yeah its the staple for a reason. its no concidence that the ff4 party is literally just these guys but with kain as the extra who is basically just a fighter without spells
Red Mage!
The one with the perfect stat sheet!
White magic? Check!
Black magic? Check?
Swords and armor? Check!
Animal Husbandry? Check!
A pick for RM is a pick for a winning team!
I am the Red Mage, pimpin' a feather in my hat!
The name's Jojo, need something? Yeah I got that!
Watch your step, 'cause I stand where you fall!
Eloquent abilities, and that's not all!
Ostentatiously fashionable, what's my name, b***h?
Light you on fire and then I'll heal your shit!
Just to burn you again and then I'll cut you in two!
It takes three men just to do what I do!
Fool! RM has a perfectly minmaxed stat sheet, it is not his fault that the universe itself does not accommodate it properly. We merely need to adjust reality itself to allow for the the perfect amalgamation of a White Mage and a Black Mage.
I played the Pixel Remaster recently.
I went: >White Mage >Fighter >Monk >Red Mage
I noticed Red Mage fall off hard in the late game, it's amazing how that happens with hybrid classes. I had to give RDM one of the good swords you'd normally put on Fighter or else his damage just didn't happen. >Fighter
Extremely based, had a lot of moments where the rest of the party was kill but the Fighter carried through the battle. >MONK
Finding out unarmed was the optimal way to go monk was so fricking fun, later final fantasies are so fricking stupid. >White Mage
White Wizard was a dude, what's up with that.
Optimal would probably be black mage, white mage, two fighters. maybe fighter and monk.
>only version that doesn't have the dawn of souls making everything easy but also doesn't have half the shit not work is the ps1 version >except the ps1 version runs extremely slow in an already slow paced game >all the romhacks are just fanfic rebalances/hard modes
Which is weird because it also uses "spell charges" like the original instead of MP.
Shit is pointless once you get the good Use Item magic weapons anyways.
Pixel Remaster was giga easy except for Chaos anyway, I think
Pixel Remaster is dumb because it's based on the Dawn of Souls version of the game so everything is nerfed into the ground and piss easy
is right in how nerfed it was.
The stat buffs were what made his damage better and I did use a lot of Attack Ups and Hastes, but I imagine just picking a character who can do that to himself/others/and deal damage on his own is probably better if it weren't for the instances where you NEED magic damage or else the game takes a sinister turn lol
For NES/PS1 FF1, the best is arguably Fighter/Black Belt/Red Mage/Black Mage
White Mage is just kinda useless for most of the game since you cannot resurrect in battle and their heals are really weak, plus you get Heal staff/helmet which lets you heal for free anyway.
Thief is just all-around garbage and serves no real purpose in FF1.
>White Mage is just kinda useless for most of the game since you cannot resurrect in battle
in the nes/ps1 versions of the game the only two ways to revive characters are with a white mage (or upgraded red mage) casting life outside of battle, or by walking all the way back to a fricking town to get a priest to do it for you. no phoenix downs or any of this shit.
Temper is based, I just feel like you could've given the red mage that spell and completely deleted the thief altogether.
What good is a thief with no stealing skills?
>have Monk on team >give him nunchucks early on >never find any new weapons for him that make him do more damage so he keeps them well into his Ninja phase. Wonder why people suck his dick so much when Warrior does more damage and can take a hit >eventually take them off to try and see how they compare as pure units >he rapes everything with his bear hands
Sometimes I miss the era of not knowing how a game works and stumbling into shit like this.
And this is why any time I get that itch to run through Final Fantasy my party is always fighter, black belt, white mage and black mage. Saves money not having to buy black belt any gear after he starts doing 2 hits bare handed.
My favourite is the PS1 version. It's essentially the NES version with a few bugfixes. If your version has MP instead of charges it's not really FF1 anymore.
If you were being optimal, you'd play a better game. The original FF is primitive and unfun. Its not like Super Mario where you can boot it up and still enjoy a play through. OG FF is trash.
I remember playing FF1 for the first time and deciding to draw shitty MS paint comics based on my experiences with the game, it was a way to immerse myself further into the world.
I believe the upgraded classes have better level up stats so I've gone solo red mage (because red wizards don't really get that great of Stat improvements anyway) and only leveled the others up after they advance.
Honestly I didn't notice their stats being that much better in the end so it might not be worth the effort
>what's the optimal party lineup?
original version is 3 fighters and a red mage because bugs make it so thief is useless and red mage mostly does the job of the other two mages better. you can swap one of the fighters for a black belt in order to gear everyone up faster because the third fighter is going to be the middle child that doesn't get any unique drops over the first two >remakes
fighter/thief/black mage/white mage unironically
fighter is still the best class in the game. thief can actually contribute to fights now and ninja is really nice + his ability to run away works properly and is really handy for avoiding fights that are too annoying to be worth the exp given this games gigantic random battle rate. red mage is worse then the other casters by a lot due to his much lower intelligence/mp total and the spells he doesn't have actually being useful so white and black mage are basically mandatory.
an argument could be made that you can drop black mage for monk, because monk is strong and lets you funnel more money to the other 3 which is really handy, because there are items that cast attack spells infinite times that white mage can use to clear up random battles while ninja gets the buffs anyway, but black mage will do these things much earlier during parts of the game that tend to be the most annoying and by the time other characters can emulate black mage he will be getting stuff that's stronger anyway. if you're just going to speed through the game to beat chaos its a more viable tradeoff but if you're doing the bonus dungeons black mage will scale better.
PS: dragon Quest 3 is way better, when the frick is that remake coming out?
He's like a real life thief basically. He has no special powers or anything: he just has less morals than the average person. He probably used to steal bikes and car stereos in Elfheim to fund his crystal meth habit
fighters had more attacks but thieves needed a baseline amount of dex, have backstab and other stuff that requires you to be fast, and not only level up faster but get exp for stealing money so they tend to have 1 or more levels over fighters and so they can further leverage having more raw speed
in the later remakes thief isn't THAT much weaker then a fighter or a monk (he just can't take hits well) and his speed and luck stats working properly unlike the older versions means he can often get the first move and succeed at retreating from fights. the game becomes a lot more tolerable when you don't have to fight literally every random battle, especially since the game has a lot of encounters that are real motherfrickers and has an encounter rate so high that if you fight literally everything you're probably going to be overleveled because you'll run out of steam before you get to the boss of whatever dungeon and end up having to run the dungeon over and over till you steamroll everything in it
and then ninjas got a lot of love in the remakes as well
all 4 homies in a row need sword homie, fast homie, and nuke homie with the last slot being the dedicated weird pick which in this case is probably punch homie because hes the only guy without spells and has all his weird rules about what levels he's better off using items and what levels he's better off being a nudist
no not really. it's basically just a fanfic in every meaning of the word. if you want more ff4 and haven't played the ds 3d remake check that out instead
Easiest run I ever did was 4 fighters. Stomped absolutely everything- until I got to Chaos. Then I needed a couple spells like Fast/haste. Probably still could have done it if I’d maxxed level, but who cares.
>Game lets you buy the PURE spell juuuuuuust before the marsh cave >It costs the equivalent of like 6 gorillion potions which anyone can use and won't deplete your spell stocks >Almost nothing after the marsh cave inflicts poison ever again
I'm still mad.

Four White Mages.
It'll never work.
It's been beaten with a solo WM before.
>they don't get it
You dont know the potential of Shell
Me and a few friends did the run in our childhood, it's quite easy with a little grindan because a few white mage spells are BROKEN AS FRICK.

This. Basically the first party set up you get in FF9 with Steiner, Zidane, Dagger, and Vivi.
yeah its the staple for a reason. its no concidence that the ff4 party is literally just these guys but with kain as the extra who is basically just a fighter without spells
Nah, swap the thief for a monk. Thief/ninja is like red wizard, not really great at anything, just middle of the road.
>Luminary->Hero/Paladin/Dragon/Dragon

If you have anyone with access to a 'cure' spell then you're playing on easy mode.
God damn, I love the job system in RPGs.
>half of these are just bras and panties
>pedoweebs have no imagination
Shocking.
Anime website
This website got a lobotomy in the late 2000s. And it is not like it was full of genius to begin with (except for the mutation Haruhi guy, bless him).
I didn't make the image homie, what do you want from me? Restraint? Judgement?
>calculater
4 dancers and complain that the game is too hard when I lose
I'll take four Monks
I'm playing ff3 right now is it worth to level onion knight job?
No, not at all. The game is comfortably beatable well before level 60. Even Iron Giant in the 3D version doesn't require onion knight
4 fighters
3 fighters and one white mage
BALS TO THE WALL
The Tower of Power
Whatever you want to call it.

I trust Fred more than those weebs.

Doesn't get more SOVLFVL the 4 homies in a row genre, simple as

Four Black Belts.
Most fun?
Whatever you like best.

Red Mage really was the most powerful of the group after learning Mimic but he was too moronic to be of any use. What the frick is his problem?
Fool! RM has a perfectly minmaxed stat sheet, it is not his fault that the universe itself does not accommodate it properly. We merely need to adjust reality itself to allow for the the perfect amalgamation of a White Mage and a Black Mage.
I really want to play this game again, I played it as a kid on soem free website and it was fun.

I played the GBA version back in the day.
How was that one?
>I noticed Red Mage fall off hard in the late game
Sounds like you didn't give your RDM the correct buffs, unless Pixel Remaster nerfed some of them.
Pixel Remaster was giga easy except for Chaos anyway, I think
is right in how nerfed it was.
The stat buffs were what made his damage better and I did use a lot of Attack Ups and Hastes, but I imagine just picking a character who can do that to himself/others/and deal damage on his own is probably better if it weren't for the instances where you NEED magic damage or else the game takes a sinister turn lol

why did you say that and not give the answer along with it
Get a Wonderswan.
Bugs can be patched.
Back in the day you could not patch games because they were on a physical item that had no accessto the internet, can you believe it?
Is anon playing with a real cart and hardware while also traveling back in time?
yeah, how the frick are you playing?
not like a non authenticity pleb I hope.
My favourite is the PS1 version. It's essentially the NES version with a few bugfixes. If your version has MP instead of charges it's not really FF1 anymore.
I played a rom hack that fixes a bunch of the NES bugs. I think it was called final fantasy restored or something similar
Honestly Dawn Of Souls. The sprites aren't the best, but the game runs smooth, and there's a TON of post game fun to be had. Short of that, PR.
for a first timer?

I like using White but FF1 is so easy that you really don't need a dedicated support when Red can do it all
If you were being optimal, you'd play a better game. The original FF is primitive and unfun. Its not like Super Mario where you can boot it up and still enjoy a play through. OG FF is trash.
I'd rather replay FF1 than Super Mario any day.
Yeah it's not a great game. The Dragon Warrior games on the NES are all far superior
Monk and 3 Red Mages.
Monk uses Giant's Glove every turn, Red Mages either heal as necessary or cast Temper on the Monk.
Finish with Haste and Attack.

When someone buys out SE and forces them to work on their actually good shit. See you in three years my homie.
>DQ3
I just finished playing the shocking good mobile port recently. 8/10, didn't frick around with the class change mechanics.
I always struggle to not use the classic D&D party setup of fighter, thief, healer, mage/wizard. Feels wrong to build otherwise.
>thief
>can't steal
>isn't actually fast
>doesn't level up faster like the actual AD&D thief did
>same color scheme as black belt
what the frick is the point
It was supposed to run really well but the programming is bugged.
He's like a real life thief basically. He has no special powers or anything: he just has less morals than the average person. He probably used to steal bikes and car stereos in Elfheim to fund his crystal meth habit
When did the thief=speed meme start? Didn’t fighters originally have the most attacks per round in tabletop?
fighters had more attacks but thieves needed a baseline amount of dex, have backstab and other stuff that requires you to be fast, and not only level up faster but get exp for stealing money so they tend to have 1 or more levels over fighters and so they can further leverage having more raw speed
