I want to run a death knight. How do I play grim dawn? I'm always completely clueless when I play this game. No idea where to get items from or what kind of stuff I can even get from items.
You just kill stuff and items come out of 'em, same as any ARPG
But PoE I go and get gems and glue them together to make silly GMP skeleton mages and then stick other shit on it to make bigger flashing lights or the cool boots that make skeletons permanent summons. I mean what would be the point of having loot at all in grim dawn if you didn't really have any goals or intent in mind?
Items have stats on them that make you stronger bro, and skills are from the skil trees, its fairly standard stuff.

There are some items that can trigger spells and such, I find those more interesting to be fair like cast a lightning bolt on hit etc. Its main feature for skills though is that you can combine two classes skill trees and also the devotion tree offers some good stuff that can trigger too.

There are quite a lot of itmes that do something in GD. Sometimes will just drop, or scan the vendors in town, or check the faction guys, or farm certain "monster infrequents" which are rare items that drop from specific mobs. Items that will trigger spells when you hit or get hit. You can make entire builds around proccing things from items.
In Grim dawn, good items don't really start dropping until you're at least level 50. Some don't drop until you're in the late 80s or 90s.
By the end of the game you have build defining gear that alters your main skills to allow class synergy.
For example, this items allows you to use a skill that is usually only used with 2 handed weapons.
This is also a quadruple mastery item, meaning you can use it for more builds and get different benefits.
I love how long some of the item descriptions get, especially with augments and shit added

It's probably in the middle ground between D4 and PoE in terms of depth which turns out to be a pretty good game.
It's got complexity, unlike D4, but doesn't need external tools like PoE.
It's a comfy middle ground.
Other than that it's a fairly standard ARPG, if you like them you'll like it and if you don't like them you won't.
It's just another clunky garbage bin arpg that will get thrown in the trash like grim dawn and wolcen. Nothing special or lasting about it

You could probably pretty easily build around the leap and swings, a totem, shout stun, maybe a solo pet, etc. Prob won't ultra fast clear extreme content but could prob get far. The knight class has a lot of ungabunga slashes too.

Last Epoch is a fun game per pre-release game time. It's definitely one of the best in its genre and is easier to build than POE and, well, it's just plain better than Diablo.
That aside these server issues are, without any doubt, fabricated by the company. They're fake. Big streamers and partners are online as we speak. The servers shit the best AT launch which isn't a reality for games released in 2024 on an off weekday at a low peak time.
Hopefully they lose sales for trying to drum up interest with lies and betrayals.

It is game for people who already played all other ARPG to death and want some quick refresher before returning back into GD expansion, PoE 1/2 or even Diablo 2 modded. Oh and also normies, who only play game that their streamers play. Ultimately this game will join Wolcen ranks, ok to play once, maybe twice but that's it.
It's my favorite ARPG of the big ones (D2, 3, 4, POE, GD, Titan). It may not be the best objectively but IMO it makes builds fun and quick grasp and gearing/crafting very kino.

crafting and builds are very accessible, you have to be a real moron to frick up a build and if you do it's easy enough to respec
the build depth is getting there. The developers are on the right track with recent uniques and itemization is very solid on top of the crafting system. Incredibly easy to tweak your own gear during the leveling process and a decent amount of depth opens up in endgame (not quite poe level yet)

I'm running a lich and I'm pleasantly surprised how much synergy there is between the skills. The five skill limit seemed really shit, and well, it still is really shit, but I can see a really cool way to synergize literally any skill with any other skill.
Another good thing is some skills will cast other skills you have, and they will cast the modified version you have when they do
Yep. took the flesh curse modifier that makes it 100% crit but gives it a fairly long cooldown, and also picked up the cast-flesh-curse modifier on transplant. I was pleasantly surprised when it not only cast the fully specced out curse, but had its own cooldown by virtue of being a triggered spell.

I hated Diablo 2/4 but loved Diablo 3 and Torchlight. Will I like this game? My main gripes with D2/4 were that they felt too slow paced. My character did not really feel strong compared to the trash I'm killing.

I can't get into Grim Dawn. Combat feels bland. Enemies just kind of flop over or gib in place. Nothing is a threat, even on Veteran difficulty. Nothing about feels satisfying.

Iron Lore was a team of 30-40 people that made TQ. Like I said, maelstrom is good when you don't actually cast it and it procs instead, it's in the gathering storm (no mana basic attack skill). Then go to the right side of maelstrom talents so they feed each other. Otherwise you need the beneath the waves skill so you don't have to cast it so often.
yeah but when does it do damage? Is gathering storm melee range? Makes no sense to use a ranged skill to proc a melee skill.
maelstrom is an aoe around you, it's practically an aura that deletes anything that gets closed to you. You can also make gathering storm a ranged skill if you want, should be on the southern end of its talents.
For maelstroms damage you either go for the skills that make it pop up when stacks reach 0 or ones that require you to be consistently at 6+ stacks without getting anything from the other side.
