Seems like even Kotaku and IGN are getting tired of Nintendo's gimmicky shit.

it's an elaborate ploy by nintendo to connect emulation to the unbearable homosexuals who work for kotaku.

I’ll side with the Twitter crowd if it means Kotaku gets blacklisted by Nintendo.

I guarantee you if Kotaku said they were against piracy all these gays would still be opposed to whatever they spew. "W-WELL THIS IS HOW WE PRESERVE VIDYA!!!"

70 loose isn't much. That's basically the msrp. If you really cared you'd get a super famicom and loose copy for that system because they're like 30$ and the same rom.

Thievery is cringe and wrong no matter how you're stealing. Doesn't matter if you're a phantom thief or you only steal digital code, theft is theft, and it's against the 10 commandments given to us by our Lord God, therefore by committing this act of sin you are casting your soul off to Hell.

No, articles like this are overall a net negative and makes nintendo more likely to retaliate (like taking down rom sites)

  19. 3 years ago
    Anonymous

Okay lets think about this logically
Kotaku knowingly puts up this article, but knowing that Nintendo will likely retaliate, what is their endgame here?

    The choices are:
    >they're really just too stupid to see what's going to come from this and just want hateclicks
    >they want nintendo to retaliate so they can remove the article and hold it as censorship to make themselves appear like good guys
    >they actively want emulation to suffer

They're right, but at the same time Kotaku and all other game """journalist""" websites deserve to be shut down and this is clearly just clickbait, so frick them anyway.

NO, it's just the usual clickbaiting, not targeted on drones.

Thinking about it, isn't nintendo just going to blacklist kotaku and get other related companies to do the same from now on?

Does Nintendo even give review copies? Journalists already hate Nintendo because of Direct.

        Anonymous

They do but they have review embargoes until like two days before release

          Anonymous

So, yeah, they already hated Nintendo to begin with. If anything, I'd argue that journalists probably have more reason to hate Nintendo than others. At least no one's losing potential revenue from anti-piracy. Well, unless you're one of those buttholes who charges people to use your ROM site.

        Anonymous

They released the metroid dread review on the day of release, so unless they binged the entire thing and posted in the same sitting, it's very likely they did.
I checked and it looks like they got a bowser's fury review out a couple of days before launch too, so it looks like they haven't been blacklisted yet.

Will be interested to see if anything comes from this, if they'll not be allowed into prerelease events and whatnot.

          Anonymous

Review embargoes that don't lift until a few days before the deadline kinda suck for game journos, and the Direct also makes it even more difficult for them. I'd imagine that most game journos don't really care for Nintendo, even putting aside all their other business practices.

            Anonymous

You're probably right, it's possible they don't care for nintendo to the point they don't mind if they cut them off.
I wonder if they're going to be going for hateclicks from now on, it's probably more lucrative than just covering nintendo content, since many other journalist sites do that.

  26. 3 years ago

    no, now go back

No, Kotaku always shits on a company that doesn't pay them or play ball.

      Anonymous

I mean what have they got to lose? It's not like Nintendo can sue them, emulation is legal. Then again, it's always possible that Nintendo could send their ninja yakuza lawyers to harass them into compliance. Kotaku employees seem like they'd break pretty easily.

        Anonymous

Presumably nintendo COULD stop giving them review copies, not allow them into events for prerelease stuff, and get other related companies to do the same thing.
I just wonder if they'll consider this inflammatory enough to do so. I'm sure something will happen as a result of this, but it could just be sweeping under the rug kind of thing.
