Is it better than the original game? Seems soulless
Not him, but if I recall correctly, it technically is - it adds an extra final boss that had no counterpart in the Jetsons version. I forgot what all the differences are, but I think the bike section was also made into an optional stage. It's a very weird alternate reality version. I think the original makes more sense, like for example that space chute obstacle is still inexplicably in the Buster version.
Still one of the best classic cartoon network-core.
its kinda weird how this one is the original version while the japanese one is the localization since its usually the other way around. i still think the japanese version is cooler though.
I really love the music in the first level.
Classic Hanna Barbera stuff basically has zero cultural penetration nowadays right? Back in the 90s you could see collections of old shorts on TV as well as episodes of the Flintstones and Jetsons etc. Outside of Scooby Doo I guess, when was the last time any of these shows had some sort of update? That WWE crossover shit?
Scooby-Doo will never be irrelevant, it still has shows and had a CGI movie not too long ago. There's also Velma but we don't talk about that.
The rest of ths HB line had Jellystone, which was pretty alright as far as cartoons go.
tom and jerry counts
adult swim did the weird stuff with space goast and harvey birdman
Those shows were mega based. I remember the original Space Ghost Coast to Coast from the 90's, but I'm not sure if it was just tamer or the jokes flew over my child self's head, but whatever the case, I remember not finding it that funny, but the AS relaunch always had me in stitches.
>adult swim did the weird stuff with space goast and harvey birdman
ackshually, Space Ghost CtC predates adult swim by a lot of years.
It was, I think, the very first cartoon network original show. I remember watching it as early as 1993 or 1994.
Yup. Space Ghost was like a test run for Adult Swim. Space Ghost did the best interviews of all the hottest 90’s stars.
I remember the Ramones episode pretty vividly.
>was like a test run for Adult Swim
yeah kinda although I doubt the idea of adult swim was even there that early. Maybe it was, I dunno, but it was a lot of years until adult swim happened. After CtC came Moxy (I still remember they were hyping Moxy's show and in the end it didn't last. I remember one of the teasers for Moxy, before even revealing the character, was something like "In 1994, everyone will become dogs", and my kid brain thought that, maybe, actually, we were all going to turn into dogs in 1994. Fun times.
Mike Lazzo created Space Ghost, so he was definitely testing the waters to see how the 18-35 crowd would react to adult animation. As you probably know he is the creator of Adult Swim and Toonami.
credit to Mike Lazzo. he renewed World Peace, and the people mad about it had to go WAY above his head at WB in order to put enough pressure on him to kill it.
also Adam Reed says the notes he got from Lazzo were mostly pushing Reed to be more creative and try to surprise Lazzo with things he'd never seen before. Lazzo had a vast knowledge of movies and TV, so most of the time he'd go "_____ did something like that." I think that mentality comes across in Frisky Dingo, and where the story goes.
>Space Ghost did the best interviews of all the hottest 90’s stars.
More like the stars were asked random questions and then they were respun into "interviews" for Space Ghost and his crew to parody.
Moxy was just another block of classic H-B and WB shorts like everything else on CN in the beginning, only with original bumpers. To call it an original show is a gross overexaggeration.
CtC started in 1994. I don't think there really was a whole lot like it on TV at the time. Stumbling home drunk at 2 AM and channel surfing before you pass out "what the frick am I watching" vibes
Based space poster. Sucks we never got a space ghost game in the style of soacequest
I seem to recall downloading a free Space Ghost Coast to Coast game off AOL.
Flintstones and Jetsons are officially a relic now, not even referenced anymore, zoomers have no history whatsoever with them. I’d say as late as the mid-2000s they were universal to anyone over 10.
Jetsons depicts a future without brown people and Flintstones had no brown people outside two background characters in a couple frames of animation.
This isn’t political, it’s the most likely reason why they have been scrubbed from the cultural zeitgeist.
T. Huge Jetsons fan
Flintstones still gets brought up from time to time and Siivagunner/"Grand Dad" will keep it in the mind of zoomers, for better or for worse.
As for the Jetsons, I think it's a combination of it not having the noteworthiness/history of the Flintstones (between its adult-oriented origins and it previously being the longest running animated series) and the style of "Futurism" that it is based on falling out of style.
>and the style of "Futurism" that it is based on falling out of style.
This is so sad.
Kind of sad that we're not living with jetpacks and flying cars and instead stuck with social media and meme culture.
I mean, that style of futurism has been out of style since at least the 80s. Jetsons is very much a 50s optimist future and many of its designs are in 50’s style.
Fallout is literally Jetsons world after the nukes go off sans the flying cars and sky buildings.
If anything, the last 20 years of “futurism” is so drab and sterile that Jetsons futurism would be a refreshing change of pace.
It's more like you can't have future shit without it being moronicly dark and dystopion now, no more positive, optimistic future shit or anything.
I like to imagine they live in the sky because the earth was destroyed in a great race war that resulted in the advancement of society.
Wasn't it canon that the bottom Earth was all poor people living in a sort of post-apoc world?
No. If anything, it's where all the birds now live because the constant aircars made it too dangerous for them to fly.
No, that was a fan theory/joke about the Flintstones.
I believe the movie confirms that the surface is heavily polluted, but outside of that, no.
>unbearably white
Media buzzword which translates to "high quality"
Scooby is still an icon but with not a lot to show for it in the modern era. Nobody liked Scoob! and aside from that the last time Scooby Doo was a big deal was when the live-action movies came out 20 years ago, and the kids who saw that in theaters were seeing reruns of the 70s/80s series in Cartoon Network that ran into the 2000s. As for Grape Ape and Space Ghost and Top cat and Captain Caveman and Speed Buggy--only remembered by older millenials and gen-xers. Kids TV and entertainment is more or less in the same rotten place that all media is in right now, with the major media companies putting out rotten products at incredible speed just to try and keep pace with the race to the bottom of the free and sub streaming economies. it's a dark time for everyone!
>Nobody liked Scoob!
Frick you, I liked it
>Dick Dastardly finally caught the pigeon and had it stuffed to be displayed on his dresser
It was nice that they gave him at least one win in that movie.
>comparing SNES shovelware shit to Klonoa
Take Klonoa's name out of you're dirty unshaved mouth. Klonoa is twice the platformer any SNES game is.
Klonoa wouldn't even be C tier if it was an SNES platformer. Slow, braindead platforming and the gimmick is sucking in enemies so you can double jump, something you can already do out of the gate in a million platformers
No one would care about it without the furry art style attracting manchildren
>console warring in a comfy HB thread
Maybe don’t make bait OP next time? What’s wrong with just “Jetson thread”?
At least OP wasn't console warrying since he also mentioned Kirby, but yeah now that you mention it, it's a shitty OP. Still not an excuse to make it even worse with console wars.
Yeah I vaguely remember Moxy, but well, it was called "The Moxy Show"... all I remember is that it didn't last too long.
After that I think the first original cartoon from CN was 2 Stupid Dog
Astro mogs the living daylights oit of scoober don't
I agree, Astro is based and a family dog.
Orbitty on the other hand…
Nah he’s also based.
>the Hannah Barbara ride at Universal Studios has been gone for at least 15 years
>got replaced by Despicable Me
To be fair, outside of scoob, Tom and Jerry, Flintstones and maybe Jetsons, HB properties really aren't relevant anymore.
Oh yeah, I guess power puff girls counts
>No Johnny Bravo
You disgust me
JB barely gets talked about, aside from "lol, they can't do that today"
Yea but still one of the best HB cartoons out there
Hoping Checkered Past gives CN devs the opportunity to churn out more "nostalgic adult" projects.
The world we used to know is quickly disappearing.
I'm glad I was able to experience that ride back in the 90s.
SOVL
If you dont have any attachment to the jetsons, play the Yōkai Buster version. You get an extra boss at the end.
At least this was a Japanese game and it wasn't developed by Titus or somesuch.
I just signed up for HBO and they have so much Hanna Barbera that my kids are now watching, Jetsons, Flintstones, Top Cat and Wacky Races (I love Top Cat and Wacky Races)
There were some good Wacky Races games. My cousing had the GBC one. We all knew the show from endless reruns.
What was the implications of Jane taking George's wallet?
Greedy selfish daughter spending his money.
Jane's his wife.
She's consumerist and going to spend it all on random clothes and perfume.
H-B waifus are underrated outside of the Scooby girls
