It's not a spoiler for anything but what happens in 1 as a basic premise, and it basically had no context in game either.
It's thrown in with no buildup and exited without having done anything in the plot or led to anything for the viewer for sparking emotion or revealing new context. It's just a musical number to shake things up, among the other drafts you have also tried and failed up to that point and continue to do after.

The best discussion I've found has never been in somewhere big enough to make the news (or somewhere that deliberately latches onto these places like a cancer, see the sharty).
Alt imageboards that came from 8ch dying or small forums are typically the best places to discuss thing, as well as whatever the current type of 'chatroom' is (right now that's discord, before it was Skype, before that it was IRC).
You're never going to get good discussion in any of the three places you mentioned for very simple reasons.

why are people obsessed with playing as wake? in the first game the most interesting thing was the lore and the area of bright falls with its twin peaks diner. i loved the atmosphere. the second game delivers that and then some.

i really liked alan wake 1 but im finding i have to force myself to play 2. The gameplay just isn't fun at all. The combat is a massive step down and having to constantly go through menus to do case shit and case profiling is annoying. Shame.
1's combat isn't anything to write home about either, most of the time you're just flashing shit with your magically-recharging flashlight and 3-shotting most enemies with auto aim
That being said, I do miss the flashbangs being actual nukes. AW2's don't do shit in comparison

I was underwhelmed by the first game
The story was meh and the gameplay/shooting was atrocious. Is the second better? I find it difficult to believe that people were so excited for the sequel to a mediocre game
It's different. It's very much the product of developers who accumulated fifteen years worth of ideas and didn't second guess a single one. So on one hand, it's brimming with passion, ambition and creativity.
On the other, it's a bloated, maximalist vanity project with some barely comprehensible, yet weirdly redundant, writing and annoyingly half assed mechanics, plus the most shameless indulgence in Remedy's multimedia fetish yet.
It's for people who think Inland Empire is David Lynch's best movie and Southland Tales is a misunderstood masterpiece. In other words, me. And even I can acknowledge that it's really clunky in a lot of ways.
What's the gameplay? Is it the same shooting? Or did they change it? I recall seeing it at the last Game Awards and it was more of a hide-and-seek type
It's going for survival horror, but it doesn't quite get how survival horror works. So it's slower and has a bigger focus on ressource management, but the enemies are faster than they should be, the ressources are more plentiful then they should be and it all feels weirdly unwieldy because there's no melee attack so you'll find yourself backed into a corner for pretty bullshit resons a bunch of times.
It's a bit sad, because the first games combat was starting to come into its own in the DLC and AW2 instead opts to do something completely different.

to all who think the combat is bad, can you tell why? to me it was pretty similar to the resident evil remakes, minus melee weapon.
i played on controller though (pc but wanted to play on my tv since its a slow narrative game).
you have to flash your light on a specific weak spot on the enemies to break their shield. If you're on console(which has auto aim enabled) it's gonna automatically shine on that spot. On PC you have to actively aim to hit that spot but if you aren't precise enough you lose a charge from your flashlight. It's quite annoying.

RE2make's gameplay would be bad without the environment being tight, enemies potentially faking death, and resources being limited, which are all areas AW2 is bad at/different to RE2make. It has way less enemies in big open environments with a ton of bullets, and way worse pacing on the action side of things.

I played on PC too but with a PS5 control. I was surprised that it actually has the adptive triggers and took full advantage of the dual sense on PC. It's definitely best experienced with a PS5 controller
