The only good thing about it is the music, but then thats every Jrpg ever.
Dogshit everything, good music
FFXII exists
You mean Vagrant Story 2?
Do not denigrate Vagrant Story so.
I love this game, but 12 is significantly more cohesive and just better all around.
I think 12’s narrative theme is the weakest in the series. It’s not that it’s bad, but that it’s too heavy handed on one side. The game tries to balance between doing one’s duty and doing the right thing. Ashe’s plight tells her she should do her duty and side with the occurians to take back her land and rule, but the right thing would be to overthrow their grasp on humanity and rewrite history. Gabranth also suffers the same dilemma, as does Vayne. But of those three, only Ashe chooses to do the right thing and the other two suffers for it. And Ashe faces no consequences as she becomes Princess and her land restored. In reality, there are consequences to not doing one’s duty but she faces none and the game is pretty much beating it into you that one should forsake one’s duty to do the right thing, since only good will happen and if you fulfill your duty, only bad will happen. For a game with such compelling dialogue compared to what we’ve seen so far, the actual narrative theme is rather heavy handed and thus, the entire tale suffers as a result.
>the actual narrative theme is rather heavy handed
The exoteric plot? Of course it is, because its real narrative is just as subtle as all the other Final Fantasies.
I felt like 13 did a good job with this narrative themes.
VIII wasn't even the best in its generation.
it was hated by all, but it's actually good
Thats because the original FF7 was most people's first FF at the time, and they were all super pissed when FF8 wasn't a direct sequel.
it's very good
sex with quistis

Level scaling. Next question.
I only need one hp
This is truly the answer. The Draw/Junction system was goofy as hell but I really loved it as an alternative. But not slotting Enc-None most of the time just makes the game a slog later on. I really wish Square would try something as different as Junction again. Maybe in Vagrant Story 2 or something.
PS1 trilogy is probably my favorite set in the series. i love how uncanny they are as the devs were getting used to 3d
it is, though
That's not VI
I think the romance came out of left field. I can understand why Rinoa like squall. She’s clearly attracted to leadership figures, but why was Squall so into her? My best guess is he still feels like they are his “sibling” from the orphanage so it would always feels kind of incestous of him to develop feelings for Quistis or Selphie so he just kind of never did.
In a good jrpg, exp number makes level number go up. Level number goes up and you get stronger. That feels great.
in ff8, Level number goes up, but you don't get much stronger. FF8 is not a jrpg. It's some kind of bullshit item management sim.
and that's kino
xv is better
>total nonsensical story
>moronic battle system
>RANDOM RULE
after the generation defining kino of ff7 it's an offensively strange game. amazing music though and i still do like it.
It absolutely represents a peak era. The game itself isn't all that great (drawing magic, nonsense story, nothing characters, only one minigame)
I actually liked 8 a lot
But the junction and draw system is the most moronic thing I've seen in a game. What were they thinking?
It's crazy how 7, 8 and 9 came out within 4 years of eachother.
