Nintendo had full control over what characters get in the DLC though. Sakurai could only refuse if he felt like he could make them work on a gameplay level. Limit break. It differs depending on which party member is on the team. Sometimes it is just 2 party members, other times it's all 3. If bosses have more HP, it could lead to some pretty nice moments, but if they keep the game largely the same, then you might end up just finishing the battles with these attacks flat out, or might even never see them.

I'm not particularly liking the graphics/artstyle. It's good in a sense, but it lacks that gritty, hard shadow contrast and somewhat visceral look of the original. For instance, I've always found Bowyer to be unsettling because of those elements. The remake here makes him look like something out of the bargain bin of Toy Story, especially with those arm and leg ball joints.

SE only knows how to make mobile UIs now, because they have to make UIs for tiny phone screens for most of their games. You can tell that the Pixel Remaster team was put in charge of this game. A shame, the original UI was so full of soul, because it was SNES/Famicom colors. I'm sure they could have found a better way to have the limit break meter and chain gauge with the old style.

Differences: The horns in the begging are more robust in the original. Something about their timber just reaches deeper. I don't know what it is. I'm not a music expert. But the original horns just dig deeper. But also, the notes are more distinct in the original. The new horns are all muddy. Like the guy playing the new song either didn't know what all the notes were, and just kind of jumbled a bunch together. Or maybe his fingers aren't as nimble, and he fumbled that part.
Moving on: The leading high horn playing the melody is higher in the original. And kind of coming short of that high in the remake. So again, the low horns aren't low enough, and the high horn isn't high enough. Making a more muddled sound.
The percussion is dampened in the remake. You can hardly hear the drums over the other instruments. And this is kind of a big deal, because the song is kind of this jazzy hip-hop fusion. The drums are supposed to be strong like a hip-hop beat. That's why there's an occasional record scratch sound. And I know a lot of you are zoomers, or just not cultured. So you don't have experience with older hip-hop music. So you're probably confused by this. But older hip-hop was heavily inspired by funk and jazz. That's why I say it's a hip-hop song, despite it being very heavy in the Jazz department. A classic example would be "Rebirth of Slick", from 1992. The remake song goes full big band, but devalues percussion. Which, to me, makes it sound wrong.

Real instruments are better when they're done right. But when they're done wrong, then it makes the song sound off. Optimally speaking, the horns of the remake would just be pitched higher/lower where necessary, and the percussion would be mixed to stand out more.
And it has nothing to do with sucking the dick of the original. It's just that when you've played a game a few dozen times, and you've listened to the music for hours and hours, it becomes ingrained in your mind. So when someone does a remake, you can hear what's off.
OK, but let's not forget artists take advantage of the tools they are given. And the musicians took advantage of that bitcrush. But more than that, Mario RPG's music in particular is more "full" than other music on the same system. I don't know how to describe it, because again I'm not a music expert. But Mario RPG's music is bassier, more robust. And when they switched to real instruments. They didn't capture that fully.
Also, it's kind of sad that a bit crushed sound chip gets higher highs and lower lows than real instruments.
The SNES' sound chip is also an innacurate bitcrushed render of whatever they were going for in production, let's not forget that.

Essentially, people have hunted down the original samples used to create these songs, and remade them without SNES chip compression. So that is what the song sounds like fully fledged.
One thing I like is how the damage pop-ups correspond to Mario & Luigi's.
I really hope that's a joking remix of sorts of the Boss Battle theme, not the actual one they'll implement into the fights. Because that's really lame.
That was also my first time actually seeing the Trailer for the remake, and it disappointed me on the sound-front, but my 36-year-old nostalgia kicked in when I saw the river, kart, curtain reveal, spinning "perfect impersonation", Yoshi racing bits. I liked that.
They "Mario Kart"-ified the soundtrack. Kind of sad, but I guess understandable.

How do designers not understand how to make a good UI anymore? It's literally all just the most basic copy-paste shit. They should fire these "UX Designers" who insist that things have to be as user-friendly as possible and bring back real artists who want things to look cool and stylish.
Every single modern game has to have the same dead-looking UI, they couldn't even bother to stylize it. Also, I get why they removed the jiggle physics, but it still hurts.
This looks fine as a beta concept, so if this isn't the final product, then I'll hold out some dust-worth of optimism. However, game devs today have no passion, especially when they work for larger companies. For the first time in a long time, a game hooked me, now please, for the love of God, Nintendo, have the backbone to reel me in and PLEASE stylize and polish this game.
They sold cardboard with the Nintendo brand on it, and released an expansion of Botw as a full new game with a $70 tag. You're not getting that at all.

I'm sure there may be extra content after clearing the game the first time to extend it's life and yeah, I'd try a hardmode, why not? Maybe the enemy type will change in each location and the level cap will go beyond 30.

If I had to guess its just a thing to encourage timed hits, AKA every time you land a timed hit or block in a row you chain it which builds the meter and then I guess it rewards you with buffs or something, I dunno. That's jsut my guess.

Yeah, there's at least something new, the Star Road was very unfinished in the original game, and we now see the Rainbow Road in the trailer, maybe they are connected and they expanded that area in the game.

Nintendo's archives probably also have the proper peripherals to make the models readable. I would not be surprised if they owned a few old SGI workstations to access, say, the DKC files.
DKC files were lost according to Rare, hence why the GBA ver kinda looks like shit because they just took the Snes's sprite data directly from the rom IIRC
Otherwise, the SGI SMRPG models are pretty crusty, have you seen the render of all of them? Nearly all charas and enemies/bosses have a render available. They don't look that good

They really did nail the aesthetic. Doesn't have that plasticy, toy look of the promo art but still captures the style of the game. Even the colors look like the original, and remakes ALWAYS frick that up. The bosses and OC characters look fantastic and I'm so glad they didn't try to tweak the designs.
The only thing that stands out is that the UI looks dull and bad. If that's the most botched aspect this is going to be a good fricking remake.

Yoko didn't compose any of the remixes in KHIII besides one. She mostly composed original themes. The remixes were mostly arranged by multiple other composers that were not Yoko, Ishimoto and Sekito.

One of the good things about SMRPG is that the plot is pretty straight forward.

It's not some melodrama bullshit like Xenoblade or Final Fantasy, where there's constant scenes of the characters having feelings and emotions, and any moments of crying are made in jest, as they should be. I think it stands out in three ways.
First, the progression system is really good. It has a system where every few levels your character gains a new ability, so you're always working toward something. You might say "tons of other games do that" but those other games take ages to level up enough to gain new abilities and they're usually boring shit. Whereas the SMRPG abilities are all really fun and cool, and you level up really quick.
Second, just like the Paper Mario games you're doing very random and interesting things in each area. I wont spoil what, but it's just fun. The game isn't trying to be super deep or emotional, you're just going on a wacky adventure.
Finally, the music, which doesn't really need explaining.
Story is straight forward, but what's happening is fun
The pseudo platforming, chest, hidden chest isn't bad except in a few areas
There's a bunch of secrets and some other details, a sort of prototype of the side-quests, minigames and other stuff that would happen in the PS1 FF
Combat has a timed hit mechanism where your weapons and magic can do something extra or more damages, you have to master where the timed hit is. Timed hit also works for blocking attacks and skills (not magic). You can do a perfect timed block to get 0 damage. It's fun to master
But most importantly, it flows the hell out, just like Chrono Trigger. The game goes fast and like this it's never boring, even if it's easy. Also it's very short so it's easy to just pick it up again and play

Notice that Square-Enix is not credited anywhere in the trailer. This can only mean that Nintendo bought the rights off them and own the Mario RPG brand in totality. Which means they won't be including any Final Fantasy references. Culex will remain, because he's a Mario RPG original.

Because nobody ever used that road. You can go the whole game without it, since talking to Frogfucious unlocks star hill from the map.
But on the other hand the cutscene in that screenshot is specifically triggered by trying to go to star road via that exit before returning peach to the mushroom kingdom.
That's not the castle, that's Marrymore, and I think that path was there before.

SMRPG was not that great a game. Too many games beat the frick out of it on the snes, and not everyone was a fan of the game style to begin with. It wasn't as action packed like most of the heavy hitters on that console. They were also competing against the Genesis which was the console of action games.

In the original I always thought it was weird how most of the special moves were just a superimposed effect over all the characters and it didn't really look like it was coming from a specific character or specific characters were getting hit. This looks to be something they corrected which make me happy.
