Just translate most if not all those hours spent on games you have on steam to hours spent using those drugs and either socializing with people or studying and getting better grades and improving on your career. Those are just 2 simple examples though, you could devide them on spending more time fishing with your grandpa, learning useful skills, playing with your etc.

video games are far easier to quit/recover from. they DO waste your life away, id be MUCH better off w/o them. but compared to drugs, they are a god send.

People don't really choose their personalities, looks, options they have access to or their early upbringing. This could've never been me because I don't enjoy the company of people and my upbringing and circumstances has made me into someone who vehemently refuses to look for people's approval and can't enjoy people's company unless it's very sparse.

It doesn't work like that. If you use entertainment or drugs to just escape or cope with mental problems, it rarely ends well. That kind of people are why there is the whole "weed is a gateway drug"-attitude. Because they don't smoke it to have fun or be creative. They escape their real life problems they should solve. Yeah, it can be used as medicine for many things, but saying it will make you super creative automatically is a lie.

Vidya is sadly the healthiest escapism as it can give you things to INTERACT with, and that is important for brain. BUT, it doesn't automatically solve your problems. YES, it can help with shitty times, but won't fix diagnosed depression.
