Kingdom Come Deliverance 2

>coming in 2024

>all of the npcs are unique in KCD2, with their own daily life, their own bed etc. there are no NPCs who just spawn into the world only to walk around in circles with a bucket of water or whatever. every NPC has a fixed and unique inventory. whatever you steal from these inventories is actually gone and will not respawn in their inventory

>combat is pretty much the same as in KCD1 but some weapon types like axe or mace have less available directions now in the combat rose. so the weapon type specifies how complex the attack pattern is going to be. you can do a lot of movement with a one handed sword but a mace or axe is more about raw damage and power which is why those have a less complex combat rose

>they have more weapon experts for KCD 2, which means all of the KCD 1 weapon moves were reviewed again to make sure that the moves actually make sense

>saviour schnaps is in KCD 2 but it is easier and cheaper to get than in KCD 1

>NPCs can react to way more things now, for example if you drop a hat from your inventory while you are in a town, NPCs can decide to pick it up and wear it. also all of the corpse found, bandit found etc scenarios are more complex now and citizens and guards are going to react more realistic

>theres a full weaponsmith crafting mechanic in the game that is as complex and immersive as the (KCD 1) alchemy mechanic

    >theres a full weaponsmith crafting mechanic in the game that is as complex and immersive as the (KCD 1) alchemy mechanic
    >there are more ways to shape Henry in KCD 2, for example more complex dialogue options with friendly, evil, lie answer choices. also Henry (the player) has to choose between some very unpleasant series of events within the story and its up to the player to decide whats the best option within a pool of horrible options. Tom McKay recorded more than 450 hours of content
    >KCD 2 has new drinking and fun songs
    >you can pet the dogs, cats and the horses
    >for scale comparison: KCD 1 Rattay is like one street in
    KCD 2 Kuttenberg
    >Henry can not swim in KCD 2

        >You should be able to play second game without the knowledge of the first one
I mean not much happened in the first game you could easily summarize it.
        >Everything with Wenceslaus and Sigismund
        >Henry is a poorgay blacksmith apprentice who's mom and dad get killed
        >Loses the sword he and his dad made for their lord Radzig
        >Enters the service of another noble to avenge his parents and get the sword back, befriends another called Hans Capon
        >Finds the guy with the sword and is captured briefly, learns his dad is actually Radzig
        >Participates in a siege, guy with sword escapes
        >Ending has the nobles decide to help Wenceslaus, Henry and Hans ride out to see if they can get one of Sigismund's allies to turn on him
Probably wrong on some details but I haven't touched the game since launch, never tried the DLCs because they seemed pretty short or the hardcore mode. Worth replaying with the DLCs and hardcore?

        >"As mentioned already, Henry is embarking on a journey from the countryside and local quarrels to a relatively cosmopolitan city that is besieged and occupied by the invading king.
        >Naturally, in a place like this, people can expect a wide range of ethnicities and different characters that Henry will meet on his journey."

He's equivalent to an esquire or mant at arms (not knight) and bastard nobility, not "just a blacksmith"

Historical accuracy applies to portraying social norms, not the hero's personal story. If the settting surrounding the story featured lots of peasants becoming nobility independent of the protagonist it would be historically innacurate, but that doesnt happen.

I don’t understand what people like you want. It’s supposed to be an immersive/realistic depiction of 14 century combat. You’re not going to be doing backflips and slaying 6 people with magic fireballs and Katanas with flaming embers in 1 motion. KCD combat is nowhere near perfect because of master strike spamming but if they manage to tweak it a bit (which it sounds like they are doing) it’ll be great.

How can you not understand the combat bro? Did you continue training with captain bernard? He teaches you everything. You have to go back to him and not just that one time early when you first get to rattay,

        >just take 3 weeks of HEMA bro!
I'm playing escapist fantasies. Why should I have to grind out swordplay? It's literally not fun to fight in KC:D and the only incentive to train in combat is so you can skip it.

Oh no don't get me wrong. HEMA is insanely based but only as a structure to learn martial discipline and engage in physical fitness. The elements of technique and theory as they've attempted to apply them to the combat in KC:D just feel limiting and boring.

KC:D basically handcuffs you and makes combat unresponsive and stiff in ways that force you to sort of LARP at HEMA. What I think it should have is something FUN and then if they want HEMA to matter, knowledge of HEMA principles and applying them would be something you work into the game balance in subtle ways.

Because when you ask them what their favorite similar game is, they say Arkham Asylum (spam X 20 times to kill 10 people around you https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y80jiJvr8HA&t=3m46s ) or W3/DS (combat roll spam). There is a reason the meme video of a raccoon rolling around in the grass https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KkICErsTKEU has a ton of "boss POV" comments. This game does something different (at least attempts to). So the reaction is part cultural defensiveness, part snobbery.
I detest people who play Moralesslop, DS/DD or any other asiatic-fantasy games (where they rip off European history and bastardize it for the muttoid WWE-poisoned audience). When you have fricking moronic midwestern college football bros https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cVY_H6jhWZU and Twitch camprostitutes taking pride in enjoying your favorite game (or a TV show, for that matter, like what happened with GoT/Witcher/RoP), you know it panders to the lowest common denominator normies.
There are very few truly European games that exude the spirit of this part of the world, and of course people get angry when people with money to spend want to change it to their liking (the same way weebs get angry when journos raise the issue of "diversity/pedophilia in anime").

bronze was used for cannons earlier on specifically because it could be moulded into shape

                >it's only later that iron cannons became standard
there were iron or even steel guns back then but they had to be hammered around rod in to shape the same way you would make a tall glass out of iron. They were very expensive though and reserved for nobility, just like custom swords. But otherwise yeah, brass or bronze was used for cannons due to it being relatively easy to cast.

wouldnt every gun look different because mass production wasnt really a thing yet until the industrial revolution, unless a blacksmith had one specific mould he used over and over

                >unless a blacksmith had one specific mould he used over and over
molds for brass weren't that long lasting back then. High temp steel casting wasn't perfected back then and tungsten wasn't a thing yet, they used the same the type of molds that where meant to make stuff like candle holders but they broke down pretty quick and had to be re-made often; it's why most weapons were still hand forged for strength.

That being said most guns were similar due the nature of the requirements, there is only so many ways to make a hollow cylinder and stuff like decorations just make the process needlessly complicated. Most guilds would have a sample size for the iron shot so while there was variation it wasn't as vast as one would think. Guns only started getting really varied once they became complicated enough for design differences to make a impact on performance.

That guy's clearly just trolling but he's right in a way. The game takes place during the first half of the 15th century, and while Gunpowder weapons did exist in Europe at the time they were exceedingly rare and expensive as well as crude and unreliable. You would not see Cannons being fielded in Bohemian armies regularly until after the Hussite wars, which is roughly 30 years after the timeframe of the first game and likely before the second game as well.

It depends on how widespread they actually are in the game, but outside of the major powers at the time it would be the medieval equivalent of a modern naval vessel operating with railguns and lasers. It's technologically feasible on paper, but not really viable logistically or tactically in practice.

a crossbow still needs a lot of practice. I have a hunting crossbow for buck and I had to practice quite a bit to get good enough to make a clean shot at 50 yards, it's like firing 22lr but with worse drops and wind deflections. And that's with a modern precision crossbow with a scope, uniform material construction, and near perfectly straight aircraft grade aluminum bolts. A carved wooden crossbow from a era before precision machining would be a lot hard to get a good shot with.

I have an older version of picrel and it has a draw weight of 180lb, ancient crossbows didn't have that kind of power due to material tech not being there yet making straight shots that much harder. There is a reason bows and arrows still saw active military use until revolvers and repeaters were invented.

berg is a common word for town in Slavic and Germanic tongues, I'm aware. As for them not being israelites that's hard to confirm since this was the same era where the inquisition (the eastern inquisition is less famous than the Spanish one but was actually a lot more brutal) was in full force and a lot of israelites pretended to be Christian to avoid getting killed. Banking in eastern Europe at the time as FULL of converso's

Idk if it's any different with more powerful at single threading shintel CPUs, but with a 5800X3D I still get drops to the low 40s sometimes in Rattay, KCD1 is absolute garbage in the optimization aspect.
I sure do hope they at least take some advantage of multi-threading in KCD2...

Wtf is up with your pc to get that kind of drops? On my old shitty ryzen 5 5500 I was getting 100 fps in Rattay once everything was loaded with drops to 60-70 in the tournament area.

No fricking idea, with a 3070 at high settings it usually overs at around 100s, once I get to Rattay it lowers to around 70 and occasionally it has sudden dips to the 50s.
Although I do wonder if your memory isn't playing tricks on you anon, another anon above said that with a 7800X3D he gets dips to the 50-60s in Rattay, so my experience with the 5800 seems to match proportionaly.

Different parts of Rattay had different levels of drops for me. The area with the armor show had the worst but once I got to the northern gate it would pop back up to around 110 and once I was out of town near the inn it would be a solid 120 capped.
The most jarring thing was the massive fluctuations ridding though town. Riding from the southern gate to the northern fate I would get two huge drops until a large chunk of NPC were out of sight.

Hard pill to swollow, but the combat was complete trash and it had nothing to do with 'being hard'. Because it wasn't. It didn't know if it wanted to be skill based or stat based so it awkwardly tried to do both and thus failed at doing either, the camera was horrible, the controls were at best 'a bit jank' and the games best combat moments came in one v one as the controls were clearly designed for, yet the game throws gangs at you.

Not only that but the game encourages you to run away at some points and there’s multiple ways of dispatching groups of enemies without running towards them (arrows, stealth, poisoning, etc.)

The fact you're outnumbered should be reason enough to run away, not because you're dealing with shitty controls

It's ok, like a 6/10. I'll echo the others ITT and say the combat is terrible, but the vistas *can* be pretty. It's CryEngine so it'll run like dogshit even if you have a supercomputer. I honestly found Henry to be a bit unlikeable, but he was a whiny b***h for 99% of the game. The sequel appears to have fixed that, he looks like a proper man now. The music sucks, but staying on the topic of sound the voice acting is excellent. Side content is a bore - it's mostly fetch quests and menial tasks, you won't be dungeon diving or doing anything cool. It's extremely realistic, so you can forgot magic, goblins, skeletons, etc.

            >I have to use the optimized graphics mod to make the game stutter less and it STILL feels very stuttery in rattay despite the 60+ fps, especially when i move the camera and in the tournament area
thats actually a CPU not a GPU problem. Almost all the NPC scripting is run off a single thread so when there are a ton of heavily scripted NPC's in the loaded area the game start to lag due to not being able to switch between them fast enough.
I have a 3080 and played the game @1080p and in Rattay I am sitting at around 45% utilization but my frame-rate drops from 120fps down to 50 to 65fps even on my 7800x3D

The whole game is very poorly optimized, the studio outright admitted it and said that because it was their first game and first time using the engine they didn't know to to cull and distribute resources which lead to them making mistakes early on in development that would require at total rework to fix and they just didn't have the time or the money given the scope of the game.

I wish they kept the bug where you could attack outside of the lock on system so you can hit multiple enemies at once or prevent them from blocking.
It's almost impossible to fight multiple enemies with melee if you're ganged up on, even if you're a fully armored knight against regular bandits when they have you surrounded, unless you "cheat" and use bow to headshot them.

It really, really isn't. One of the most fun times I had with this game was clearing out that entire bandit army you're meant to spy on, by killing every single one of them as they came at me.

You need to back up, block if you're using a shield, and pick your moments.

it was fine 1 on 1 but any group fights were terrible since the AI would just have the other NPC maneuver behind you and backstab you to death while the game forces you to fight the guy in front with no way to cover your back

        Anonymous

But that’s exactly what would happen in real life. I countered this by backing away as far as I could before I even ended up in that situation and shot arrows. You can also bait enemies away from their groups by doing this.

          Anonymous

          >But that’s exactly what would happen in real life.
part of knight training was various blocks and tactics on how to deal with that, none of which are in game for Henry. Also, the way combat is setup it's designed to nat allow you to manuver in a way that keeps all eneies in your line of sight to attack in way where you quickly switch between targets.

Cut one guy, take a swing at another, push or kick guy 2 in to guy 3; fricking dogs understand this concept.
A basic thing that's taught in all one on multiple group combat is to force the group to attack you from a set angle then redirect their attacks in to each-other. The goal is to control the flow of battle in a way where you can use your enemies strikes against one another or get some distance between you and them where you can get all but one out of range.
The games combat system FORCES you to engage one on one without any ability to direct battle, worse yet the camera auto engages targets even when you are trying to run away so you can't run straight until you are certain distance away

I stand corrected. Thanks for the detailed post anon. There are a number of ways that the combat could be improved so we just have to hope that they follow through and listened to feedback. Are there any games out there that are this detailed when it comes to realistic combat?

              >There are a number of ways that the combat could be improved so we just have to hope that they follow through and listened to feedback.
yeah, that or you have Hans back you up in a fight.
All the tactics I listed were intended as a last resort, the most effective method knights were taught was to just have a buddy go with you so you can stand back to back with him.

              >Are there any games out there that are this detailed when it comes to realistic combat?
the Nioh games get close but are very fantastical in terms of what the player can do even if you disregard the magic powers. The problem is that games want the player to feel like an army of one when in reality when faced with multiple enemies the rule is "get way if you can" or "fight only enough to run away". IRL combat strategy is, using group tactics to overwhelm a target one at a time, picking off a target at distance, or crush a target with overwhelming force.
The most realistic thing Henry could do is call for backup then set up a trap or choke point where a guy acts as bait while archers pick off the attackers chasing him. Other than that, poisoning food, sabotaging equipment at night, and using a bow to pick off a guy or two before the group can enguage is the most realistic thing about medieval combat.

The whole one man against all odds bit is the last thing any proper military wants a soldier to do, real battle is a team sport... but that's not much fun for a game.

That forced lock on really annoyed me. I get that I'm not supposed to be a super hero even when I'm wearing extremely expensive armor and swinging a likewise fancy sword. I just felt like I wasn't able to actually express any player skill in the combat because I was fighting the system itself instead of the enemies. My camera just whipping around of its own accord when I'm trying to back up or control the way the enemies were coming at me was the most artificial difficulty shit I've experienced in a long time.
The combos were satisfying to pull off, but they felt really inconsistent. Sometimes a combo would work, sometimes you'd constantly get interrupted regardless of Henry's skill level or how often you mixed up the combos

Ill never forget the mission failed: you tamed the wrong horse of rdr 2 KEK or one ally npc randomly dying if you get out of the focused mission zone

to be fair that's not a bad thing, the reason missions are controlled so heavily is because there are lots of action set pieces that would not be possible if the player could approach a fight any way they wanted.
Sure, you get more freedom but you also can't have cool sequences like firefights on a moving train

Action set pieces can be cool if used sparingly but I remember rdr2 being mostly set pieces when it came to main missions. The real meat and potatoes of the game was exploration and finding stuff on your own. I remember being able to set up obstacles in the original gta trilogy before a mission began and it actually working exactly as I plotted it out was incredibly satisfying….i wish rdr2 had stuff like that.

imo, by far the most compelling thing about kcd was the sense of scale, they basically took a very small area, but didn't miniaturize skalice or rattay all that much. as a european, walking up to those churches, seeing those fields, it was resonant and immersive in a a completely unique way.
but kuttenberg has a population 20 times skalitz, and probably about proportionally the same ratio in the middle ages. so will they sacrifice that sense of real scale just to get a city in the game, or will the city be ridiculously big by rpg standards?
While this isn't conventionally approved by most gaymers, I'd much rather they filled with empty space than compress the city. honestly I wish a big rpg had the balls to take place in only one city and its immediate outskirts, but make it feel properly sized(cp2077 doesn't count, night city would be way bigger irl, tokyo for example is enormous)

I'd be considered woke by the standards of Ganker and I was still embarrassed by the culture war controversy surrounding the first game. I can't stand the weirdos who refuse to understand that contact between distant cultures was sporadic and small for most of human history, so an African in rural Bohemia makes as much sense as putting a Chinese sailor in a story about precolumbian Mexico.

      Anonymous

I mean I'm pretty 'woke', most people understand it, it's just a matter of being okay with historical inaccuracies for the sake of storytelling. I personally wouldn't go 'how dare you include a brown in your historical game', there could be justifications - there was the depictions of that one saint as black for a long time, arthurian myth featured a dark skinned knight who was the descendent of a 'moorish princess' and was described as having coal black skin and was depicted as a heroic noble figure, and those stories are like 800 years old. But I also don't have a problem with vavra's approach. I mean Pentiment is a recent medieval game headed by actual uber woke communist Josh Sawyer and the only brown people are a roma guy and a person from the ethiopian orthodox church who's visiting the church the game is set in. History is full of travelers and they can make an interesting story, but a simple 'there are poc in every town in this medieval setting' does nothing for me. I can't understand complaining about it for fantasy settings though

My issue is also that the notion of diversity some people push is so blatantly centered on modern-day American society. Medieval society was diverse because there was no notion of the modern day nation state, so you would often have regions like Switzerland or Transylvania that were a cultural and linguistic melting pot, yet would get dismissed as "all white people" through a modern western lens.
I wouldn't lose my shit if a game trying for medieval historical accuracy would have Turks or a rare Ethiopian on a pilgrimage, but I'm autistic about history and I appreciate accurate depictions of the middle ages, a period of history that's so often misrepresented in popular media.
If someone made a historical RPG about Tenochtitlan or the Mali Empire I would also like the depictions to be relatively accurate, I think we can learn more from the past by looking at what it actually was like, rather than trying to project all of our modern morality back into it.

          >historical RPG about Tenochtitlan
          >Good ending where you get sacrificed because Mesoamerican warriors unironically considered this the most honorable way to die.
          >Last thing you see before credits roll is the priest holding your still-beating heart.

Yeah I get that. I would love more historical stuff that centres on places outside of europe as well, I remember hearing about a game about playing a native american in the 1600s and I got excited but then I found out it was just survival game slop and I got sad.

A swiss village from one valley over even in the modern day exhibits more cultural, social and linguistic difference than a town in essex UK vs a town in rural tennessee, and thats just the german speaking parts considered

    >the game that launched in a pisspoor state barely working with missing features still not added to the game, dogshit performance and so many bugs it could put Bethesda to shame is again making a game thats overly ambitious and promises the moon

Back in my day we accepted that Eastern European games would always be buggy messes with ambitions far surpassing their budgets. We didn't like the bugs but we were willing to accept their existence so long as the devs kept being passionate. Ganker is a pro-Eurojank board.

        Anonymous

Ye the problem is EuroJank works in small scale only
Thats why Gothic 1 and 2 is better than 3 and why Witcher 2 is better than 3 or 1
Only time that Western scale mixed well with eastern devs was Witcher 3 and that games is only good for normie standards

    Okay I saw the trailer.

I wanna ask tho... Did they really spend 6 years...? I remember how they were bought by some investment group, and there was no clear tell if they're making KCD 2 until now out of nowhere they show a well worked on game? Even though they look like assets from KCD1, idk. It feels too good to be true.

We'll see, they've stated that the game will be much larger and they've also spent a large amount of time modifying cry engine in order for performance to not shit itself in the much larger cities

They are honestly masochists for sticking wtih cryengine. I heard its such a cumbersome engine for anything but FPS. I hope now that they have more experience it will be a smooth launchh.

I mean these kinds of games took massive undertaking, from open-world to the AI stuff even when you have solid foundation from the first game already, I can understand the long interval.

After the first game released they spent about a year on the DLC and around 2019 or 2020 they began working on the sequel.

Alright I'm going to buy the Royal Edition of the first game on PS5 for 4 Euros as it's on sale. What am I in for? Specifically on console? And specifically how it feels on PS5 and not PS4. Yes, I know there's no PS5 version, but it should still play better on PS5.

Also worth mentioning that the game's DLC pack costs 5 Euros, but if you buy the edition with the game + DLC it's 4 Euros. What the frick?

he also looks too soft and clean shaven. people spent much more time under the sun back then, and were darker and more leathery. shaving was also not easily accessible. his hairstyle is also too tidy. lastly, he's too tall and has too much fat on his face. there wasn't much nutrition to go around back then, and the average height for men was 5 inches.
