I wouldn't bet on it happening again. It's the same two players but it needs a fairly specific set of circumstances for someone to go hive tech and the chances aren't high of them happening twice in the same tournament.

yes, but in this case it could've worked. We saw the Mutas HP. one was literally down to the wire while the other two were sub 30%. 4 Hydras could've killed them or forced the Effort in to a weird ling battle, even without upgrades.

Hydras are deceptively expensive, require a 300/300 upgrade investment, and they suck giant dicks against mutas even when upgraded.

Either your have a couple and they just get sniped by scourge or you build a lot of them and then don't have any mutas.
what didnt help is that effort got 3 bases for gas. That allowed him to just build more scourge. If he had only 2 bases action might've been able to just drain his gas by facetanking the scourge.

Effort mindgamed him into attacking by showing the fake queens nest, pretending he was going hive, when he was really massing units. Casters didn't mention it, but I feel that was the most important event in the second half of the game. He probably had a bad read on the game stage.

it would be fine to get additional upgrades, and one or two devourers is good because each stack also increases the splash bounce of each muta hit

you have to chose between greater spire and defiler. Defiler couldve allowed him to plague the muta ball, or cheeto dust the base while his zerglings rape everything.
honestly I think the best shot action had was take the early queens nest, take the 3 hatch advantage, and just force a push with mass mutas + ensnare

against T your corsairs are completely useless except for Dweb so you rather spend those 150 minerals/100gas on other units and tech. Also once you built the fleet beacon you might as well build carriers. You also give up legs and storms if you go for stargate tech.
Against Z it might work but instead of fleet beacon+Dweb research you can put those resources towards storm tech or reavers. How is Dweb going to protect you against mass hydra just raping your face?
