Companions are drastically changed, this is a short list:
Carth will be even more beta and whiny, he can even be turned to the dark side/empire
Bastila is pretty much of the same, just more dialog and the romance option will come much sooner
Mission is getting aged up to 18 years old, missing part of one of her lekkus and have the other one "swept" over to mimic "that" hairstyle. And because her VA is also 20+ years older when she first recorded Mission, she will also sound deeper and also take on more of a Tank Girl personality
Zaalbar will be more tribal and very strict, expect blood in the first cantina scenes on Taris
Canderous and HK-47 will be pretty much unchanged personality wise, which was shocking. I guess honor bound mean people are a new "in" thing, and HK-47 is getting a pass because of the meme value he brought to the table for two decades
T3 will get more lines as well as his own questline
Jolee will be more like morgan freeman as the president
Juhani will also have more of a presence, her own questline, and a romance option
The D20 system is gone, its over the shoulder combat with the ability to still pause the game. Because of the live action, the biggest thing is that Force Speed wont be the end-all power anymore. Non-jedi will feel tougher and more relevant
The Good:
The game is bigger and more stuff to do. Gathering/crafting, more sidequests, main story quests are longer. You know how you can blitz tattooine in like an hour? not anymore. there will be fourth wall breaking for points of no return/missable stuff.
Companions also play a bigger part in crafting/gathering. Zaalbar for example is great at salvaging trash piles and will always find a little more, and hes great at making explosives
Mission is better at buying and selling, and has a knack for armor modification

Swoop and pazaak are... worse.
Only Tattooine had Swoop racing done and it was worse. If you finished a race in 2:21:00 time for example, the npc will finish in like 2:19:50. So KOTOR2 rules. Tracks are longer but they are no longer easy credits
Pazaak also has this weird as frick adaptive difficulty shit, the better you do, the worse luck you will have. You will even get attacked by some if you win TOO much. its a weird combination of amount of credits, or winstreak
And its real time combat with the ability to pause the game to issue commands to companions. ff7r for the most part. I noticed the blaster bolt deflection mechanic was gone as Canderous was pretty much just W+M1ing shit down with a cannon. Another thing that pissed me off is that Force Heal didnt effect the party until rank3

Good. Hate that dogshit MMO tier combat. Absolutely dreadful rubbish that only appeals to morons who play MMOs.
It could be fun with more emphasis on tactics, resource management, and positioning. e.g. Mission has Sneak Attack which works when she uses stealth, when she shoots a stunned enemy, or when she fires at an enemy from behind. More things like that to play around with (and a difficulty level that actually required some thought) would go a long way.
They better let me frick Mission if they're aging her up
never played kotor 1 & 2. worth playing through now? does the gameplay hold up well or is it purely for the characters and story
if you dont know how dungeons and dragons D20 system works, you may hate it. spreading points too thin trying to make an all-around character broke me my first game.
You want to melee? you stick to str/con with slight dex. no, melee specialization does not help lightsaber combat
You want to shoot shit? you stick to dex/con
If you like Star Wars or party based RPGs - it's fun. It's just bit of a b***h to get running properly. The gameplay does feel clunky at times and simplistic, missing a lot of QoL stuff, like inventory management is shitty. Some parts of writing aged kind of poorly, especially the Dark Side dialogue.
KoTOR 2 is a huge improvement over the 1st one I'd say, despite being unfinished. Though 1st one is sstill worth playing because it's fun and provides better context for the second one.
