I own a copy of Door to Phantomile on ever system it's been ported too, including vita. Should I get the remake for switch or steam though? I'm thinking steam, and then switch if they ever decide to release physical.
That's a safe bet and probably what I'll do. I prefer physical, but my type of luck is that whenever I begrudgingly buy a digital copy of a game, they end up releasing a physical version like they did with NMH 1&2 on Switch.

So about the remaster. Is there performance issues? I heard in another thread that the switch version dosn't run great but I don't know what the means or is its even true, could have been just shitposting noise.
On Steam I've had no issues. The only bug or oddity I've experienced was clipping through the floor when changing crossroads but that's about it.
The best thing about the Klonoa fans is that they are too old and/or too perverse to troll. A real blessing in the skies.

The music and artstyle are cute but the game is kinda... boring? Klonoa's moveset diversity isn't there and throwing into the fore/background is not only underutilized but feels like it would be better replaced with throwing up and down.
The level design is pretty samey and the only difficulty in the game is the 150 gems which honestly feels like more of a hassle than a fun challenge.
Is 2 any better? I'll probably finish 1 just so I can have an informed opinion about all of the game.

The environments and interlinking 2D pathways are excellent but I have definitely been spoiled by other platformers in terms of gameplay. Klonoa's movement is just kinda stiff, there's no momentum, and they don't go as crazy as they could with the enemy grabbing.

Now that I think about it, was that box art really the only CG render they made for that whole game? Every other piece of artwork for it is just the in-game models cel shaded. Even Klonoa 2 despite not having a single CG cutscene for some reason had renders for every stage and general marketing material.
PRS is such a low quality piece of shit it makes playing this one seem like a next gen high fidelity AAA+ release in comparison.

For Klonoa: Door to Phantomile, I think it's worth emulating the PS1 game for a first playthrough. After that, play whichever you want.
Klonoa 2 on the other hand...this might actually be the best way to play it now. If you don't want to hunt down a PS2 copy, this is better than trying to emulate the PS2 original. Arguably.

The vita version is just the same as the PS3/4 port. It's main advantage was portability but that isn't nearly as big now with this remake being on switch and PC.
Honestly, you can get whatever version you want. They all have pros and cons. Purist will tell you to play psx version, but really they are all close enough in quality. If you play the Wii version though, make sure you fix the voices in the settings.

Finished Klonoa 1 for the first time, pretty comfy small game. Want to go back and get all the rescues/gems now. The anon that suggested shadows to ultra high, and bloom off was right the game looks a bit better like so.

once you start exploring levels thoroughly you will have a gorillion lives and you more or less get infinite lives after you unlock the tower anyways
It may be autistic and/or inefficient of me, but I did the 1-1 life farm.
Since you can 150 gem run 1-1 real fast since the level is really short (2 runs gives you 3 lives by collecting 300 gems) and there's a life coin in the level, meaning 2 runs of 1-1 gives you 5 lives total.
So I heard the 1-1 music a lot, and it's fricking great.
