Realistic Characters with Westernized Look
i'd argue that the majority of the ingame models for the ff8 characters have more of a western flair compared to their cgi models and mannerisms which are very obviously asian the majority of the time.
the whole POINT is to make you THINK about it
they can be coy and say "its not canon lol"
however the literal easter eggs everywhere are NOT accidental
the story is about timeline compression and soulmates trying to find eachother no matter what
no matter how many times you fail you still never give up on the one you love
the story was simply to complexgrandiose for people to understand
so pretentious that it alienated most of the FANBASE

I was nine or ten when my older cousin lent me Final Fantasy VIII and a magazine with a walkthrough for it inside, I finished the game and you could say Rinoa was my first video game crush
Just got up to the part where Ultimecia kidnaps Seifer after he tries to kill the president, I can't believe there are actually people who don't think R=U, it's telegraphed as she walks into the portal then Rinoa runs out from the same side of the screen, as if Ultimecia passed through a changing room. Most obvious "twist" in history. Should I even bother continuing this game?

Make sure you bring Rinoa with when Squall goes back to Balamb Garden, and make sure you have Irvine pick out the correct song.
She's a spoiled rich kid and there's nothing special about her,
except for the fact that her teenage love antics was exactly what Squall needed to "undo" the mental damage he had experienced by being a product of an orphanage and child mercenary training camp, just in time for Squall to get his shit together and be capable of defeating Ultimecia.
The two characters simply do NOT connect until the end of disc 1, and it starts entirely one-sided on Rinoa's part.
I remember kinda enjoying the game back in the day, pc version even, but never finished it, the combat became a slog and drawing was a pain.
Still it does have a certain charm
