There is nothing to explore. Most planets are empty. The remote outposts you *do* find are copy and pasted throughout the game. It gets old very fast.
Spaceship building and settlement building is completely pointless. The spaceship you are given right at the beginning of the game is capable of doing 90% of the spaceship "content."
Combat is boring and lame, even on the hardest difficulty. Everyone is a generic nobody in a spacesuit. No alien races. No land vehicles. The world is filled with pointless shit to for you to loot, like pens, folders and styrofoam cups. At least in Fallout 4, the junk could be scrapped to make shit. Nope, not in Starfield!
You can fast travel to every location you need to go, there is really no point to manually flying anywhere. Enjoy those takeoff/landing/wienerpit animations! Most disappointing game since Diablo 3.
It's so fundamentally half-baked in almost every way, and missing so many key aspects of immersion, that I can't even think of how mods could potentially fix it.
If you like Bethesda quests it's good.
If you like wandering around Bethesda maps to see identical Drauger/Dwenmer/Whatever caves and ruins then you won't.
Ignore scanning and basebuilding, it's not fleshed out and the rewards are nonexistent, just do the quests. I never play the main story in Bethesda games so I have no idea how good or not it is after the mandatory intro.

It’s unquestionably shit. There is no exploration, only 3 “cities” that have no npc housing to break into. An entire static universe. Companions are GARBAGE. I was hyped for it like an idiot but after a few hours I dropped it for another kingdom come deliverance playthrough and immediately started having fun again.

There are loads of fetch quests in towns which are pretty pointless. Worthwhile quests tend to get nudged at you.
Explore the galaxy but realize that unless it's named is probably proc gen and not worth visiting unless you want to clear it for fun.
Desiging your own ship that you can walk around in is neat and the faction quests are pretty fun. Main quest is the worst of any bethesda game and companion quests are awful. The random quests you can run across are a mixed bag but you have to do a lot of fast traveling across empty space to run into them.
Getting bored and uninstalling in less than a week. Maybe more if you forgot to uninstall it.
