You know, I only learned it's something like kat-see thanks to FSN.
It's understandable that most people wouldn't know its proper pronunciation or its origin, but one has to wonder why the hell square went with this name when they could have chose literally anything else a normal person would be able to pronounce.
Come to think of it, I can't imagine it's any less confusing for the japanese either.
Probably because it already existed in the series before VII. It appeared in IV and again in VI, where its VII design first appeared. Square and the Japanese audience wouldn't have found it weird or obscure to re-use an existing design for a character.
it's pronounced "cat sih" you fricking benighted ape.
it's ket shee you morons. stop trusting localizations and dubs to get this right, there's a reason why localizers are stuck in their jobs instead of translating manuals, books, or even authors
I'm sure Square's translation people know how it's actually pronounced given they live in Tokyo, speak Japanese and also know enough about Celtic business to load up games like XIV with gaelic stuff when Cait made an appearance there. This is just pandering to actual morons.
Also moderately stupid if the voice actor is indeed Scottish and they instructed him to mispronounce his own culture.
Majority of FF7 fans called him Kat Shee because something something scottish lore but the games and the movie never pronounced his name so it was all speculation up until this point. Even the Echo-S fandub you can mod into your game had it pronounced Kat Shee.
It was never "speculation." >name is a verifiable real term borrowed into English >term is pronounced more or less correctly in Japanese as well as having a long-established pronunciation in English
There would have to be evidence that his name WASN'T pronounced in the normal correct way and contrary to the original game pronunciation for some reason, and that didn't exist at the time.
Cloud and Earith both matches the nature theme and Sephirotph is obviously a Kabbala reference so it should be Sefirot.

Not when it comes to romanisation of non-japanese names you moronic fricking homosexual. Japanese use katakana to sound out names, there is no universal agreed way to write it and they often use alternative spellings for stylistic reasons.
>I liked Barret's sailor suit tee-hee >God Barret stop being a moron and run! >Barret refuses to be accountable for the deaths he caused
Barret is my spiritual animal

Weebs are such fricking morons. I guess Sigurd from Fire Emblem: Genealogy of the Holy War is actually Siglud, and Joshua from FE8 is Jhosua. Didn't that very same manual even have Barret as "Bullet"? Might be misremembering.
>Her name is wordplay of "I Earth" as was said in the interview
That doesn't change anything. Aeris is not a mistranslation. By definition. Just because some homosexual elaborated on what he intended 20 years after the fact is irrelevant. It's especially irrelevant because in the game files, her name isn't even "Aerith", it's "Earith". So I could argue Earith was the intended spelling all along and it fits far better for your wordplay point anyways.
Either way, everything is gay and they should have just stuck with Aeris. I will never switch to the lisp pronunciation.

so why haven't they told the japanese VAs? they still pronounce as aeris
9 months ago
Anonymous
Because, even when "wrong", names can still get moulded by localisation.
Take Nissan cars for example: Amerifats pronounce it as "nee san", which is actually more accurate to how Japan pronounces it. But europoors pronounce it "Nih san". Even though both can't really be correct, you will see the official advertisments in each region pronounce it that way.
even if true, you're talking about FF7R. Witch is a totally off the walls, inaccurate fanfiction.
the characters are alt timeline clones. they're canonically not the real characters, the designs and events are completely incorrect so there's nothing to be gleamed from the names and pronunciations either.
That's not what canon means. All versions of these characters that appear in games or other official media are canon. They just occupy different continuities.
yeah so they're literally not the same characters and it's literally not the story of FF7.
hence the game can't tell you anything about the real character designs, the real plot or the real names.
it's all going to be inaccurate and can't be used as an authority.
>mistranslated names
Aeris is not a mistranslation. An actual mistranslation would require that there is some established way of translating "Earisu" into English, and there is not as it is an original name to the game. It's literally not possible for them to mistranslate it without knowing the developer's intent since Japan does not have direct letter exchange with English.
>It's ket shee in Japanese
Cait Sith is Gaelic. Relying on Japanese pronunciations as "canon" is fricking moronic weebshit. There's tons of foreign shit they can't transliterate properly.
You guys convinced me that Aeris is really Aerith, because it's a play on the word Earth. But now you're going to have to justify "Kate Sihth" The i in Cait is clearly silent, because it's a Cat. So it's pronounced like Cat
Because that's how the original creators want to pronounce it, do you intentionally mispronounce peoples names to what you think it should be? This shouldn't even be an argument.
It says that's how it's pronounced In Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, which is true. It doesn't nessisarally say that it's the correct pronunciation, just the one the game uses.
English is such a moronic language
How can you have a language where if you can read what it says you have no idea how to say, no wonder anglos are so fricking dumb and that includes ameritards
Is there even much difference between them beyond spellings? Anyway, "gaelic" generally refers to scottish gaelic with irish gaelic simply being called "irish".
spelling and pronunciation, you would find it difficult to understand what the other is saying
when you just say gaelic it could refer to either irish, scottish gaelic or manx, i know irish speakers who call irish gaelic
to be absoultley honest, all three were once the same language, all three descend from middle irish as the irish conquered the isle of man from the brittonic manx, and western scotland from the picts and the cumbrians (hence why pictish and cumbric are extinct, nothing is really known of the brittonic manx language)
The robot part didn't stop me with 808, and now that we know he's an AI independant of his creator because of "wonderful powers" it won't stop me here.
Reminds me of Brits whining about Americans pronouncing "Jaguar" incorrectly. (e.g. Clarkson in Top Gear)
Word comes from jaguarete, which is the tupi-guarani word for the animal in question, and it's pronounced how the Americans do it..
As for Cait, his katakana name in the original JP clearly indicates the Gaelic pronunciation. Playing with JP audio would fix the problem easily.
less than 1.1% of scotland speak scottish gaelic, it was only ever spoken in part of scotland anyway
everyone in Ireland learns it
only 1.5% of the population (north and republic) speaks irish gaelic
for comparison of the other surviving celtic languages
19% of wales speaks welsh
less than 1% of cornwall speaks cornish
1.5% of the isle of man speaks manx gaelic
6.7% of britanny speaks breton
>only 1.5% of the population (north and republic) speaks irish gaelic
to what extent? 1.5% is believable for complete fluency, competency and daily use, but it is a mandatory language in Irish schools so the majority are basically familiar with it despite being too moronic to speak it. the number who could have a basic conversation but don't use it is much higher

Yeah, don't know about those numbers. They don't align with census data.
self reported census data is often faulty as people tend to overstate the competency also that 40% can speak it but doesnt say how well they can speak it,
people only really speak irish in the gaeltachtaí

I've seen it but it explores a thesis everybody knows, that Irish is not a functional language and even then the methodology is questionable. There are definitely more people outside the Gaeltacht who can speak it reasonably OK but they are inactive and usually in educated demographics

thats quite sad but makes sense their is no point speaking irish if you both speak english, i was reading a book and it talked about how their are some irish words that no one knows the meaning of anymore as they stopped being used when the language fell out of use and as a collective people forgot what the words mean
there are enough differences that it would take some effort for an Irish speaker to understand a Scottish speaker especially southern Irish
hinted at a ulster irish speaker would have an easier time as ulster irish is closer to hebridean scots gaelic than the other irish dialects
the gaelic languages were more of specturm at one point but a lot of dialects went extinct and that
for example only three irish dialects survive, east ulster, munster and connacht, others such as leinster, west ulster and raithlin went extinct (there were more like east leinster vs west, etc)
the 4th dialect of irish is standard irish which a mix of the surviving three, there is also another 'dialect'...
which is urban irish but it isnt really irish it is what people who want to speak irish but cant speak it, the demand for irish language resources exceeds the supply so people have ended up creating a bastard creole, it uses english word order like "adjective" "object" rather than "object" "adjective" like in irish, it also uses english grammer rules like wing -> wings is sciathán -> sciatháns, rather than the irish sciathán -> sciatháin. the thing is urban irish speakers are now proud of the way they speak and dont want to know proper irish
manx gaelic went extinct and was resurected, all dialects of scots gaelic went extinct apart from hebridean gaelic
>it was only ever spoken in part of scotland anyway
How are you going to devote your life seething at porridge wogs and not have a fricking clue what you're talking about? Even the absolute southmost points in Scotland spoke their own dialects of the language.
im talking about west scotalnd vs east, highland vs lowland
scottish gaelic vs scots
although you are right that most of mainland scotland probably spoke scottish gaelic at some point
places like orkney some academics believe never spoke scottish gaelic and went from pictish to norse to norn to english
>only 1.5% of the population (north and republic) speaks irish gaelic
Yeah, but it's a mandatory class for at least 12 years of someones life, so everyone "learns" it. You learn about the mythology too and sidth (shee) is one of them.

Mythology is more taught in primary school. Possible it was differnent back then, but we learned about, Cu Chulainn, Salmon of Knowledge, Fionn mac Cumhaill, Tain Bo Cuailnge, Tir Na Nog, the Tutha De Danan and the Formmorians. For anyone else interested, this is actually what LotR is based on, if you don't believe me Google who lived next to PollnaGOLLUM. It's fun trying to remember them all, that's only a fraction from my head.
>me pronouncing wrong it as a moronic child who didn't know any better and the game had no VA means it has to canonically be wrong 25 years later when they do have VA

I'm Irish living in Ireland all my life and always said it as Kate Sith lol. Only cringe scots care about Gaelic. Almost nobody in Ireland cares as its not a language with any practical use.
Don't be ridiculous. The only people here who speak Irish are 80 year old boomers in rural Galway. Fricking nobody else speaks it at all and I'm not even able to speak it despite it being taught to us in school as a mandatory subject. I can speak more French than Irish and I only did French for 4 or 5 years in Secondary School.
>despite it being taught to us in school as a mandatory subject.
You said scots cared more about gaelic than you c**ts do about irish. Irish is your official language and you learn it in schools by your own admission. You don't learn gaelic in scottish schools.
Irish here. I don't care about Irish, I don't like it, but you are going to pronounce my vidya game characters names that a little Japanese man fondly created correctly.
it's not just a transliteration, it's a scottish word that they correctly pronounced in japanese but for some reason americans seem to be unable to do so
pretty sure everyone pronounced it as "kate sith" at the time until fanfiction homosexuals came into the picture and said it should be pronounced like
"cat shee" or some shit like that since its a Celtic thing.
>fanfiction homosexuals
No, it's because he's a cat and cait is just another way to write cat and Japanese always said cat. Fanfiction is what the official is adopting now, legitimazing what is wrong instead of the perfect way to correct it.
Fricking lol, even in Japan they usually spell it as ケットシー which is close to ket shee.

I swear Americans are the most confusing bunch of morons in this world.
Who...didnt know that thats how you pronounce it? How else were illiterate morons saying it? Ive known many illiterate ff morons. Never heard any say this cats name.
I had two strategy guides for FF7 as a kid. One was official and the other was some independent one. I liked the independent one, I thought it had the best golden chocobo guide, but also on the character pages he had it "Cait Sith (pronounced Cat Shee)" or whatever. So it's been going on for a long time, as long as Aeris vs. Aerith.
This is fricking bizarre. This isn't even like "Hydrocity", where there's understandable ambiguity. There's just a right and a wrong here, and pronouncing it as it's spelled is the wrong one. What's even more bizarre are the people who are now gloating about being wrong, because the official pronunciation happens to be wrong as well.
This happens with 90% of things. What is "right" is only dictated by how many people repeat it, even when it is completely counterintuitive and goes against anything you're seeing in front of you. And these are the people devs are listening to, who will never be satisfied.
I mean they never once pronounced his name before in FF, so yeah nows as good a time as any to make an official pronunciation.
Reminder that its also Teedus and Zidahn, not Tiedus and Zidaen
>I mean they never once pronounced his name before in FF, so yeah nows as good a time as any to make an official pronunciation.
You're aware that they didn't make up that name, right?
Everyone in game I mean. When I was 6 when the game came out, I called him Red 7, but later on called him Red 13, and still do. But the party constantly calling him Red 13 would be moronic.

The people of the Scottish Highlands did not trust the cat-sìth. They believed that it could steal a person's soul, before it was claimed by the gods, by passing over a corpse before burial; therefore, watches called the Fèill Fhadalach ('late wake') were performed night and day to keep the cat-sìth away from a corpse before burial. Methods of "distraction" such as games of leaping and wrestling, catnip, riddles and music would be employed to keep the cat-sìth away from the room in which the corpse lay. In addition, there were no fires where the body lay, as it was said that the cat-sìth was attracted to the warmth.

I don't care about english shitty phonetics where you all have to rely on words to convey the pronunciation of every part of another word and everyone says a different thing. It's always a pathetic shitshow watching you argue about how to pronounce something, garbage language.
It's still AerIS, homosexual.
I suppose his name is Thephiroth then too, huh? Is that how gays pronounce his name due to their godawful lisps?
That's not how japanese works, Katakana Se is never used to imply the th sound, Su is, specially at the end of words. Sefirosu is either Sephiroth, or Sefiros, both are correct, I just like Sephiroth more, specially because it goes well with Earith.
>I don't care about english shitty phonetics
That's just it, Japanese phonetics can mirror English if it wants to or it just spells it closely and sounds different.
What you're arguing is a pass to pronounce Japanese phonetics contrary to how they're actually said whether to win a Ganker debate or you're genuinely that ignorant.
>Katakana Se is never used to imply the th sound

You clearly have no idea what you are talking about you moronic cum guzzling homosexual. Let me guess, your flabby pig-like mouth pronounces sushi as sushy.
エ spoken on its own is "Eh", when drawn out "Ehhh" is already close to "Air".
Combined with ア, which is pronounced "Ah", you get "Eh-Ah" which sounds like "Air"
Someone from North Carolina might pronounce "Air" as "Err". But that is moronic, like you.
People have said this name differently before? Also, weird autism over pronunciation. A names origin doesn't really matter but how that person wants you to pronounce it because its their choice. We have names like Steven/Stephen which are pronounced the same or differently depending on people's preference and probably many other example of names I'm forgetting about right now.

Japan has an obsession with wordplay. They love it. Even the Japanese term for Trap, Otoko no oko, is a wordplay of something similar (I think it's Otoko noko but another, much nerdier anon will elaborate I'm sure).
Think about Megaman. His JP name, Rockman. Rock. & Roll, his Sister. Bass & Forte.
Dragon Ball. Bulma's ENTIRE family is named after undergarments. Trunks, Pan(tsu), their last name is fricking "Briefs". All the Saiyans are named after Vegetables, Kakarot (Carrot), Raditz (Radish), Vegeta (just straight up Vegetable), Nappa (Napa Cabbages). Piccolo, Pan, Flute. Mr Satan and Videl.

Dude, there must be like 100 nips top in the entirety of japan that know the word "tide". Their english vocabulary is kindergarten level.

It's understandable that most people wouldn't know its proper pronunciation or its origin, but one has to wonder why the hell square went with this name when they could have chose literally anything else a normal person would be able to pronounce.
Come to think of it, I can't imagine it's any less confusing for the japanese either.
It's not confusing in japanese because japanese is a "it's read as it's written" language when you use hiragana or katakana, like spanish, korean and a few more languages.
When Reeve pilots Cait Sith; does he actually say everything Cait Sith says? If so, then that makes him very gay and cute and I want to hug him as he talks like Cait Sith.
>[angry Celtic gibberish in the distance]
>Kot Shi
Faith an' begora to you too!
everyone only mentions the goidellic celts now not the britonnic
everyone always forgets the extinct ones too
>mfw the first thing I thought was how butthurt Celt speakers were going to be, and then I saw the fpbp
Based basketball american. Frick white "culture", it'll always be kate sith.
How in the frick can people not understand how to pronounce that?
How else could it be said?
fake
it's pronounced "cat sih" you fricking benighted ape.
Thank you for clarifying but you didn't need to be so rude
i'm sorry anon
It's ok
>cat sih
It has always been Ketto Shī
>fake
Nope. Go check yourself
i don't need to know, i know it's fake
homosexual it's kite sieve
Zoomers were taught to read by sounding out words as an absolute last resort so none of them can read anything they're not already familiar with
Sounding out words is a great way to mispronounce them.
thats what i was taught in the 90s as a millenial. its called whole language.
Black person that was the entire way language worked until the printing press. It's not something taught or learned.
You really are a stupid fricking moron.
do i have to remind you that the average american have no education?
Cat seethe, duh
it's ket shee you morons. stop trusting localizations and dubs to get this right, there's a reason why localizers are stuck in their jobs instead of translating manuals, books, or even authors
japanese people can't even pronounce "Thomas" correctly
Who cares? It's a Gaelic spirit's name, not an English or Japanese word/name.
>muh GAYLICK!!!!
its the name of a video game cat you dope shut up
I'm sure Square's translation people know how it's actually pronounced given they live in Tokyo, speak Japanese and also know enough about Celtic business to load up games like XIV with gaelic stuff when Cait made an appearance there. This is just pandering to actual morons.
Also moderately stupid if the voice actor is indeed Scottish and they instructed him to mispronounce his own culture.
I thought it was said Cat Sith
As an American I can confirm half of all people are barely literate
its english, one can only guess the proper pronounciation.
I still can't tell from the article headline alone
Ghoti
You act as though the English language makes any sense in regards to pronunciation.
Irish people pronounce it like "kuhchee"
Remake pronounces characters name correctly.. What's the confusion again?
>Kate Sihth
Isn't that how you pronounce it?
Ket shee
God damn Irish is a dumb language
It's Gaelic.
You mean Gaylic
you mean Gaylick
You mean gay dick.
Cat shit huh
No, not at all, it's khet shee
Ket She.
It has always been pronounced that way. Squeenix sure as hell didn't invent the name.
yes it is, ignore morons
Majority of FF7 fans called him Kat Shee because something something scottish lore but the games and the movie never pronounced his name so it was all speculation up until this point. Even the Echo-S fandub you can mod into your game had it pronounced Kat Shee.
It was never "speculation."
>name is a verifiable real term borrowed into English
>term is pronounced more or less correctly in Japanese as well as having a long-established pronunciation in English
There would have to be evidence that his name WASN'T pronounced in the normal correct way and contrary to the original game pronunciation for some reason, and that didn't exist at the time.
>It was never "speculation."
>Needs to speculate and cope
Lol
Untrue. Cid said his name in Dirge of Cerberus and it was "Kate."
DirgeBros stay Winning!
It's Kate Sihth and not Ket Shee
It's Air-ith and not Air-iss
It's Yoo-fee and not Yuh-fee
It's Nanaki and not Red XIII
and basically, you are fricking stupid.
YOO now crank dat soulja now watch me YOO now crank dat that soulja now watch me YOO crank dat soulja
It’s tide us and not teedus
too bad you're wrong about aeris you fat dumb fricking homosexual. it's literally spelled that way in the original game and manual.
>orginal game and manual
American detected
Aeris just sounds better. you gays just need to accept that Aeris will be her best name and any instance that isn't Aeris be rewritten to make Aeris.
It's why shit like spoony bard and son of a submariner are still fondly remembered despite it being an american only thing.
Why don't you say "ze" instead of "the" then
shut your ass up barry, you dumb fricking troon
>Aeris just sounds better.
ESL.
that's a mistranslation, it literally says E A RI SU right there
so her name is actually Earisu then?
no the U is silent
They also write the English word "the" as ザ but it's not Sonic Za Hedgehog. Aerith Is a play on the word "Earth." Which does not have an S it.
they pronounce it with an S so that's what it is
Then you should refer to Cloud as Kraud (Ku-Ra-U-Do) and Sephiroth as Sefiros (Se-Fi-Ro-Su). It literally is spelled that way.
Cloud and Earith both matches the nature theme and Sephirotph is obviously a Kabbala reference so it should be Sefirot.
My reply is for the it's-literally-spelled-that-way-gays. They can't say it's Aeris while saying it's Sephiroth because their argument would literally fall apart.
Not when it comes to romanisation of non-japanese names you moronic fricking homosexual. Japanese use katakana to sound out names, there is no universal agreed way to write it and they often use alternative spellings for stylistic reasons.
Gatsu always sounded better than just Guts, thats dumb, I agree Aeris is the superior name
>Japan in charge of getting romanization right
Balletto
>Hellpad
>I liked Barret's sailor suit tee-hee
>God Barret stop being a moron and run!
>Barret refuses to be accountable for the deaths he caused
Barret is my spiritual animal
>trusting mid 90's Japanese auto translation trash
Weebs are such fricking morons. I guess Sigurd from Fire Emblem: Genealogy of the Holy War is actually Siglud, and Joshua from FE8 is Jhosua. Didn't that very same manual even have Barret as "Bullet"? Might be misremembering.
That`s not. Her name is wordplay of "I Earth" as was said in the interview - deal with it.
Nobody cares about YOUR definition of better sound
>Her name is wordplay of "I Earth" as was said in the interview
That doesn't change anything. Aeris is not a mistranslation. By definition. Just because some homosexual elaborated on what he intended 20 years after the fact is irrelevant. It's especially irrelevant because in the game files, her name isn't even "Aerith", it's "Earith". So I could argue Earith was the intended spelling all along and it fits far better for your wordplay point anyways.
Either way, everything is gay and they should have just stuck with Aeris. I will never switch to the lisp pronunciation.
>That doesn't change anything. Aeris is not a mistranslation.By definition
>Developer is not canon - But I am!
>I can tell someone they're making errors in their job if the developer's unreliable headcanon is akshually different
lol
Someone fire whoever translated this. They made a translation error. How could they frick up so badly? It's RINDA, not Linda!
>I can tell someone they're making errors in their job if the developer's unreliable headcanon is akshually different
Just stick to your headcanon, anon, chill, I am sure even your fanfics on manga are more truth to original material than original author`s one.
>it's another episode of an angry localizer playing the white savior
How can we not trust these anglo experts in Japan with their naming conventions? Just last week I went out for beer with my buddy Jhosua.
Oh and can't forget Lleu(pronounced "Ray")
How could these awful translators disrespect their vision!?
L and R is the same for nips
There's Joshuas that are pronounced Yosua in EU
>There's Joshuas that are pronounced Yosua in EU
don't tell him that, he'll have an autistic fit about how europoors don't actually speak the right english that proud mcdonalds gorging americans do
anon, 's' and 'th' are also the same for nips
Not that I have an opinion on this particular name.
>Lleu
to be fair Ll is quite hard to pronounce for non welsh speakers
Lleu is the welsh version of the celtic god Lugus, Lugh is the irish version
It's easy, just pretend you're a cat hissing, then add phlegm.
Florina? Eww, get that shit out of here. She's clearly meant to be Fe-girlna. Stupid westerners and their disrespect of the superior Japanese!
>Definitely not mad
Anon he literally said to you that "Aerith" name has some documented idea behind it and you started to spam some game materials from the time when the Internet was non-existent to prove him wrong - I`d say you are fricking moron.
The fact that you missed my point even after that many posts and examples is hilarious. You're a fricking idiot, genuinely.
(You) Spammed materials with mistakes in translation to prove that "Aerith" is mistranslated name despite the fact that the name was designed to be this way. Jackass.
Thank you for proving that you're a fricking idiot and completely misunderstood the point of my posts. I never said Aerith was a mistranslation you fricking moron. My entire point was that "Earisu" couldn't be "mistranslated". That implies some kind of error on the part of the translator, and they made none.
Wasn`t it
you then? Maybe another son of the prostitute...
>>That doesn't change anything. Aeris is not a mistranslation.By definition
>Noo my idea of fantasy name is better than original developer`s
>Why yes, I do call them Siglud, Jhosua, Fe-girlna, and Rinda
>Japanese developers are makes mistakes means that one made mistake too
The very same instruction manual page that names Aeris "Aerith" has Barret spelled "Barett" as already pointed out in this thread, so yeah. Not to mention the numerous other mistakes they made, pic related.
I was just posting a few of numerous examples of the Japanese fricking up latin-based language names. My point wasn't that they made a mistake. My point was "Aeris" is not a "mistranslation".
This is not how adults argue.
Disrespectful, indeed. Sheeda is totally a real name, not Caeda.
This one is funny because she's called Shiida in every country besides the US where they renamed her Caeda for some reason
Honestly I like Kayda better
They say it as "see-da" in FEH.
so why haven't they told the japanese VAs? they still pronounce as aeris
Dumbass that clearly says "AERNH"
>エアリス
Eh-Ah-Ri-Su, sounds like Aeris to me.
If you japanese people to pronounce The Earth, they would say Ze Earsu
Why do you like being wrong?
even if true, you're talking about FF7R.
They just occupy different continuities.
yeah so they're literally not the same characters and it's literally not the story of FF7.
hence the game can't tell you anything about the real character designs, the real plot or the real names.
it's all going to be inaccurate and can't be used as an authority.
indeed. they're both canon, just not the same canon.
I prefer universes where people let you change their names when you meet them.
It actually is Aeris because much Japan can't pronouns th-
>It's Air-ith and not Air-iss
>It's Yoo-fee and not Yuh-fee
Yes, these are corrections to mistranslated names
>It's Kate Sihth and not Ket Shee
It's ket shee in Japanese so this one keeps the "wrong" translation, contrary to the other two.
>mistranslated names
Aeris is not a mistranslation. An actual mistranslation would require that there is some established way of translating "Earisu" into English, and there is not as it is an original name to the game. It's literally not possible for them to mistranslate it without knowing the developer's intent since Japan does not have direct letter exchange with English.
>It's ket shee in Japanese
Cait Sith is Gaelic. Relying on Japanese pronunciations as "canon" is fricking moronic weebshit. There's tons of foreign shit they can't transliterate properly.
I see, so there's 1 other anon with an IQ greater than room temperature in this thread.
>It's Air-ith and not Air-iss
Wrong. My original game disc and first-party game manual says
>Aeris
>my dumb american localization says...
lmaooooooo okay moron
Actually Aerith is pronounced Alice.
Actually it’s Erf
You guys convinced me that Aeris is really Aerith, because it's a play on the word Earth. But now you're going to have to justify "Kate Sihth" The i in Cait is clearly silent, because it's a Cat. So it's pronounced like Cat
Because that's how the original creators want to pronounce it, do you intentionally mispronounce peoples names to what you think it should be? This shouldn't even be an argument.
the i isnt silent, it modifies the a into an ay sound, just like a t-e would
I liked in Remake/Rebirth how the chars just call him “Red” for short.
I will never accept the Aerith retcon, they fricked up during Advent Children and rode with it rather than admit they're wrong.
Is it TIDE-Us or TEE-DUS?
SEE-CIL or CEHH - CIL?
Square themselves cannot make up their minds in their official products, so why should we trust them on a Gaelic name?
Anyone who ever called her Yuh-fee was a fricking moron
>It's Yoo-fee and not Yuh-fee
This was controversial?
>It's Tee-Fuh and not Tiff-ah
Missed one
only ESLs say "tiffa"
Nah it's Keto Shii
Aerisu
Kuroudo
Sephirosu
Cope
It's Midgard, not Midgar.
It's Bullet, not Barret.
>Kate Sith pronunciation.
As God intended…and everything is alright in the world!
It’s literally just not pronounced like that.
It says that's how it's pronounced In Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, which is true. It doesn't nessisarally say that it's the correct pronunciation, just the one the game uses.
it's actually pronounced "Kato Sexo"
I named him "Gatonto" on the original as a kid. So that's what i'm calling him
ESL here
Its mah-ko, not may-ko
its Yoo-fee, not Yuh-fee
Its Ka-eet seeth, not kate sith
English is such a moronic language
How can you have a language where if you can read what it says you have no idea how to say, no wonder anglos are so fricking dumb and that includes ameritards
that gaelic, you fricking idiot
anon its scottish gaelic, not irish gaelic or manx gaelic
Is there even much difference between them beyond spellings? Anyway, "gaelic" generally refers to scottish gaelic with irish gaelic simply being called "irish".
there are enough differences that it would take some effort for an Irish speaker to understand a Scottish speaker especially southern Irish
spelling and pronunciation, you would find it difficult to understand what the other is saying
when you just say gaelic it could refer to either irish, scottish gaelic or manx, i know irish speakers who call irish gaelic
to be absoultley honest, all three were once the same language, all three descend from middle irish as the irish conquered the isle of man from the brittonic manx, and western scotland from the picts and the cumbrians (hence why pictish and cumbric are extinct, nothing is really known of the brittonic manx language)
I thought it was pronounced GATO SEXOOOOOO
Are you sure about that?
AAAAAAAAAHHHHHHH PLAP PLAP PLAP PLAP
The robot part didn't stop me with 808, and now that we know he's an AI independant of his creator because of "wonderful powers" it won't stop me here.
it's pronounced Cait Sith
How did Atlus with SMT Devil Survivor pronounce it right but no one st Square can?
?si=JXgnBYQUI9hrWY1I
Thats japanese moron
>NOOOOOOOOOOOO MY CULTURE APPROPRIATION REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
You're literally just another side of the rope dangler coin.
>use a term that comes directly from another language
>pronounce it incorrectly
Reminds me of Brits whining about Americans pronouncing "Jaguar" incorrectly. (e.g. Clarkson in Top Gear)
Word comes from jaguarete, which is the tupi-guarani word for the animal in question, and it's pronounced how the Americans do it..
As for Cait, his katakana name in the original JP clearly indicates the Gaelic pronunciation. Playing with JP audio would fix the problem easily.
AH YES JUST LIKE THE BLACK MAGE FROM 10 WAS KNOWN AS RUURUU
God frick off already
why are you morons pretending that 25 years ago you were pronouncing it any other way other than "Kate Sith"?
Literally every single English speaking person would have pronounced it that way.
Because I was taught Gaelic in school as one of my 2 language curriculums.
t. dumbass
Don't try to normalize your ignorance anon, it's unbecoming of you.
Absolute cope to think anyone outside of Scotland was learning Gaelic in the fricking late 90s in the English speaking world.
Maybe because I was born in Scotland in 1988?
I didn't say anything about the rest of the world.
Why double down on you being a midwit?
you've triple downed on your cope
everyone in Ireland learns it
less than 1.1% of scotland speak scottish gaelic, it was only ever spoken in part of scotland anyway
only 1.5% of the population (north and republic) speaks irish gaelic
for comparison of the other surviving celtic languages
19% of wales speaks welsh
less than 1% of cornwall speaks cornish
1.5% of the isle of man speaks manx gaelic
6.7% of britanny speaks breton
>only 1.5% of the population (north and republic) speaks irish gaelic
to what extent? 1.5% is believable for complete fluency, competency and daily use, but it is a mandatory language in Irish schools so the majority are basically familiar with it despite being too moronic to speak it. the number who could have a basic conversation but don't use it is much higher
Yeah, don't know about those numbers. They don't align with census data.
https://www.irishtimes.com/ireland/2023/05/30/census-2022-number-of-irish-speakers-increases-but-only-10-can-speak-it-very-well/
self reported census data is often faulty as people tend to overstate the competency also that 40% can speak it but doesnt say how well they can speak it,
people only really speak irish in the gaeltachtaí
the %s are of people who use it in their lives, it excludes educational only speakers
however you are right it may likely be higher, everone i know who learnt irish at school can not speak it, aside from things like "hello" and "my name is"
there is a good documentary called 'no béarla' (no english) where a man tries to go around ireland only speaking irish and he cant get leave dublin as no one spoke irish
I've seen it but it explores a thesis everybody knows, that Irish is not a functional language and even then the methodology is questionable. There are definitely more people outside the Gaeltacht who can speak it reasonably OK but they are inactive and usually in educated demographics
thats quite sad but makes sense their is no point speaking irish if you both speak english, i was reading a book and it talked about how their are some irish words that no one knows the meaning of anymore as they stopped being used when the language fell out of use and as a collective people forgot what the words mean
cont
as this poster
hinted at a ulster irish speaker would have an easier time as ulster irish is closer to hebridean scots gaelic than the other irish dialects
the gaelic languages were more of specturm at one point but a lot of dialects went extinct and that
for example only three irish dialects survive, east ulster, munster and connacht, others such as leinster, west ulster and raithlin went extinct (there were more like east leinster vs west, etc)
the 4th dialect of irish is standard irish which a mix of the surviving three, there is also another 'dialect'...
which is urban irish but it isnt really irish it is what people who want to speak irish but cant speak it, the demand for irish language resources exceeds the supply so people have ended up creating a bastard creole, it uses english word order like "adjective" "object" rather than "object" "adjective" like in irish, it also uses english grammer rules like wing -> wings is sciathán -> sciatháns, rather than the irish sciathán -> sciatháin. the thing is urban irish speakers are now proud of the way they speak and dont want to know proper irish
manx gaelic went extinct and was resurected, all dialects of scots gaelic went extinct apart from hebridean gaelic
>it was only ever spoken in part of scotland anyway
You learn about the mythology too and sidth (shee) is one of them.
is it one of those things people go to school for and forget as i said here
everone i know who learnt irish at school cant speak it, aside from things like "hello" and "my name is" and only one of them knew anything about irish mythology, and the others said they had never heard of the ulster cycle and cú chulainn
>everone i know who learnt irish at school cant speak it
Nobody is really refuting this. But even I, a Gaelic moron, knows how to pronounce written irish from hearing it so often. Someone in this thread literally said
>Absolute cope to think anyone outside of Scotland was learning Gaelic in the fricking late 90s in the English speaking world.
yeah still knowing pronunciation makes sense i was just supprised when you said the mytholgy was taught as well as i was a bit shocked only one of them had heard of cú chulainn,
Mythology is more taught in primary school.
I learned the correct pronunciation from a game magazine.
SCOTTISHBROS
WELSH BROS
WE LOST
WILLIAM WALLACE DIDNT DIE FOR THIS
>Called a fire shitting giant.
>Ended up on a pike and displayed for all to see that he was a traitorous human.
why would the welsh give a shit, when the scottish came over from ireland they fought brutal wars agiant the welsh
Welsh is actually in a separate group of Celtic languages, anyway. I think with Cornish and Breton.
Actually it's pronounced "flesh light."
I smell Scottish tears ITT.
This pleases me greatly. Your funny language should have been stamped out years ago.
Eh if we're going back that far your funny language is long dead too buddy.
Overly cutesy furry design ruins the asethetic of the entire game.
Cool, now change Tidus too.
actually it's pronounced "plush cat sexo"
L take. It's pronounced like "catchy".
can't wait for 3d cait sith porn, bros
why?
what in the world do you degenerate freaks even sexualize in a cat plushie?
NTA, but you do realize how degenerate the web can get, right? Hell, Cait Sith smut is tame to what's already posted on some of the red boards.
"A cat is fine too.."
Pff, I wish. People only give a shit about overwatch these days.
3d pony MLP porn still seems pretty common. The kind where it's literally just a pony head on a recolored human model.
The absolute worst.
I always find it funny honestly. All that insanity and kink stuff just to end up jerking off to what's basically a normal woman.
Makes me feel like the weirdo for jerking off to ponies and animatronics. And when they put them on a human body, it's always the most generic WEG shit imaginable with no sense of individuality (not that it should look human to begin with). Honestly makes me want to vomit.
Don't feel bad anon I'd try and romance a robot too
I always pronounced his name that way without the internet, also her name is Aeris
That's...not even the proper way to pronounce it..
>not kaat shee
pre-order cancelled
I'm Irish living in Ireland all my life and always said it as Kate Sith lol. Only cringe scots care about Gaelic. Almost nobody in Ireland cares as its not a language with any practical use.
Black person more people in your country speak irish than scots speak gaelic.
It's your official language for frick's sake.
Its the same thing
Irish here. I don't care about Irish, I don't like it, but you are going to pronounce my vidya game characters names that a little Japanese man fondly created correctly.
>Only cringe scots care about Gaelic.
>Colonize me harder bongland, yes yes fill me with pakis now
have a nice day
It's Kite Sith
Sith like Star Wars
>ACKSHUALLY IT IS PRONOUNC CLAUD NOT CLOWD
Cloud isn't a real name in the tradional sense but Claud is likely the German name it's based on.
What the heck is that bombonation
why are they so moronic?
his name is cat shi even in japanese
>taking shitty transliterations as the truth
you're stupider than those morons who write keikaku instead of plan.
it's not just a transliteration, it's a scottish word that they correctly pronounced in japanese but for some reason americans seem to be unable to do so
>you're stupider than those morons who write keikaku instead of plan.
Captcha: v0y4j (Bon Voyage)
So they're intentionally mispronouncing his name for dumb Americans.
>Kate Sith
WTF Cait Sith is a girl???????????????????
Kate Sith just sounds better to say
>Sihth
How does every English speaker not look at Sith and think it's pronounced "sih-th?"
pretty sure everyone pronounced it as "kate sith" at the time until fanfiction homosexuals came into the picture and said it should be pronounced like
"cat shee" or some shit like that since its a Celtic thing.
>fanfiction homosexuals
No, it's because he's a cat and cait is just another way to write cat and Japanese always said cat. Fanfiction is what the official is adopting now, legitimazing what is wrong instead of the perfect way to correct it.
youre not japanese, stop making shit up on their behalf
His name is Catchy, it was Catchy and it will always be Catchy
I'll always say Cat Sith.
Thread/
Dont even know why this thread went on as long as it did
Same. I dont care how its pronounced, I called him cat sith. Hes a cat
They call her Aeris in Japanese
That's because "su" is for the "th" sound phonetically.
Would you also call the silver haired legend "Sefiros" now?
I HATE THIS
>say noar instead of nwar
>get called a moron
HOW WAS I SUPPOSED TO KNOW?
N'WAH
>always think is pronounced like nwah
>but it’s actually pronounced n’wah
first time reading it just now, said "kate sith" in my head. You gays are just gay
>sean
>saoirse
>siobhan
i purposefully mispronounce these names because I am a proud American who speaks American. Localizations are always correct.
>square enix thinks english-speakers are morons
based
ket shih
]
capcha is T0MMY so maybe the ai wants that as pronounciation
Aeris
Fricking lol, even in Japan they usually spell it as ケットシー which is close to ket shee.
Square thinks English speakers are too fricking stupid to deal with pronouncing a word in a way it isn't spelled.
>Square thinks English speakers are too fricking stupid to deal with pronouncing a word in a way it isn't spelled.
Considering the celebrating in the original tweet, I don't blame them.
>"we was right all along ya'll!"
A bit of a grim scroll to be honest.
>Americans are the kings of shaming for cultural appropriation
>So upset that they have no culture that they pretend to be part of others
>Company prides itself on being inclusive and all that shit
>Western Branch of the company so incapable of doing the research and helps with the erasure of an already dying dialect and culture after stealing the name
>Appease a bunch of burgers by mispronouncing it in English because they're moronic and were 5 when they played the original 7.
I swear Americans are the most confusing bunch of morons in this world.
I bet Square Enix was just afraid to create confusion among the Americans that always said it wrong. Adopting the wrong as official is bad though.
>argue for years about the pronunciation of Sabin from FF6 with friends
>Is it Sabbin?
>Saybin
>Sahbin
>Sabeen
>Years later go to check FFWiki to find out the Japanese propunciation from the katakana
>In Japanese his name is fricking Mash
I TOLD YOU
I FRICKING TOLD YOU
Who...didnt know that thats how you pronounce it? How else were illiterate morons saying it? Ive known many illiterate ff morons. Never heard any say this cats name.
That's how I've pronounced it in my head since I was 9
It's actually cat shit
Yeah that's what I've always called him
I had two strategy guides for FF7 as a kid. One was official and the other was some independent one. I liked the independent one, I thought it had the best golden chocobo guide, but also on the character pages he had it "Cait Sith (pronounced Cat Shee)" or whatever. So it's been going on for a long time, as long as Aeris vs. Aerith.
Reminds me of the Fire Emblem Fates localization that butchered Japanese names
I'll allow it but on the basis that he's characterized as a duplicitous trickster trying to fool you from the get go so it only makes sense.
Ket Shee or Cat Sih? I'm never going to Kate Sith, frick Americans
Too bad they chose to spell and pronounce Aeris wrong
So it's wrong?
Cool okay.
cat shit
They should just call him Magic Cat and drop the irish shit altogether.
bump
This is fricking bizarre. This isn't even like "Hydrocity", where there's understandable ambiguity. There's just a right and a wrong here, and pronouncing it as it's spelled is the wrong one. What's even more bizarre are the people who are now gloating about being wrong, because the official pronunciation happens to be wrong as well.
This happens with 90% of things. What is "right" is only dictated by how many people repeat it, even when it is completely counterintuitive and goes against anything you're seeing in front of you. And these are the people devs are listening to, who will never be satisfied.
Thanks for being mad.
If you think that "being mad" matters more than being right, then your age must start with 1.
But why are you so pressed? How does this affect your everyday life?
Final Fantasy is a shit series, I'm just happy that you're seething. Also, you're wrong. Square said so
>b-but muh pronounciation
Wrong.
>kate
HMOFA chads we won, confirmed female
I mean they never once pronounced his name before in FF, so yeah nows as good a time as any to make an official pronunciation.
Reminder that its also Teedus and Zidahn, not Tiedus and Zidaen
>I mean they never once pronounced his name before in FF, so yeah nows as good a time as any to make an official pronunciation.
You're aware that they didn't make up that name, right?
They still decide how they want it pronounced. Its their character.
I'm sorry but that only goes so far. You can't pull the "Brfxxccxxmnpcccclllmmnprxvclmnckssqlbb11116 is pronounced 'Albin'" shit.
That's what you think, b***h.
Reminds me of when "Barbaraccia" got mangled into "Valvalis" in FFIV.
>The Descent of Jihad
European?
I know you think you're being funny but, literally yes
I've already pronounced it kate sith all the time though
asking an American about pronunciation is like asking a bus driver how to fly a plane
>pronounce gaelic word correctly and you're cool
>pronounce latin or greek word correctly and you're a weird autist
hmm
Who the frick said pronouncing cait sith properly was cool? It's extreme nerd shit. Everyone says Kate Sith because that's what it looks like.
If some gay honestly came up to my face and tried to make me pronounce it properly, I would obliterate him with my anus funk.
idk I've just seen a ton of people "actually" on this and I've never seen anyone "actually" on, for example, "cerberus".
uh, how else could you possibly pronounce that?
Thats how i always pronounced it.
Like
How else are you supposed to pronounce it?
lol
It would just be too stupid the other way. Another good decision. Like everyone calling Red XIII just "Red"
>Like everyone calling Red XIII just "Red"
I assume that anyone who does this is just too stupid to know Roman numerals.
Everyone in game I mean. When I was 6 when the game came out, I called him Red 7, but later on called him Red 13, and still do. But the party constantly calling him Red 13 would be moronic.
>Red XIII
How are you supposed to say it anyway, like Red EKSEE?!
Bait?
Red Zie, rhymes with dead eye.
Red Xiii is so proud of his chinese heritage that he has his last name all in caps.
Reminder that it's "Ketto Shi" when written in Japanese so this is bullshit no matter how you look at it
It's always been "Kate Sith", wtf is Ganker on about?
>have to babify names so Americans can pronounce them
lol. lmao even.
Will OUR HERO Cait Sith have an Irish accent in Rebirth?
Irish and Scottish people can't even speak their own language. Literal meme countries. And Scotland isn't even a real country.
OP here. I didn't expect this many replies.
Being told that you're wrong for being right tends to not sit well with people who like being right
love final fantasy
absolutely despise the fans and can never last more than 20 posts in a thread
frick you
The better question is will he have a bigger role?
It's Claude.
reminder that the original characters' names are:
- Claude
- Seifer Roth
- Alice
- Bullet
- Teepha
- Lead XIII
- Kate Seth
- Sid
- Euphie
- Van Cent
Source: I work at Squire Nix
It's pronounced Cat Shit and anyone who disagrees is just fricking wrong.
omg is that real?
cat thighs
>Reeve is canonically a furry
so does this spergout prove that "anti-weebs" coming from filthy frank don't actually care about japanese culture and actually have less respect for the japanese more than the supposed weaboo menace?
>REE IT'S NOT CHRISTOPHER, MOM
All these years later and arris gays still don't know that su can be an S or TH.
Kuraudo = Cloud
Tifa = Tifa
Earisu = Earith
Baretto = Bullet
Reddo XIII = Red XIII
Ketto Shi = Ket Shi
Vinsento = Vincent
Shido = Cid
Sefirosu = Sephiroth
Anything else is americans doing american shit.
Cloud is actually Claude
Claude would be Kurōdo not Kuraudo.
aerisu is Aeris. Not Aerith.
It's not Aerisu, it's Earisu, and it obviously references Easu (earth), so Earith is the most correct translation, not Aerith and much less Aeris.
That's not even phonetically correct.
Aerith is more close to "air".
I don't care about english shitty phonetics where you all have to rely on words to convey the pronunciation of every part of another word and everyone says a different thing. It's always a pathetic shitshow watching you argue about how to pronounce something, garbage language.
>Katakana Se is never used to imply the th sound
you're actually moronic. you're so fricking dumb it hurts. please stop talking about shit you literally know nothing about
Also "Aasu" is the correct Japanese phoneticization of saying "earth". "Ea" together sounds more like "air"
there are no "correct phoneticization" of english words in japan. Japanese isnt english
They still have phonetic rules and you don't seem to have a grasp of how vowel combinations work.
when non english speaker sees the word Earth that person is going to pronounce it more like エアrth than how it supposed to. Thats why the name is like that
So you pronounce "earth" like "Air-th"?
Is that like when people says the "h" in "whip"?
エア and english word Air are not any were close
That's literally how they pronounce it, moron. That's how the English pronounce it, too. They don't use Rs like American English.
It's still AerIS, homosexual.
I suppose his name is Thephiroth then too, huh? Is that how gays pronounce his name due to their godawful lisps?
His name is spelt Sefirosu you dumb twat. I guess his name is Sefiros now is it?
Thefiros
There ya go, Black person.
Japanese has its own word for bullet, it doesn't need a romanization
holy kino
The original song Into Free was based off of was titled Samayoeru Aoi Dangan, which means "Wandering Blue Bullet"
>anon doesn't know what a loanword is
>i-it's a loanword!!
>japanese has a "bu" and a "ba" sounds but they're going to use "barreto" instead of "burreto" to represent it
>Japanese has its own word
>he doesn't know
you're in for a rude awakening
doubt it since you didn't explain anything
is not ketto shi is ketto shitto
that is why people make the joke cat shit
no it isn't.
>obvious cat shit joke
Ka-Ching
Always two there are, a master and an apprentice
People have said this name differently before? Also, weird autism over pronunciation. A names origin doesn't really matter but how that person wants you to pronounce it because its their choice. We have names like Steven/Stephen which are pronounced the same or differently depending on people's preference and probably many other example of names I'm forgetting about right now.
>A names origin doesn't really matter but how that person wants you to pronounce it because its their choice
it's a fictional character
It's still Ket Shee. Japan pronounces the name correctly, the moron dubbers do not, idiots.
is it Koopa or Bowser?
It's Bowser, King of the Koopa(s) (or Kuppa(s) if you want the Japanese name).
Black person.
>King of the Koopa(s)
No, they're called nokonoko!
I can scant think of a less interesting argument than "Aeris" vs. "Aerith".
it's aeris, aerith is a retcon
it's cat shee, kate sith is a retcon
remake is not a remake, it's a retcon
you're a retard
the schizo lashes out as he's confronted with reality
you're the one going against what the official names are lmao
is aerisu and ketto shee and remakuu in the room with us right now?
low IQ bad faith argument
it's always been aeris
it's always been caith sith (not kate)
time jannies don't exist in FF7
It's it a bad fais argument or a bad fahee argument?
of course its like this.
which morons actually thought it would be Ket shee wtf is wrong with them?
I called it Kate Sith back then.
I'll call it Kate Sith now.
Cope
>I mispronounce words
Yes.
>Verification not required.
I'm calling him cat shit and nobody can stop me.
IT'S "CAWT SHEE"
IT'S GAELIC
YOU FRICKING moronS
Barrier suit or Varia suit?
Varia
Barrier sounds correct.
Varia sounds trademarkable.
Many irish can't even pronounce th wouldn't it be "kate sit"?
In FF7, Aeris is pronounced "Air ihss".
I'm loving the seethe. Never played the game but it's always been Kate Sith.
Stay mad.
No thankth, it will always be Aerith.
Why is it so difficult for Americans to pronounce words? Just read out out loud
Ryu
Kate Sith is how you say it out loud.
Lol. I had to listen to you crusty losers blabbering on about "UHMMMMM AKSHUALLY IT'S GAELIC SO IT'S PROYNOUYNCED KAT-SHEE HYUK HYUK HYUK" for a decade.
Being btfo'd by Square itself, that's just embarrassing.
it’s over…
do you pronounce sae and tae as "say" and "tay" because atlus fricked up on that too?
Why did Reeve give Cait Shit such wide hips?
for giving birth
>everyone itt getting trolled
embarrassing
It's strange to visit Ganker instead of my usual boards and see how many anons deepthroat any and all bait.
Truly baffling.
They know they are getting baited, but they still eat it to start an argument. But hey, it is far better than the usual political/schizo arguments
Seriously, so much seething has been caused by “Cait Sith”
…Even Resetera is tearing itself up over which pronunciation is better and calling all the users who prefer the English spelling “insensitive” and “ignorant”
Truly we’ve been blessed this day lol
If that's true they are not wrong (for once).
I don't know what is wrong with Americans, but even the most leftist one has that imperialistic mind at heart.
They don't give a shit about whatever the original creators my intend on anything, they drink their troonslation slop, and will defend it to the end of the earth, even the blatant mistakes will be defended some way or another and made into the canon, and if you don't agree with them, they will lynch you.
The game will release, he will be named Ket Shi in japanase, and they will tell you something like you are wrong because Square said it on a tweet....or make up things about how the japanese language is limited and they can't say it right.....or say that the english one is canon because the setting is more western than japanese...
They are mentally ill, I've never seen Europeans be like this on this matter.
I for one am looking forward to all the cait sith kemono shota porn.
It is me or the kemono community is growing? I haven't seen that much furgay (but japan) things until recently, mostly coming here
How creepy is a talking cat if his/her eyes are always closed.
completely depends on the voice
More importantly than that, I am rather curious how ケット・シーのテーマ (ketto shii no teemu) will sound in Rebirth.
>hurr durr where is england / america on the FF7 world map?
what a moron LOL
Wait a minute...you guys just want to continue your dumb twitter arguments here so you can call each other Black person homosexuals!
Wait a second.
Who the frick ever pronounced it anything other than kate sith? that's literally how it's spelled.
how do you pronounce arkansas
>american troglodytes when they research gaelic pronunciation
it's ancient ebonics, nobody cares about that trash
moronic invalidum, you are literally typing in latin ebonics.
dead cultures need not apply either.
The entire english language is just the ebonic version of latin. Gaelic is more a legtimate language than english ever was.
And yet they are all irrelevant in the modern day. Cope.
Roma Invicta
I thought English was a Germanic root language, and it just happened to have a shitload of Latin-based nonsense crowbarred in as a result of the Norman Conquest and French being the official language of government for a time?
english is literally a mutt language that is equal parts latin, french and german
Cait Sith? I love that album.
this but with cait sith music studio's innocent malice
You guys need to stop complaining about the cat's pronunciation and answer some REAL questions, like so...
Would you?
As long as it's just the cat and not the guy behind it.
Big fan of english-speaking dribblers taking genuine pride in being told by a Japanese developer that they're too dumb to pronounce a word properly so they've had to alter it specifically for them like the localisation equivalent to a short bus.
They don't even say it right in Japanese, homosexual.
https://twitter.com/valarynn/status/1709347752264552540
Bend over lil homie
Pretty sure it's ketshee not kettoshy homosexual.
>attached to the pronunciation of [word literally originating from said dying language and clearly what the character is based on]
Why are yanks like this? Take the L and move on.
It's unhinged because it's not even an obscure concept. Literally just a banshee but with a cat.
ackshually i pronounce it as bane sith now!
It's especially moronic because gaelic fairyshit is one of the staples of American fantasy.
this guy's really showing his entire ass over this lmao
It's literally Catshee, akin to Banshee meaning woman fairy/spirit.
>more than quarter of a century later
>people still argue about the correct pronunciation
ENOUGH
IT'S NOT HEALTHY
Whats the deal with the Sexo thing? Do people actually find Cait Sith sexy?
Wait you don't?
People find every video game cat sexy, anon.
>those thighs
Do you not?
Wait you guys are playing the EN dub?
Game is set in a very western-inspired world with most of the cast (let alone the majority of your party) being white people and many names being direct references to either English words (Cloud) or characters from western media (Biggs and Wedge). Playing in anything but English is factually incorrect.
Nah.
>literally wearing a western hat
If I met a real person who moved this autistically I think I'd instinctively punch them.
Women are allowed to do things like that irl and get away with it
This has been one of my most successful threads in recent memory.
Why does it matter? You gonna play him for like 15 mintues then bench him the rest of the game.
The characters are going to talk to each other a lot regardless of who's in the active party.
Ok so now that the dusth has settled, will this scene be in Rebirth?
It'll probably be changed to "The Princess' IQ."
They will convert the stage show bit into another choreography extravaganza. It's probably what the dancing in the trailer is from.
I didn't really need another reason to skip the remakes, but thanks.
>in english dub, they say kate sith
>in japanese dub, they say ket shee
Everyone should be happy about this
I thought you guys were against censorship of the original Japanese intent. Oh wait I forgot that only applies to female characters wearing bikinis or marrying e-girls
I'm back in the thread just want to say how happy I am that people got so fricking butt flustered at me for using the patrician Aeris pronunciation.
>Kate seethe
>Anglos are so barbaric that they literally cannot create a language without moronic pronunciation rules
Romans should've genocided everyone north of the Danube
>Kate
this confirms she is trans now. yay for diversity! 🙂
Before the Thread got locked people at Resetera even started to imply Max might be Racist…all because of a dumb robot cat name lol
They literally cannot help but eat their own…all over wrongthink
Self-inflicted wound, deserved.
cultural imperialism is real
this dood did an anti-woke crime here
lmao. This is why everyone should stay well away from that website. The users are all nut cases and the owner is a money israelite and only cares about exploiting their madness for profit.
he's a troony homosexual for having an account on that mentally ill shithole.
Here is how Trump will win 2024
In the western dub sure, but the Kana still has the "Ket Shii" sound
>Cait Sith is named after a fairy from scottish folklore
huh, all these years and i never knew
Wait, americans say Tidus as Tide-us? Like the tides from the sea?
I know this is bait and I know the VA + ingame examples say "Tee duss" like dumbasses, but this is one time where they're all wrong.
And you want to fricking tell me that, out of this CULTURE-WIDE phenomenon that's been going on for decades if not centuries, that they did not, in fact, intend to pronounce the name of their WATER-THEMED PROTAGONIST of a game HEAVILY FEATURING WATER/BOATS/BLITZBALL as "Tide us?"
Frick off.
They were doing different wordplay though.
Dude, there must be like 100 nips top in the entirety of japan that know the word "tide". Their english vocabulary is kindergarten level.
Tida is apparently sun in Okinawa or something like that.
It's not confusing in japanese because japanese is a "it's read as it's written" language when you use hiragana or katakana, like spanish, korean and a few more languages.
the only actual sensible "the japs are full of shit on this" poster itt
You forgot that tides follow the moon (on her pilgrimage).
How do you all pronounce "Los Angeles"?
Los Anheles.
New South Wales.
Shithole.
Can Americans even pronounce Gainsborough correctly?
Genuine question not trolling
That's a normal name. You should be asking if bongs can pronounce Beauchamp correctly.
>That's a normal name
that's just what people think
Gains burrow
Heya Hoya Heya hoya
Can americans even talk? Do they know english?
We know a few words, but we get confused about the meanings at times.
No, too busy pronouncing Happisburgh wrong.
saying Teedus is moronic
saying Teefa is moronic
saying Aerith is moronic
Teefa is right though, you're correct otherwise. If it had 2 f's then we'd talk about it being wrong.
I'm surprised no one's arguing about Buttz vs Bartz or Terra vs Tina.
Those aren't pronunciation questions, they were changed because the Japanese people don't know how to pick western names.
And you just solved the entire frickin' thread's arguments, anon. The Japanese don't know how to pick frickin' western names.
that isn't the gotcha you think it is, engbonics gay
I honestly forgot he was even a character.
cat shit
kot thread?
>japanese version gets it right
>english version gets it wrong
how is this even possible
American exceptionalism is one hell of a drug
The proper alt-right MAGA way to pronounce it is Kate Siff
I always said "Cat Sith" kek, like Sith from Star Wars.
Same. It was Nioh that taught me the proper pronunciation. All these years I've been calling it "Key-t Sith".
Sorry, "Kay-t" not "Key-t".
When Reeve pilots Cait Sith; does he actually say everything Cait Sith says? If so, then that makes him very gay and cute and I want to hug him as he talks like Cait Sith.
Extremely, to the point where they actually turn invisible if you look at them with the sun behind them.
I laughed my fricking ass off reading through this thread. You fricking ket shi morons are the embodiment of "ackchuallyyyy" /reddit. Absolutely BTFO
