It's always been a problem with FF7 but now it's in 4k 60fps HD, and they are specifically writing the game like it's a sequel where they are taunting the player with maaaaybe it'll be a bit different
>in OG FF7 there's a brief comical scene with Hojo on the beach having a holiday with some hot girls fanning him >the party don't just kill him there because... it's supposed to just be a funny little scene and the devs didn't take it seriously
>in the FF7 remake Hojo is portrayed as wildly more evil than he ever was in the original, and because it's a remake and every small thing from the original has to be blown up into an excessively bombastic event they now have Hojo actually attack the party with robots >while doing this he also asks the girls if they'd like to give birth to the next generation of soldier (he is just flat out asking if he can use them for genetic experiments) >buuuuuuut the party don't kill him then and there because....?
What people probably didn't realize back then and are being confronted with now is that FF7 is written like a Sunday anime for children. All of the villains in it are literal mass murderers who have actually killed so many of their friends and family, or emotionally and physically tortured them, and yet they are treated like Team Rocket. It's easier to ignore that when the game is 240p and the characters share like 30 polys between them, but much harder to suspend disbelief for now.
>Oh no Tseng got stabbed 🙁 >Let's just ignore that he dropped that plate and killed tens of thousands it's fine lol this is a sad scene you're supposed to feel sad
It was always REALLY jarring how Reno and Rude are like goofy acquaintances to Cloud in Advent Children. Even though they killed thousands of people just 2 years prior. No way they should be redeemed that easily. Even though President Shinra gave the order they should have not gone through with it.
They missed so many chances to kill Rufus and the directors, it is really annoying. In the Yuffie DLC (Intermission), she and Sonon say that their reality is bleak, and they want to kill Scarlet, but when they defeat Scarlet, they just tie her hands and leave her alone.
The story is really restrained and toned down to sell to a teen audience, so the characters can't kill people unless it's a supernatural being or monster.
By the end of remake nobody will have died without coming back. And if they have to stay dead we're going to see them hanging out happily in the lifestream, basically alive
I'm actually surprised they showed Cloud killing in this game, usually Jap games like to keep their protags 'pure' so I thought Cloud would get stopped last minute.
Yes but Japs have that whole 'If you kill you're just as bad as they are' mentality. That's why none of the good guy in the Yakuza series kills anyone. I find it constraining and a breath of fresh air.
I know you're only joking but this post still has a hint of negativity about it, which simply won't do.
Activating dismissal procedures.
Enough is enough cloud
>"NOOOOO Cloud!!! You can't kill named characters."
In this scene he's just brutalizing regular grunts
if you kill him you'll be just as bad as him
If you kill him, the amount of murderers in the world doubles.
What if I kill 2 murderers and then jump into a volcano
Congratulations you just turned the volcano into a murderer
It's not about killing grunts, it's about the WAY he was killing grunts. HE WAS KILLING THEM IN AN EVIL WAY and that's NO good.

They also stopped Cloud from killing one of the Turks. As if the Turks did not deserve death after what they have done.
TOTAL ELENA DEATH

They stopped Cloud from killing Reno, because they knew the cancer would get him soon enough.
Wait, didn't the Turks sell him out to Hojo or something?
Classic case of ludonarrative dissonance

>If you kill this merciless genocidal psycopath, you will be just like him.
NO NEGATIVITY IN THE DOJO
Cloud going Sephiroth mode was sick
It's not about the killings, but cloud letting himself become bloodthirsty enough
So this is what the kids mean when incels lack "media literacy"

Clouds entire thing as a character is he’s really fricked up
