Possibly? I knew as soon as I got an email on monday from GW asking if we want more Kroot boxes due to "unprecedented demand", I knew they either produced too much or didn't sell enough (probably the latter, because GW is always overly cautious with overproducing. I never got this email or option to increase my order during the Dark Angels release which was far more anticipated and sought after at my lgs). My lgs did well with the box tho, but I also know my community well enough to know how much to order. I only ordered about 20 and have 3 left. But with all GW resculpts and expansions on subfactions, they're just too late. The hype is either gone or people have found alternative ways to get what they want or those alternatives are becoming far more reasonable/accessible like 3dprinting. And in some cases they deliver inferior products. That plus a still mixed reception of 10th.
Personally, I was not sold on the box. It's just not enough. Like paying 220usd for just a hand full of ork boyz. And it's blatantly obvious the "premium" "limited edition" "sexy" codex (that's only got about a few months before its inevitably changed in some intentionally moronic rebalancing act) is absurdly overvalued.
In it's current version I still don't think they're a fully realized army. But they have ALL the resources to make it so had they simply added FW options into the plastic line and maybe even winged carnivores.
>220 dollars
Yeah I'll pass.
I would have considered it if it had a great knarloc tbh
Same. Also I'll take Kroot Knarloc Riders over that homosexual AoS lizard any day.
>The Kroot fricking flopped.
Of course they did. They’re a shit subfaction of a shit faction, and are only enjoyed by a vocal minority of secondaries who don’t buy models in the first place.
>faction is about using sleek, high-tech battlesuits, hover tanks and long range firepower >lol let's make an entire box about ugly green bird people using low-tech garbage!
Fricking Guevasa would've been a better pick. Admittedly, Guevasa squads would just be human Fire Warriors or an IG squad using pulse weapons though
>faction is about using sleek, high-tech battlesuits, hover tanks and long range firepower >lol let's make an entire box about ugly green bird people using low-tech garbage!
Fricking Guevasa would've been a better pick. Admittedly, Guevasa squads would just be human Fire Warriors or an IG squad using pulse weapons though
>flopped
It sold out instantly here. Are you just fiending for your latest primaris lieutenant or something? Or is this like Ganker's TORtanic obsession where every boxed set needs to become the next SELLING FAST?
>bros we NEED a kroot codex >kroot could blow up they just need a chance >tau shouldn't be just about the mechs anyway
Here's to 20 more years of mechs.
The cost to produce one box is probably like a few bucks even if they produce too much it's still better and more profitable to safely meet the demand.
You know what subfaction deserves an actual Tabletop release?
Auxiliaries for Imperial Knights (and Chaos Knights too). Think 40k Men-at-Arms. Or dismounted Imperial Knights on foot, and not in their mechs. Give Imperial Knights Damsels and shit.
If someone needs their Auxilleries turned into a faction, you know it'd have to be the Ultramar Auxillia. They're the main foot-soldiers of a Human stellar Sub-Empire that's equivalent to the whole Tau faction in size.
You mean, Agents of the Imperium? Sure, you can't take a lot of points of them, but when you have like 5 models, even 1 Voidsmen at Arms triples the size of your army.
Have you considered just throwing Imperial Guard allies into the mix?
If you're stuck with people playing 10e, then you can only attach 1 Knight or 3 Armigers to a Guard list if you want them working with Guard. For some reason, this does not scale with game size when even the Agents of the Imperium Quasi-Faction intended for being Allies does scale with game size.
A flop would have not sold anywhere. The fact that it sold out in some places and not others is actually an indicator they're in the goldilocks zone for production on that product (a little bit of overstock, but not enough to get in the way of the production of other products).
Let's not pretend GW is bound to 20th century industrial fabrication. They can shit these models out for pennies using foreign slave labor, the only actual effort is what goes into the design of the model before it is ever produced, which obviously doesn't cost them anything extra whether this shit flops or not. GW is like the old tobacco companies, they've managed to victimize a certain subset of the population and addict them to paying regular installments for something they neither want nor need. GW could design a product that only dozens of whales will buy and turn a profit because there's almost zero overhead and it literally doesn't matter what the substantive content of the product is, the whales will fork over hundreds for it. I think we should probably criminalize this kind of business now that 3D printing exists.
GW chooses to do this because it's not a serious business, it doesn't face real competition or anxiety about satisfying its customers. I know several GW employees, they're all very sheltered and their workplace is like an adult daycare. There was this one Swedehomosexual GW employee I had in my group once, he was describing how he was robbed and assaulted, to which everyone in my group is immediately like, "you got robbed by a rapefugee lol" and his response was genuine shock, he simply could not understand how they knew it wasn't a fellow Swedehomosexual who did it. That's the kind of limp-wristed morons working for GW corporate.
The image you posted yourself suggests that they sold out overseas and GW likely printed more boxes in anticipation of them being a more popular release than usual.
How could you possibly extract the conclusion that they flopped from that?
>and GW likely printed more boxes in anticipation of them being a more popular release than usual.
I'm personally praying that they had intern-kun sit down look through order histories and blacklist any addresses that were receiving more than, say, three of any of the high demand preorders to finally sort out the scalper question.
I mean they probably didn't but one can dream.
>sold out in US and Canada
NA is a literal majority of GW sales period, if they're sold out in NA that means it sold well. The entire rest of the fricking world buys less plastic than murica and its hat does. Check the investor reports if you don't believe me. They were likely able to actually have more supply because it's been long enough since Leviathan completely fricked their supply of everything besides Leviathan boxes, remember around launch of 10th there were entire ranges going months without restocking because they were doing nothing but making Leviathan shit.
>if they're sold out in NA that means it sold well.
No, it just means that the number of boxes allocated to the NA webstore were preordered. As we do not know the size of the various allocation we don't know if GW underestimated the interest in NA or overestimated the interest elsewhere.
Real blunder on their part to not only not have the Great Gnarloc but then also their “big centerpiece” is some guy riding a NON-Kroot kin lizard thing. Like their whole thing is Kroot riding other Kroot but then also apparently they sometimes ride this random ass salamander thing I guess
>Like their whole thing is Kroot riding other Kroot but then also apparently they sometimes ride this random ass salamander thing I guess
Well the whole point of the lonespears or whatever they call em is that they're kroot loners and hermits that only show up when called to war, so it kinda makes sense and I feel like conveys that they're not "part of the pack", as it were. That said, I still would've preferred a kroot mount instead. It's also a bit silly that they're supposed to be loners but iirc they come in squads of 3.
The problem is the selling point for these boxes is that they're basically a combat patrol+the codex. But the Tau codex already leaked and everyone knows it sucks. So anyone buying it to get the tau codex early cancelled their preorder.
kroot were a mistake from the start. someone who likes tau because of the robots isn't going to appreciate having to use naked morons just because they're meta, and likewise someone who likes naked morons probably isn't going to appreciate having to use robots. I think someone at gw is just obsessed with inserting naked morons into every faction he can. he must be pretty high up in the company since he has been getting away with it for decades.
I think kroot might have even kneecapped the whole "mixed alien empire" concept from the start. All the fanstuff is aliens wearing tau tech. Kroot don't look like auxiliaries, they look like random tribals with no relation to the conflict at hand.
Haha, this will kill any chance of more Tau auxiliaries being added. RIP in piss those few Anons that keep wanting them.
Tau auxiliaries are so underrepresented that they might as well not even be in the Tau army. It'd be better if Tau auxiliaries were their own army. While Kroot would be a major part of it, it would let them show off the other aliens that supposedly exist under Tau rule.
The problem is that they started with Tau as being the Chinese/Russian Communist empire that have visible auxilary units. But ended in manga-esque Japan mech techs.

Indeed. The whole special units by other alien races is under utilized!
The giant robots were fun when they were niche Forge World models canonically made by one senior engineer going off the reservation and embezzling resources from a new stealth suit project to build increasingly outlandish new prototypes, but then GW just had to go and do it in plastic as well.
In the 3rd Ed codex you could pay extra for them to have armour but the models never reflected that. The idea was that you could pay them extra in universe currency as Mercs and they would be better equipped.

Was thinking about starting a kroot army. Not for winning (ofc) but mostly to play with sth I like.

Got it for 140€ sold the codex for 35€ the cards for 8€ and one of the carnivore sprues for 35€ I will maybe sell the other squad too. The price of GW products only becomes reasonable if you exploit nu hammer gays.
I use the models to play 4th edition or taros. The new krootox will fit nicely as knarloc riders.

Also Kroot box is a really good deal if you can manage to sell the data cards and codex for the full price or even more. im even thinking of getting a second incase they dont all sell and go on sale.
First of all; shut up. Secondly, there is nothing else, shut up.
maybe they should hire some decent sculptors, you think they would learn after the votan disaster
Still at least there are no black kroot
The VOTAAN LOOK PERFECTLY FINE

They have one less datasheet than the Leagues of Votann.
Oof so no. GW really should have made plastic FW models. Maybe even give Anghkor Prok a Datasheet.

Funnily it's still not sold out on GW's site in the UK.
That's pretty much a flop for a 40k pre-order.
Forgot the pic like a moron.
lmao I just went to check how it was in australia, what the frick is this? This is a fricking joke of a box.
Those are australian prices
I know, I'm australian. 370 dollarydoos for 26 minis and a book is an absolute laugh.
Well, australian prices in general are a whole comedy show
Poor colonial-prisoners, still paying their debt to society.
UK price makes sense though since it's pretty much just Combat Patrol of Kroot + Codex.
Holy shit you could get a good 3d-printer for less.

Okay? It sold out tons of other places. Hardly a flop of it sells out.
>Or is this like Ganker's TORtanic obsession where every boxed set needs to become the next SELLING FAST?
Yes.
I see I need to add secondary to my filter
plus the elite kroot killteam has been available for like 6 months at least.
anyone that wanted kroot infantry bought that and used it to either proxy as normal kroot, or kitbash the spare bits onto old kroot.
>bros we NEED a kroot codex
>kroot could blow up they just need a chance

Good, I'll get it for my partner at half price.
The cost to produce one box is probably like a few bucks even if they produce too much it's still better and more profitable to safely meet the demand.

Neither you nor some youtuber have any real proof of this.

make a rule of 0-1 squad of imperial men-at-arms, or darkmech per knight.

>They can shit these models out for pennies using foreign slave labor
Brother, all mainline plastics are still made at Warhammer World in Nottingham
Just some terrain and some Warhammer Underworlds stuff made in China
Why are they making their plastics in a place about ejaculation in pigs?
nah, David Cameron was born in London
GW chooses to do this because it's not a serious business, it doesn't face real competition or anxiety about satisfying its customers. Take your meds before posting
>They can shit these models out for pennies using foreign slave labor
Not as well as you shit out dumb posts.
>the only actual effort is what goes into the design of the model
Tards like op shout FLOP anytime a box doesn't immediately sell out on release
It really is a small miracle GW does so well when every single thing they put out is apparently a FLOP MASSIVE FLOP IT'S OVER IT FLOPPED.
According to the business experts of /tg/, GW should have gone bankrupt something like a 100 times by now. Real "two more weeks" energy.
I don't understand? Isn't a product being available a good thing? Why would anyone WANT it to sell out completely?
No, clearly if GW isn't immediately selling out a product within 5 seconds of it hitting the website, it's GAME OVER, GW IS DEAD, POINT AND LAUGH.
The new Kroot were designed by a lesbian furry which is why they're so feminine and sexualised.
As a man that wants a strong Kroot Huntress to dominate me I say they aren't sexualised enough!
>CA$239 ~ US$ 150
Why the hell would I pay $150 for, what, 24 minis?
