I never finished the first one on PS4. I wonder how dead it is at this point given the current-gen Director's Cut versions, given the asynchronous multiplayer that allowed you to get shit built more easily, especially with regards to the fricking roads.
It's not dead at all. I just started replaying it, it feels just as active as it did on launch.
I think DS has some behind-the-scenes stuff going on with the online to give the illusion that it's always going to be active.
I'm find with behind-the-scenes illusions, or playing back old recorded actions of other players. I don't think it was ever announced if there was any crossplatform shit behind-the-scenes, since the PS4 version lets you view the profiles of any other players recorded doing shit on your game.

Yeah. They're basically down under, sailing through the place where Sam ends up in every time he gets Stranded from being dragged by the souls of the dead, they're using a ship to traverse through the Stranding somehow to be able to travel safely, hence the color blue, since it's not on the rainbow anymore, hence the lack of every single other color, it's literally just black, white and blue. Inorganic matter of course, retains color normally.

That's the point. Thematicism is heavy on Death Stranding 1 & 2. Interesting fact about the color blue, the lower and lower you go down underwater, any body of water, the less color red you will see, due to lack of infrared rays. Kind of interesting, since Higgs' main color scheme on his equipment looks very reddish in color, either in relation to rust, or something else related to life, as in blood red. It's all so subtle, but we'll find out more next year.

The Death Stranding is a phenomena that kills people. When you die, you go to the beach. It's discovered that the beach isn't just for dead people, but people who are yet born. Sam is a zero patient. He can cross the borders between our living world, and the beach. He goes to the beach often to bring things back, or when he dies. Through Sam, many miracles are possible—like Jesus. The whole point of the story is discovering the Death Stranding through heuristic and analytical study and finding out how it connects human beings to the Extinction Event called Death.
The ship they're on is probably using some tech to travel from Beach to Beach, enabling the bluish glow.

When I first encountered them I felt they were a nice addition to the game's microcosm, a tiny moment that made locations feel a bit more alive. Yes, Sam is the last of his kind trying to connect most of Mexico, but the guy saying porters aren't needed anymore is also pretty nefarious and evil sounding.
There will probably be MULES and live soldiers on the field to make things feel even lonelier, the bots are most likely there to make you feel smart or capable; then the game hits you with actual A.I.

They do move but for the most part they're fixed. When it rains in an area they will shuffle along a bit but won't move a significant distance at all. That's the point of the Weather Station existing. You'll mainly see them move a few feet from where they typically are and that tends to trip you up like when taking that corner to or from Central Knot City.
Now all I really need is for the boss fights to actually LIVE UP to the crazy cinematics and action going on and the character designs.
DS1 did not have good boss fights.
DS2 better have some fricking amazing ones.
Hopefully this game won't just be terrain + copy-pasted building to sell shit in everywhere, with the odd interesting boss battle with clunky combat every 5hrs.
DS1 was a pretty game, but outside of character models it didn't have that much going on for unique assets, which I guess explains its quick turnaround relative to other AAA.
Kojima is actually good at making games, Death Stranding was fun when it was trying to be one, but as far back as MGS he has been interrupting gameplay with meaningless chatter and setpiece action. I'm still mad that MGS1 doesn't have enough actual stealth when that's the best part of the game.
Games of the decade are Darks Souls 1/BB and Death Stranding 1. So glad I got over my jaded views and actually played Death Stranding instead of hating on it for being a walking sim. And boy did I do that for months.
Kojima has never made a bad game and is the ONLY developer that has left his original game studio and hyped a new game based on his previous work and actually succeeded

I'd say don't fricking do that to yourself and play the game. Also the story is not exactly the strongest suit of the game, it's the relationship it has with the gameplay and its gimmicks. It's good, but not great. What makes it interesting is how it meshes with the gameplay and every weird shit kind of has an explanation. Play the game, anon. Having said that, there's plenty of YouTubers with their explanations. If you do play though, the beginning is a bit of slog, this is almost an unanimous opinion, so force yourself (in case) to Chapter 3. From there, if you don't like it, you can come back and call Kojima a hack like we do every now and then.
Agreed. If you think you like any kojimbo games at all, give it a sht. The original Death Stranding Director's Cut on PC is by far the best version and has the most content as well as other players (for the asymmetric co-op functions). I wouldn't spoil yourself or just watch something, as its really well crafted and is better to be experienced. Even aside from the themes or the big story beats, the gameplay is a unique hybrid of delivery , combat, planning your route, dealing with encumbrance and balance ( walking is actually a mechanic here - you have to balance as to not fall over because you have tons of heavy packages stacked on your back and you're trying to run down a step incline etc) and much more - its capable of both being chill exploration vibes along well planned path at times, while also having hectic dangers, discovery investigating a new area or route and a frickload of other stuff. Its not for everyone as a game, but if you are intrigued by the kojima weirdness and are open to the mechanics, its well worth it. Hell, its not even very expenive if you pick it up on sale.
I'd to that the following: it's not a walking simulator. That was the biggest lie or perhaps misconception the game received (playing for the first time right now). You can go to a lot of places with a bike or just a floating carrier or even your cargo truck. If you are tired of walking/running, the game also offers you a ziplink that you can plant and connect to others ziplink to basically give you a means of fast travel. Also, there's also fast travel (as in teleportation) in the game (in your private room which is like a safe house), but you can't do it with cargo, so it just a nice to have if you want to get something done in a region, explore, farm or whatever.
I could say the same about the combat. It's not wrong to say the game doesn't put much emphasis in it, but it's still there. There's guns too, assault rifles, handguns, and they can be used in human targets through a non-lethal factor.
I hope this game can tell more story through a in game podcast or something while you are walking around, it would work wonders as a story telling tool

Yeah. They're basically down under, sailing through the place where Sam ends up in every time he gets Stranded from being dragged by the souls of the dead, they're using a ship to traverse through the Stranding somehow to be able to travel safely, hence the color blue, since it's not on the rainbow anymore, hence the lack of every single other color, it's literally just black, white and blue. Inorganic matter of course, retains color normally.

That's the point. Thematicism is heavy on Death Stranding 1 & 2. Interesting fact about the color blue, the lower and lower you go down underwater, any body of water, the less color red you will see, due to lack of infrared rays. Kind of interesting, since Higgs' main color scheme on his equipment looks very reddish in color, either in relation to rust, or something else related to life, as in blood red. It's all so subtle, but we'll find out more next year.

He can cross the borders between our living world, and the beach. He goes to the beach often to bring things back, or when he dies. Through Sam, many miracles are possible—like Jesus. The whole point of the story is discovering the Death Stranding through heuristic and analytical study and finding out how it connects human beings to the Extinction Event called Death.
The ship they're on is probably using some tech to travel from Beach to Beach, enabling the bluish glow.

They do move but for the most part they're fixed. When it rains in an area they will shuffle along a bit but won't move a significant distance at all. That's the point of the Weather Station existing. You'll mainly see them move a few feet from where they typically are and that tends to trip you up like when taking that corner to or from Central Knot City.

DS1 was a pretty game, but outside of character models it didn't have that much going on for unique assets, which I guess explains its quick turnaround relative to other AAA.
Kojima is actually good at making games, Death Stranding was fun when it was trying to be one, but as far back as MGS he has been interrupting gameplay with meaningless chatter and setpiece action. I'm still mad that MGS1 doesn't have enough actual stealth when that's the best part of the game.

I think MGS4 is half bad half good.
I only played it once though, but the game drops off a cliff after act 2 imo.
Act 1 and 2 are really fun, then act 3 is the low point of the entire franchise, then act 4 is kinda neat and then act 5 seems to be going back to act 1 and 2 kino but it lasts for literally 5 minutes in a super small area before it becomes a cutscene and boss rush, which was very disappointing.

I'd say don't fricking do that to yourself and play the game. Also the story is not exactly the strongest suit of the game, it's the relationship it has with the gameplay and its gimmicks. It's good, but not great. What makes it interesting is how it meshes with the gameplay and every weird shit kind of has an explanation. Play the game, anon. Having said that, there's plenty of YouTubers with their explanations. If you do play though, the beginning is a bit of slog, this is almost an unanimous opinion, so force yourself (in case) to Chapter 3. From there, if you don't like it, you can come back and call Kojima a hack like we do every now and then.
Agreed. If you think you like any kojimbo games at all, give it a sht. The original Death Stranding Director's Cut on PC is by far the best version and has the most content as well as other players (for the asymmetric co-op functions). I wouldn't spoil yourself or just watch something, as its really well crafted and is better to be experienced. Even aside from the themes or the big story beats, the gameplay is a unique hybrid of delivery , combat, planning your route, dealing with encumbrance and balance ( walking is actually a mechanic here - you have to balance as to not fall over because you have tons of heavy packages stacked on your back and you're trying to run down a step incline etc) and much more - its capable of both being chill exploration vibes along well planned path at times, while also having hectic dangers, discovery investigating a new area or route and a frickload of other stuff. Its not for everyone as a game, but if you are intrigued by the kojima weirdness and are open to the mechanics, its well worth it. Hell, its not even very expenive if you pick it up on sale.
I'd to that the following: it's not a walking simulator. That was the biggest lie or perhaps misconception the game received (playing for the first time right now). You can go to a lot of places with a bike or just a floating carrier or even your cargo truck. If you are tired of walking/running, the game also offers you a ziplink that you can plant and connect to others ziplink to basically give you a means of fast travel. Also, there's also fast travel (as in teleportation) in the game (in your private room which is like a safe house), but you can't do it with cargo, so it just a nice to have if you want to get something done in a region, explore, farm or whatever.
I could say the same about the combat. It's not wrong to say the game doesn't put much emphasis in it, but it's still there. There's guns too, assault rifles, handguns, and they can be used in human targets through a non-lethal factor.
I hope this game can tell more story through a in game podcast or something while you are walking around, it would work wonders as a story telling tool

The silence of Death Stranding's nature is comforting because your thoughts are free to travel wherever, as soon as a voice arrives, you realize you're on some social level that requires identity and loneliness becomes apparent.
