PoE has a separate client which people still use but it's still honestly pretty impressive.
I don't think they had user% growth with their official client since they also allowed the game to be on steam all those years ago.
Yes, people still try to convince people to switch to the client because "it makes patching files faster" but I still think the overwhelming majority can't be bothered and just waits for the update to be done on steam.

I keep running Warlock and damn, Chtonic fissure still sucks. But Soul Feast is so good, with all mana saving nodes and curse spreading it just bonks mobs and bosses very nicely.

PoE's problem is that for how endlessly complex it is 99% of builds devolve into you mindlessly clicking 1/2 movement skills and holding down one button for entire maps. It has good systems and a lot of things going for it, but it has some of the worst gameplay in the genre. This is irrefutable.
Last Epoch is nowhere near as complex, but it takes a big fat stinking shit all over D4 while still being a very easy to pick up and very fun ARPG.
Looking at PoE II it looks like they do want players to branch out a bit more with skill usage but I do wonder if it'll probably just end up being not too different at the endgame.
The issue with PoE is entirely it being balanced around trade
A lot of skills are way too shit to tolerate on SSF, not everyone wants to play DD or some other dogshit, and all the endgame crafting requires massive raw currency spending you wont have

this hasn't been the case for awhile, every build has a arcanist brand debuff setup, divine blessing/vaal auras, sometimes people take molten shell off cwdt or just self cast whatever defensive skill they have, movement skill, and your main skill. poe is very button pressy nowadays, for better or for worse.
