While the source is Valve, the hardware survey is also an opt-in thing.
It's not a monopoly though, but rather that you might want an independent third party to do the surveys if you want to avoid bias. Hardware surveys like this don't exactly need it it though, since it comes down to which users click 'yes' and so forth.

It's basically impossible to work in Windows 11 because of the way open documents, files and folders are grouped in the taskbar.
I was only able to make this garbage useful because of a plugin called "ExplorerPatcher" which, among other customizable features, allows you to make the taskbar behave like the one in Windows 10.
If you can't "upgrade" it's most likely because you have old BIOS version that can be updated if you wish.
