how is it an "exercise in frustration" if it never hits you more than once. that makes it an opportunity for free hits on the enemy, which is rewarding.
not that guy but it looks wonky when it hits you and doesnt feel satisfying. Take dark souls 2 for example, the hitboxes are actually pretty good but every other boss has a grab attack and it looks like shit when it teleports you into its grab because a part of the attack hit your foot.

Grab attacks in Souls basically add nothing to the complexity of the game
It's not like a fighting game or anything where you can tech or jump the grab
They're essentially just normal attacks that do more damage
The only thing that separates them from normal attacks is just that they have almost universally worse hitboxes
Grabs go through shields, so they're an extra frick you to anyone using shields.
they go through blocks, which means you have to roll or get out of the way
They add attack variety, are a tool to punish shield turtling and a vehicle to give particular enemies interesting mechanics (Lucaria claymen mana drain, Bloodborne brainsucker insight drain, DS1 egg carrier egg implantation)
Why would you want less mechanics rather than more? Let enemies have a dangerous attack from time to time man
The most annoying thing about boss grab attacks in Elden Ring is that it makes the boss 100% invulnerable so the other summoned players have to stand there helplessly and watch their teammate eat shit because he has mcdonalds wifi.

Elden Ring has a Stake of Marika in front of every boss fog, except for Rennala, and nobody has ever died to her in the history of the game.

Boss runbacks don't annoy me because, while they do take time, the time is being spent playing the game.
Grab attacks waste time while also taking the control out of your hands. You can do nothing but sit there and watch.
Taking the control out of the player's hands and making them watch the game do a flex is usually a bad design choice.
getting hit by a grab attack and watching the animation while losing a chunk of your health is a punishment in games that are about challenging you. complaining about not having control for 5-10 seconds since you made a mistake is just whiner mentality and probably adhd.
