The ironic part is, a live service Bayonetta that's just a FIGHTFIGHTFIGHT with microtransactions and content updates would probably actually have been more fun than whatever the frick Bayo 3 was trying to be.

As a big Kamiya hater you're wrong as hell. All the QTEs and Minigames in the world are preferable to grinding stats so you do more damage and all that shit that would come with the turf.
Now Anarchy Reigns as a F2P title with a cosmetics shop and battle passes? That could work well.

Instead of leveling player stats just make the XP progression bar unlock a dumb hat that doesn't affect gameplay at all, problem solved

Unlocking cosmetics is not good enough. Monkeybrain F2P players need to feel like they are constantly improving even when they absolutely are not. That's why RPG shit exists. Always was the reason. Instead of analyzing how they play or learning more about the game, they just play enough to have a number go up that allows them to win while making the same number of mistakes.

I think Free2Play PvP games shows that this isn't always true. What people truly care about, more than just "me high level stronk big damage numbers", is showing off, and quantifying their investment of time/money/skill. People will buy the ugliest fricking skins ever in a first person multiplayer games just so they can "show off". You can make a Free2Play game that's 100% skill-based, just as long as players have a way of showing other players "Look at my rank, look at my gold plated weapons, basically, I'm just fricking better than you."

I personally don't give a shit about this since it doesn't affect the actual gameplay so they're more like useful idiots if anything

I was talking about SP. Yes, MP is a different beast entirely. In MP it's all about blaming your teammates and using the matchmaking algorithm to feed you players well below your skill level so you can get free wins sometimes.

platinum wants to be profitable so they can keep making games instead of living on instant ramen and being 1 failure away from bankruptcy

kamiya just wants to make unmarketable games because he doesn't care about sales

Bayonetta 1 was a moderate success, the sequel just had trouble getting funded due to the financial crisis

        >moderate success
only cause it was multiplatform and on the right systems which actually find bayo appealing
and it wasn't THAT successful, nobody was willing to pay for bayo2 except nintendo, so now it's locked to systems that it was never originally supposed to be on, no surprise that it's just not very popular when the mature audience is on playstation/xbox/pc

They can't be that unmarketable, they got ro me at least. I'd blame that more on changing waves in the industry. Kamiya pops out a game that back in 5th gen would have been praised for the amount of hours you could put into it, but the modern player just wants a 4-8 hour turn off your brain and look at the pretty visuals, or multiplayer game whose skill floor is entirely dependent on random numbers, meaning it's never your fault if you lose.

if everyone was like you, then everyone would have bought it too, and bayo would be a roaring success

NTA, it's less about the characters but the areas are boring and repetitive. It's also really short compared to other DMC games and yes DMC4 is equally bad because of the backtracking.

I think DMC5 has some of the best pacing and variety in the genre but character switching as variety only makes sense for people who are decent at the game in the first place, for casual players its just a bother
      >why am I playing as somebody else
      >I barely know the moveset of the previous guy
      >This is new, confusing and annoying
set pieces and minigames are a much softer kind of variety because anybody can understand a simple afterburnet segment or QTE cutscene.

Itsuno is better than Kamiya in every way, so I don't see any reason for Capcom to hire him again

      Anonymous

Why the frick would Capcom want him? He left the company on bad terms and took a bunch of staff with him. He's unruly as frick and known for eating at the budget without giving results (Okami, Scalebound). The last thing he directed was The Wonderful 101, which flopped twice. They can't even do the "from the creator of DMC" thing with him since Itsuno is the real reason why that franchise is successful.

        >They can't even do the "from the creator of DMC" thing with him since Itsuno is the real reason why that franchise is successful.

DMC1 was a early PS2 smash hit, especially for a brand new IP. It's why they pumped out DMC2 so quickly. He also directed RE2. Like it or not he's responsible for two of Capcom's most important games ever

        Anonymous

Scalebound, the initial idea is honestly pretty bad, wannabe Team Ico shit, but that was clearly Microsoft trying to pull what Bethesda did with Evil Within, greenlight an unrelated project and then just pressure them to remake DMC/RE4 respectively one change at a time. Bizarre it happened twice.
Mikami can't catch a break because that's also what happened with Shadows of the Damned.

Is GAAS really going to be a thing?

Like are gachas GAAS or not?

      Anonymous

Gachas are the textbook definition of GAAS

It's live service games with continued updates, generally free2play, that make a profit through in-game purchases

      Anonymous

any game that relies on a server you don't control is ~~*GaaS*~~

Well he just didn't handle self-publishing very well and using his leverage at the company to make Sol Cresta, a niche genre that his minigames are famously pretty bad examples of and proceeding to make a pretty bad game, was a weird move.

Gamedevs tend to look down on "business headed people", but after decades of running a company you'd think he'd be slightly good at it.

GAAS is so permeating that people are treating single player games like them, asking when the next "content drop" happens or lamenting over playercounts as "the game is dying".
All big games are GAAS and gachas are that to a T. There's different names for it, but all the online multiplayer games you see these days are content and reoccurring payment mills.
