Hot take I think kingdom hearts is a lot stronger at mob fights. The entire cavern of remembrance leading up to this room is more fun than any of the bosses. The bosses are simply too gimmicky, too restrictive. They rely on teleporting constantly. They all take place in boring flat arenas too which doesn't help
And absolutely nowhere did I say "2 being good makes 3 bad"
3 is bad because it has WORSE gameplay than 2 and an absolutely intolerable story, which they attemped to redeem by making you spend 30 DOLLARS FOR THE PRIVILEGE and it was still shit.

anon, I say this as someone who will defend KH3, that game has a frickload of awful design choices. situation commands being total RNG sucks and mob fights being designed around AoE spam via the ride summons is absolute trash

has there ever been a more botched series than kingdom hearts? it's not even a complete failure it did manage to finish just in the dumbest way possible
KH2 battles are generally more fun, more interesting and look better.
also the fact that your playing as KH2 sora means the combat feels good instead of like KH3s shitty combat feel and bad animations.
KH2 has some instances of bullshit like non-reactable attacks and annoying gimicks.
a big one is Luxords forced mini game at the end of his fight but then KH3 luxords fight is just a bad fight all the way through.
KH3 fights are generally more reactable and solid in design at least in terms of avoiding damage. but the dealing damage part is either a repetitive formality (because attacking in KH3 sucks and has no variety) or in shitty fights like data riku and data ansem, there are many windows that are too slim for soras shitty slow attack animations to reliably reach in time, forcing most player to use a very specific ability set of turning off "sonic cleave" and using air step + quick slash in order to bypass KH3 Sora's sluggish animation problem.
there are a lot of unblockable attacks in the game that don't actually look like like unblockables, in fact there are literally a bunch of recycled animations that appeared previously as blockable moves but all the devs did is colour them red this time. that always was pretty flimsy design.
all KH2 boss fights are consistently good and interesting.
some data fights in 2 arguably have worse design than some of the better story bosses.
KH3 bossfigths are basically all dogshit with a few good DLC fights being the only exception.
As someone who has done all the battles hitless and with all restrictions, I'd say that KH3's data battles are better designed whereas KH2 has a generally better combat feel to it as well as character control; Sora's turning around in KH3 kills me. It's worthy to note that KH2 still has great bosses, data battle or not (looking at you, Lingering Will) and KH3 also has some combat gimmicks that feel satisfying i.e. shotlock frickery.
3 gets props for all the cool new arrangements of each boss' themes. It's a pity they didn't do anything to make Terranort's fight more interesting aside from making some of his attacks unblockable

3 was more difficult, but for the wrong reasons. Yeah, 2 had cheesing, but without using stuff like Reflect, the fights were difficult but fair.
kh2fm does everything better. at least kh1 and days are soulful but nothing else has topped kh2fm.
