>Gen 1 had only Special stat >Worked out somewhat since you couldn't completely butcher the special stat every time since it was tied to special defense >Gen 2-3 >some mons absolutely neutered since they'd be given base stats that did not reflect their typing at all >mons who had decent special before was shafted by getting high special defense instead of special attack >Gen 4 >Mons finally having access to workable STABs again >brainlets somehow interpret this as a problem
Lots of Pokemon with "wrong" types were still able to thrive without using their STAB moves.
That said, I still like the split. I just see the value in both systems. /vp/ loves to exaggerate and pretend the games are totally unplayable because Gengar doesn't use Shadow Ball.
There was a glitch in HGSS that let you get Flare Blitz on Flareon using Smeargle. I remember there was a "There, Flareon HAS moves" meme pic about it but that was years ago. Just like the Phy/Spec split.
Keeping the physical/special split tied to move type could have worked, had they actually designed types accordingly. Instead you had weird stuff like all dark-types before gen 4 being physical attackers but dark being a special type despite it including moves like bite and crunch, which clearly should be physical.
>MUH SET VARIETY THOOOOO!!!
Gen 3 had a lot of set variety back then because quality control when the player base was inexperienced was virtually non-existant. Most “Variety” isn’t even Variety either. Shit like “Endeavor Smeargle” and “LvL 5 Endeavor Smeargle” are considered 2 seperate sets and both are listed despite being fricking awful.
The reason why you don’t see sets like “Defensive Gengar” which is just offensive Gengar with a different EV spread and will-o-wisp, is because the playerbase got better at the game and better at quality control.
This assumes the only reason Pokemon have types at all is for offensive purposes.
If that were the case why would moves have separate types from the Pokemon? They would have just made every move be the same type as the Pokemon that uses it.
>it's yet another thread that was blatantly made in bad faith for the purpose of inciting argumens
Sure, some buck is going to me a snarky reply to this post and twist my words against me, but I don't care.
The jannies need to stop being moronic c**ts and either delete genwarring bullshit like this or kill themselves. I know which one their families would prefer and it doesn't involve this website.
bait
>dude I heckin love STAB moves!
>build variety? coverage? who needs that?
>>dude I heckin love STAB moves!
I didn't know that Gyarados has a good physical Flying attack thanks to the split.
cope
Issue is that they didn't take the opportunity to redistribute Gens 1-3 mons stats and just fricking let most of them be shit mixed attackers.
Yeah this was the real problem

It's all so tiresome
>>some mons absolutely neutered
If something lacking STAB was enough to keep it down, it wasn't good to begin with.
>introducing the phys/spec split is an affront to the predetermined fates of previously existing mons
That's a new one

>I want Flareon to be completely unusable!
>dude my physical attacker that can learn Shadow Ball, Iron Tail and Hyper Beam is literally unusable!
Hyper Beam and Iron Tail are unusable moves, yes
Flareon didn't have moves in gen 4 either.
There was a glitch in HGSS that let you get Flare Blitz on Flareon using Smeargle. I remember there was a "There, Flareon HAS moves" meme pic about it but that was years ago. Just like the Phy/Spec split.
flareon was never usable, but it was an eeveeBlack person, so no one of importance cares
>it was an eeveeBlack person, so no one of importance cares

There hasn't been an /rheg/ to shill in all year, so I'll take this opportunity to post now.
im not clicking that

Dark was the inverse of Ghost. Bite and Crunch were still Normal-type during this period.
Bite was only normal in gen 1 when dark didn't exist.
It was also normal in the 1997 demo. In that one, Dark was a complete inverse of Ghost. Right down to Normal being super effective against it.
Bite was only Normal in Gen I and Crunch never was. The frick are you talking about?
>improving the gameplay and giving you the option to use more strategies is...le bad!
every game before gen5 is unplayable because of the combination of no physical special split and shitty movesetes
you are literally playing the games wrong
/vp/ the totalitarian contrarians
>muh flareon
>muh gengar
Every time.
>nooooo! you can't use an example more than once that doesn't count!
When like 400 pokemon were affected by the split it's a bit moronic to only have 2 examples that you use over and over again.
There wasn't 400 Pokemon pre-split, even counting NFEs.
>like
Learn to read, moron.
It's not even close to 400.
What would you rather be brought up instead? Gyarados? Tyranitar? Azumarill?
>386 isn't close to 400
Not even reading anything else from you.
Thank God I don't care about any of this shit and just pick the coolest looking moves.
>kills the fun in your series
as if battling was ever the fun part of this series
>makes my favorite Pokémon actually usable
How about you frick yourself.
>I'm terrible at the game and don't understand how it works so that means the pokemon wasn't usable before
Nah, you’re just too moronic to keep up with two extra stats.
>said the moron who cries about needing the feature that encourages only using one stat
But enough about pre-split encouraging you to use hard Physical and hard Special walls like Skarm and Blissey.
You're just looking for any reason to dismiss a conflicting argument.
>saying random pokemon names is an argument
>saying random pokemon names invalidates an argument
Stay mad
>b***h replying
It's very clear who's the mad one here kek
Yeah, it’s you. Stay mad.
No more b***h replying? You're getting brave 🙂
Stay mad.

Abloo bloo my Alakazam can't use Fire Punch any more
Go frick yourself
Another day another physical/special split thread
>Play RPG.
>Recruit an earth mage.
>All the earth spells in the game actually scale off their garbage Strength stat.
sounds moronic
