sword and Sun
OP here, Just loaded it up and it's running perfectly fine. Some homosexuals old save file I'll have to overwrite though.
Make sure you play first, then save over it.
>it's real because it plays
I'm opening a used game store right fricking now.
Trolling aside, I can't delete the save file at all. Yeah I know, up on the d-pad + x and b at the same time at the title screen.
Nada. Nothing happens.
No clue what to do. Watched videos of people doing it. Nothing happens when I do it. I don't get any option to delete the save. Loaded up the guy's save and he doesn't have any good pokemon to transfer so IDGAF about just deleting it.
Yeah no idea what to do. The game straight up wont let me delete the save and there is no option to just save over the old save for whatever demented reason (thanks Nintendo).
I dunno. Guess I'll just go there tomorrow and make one of the guys there figure it out or give me my money back. Not a big deal.
>spend all thread defending thst he spent 200 on a shitty game
>defending it isn't fake
>it's fake
L m a ooooooo
It's $150 usd (I'm a leaf 200 here is not that much in burger money), I wanted a physical copy, I asked for new and they didn't have any left. I had looked at Ebay but the prices are even more expensive (not even including shipping). and I don't trust ebay Black folk. I didn't buy it off the eshop when I had the chance before they shut down, and there were no other realistic options left.
That and I have extra money to burn so IDC.
I just got a legit copy of Fire Red today for $117 from my local game shop (the circuit board and everything is correct), I don’t give a flying frick if I’m paying “too much”, it’s nice to have a physical copy for various reasons.
Based, happy for you anon. There's literally only one game that I'm missing from my collection and splurging on occasions is what budgeting is for.
Post the cartridge homie and I'll tell you if it's fake or not.
It’s supposed to be Select rather than X for the button combo, hoping for the best regardless.
Nvm deleted it. Fricking morons at Gamefreak made it so obtuse.
But no really, why the hell do you guys think I somehow bought a bootleg copy? Boy if it's a bootleg copy it sure functions just like an actual legit game.
Again, this is a reputable games store from my city that sells old and new games, your average retro game store every city has. If they sold fake shit nobody would shop there and I've bought used games from them before (not anywhere near this expensive though). It even came with the original case with the bloody instruction manual for fricks sakes. It's legit. I'd know if I bought a fake copy. Holy frick. This isn't my first rodeo with game shops, I know their tricks.
because the vast majority of "secondhand" DS games out there are bootlegs precisely because it's an easy scam to pull off
You won't post the game, so it's probably a bootleg.
Sounds legit if it was $200. Nice pick up and honestly an investment and will only go up in price which most dont understand(steamslop and emulator hogs will make fun of you--they cant afford a $200 DS game)
OP spent $200 on a $2 aliexpress cart
Why the frick would you buy a DS game, you can get them all for free on a hacked 3DS, which is moron-proof easy to do
moron
If you want to check for authenticity, shine a light directly on the cartridge. Real copies of the Gen 5 games will appear a dark red/purple when you do this because of infrared stuff. If it stays grey, it’s not real.
Good to hear there are suckers like you around, I still have a sealed copy I'm waiting to sell in the future
homie this game sold millions of copys you fricking moron, do you really think you bought one of the "last" copies stupid c**t?
What is the Nintendo franchise for the gamer who hates Pokemon, hates RPGs, wants games without fairies, and that is a franchise whose target is opposite to that of Pokemon?
Metroid I guess
Reasons why Metroid would be my ideal Nintendo franchise?
they're fun games
I have 2 physical copies of b/w2 from my childhood, I'm selling em rn if morons are paying that much for em.
damn, I thought I was dumb paying 60 bucks for it back in 2016.
It really isn't that odd. The average price of (english) copies of the game run around that much. The only cheap copies are in moon runes.
Damn I must have thousands of dollars sitting in my entertainment center.
Same, it's fricking hilarious how much these phyiscalgays are willing to pay for games they didn't grow up with and don't have any nostalgia for. most these people buying em are nu-pokemon fans who don't know about emulation or bootleg versions of the games. I got every pokemon game on the ds and 3ds but I'm not gunna sell because they keep going up and I don't need the money.
Some people really love to get played by the israelites
Why and how? I got a copy for like 20$ before I knew what an emulator was. If this is bait great job anon
did it at least come with the box?
>did it at least come with the box?
Yes, even came with the instruction manual.
>Spend less than $10 on a 32 GB sd card
>Download and install Twilight menu in under 30 minutes
>Can now play every DS, GBA, GBC, and GB title from Vimm's Lair
Unless you're a vidya collector or some shit there is no reason not to do this.
So uh, is Black and White 2 actually good?
couldn't really tell you since I haven't played it since I was like 12, I remember it being good for a pokemon game so its probably going to be shit by jrpg standards
Yes, it's really good.
It’s pretty much what you’d expect for a Pokémon game, and it’s overall really good. It does lack some features from previous games (no full Battle Frontier from Emerald and Platinum/HGSS, contests, secret bases, game corner), but there’s still plenty of cool new stuff added and changed, like TMs actually being reusable, Pokéstar Studios (a mini-game feature like contests where you make movies and battle weird non-Pokémon foes), Pokémon World Tournament (basically Battle Tower but you get to fight every past gym leader and champion), a season cycle that does effect the overworld in some areas (changes every month irl), and a few other things. Since it’s a direct sequel to Black 1, you should at least read a summary of that game’s plot so you won’t be too confused on things from the previous game being referenced.
All I know is that like 90% of the porn of I've seen from Pokemon over the past several years comes from this specific game.
peak of the franchise aside from pokemania
>revisit a region with barely nothing new added
>those terrible forced tutorials
>pokestar studios
>"challenge mode" that makes the game easier
>looks like crap in general
the last good mainline pokemon game.
They're potentially the best games in the series. They basically fixed all of BW's issues while being a proper sequel with new areas and are packed full of content.
It's the peak of the series, but play BW1 before it. It's the only way to feel attachment and the importance/growth of characters since it's a direct sequel. At least IMO.
kino. arcanine ftw
Retro game price inflation is moronic. I will not buy overpriced second hand shit that's more expensive than a flash cart that can do it all.
I had a chance to get this sealed for $30 years ago. I thought it was too expensive then(and it was). I regret not getting it. Still have Black 1, White 1 and White 2 though. Got them for like $15 each
>Just spent $200 on one of the last physical copies
>not buying it for $30
moronic
Gg
Got most of these for my 8th birthday and picked up a few along the way. Lost a lot of cartridges as well sadly. 20yo now, are these worth anything? Do i hold the line, Gankerros?
Nice stack
Nah that's worthless
Stfu
do you have the cases?
They've been lost to time unfortunately. These were in the back of the 3ds carry case.
It's very cool anon, but that's nothing. Look at this
Wow... That's really something. When'd a nitwit like you get so tasteful, anon?
....What's Paul Allen's cartridge collection like?
>all 3+1 MD games
>2/3 Ranger games
>motherfricking Conquest
>Atlantis Squarepantis DS
>only main series missing is Black + 2
Very impressive. Main games (-vanilla DP) and Conquest will get you out of a rut with ease.
I'm fine just emulating the spinoffs for gameplay, but I'm still itching to see if I can somehow steal some for cheap. MD especially, Sky is as golden a holy grail as HGSS, B2W2 and Conquest, it's crazy.
i just bought a second hand copy of palworld for 500$ OP, it has no save files and im scared to ruin it by starting a new game
guess ill just put it on virtual photoframe and hang it on te wall
It's okay. Welcome to godhood palbro
Pokegays are moronic good lord
Black person
Get yo' money, honey.
why would you pay that much for a game you've never played unless you're looking to scalp it for more? if you actually want to play it just emulate it. you wont be able to transfer any of the pokemon from it forward anymore because bank shut down.
why didn't you get it when best buy was practically giving them away for 10 bucks
>>>/vp/
And stay there.
It’s insanity to me that these games have not been straight re-released on modern hardware. It is free money. Like I get they’re releasing more and more remakes as they go, but I’m fairly confident the poke fan base would buy anything.
There's evidently some rumors that they might be adding the gameboy games to NSO soon, and then possibly the GBA games later. Problem with anything after that is that they are all on DS consoles and thus require two screens. You can say that BDSP solved this issue, but they really didn't because those aren't the same games. If they had to rework all the touch features on the later games, they'd probably just rather do a BDSP style remake for those games. And of course there are also rumors going around of a new unova game, either remake or new entry altogether, but obviously nothing is known yet.
>And of course there are also rumors going around of a new unova game, either remake or new entry altogether
Those were confirmed to be shitposts made by a Chinese forum
We're getting a Johto game this year
Nintendo and gamefreak would rather pretend the old games don't exist, they only want you to consoom nu-products
All you have to do to tell if it’s real is shine your phone flashlight through the cartridge. If you see a reddish hue (infared sensors) it’s real. If it’s not see through red it’s a fake. You zoomers are fricking moronic anyway, gen 5 remakes are being announced on the 27th and they’ll be a fraction of the price on superior hardware
I paid this €20 at a street market lol
>€
and it was probably fake
Cope, amerilard
Pokegays should be shot
Buyer's remorse
Only morons play DS on 3DS. The screen resolution difference is fricked and unsalvageable and makes it into a blurry mess. No the option to shrink it to native resolution the size of a postage stamp does not help.
If you were going to spend real money on the game you should have gotten a reproduction cart. They are a fraction of the price and work on real hardware without modding. Also with games this old you have to take into account that bitrot might actually be real issue.
Considering how easy it is to mod a 3DS or to emulate DS games these days. I actually do consider anyone paying real money for this game wasting their money.
I'm sorry, why should you get a repro when you could pirate it on an r4? What's the advantage?
There's none
Maybe there's some with HGSS but aside from that there's nothing
>you should have gotten a reproduction cart. They are a fraction of the price and work on real hardware without modding.
those repro cart sellers still try to sell them for scalper prices. why would you spend $100 on a fake cart
gen 5 is the transitional point between good pokemon games and bad pokemon games
the soul is starting to fade at that point but its not as bad as what came after
pokegays are literal shiteaters
I once destroyed my physical copy of Explorers of Sky, so I had to pay $200 on a new one.
Actually moronic how posters here insist OP's copy is a fake. You all need to go outside and learn how the world works. Stores have return policies. He bought a used game. Do you know what that means? That the store purchased it from someone else second hand with real money. So, in order to turn a profit, they will check its authenticity in order to not lose money themselves. OP is covered no matter what and it's highly likely the cart is real.
Pokemon games are investments and will continue to go up in price in the future. The demand stays high, fewer copies will be in circulation due to collectors.
I once bought a copy of banjo kazooie from a retro game store. It was a legitimate copy of the game, and I'm sure it was probably functional. You know what happened though? It was specifically an Australian copy of the game. I live in the middle of america. The way region locking on the N64 worked was that the game could not physically fit into a console from a different region. Region locking on the N64 has tabs on both the cartridge and the console that were not compatible. So in your moronic scenario, this means that they either didn't test the game at all, or that I'm supposed to believe that some random retro video game store was actively testing literally all of their turn in games on an Australian N64 console in the middle of Iowa. They also refused to take the cartridge back when I told them what happened, which they refused to do. You wanna know why?
It was because they said wouldn't be able to resell it to anyone else.
Always check your region, PAL or NTSC before buying.
>It was because they said wouldn't be able to resell it to anyone else.
Yikes.
>Yikes
This is not Reddit. Kys.
>he knows about reddit terminology
Yikes!
Keep yourself safe too, anon!
Good job. Keeping a physical library of your games is smart. Your collection will only go up in value as time passes on.
Bro why, i could have sold you my white2 for half of that.
Sell it to CeX. They pay €101.
I am not giving anything to companies so they can resell it for more.
Why does that matter lmao, whether your money goes to a company or some shitter you don't know doesn't make a single difference for your wallet. Whoever pays the most can get it.
you gave your personal information away to social media websites so they could sell it.
"No I didn't! I don't use social media!" he cried
Yes you did. If you're any older than 25, you definitely had a facebook or twitter account
"You're just projecting, homosexual! You're the one who used facebook, not me!" he said with tears running down his face
I am a mirror. You see yourself in me.
I never used facebook in my life, the spoilers are your headcanon.
>He said, clutching his fists with his fingernails digging in to his palm.
Made me remember i bought this when it came out and never opened it. Does it have any value now?
how is ruby a limited edition?
the steelbook
What is that though
I think it has a code and of course the steelbook, other than that not too limited.
The MM3D is still sought out after but the console is more coveted than the game
I knew i should have been buying limited editions of 3DS when they were being released.
they only got expensive when the 3ds shop shut down last year, now they have kinda fallen off and are back to reasonable prices. still need to save up and get an MM3d edition one before only the shitty ones or the fake shell ones are left
You have no idea how many were in my local stores, because no one was buying it. Same with everything that was nintendo and limited.
well i think only some models are over $300 right now, but most of the time people will buy Japanese ones and just convert them
I have a launch day 3DS with the ambassador shit. Is that worth anything?
not anymore because I think Hshop allows you to download the ambassador games, the certificate is all that might draw collectors eyes
>not anymore because I think Hshop allows you to download the ambassador games, the certificate is all that might draw collectors eyes
All of the ambassador games? I thought a some of them stayed exclusive. Also it still has the serial code on it. The serial code was used to tell nintendo when you bought the console, so if there's still a way to verify that, then I guess there's that.
Not that there's anyone who wants to buy a heavily used 3DS that's 13 years old outside of collector purposes.
No, it's worthless. Might as well throw it in the trash
Okay i will.
The Zelda one isn't worth much. Dunno about Pokemon.
Persona Q with the tarrot card preorder bonus got me a lot of dosh when I sold that one.
>The Zelda one isn't worth much
I suggest you check Pricecharting...
Yup. We have to share the board with zoomers now
>I suggest you check Pricecharting...
Huh. When did that one blew up? Wanted to sell it a couple of years ago and they wanted to give me like 40 bucks. Good thing I kept it.
>not owning every single game complete in box as it realeased
zoomers. the fricking lot of you,
I did get the pokemon games at around the time they came out though, they may of shot up in value but a lot of the games I bought around the time they came out are worthless. I'd rather pirate than gamble that something might be worth something in the future especially that physical games are on the way out.
Dunno, I bought B/W2 on launch for £50 for both games. Played and beat them. I don't even remember what the story was about. I still have them boxed in the attic with my other Pokemon games.
wow cool, we're all impressed
I remember seeing copies of Devil's third for 10€ and i thought "pfft nobody's going to buy this". And now they sell them for 200.
My question is if anyone even buys that or it's just something the people ask for it, but it never sells.
You can game anything this way as long as you have enough people buying in to it. Starfox Zero was one of the last first party nintendo games released for the Wii U and walmart and target were selling copies of it for like 5 years after the wii u was discontinued because nobody cared about it. You could sell this starfox game as being rare because nobody bought it, and if you had enough other people who own the game buying in to this, you could artificially drive up the price.
Thing is though, pokemon sells well on its own, and those games have almost never been made available again after the next ones came out. The only time that pokemon has ever made a game available for purchase again after it was originally discontinued was with Red and Blue, and Gold and Silver, and that's also mostly because those games both remade, and even at that time the REMAKES were no longer available.
Since the thread is kinda dead and I'm bored I just want to share a short story of my time working retail in a game store. I've seen the craziest rare games from customers pass me by. I'm up to date what most games are worth but I liked to let some slip for humble shoppers and not buy everything up myself. Pokemon XD Gale of Darkness for example, came in once for 10€ and was resold for 20-30€ to a regular customer. This game is worth a couple hundred bucks.
The craziest thing I've snagged for myself in all my years working there was Godzilla for the PS4 that I bought for like 3€ from a guy who wanted to sell his PS4 full of weed logo stickers and a bundle of games. Seeing as he was an obvious shitter I didn't tell him he was about to be ripped off. Normally I'd give my customers a heads up about the value of their games they were about to sell, but you'd be surprised how many folks literally don't care and are just in dire need of fast money. For example, I've prevented an older man (the elderly especially I'd always feel bad about) from selling a sealed copy of Outrun Coast 2 Coast for the original Xbox to the store. Told him it was easily worth a hundred and he should be careful, I wonder what he ended up doing with it.
Sold in another store while badmouthing you because you didn't take it. You have no idea how boomers are like.
It's possible. How come you'd come to that conclusion? Did you experience something like that?
Because they are like that. And if he later found out for how much he could have sold it he also blamed you. The concept of responsobility doesn't exist with boomers.
Not that anon, I'm this anon
but that old man probably has nearly a million dollars in savings and no living will if he's anything like my grandpa. He doesn't care about selling rare vidya for a bunch of money.
>Told him it was easily worth a hundred and he should be careful, I wonder what he ended up doing with it.
he probably either sold it somewhere else or gave it to a grandchild who didn't even own the console it was for.
Very strange if you DID spend that much on it, as European copies in the UK are going for <£90, usually they're more expensive, but also you're a moron for spending that much money on it.
>Paying 200 fricking dollars
>In this age
>For Pokemon
>When you can emulate and pirate
>Or even jailbreak to play digitally on authentic hardware
I hope you're just a collector autist and not an actual moron
I hate my younger self for not keeping better track of my games cases, me and my brothers would end up placing the cartridges in a bin for easier access to just switch whenever but the consequence of that is all of the games packaging is lost somewhere, not even sure if they're all in the house still. I'm confident the GBA SP I got when I was 4 as my first ever gaming experience is collecting dust somewhere, one day I'm gonna have to find where my parents put them and store them properly
I've heard these kind of stories like a million times. "Dude, I have like a millions worth of Pokemon card laying around SOMEWHERE in my parents attic" it's just some fetishized fantasy with most people
Go fricking get it
I never said I expect to make a fortune off them you fricking illiterate cuck, can you read?
>I hate my younger self for not keeping better track of my games cases
My parents literally bought one of those soft CD cases to put all of my playstation 1 games in and then threw away all my israeliteel cases without saying anything to me, because they collected music CDs and didn't want my shit on their rack. Then I think they sold that entire collection of my games and their CDs when I was in college.
>well i just leave all my valuables in a house with people that dont know whats valuable to me
>what could go wrong?
This. My mom is one of those minimalist "live laugh love" homosexuals, and they're white. If you ever move out of a white boomer house, assume that everything you don't take with you will get sold at a garage sale for like $2. Even if you tell them how much they could have sold it for, they wont care. All they care is that your cuck dad didn't tell them to hold on to it. All those white c**t mothers really want is to get a lake house that they can invite their adult children to come visit with their grandchildren, not that they even care about their own children anymore after they move out. Just the babies that they don't have to care for every single day anymore.
>check people selling their games
>"just the cartridges, threw the cases out because i have holder for cartridges"
Why are they like this?
what system? it was a cardboard box for some.
understandable
Switch for example.
I got a copy of white 2 for £50 last year you're just moronic.
Show pic of front and back of the cart
it passes the light test too.
show the back too
happy? It's CIB too with manuals. It was going for an average of £80 when I picked it up.
shine a bright light through the cart. they had infrared features so the carts needed to be semi transparent. if the cart is black but looks red when you shine a light through it, then it is real. a fake cart will be completely opaque.
OP here, I don't know exactly what you mean by shining a light, but I just looked up at this:
https://www.videogamesage.com/forums/topic/5122-differences-between-fake-vs-real-nintendo-ds-games/
Guide for ways to tell if your cartridge is fake or not, and mine passed every one. For example, if there is a tiny rectangle on the top of the cartridge or not. Mine does.
Again, the game store would test for fakes so there is zero chance they would be taking in any fraudulent copies.
>Again, the game store would test for fakes
nope check this
if you take their word for it, you deserve to get ripped off
Atleast it's not platinum
Just emulate on a computer it’s better
You sit upon a throne of lies. See
I ended up losing my copies of Firered/Diamond as a kid. So I got Black 2 on release later down the line to make up for it. Glad I did that
shit LARP thread
My physical games
I don't know how I can tell but are you black by any chance?
>I don't know how I can
could be the quantity of ps3 and ps4 games
Im chilean but im on the paler side
I only payed 90€ homosexual
I spent like $40 on an un opened old stock copy of this game in 2018
Black folk like you are the reason everything costs so much
Almost none of the roms available online for black 2 are clean. Almost all of them have removed dsi functionality. The only way to truly get a clean dump is to dump it yourself
>Almost all of them have removed dsi functionality.
what does this mean exactly? I never owned a DSi
If you play gen 5 on dsi the games get some upgrades like faster load times but nothing really substantial
Will my wiiu games have any value someday:( ?
