Yeah. Great crafting and weapon fusion systems, very cool specail attack animations (also coop attacks, kinda rare thing you don't often in JRPGs) and it looks like real 3D anime, I prefer it over say Dragon Quest 11 and Xenoblade Chronicles remake.
>I never liked DQ11 but I liked the original XC (haven't played XCR)
Something about those super detailed, high resolution models, basking in the ocean of post-processing is off-putting. And yeah OG XC imo looks more appealing than XCR.
And hope you are emulating. I was gullible to buy it on PS store for PS4 and ran worse than emulated version over 10 years ago.
i want to love it because dark cloud 2 is one of my fav RPGs but i hate random encounters like you wouldn't believe. i'm gonna give it another shot but god damn that's ruining it for me. are there any booba in the game to look forward to?
Kisala get's a bikini outfit, and all of Lilika's or booba outfits.
Also fun fact, Rogue Galaxy was supposed to be Dark Cloud 3, but Sony are homosexuals and wanted the building gameplay removed
Based. I love that game. Though if you're emulating it you'll need to run it on software mode when you get on Vedan so you don't shoot up above the map
I played it like 10 years ago and I don’t remember how far I got but I remember the main character glowing red or some shit
I should go back to it someday
The twin towers was awful. It's a shame at some point this game stops being an intergalactic jrpg adventure with action combat and starts being a montage of super boring stone ruins with characters who can easily dispatch every enemy using free win supermove buttons.
OP here, I watched a few playthrough vids just now to see if I could justify dropping the game and yeah. The best part of the game so far was definitely the original planet, and the anticipation of being able to travel to intergalactic worlds, that was so cool. But instead I feel like I just got reskinned corridors
Yeah that's exactly what I felt, do the planets get cooler later? On the verge of dropping. Stilll, I loved the intro

level-5 had a hardon for procedurally generated dungeons with WAY too many floors. The absence of an atlamillia mechanic in this game seems like it will make exploring the sprawling dungeons even less rewarding; no idea if there's a mechanic that takes the place of Dark Cloud 1+2's town building mechanic but I don't think so. That's why I never picked it up, I just figured it would be the worst parts of DC with not enough new cool stuff. The combat is a super upgrade from DC tho, that's about it so far

Yeah, that sounds about right. Thanks for taking the time to write that.
The game shits the bed storywise during the last two chapters. But overall it's still a very good game. Don't know why it gets so much hate nowadays.
I can definitely see it being very good overall but I'm kinda busy lately so I might put the game on hold for now then. Thanks anon

>do the planets get cooler later
aesthetically yes but they never really become as involving as say FF12's zones.
No special conditions for monsters to spawn, its all random encounters masking loading screens so you'll be getting loads of them, all empty areas with nothing in them.
You'll probably get fed up of the combat system 10 hours in but the game still has some 30 or so hours left. If you want to finish it then stack up on healing items and spam full screen spells.
GALE!!!
Also I have a feeling he’ll get stuck at the twin towers worst dungeon in the game
I was already having trouble at the frog boss lmfao.
But uh.... idk mate, might actually drop the game because even though the atmosphere is amazing, and the random encounter rate isn't even that bad, I don't know if the story can carry the solid "good" game right now. If I were 12 and had 100 hours of free time over summer break I'd definitely finish the game though
This is very strange to me. The battle system is fun and about every Tales game has worse dungeon and world design than Rogue Galaxy.
It's a fine game filled to the brim with side quests, great gameplay and an okay story.
Same here. Difficulty might have something to do with it, given the amount of moaning even in this thread. It's definitely more oldschool in that regard. Personally, it is among my fave games of all time.

All fields
Yeah, I love it too.
All this talk here made me want to replay it, catching some bugs and hunting mobs... Deego's planet was by far my favorite. Loved the atmosphere. Sadly, I forgot the name.
Gale is a Dark Souls boss. Once you learn to block, it's simple enough.

Good for you OP but i hate it.
Combat system as you spam potions cuz the enemies hit way to hard, inb4 "git gud" doesn't matter cuz the AI sucks dick.
The dungeons are literal labyrinths with copy paste assets not to mention they are way too long and some bosses are easy as frick but they single your damage making the battles last more than they really need to.
Story wise I don't remember anything which is a bad thing and the only character I remember besides the main cast is the dog human hybrid.
Tryed to liked because DQVIII was awesome but the combat and dungeons killed it for me.
Get some fullscreen attacks my dude, if you're playing on an emulator i suggest turning up the speed everytime you're not in a cutscene.
If It's about how tedious the dungeon is, then you ain't seen nothing yet.
I was actually referring to having to use blueprints and put all this shit together every time but yeah the actual factory dungeon before you get Jupis is awful too
they're both fricking awful because every time they come up I have to open a goddamn menu mid fight, equip the right gun, shoot the thing, open the menu again, and re-equip my actual gun that does damage
Rogue Galaxy is a game they needed to keep simple and they didn't. It's ALMOST good. They just needed to refine the fundamentals instead of trying to cram in as much shit as they could.
>They just needed to refine the fundamentals instead of trying to cram in as much shit as they could
funny thing
the western release is the "refined" version, an updated rerelease of the original which was only released in japan
I remember reading an interview with the developer in official PS2 magazine which claimed there would be an infinite number of procedurally generated planets to explore. I was kinda disappointed when it turned out to be just a normal JRPG.
at first, the game is fun. But then it devolves to a special attack spam because fights cant be won by auto attacks anymore. So you start looking up how to craft good weapons and spam specials and get bored fast.
had a blast with this a long time ago but dropped it at the very last chapter because i didnt level up all my characters. The encounter rate was ass but later you can use skills on the fly like the scottish robot dude's missile barrage that can completely wipe some enemies the moment they appear;
Combat was generally easy as well since you could just escape to menu and pump health items when you got low. seemed like late game this was sorta required since most bosses then two tapped you.
i played this when it came out on the ps4 and it just clicked with me, put a bit more then 100h getting the plat and enjoy every moment, even the extra dungeon.
if you are having a good time OP then just enjoy it.
It really drags on. The gameplay isn't nearly fun enough to support the 100hr campaign. Enjoyed the frick out of it when I was a kid though, as I was easy to please. Watching attack numbers go up satisfied me back then, but it doesn't anymore.
this is even better than ff xii at the hunting side, plus the unlockable outfits, the fricking FACTORY minigame and the bug catching minigame. goddam it had so much fricking content. its legit like 2 games worth of crap in there.
i'm sorry
what?
it's not your fault
?? it seems cool tho
ok
Yeah. Great crafting and weapon fusion systems, very cool specail attack animations (also coop attacks, kinda rare thing you don't often in JRPGs) and it looks like real 3D anime, I prefer it over say Dragon Quest 11 and Xenoblade Chronicles remake.
Dang that's pretty high praise. I never liked DQ11 but I liked the original XC (haven't played XCR), and this game is seeming very fun so far as well.

Yup I'm emulating! It's really nice
OG XC looks like dogshit compared to XCR lmao, Reyn is the only downgrade
That's cool I guess, but I love my cute wife more.
Stop posting like this. The subject line is not where your post body goes. Also frick you. You're not special for liking something.
>he doesn't filter empty comment OPs
Never gonna make it.
i hope you get this (you) because you're a meaningless scum sucker for coming into a thread about a PS2 video game and shredding OP for no good reason
It was a good reason. I stand with that poster. Frick you.
SOUL

Oh damn thanks for the tip bro
I enjoyed it, but it is very anime trope-y. Not as bad as the Tales of games but still a bit cringe.
Nothing wrong with following some tropes imo
> touches your girlfriend's ass
I played it like 10 years ago and I don’t remember how far I got but I remember the main character glowing red or some shit

pantsu spotted
If you finish the post game dungeon you get a swimsuit costume for her
I hope you train every character, because you have to use all of them during the final boss fight.
Don’t worry, that feeling won’t last. I’m guessing you’ll give up at the Gale boss if not sooner.
GALE!!!

The 2nd planet sucks, Rosa was already a backwater planet so going to another shithole doesn’t really make you excited for more adventure.
Yeah that's exactly what I felt, do the planets get cooler later? On the verge of dropping. Stilll, I loved the intro

Because it came out on Playstation 2. The corporate shill war around here favours Nintendo these days.

Vedan.
Gale is a Dark Souls boss. Once you learn to block, it's simple enough.
The Frog? The Frog is hard?
Gale was fricking kino though, what are you smoking
Just started baten kaitos orgions and I really like it for some reason
that's because it is a good game
It's not as good as Baten Kaitos. They simplified the card system because people complained it was "too hard" but it was the best part of 1.
> For some reason.
Probably because it's among the best jRPGS made.
Good for you OP but i hate it.

Frick the stupid fricking factory I hate it so much it's unreal.
Get some fullscreen attacks my dude, if you're playing on an emulator i suggest turning up the speed everytime you're not in a cutscene.

I was actually referring to having to use blueprints and put all this shit together every time but yeah the actual factory dungeon before you get Jupis is awful too
It's a fun game with a fun silly setting.
I thought Rogue Galaxy was really good too, up until the 3rd Act. Still 100%'ed it anyway.
Good game, have fun OP
rogue galaxy is good except for the fricking shieldbreaking and platform guns
holy shit, frick that entire concept, it's complete AIDS
Shieldbreaking is fine, it's barrier breaking that should have been removed.
they're both fricking awful because every time they come up I have to open a goddamn menu mid fight, equip the right gun, shoot the thing, open the menu again, and re-equip my actual gun that does damage
you don't need a gun to shield break, just hold down your attack, or use a shield breaking agility like Flash Sword/Fire Sword/Shieldbreaker.
Also I don't remember many enemies you need a platform to kill. Meanwhile, barrier enemies exist for the rest of the game's 8 chapters.
I remember loving it the first 10-15 hours, but then I lost interest for some reason
Would recommend, tho

NA version had cut content, yeah. PAL did not.

I liked the bounties, wish there were more. Also wish there was something to do with all my money.
Damn, I should pick this up again. Dropped it right before going to the Kuje Desert sometime in winter. It is a bit of a drag though.
It's pretty good.

good game
You'll start hating it when you get to the jungle area
Okay game
Fond memories of it but I replayed it recently and it was miserable so I stopped myself as to not further sully my memories
It really drags on. The gameplay isn't nearly fun enough to support the 100hr campaign. Enjoyed the frick out of it when I was a kid though, as I was easy to please. Watching attack numbers go up satisfied me back then, but it doesn't anymore.
Yeah, those were my exact thoughts as well.
Better to just leave it as a memory
this is even better than ff xii at the hunting side, plus the unlockable outfits, the fricking FACTORY minigame and the bug catching minigame. goddam it had so much fricking content. its legit like 2 games worth of crap in there.
My first JRPG. I liked it. And most other JRPGs can't be arsed to include 1 mini-game, RG had about 5.
Loved the insectarium or whatever it was called.
