Let's talk about retro Bond games that aren't Goldeneye. I haven't played this one in a long time but I remember it being good, it was basically Brosnan's last Bond movie and was sure as shit a higher note to go out on than Die Another Day.

this one was cool, it was third person wasnt it? I have Agent Under Fire, pretty sure a carryover from softmodding a system prior.
>this one was cool, it was third person wasnt it?
Yeah it's a 3rd person run and gun action game.
It also looks REALLY fricking good for a game released in 2003, EA must've spent a metric shitton developing it.
I found Tomorrow Never Dies for PS1 at the thrift shop last year but still haven't played it yet. Looks like a fun time though
Wasn't Tomorrow Never Dies basically just an attempt to replicate the Goldeneye game and never living up to it?
it is pretty garbage, probably one of the laziest tie ins EA ever did. I can't deny having intense nostalgia for it though.
TWINE on the ps1 is probably my favorite one despite some flaws.
EoN legit impressed me when I first played it about 10 years ago. I loved how the game starts and it has a flawless transition from cutscene to gameplay, I was blown away by the initial visual impression. Framerate is excellent (driving levels aside because it used a different engine for that, from NFS games), I also liked how ammo is sort of limited and you are always looking for a new gun to pick up. Very fun game, and I'd say that From Russia With Love is also worth playing if you enjoy EoN.
I made the mistake of playing Agent Under Fire and Nightfire last after those two games and I was left very underwhelmed.
I'd also say that Quantom of Solace on the PS2 is the most underrated Bond game ever. Completely different from next-gen versions, its very smooth to play.
It's a horrible video game, controls are stiff, auto-aim is unusable, framerate is garbage. I feel nostalgic because I played it as a kid and presentation combined with music was kinda cool, it definitely had good atmosphere but nothing else. Also the car level where you blast rockets was great. I also still remember some of the cheatcodes for it because thats how annoying it was to play it
>Quantom of Solace on the ps2
that game had awkward controls and aiming which ruined it for me
And awful boss fights
The N64 version is far superior, it's basically a successor to Goldeneye with better graphics
superior is a very subjective claim since they are entirely different games
I know but I just preferred the more open ended level design
The GBC version is definitely the worst lol
TWINE is enjoyable, but I never thought it lived up to goldeneye. MP was not as good, and the reliance on scripted events could get pretty janky. Much like the movie it’s based upon, it feels less like a Bond property than a generic action-shooter.
It has a few stealth sections so I would not call it generic, the only shitty part was the helicopter boss
Also the level with Davidov was total janky if you didn’t do it right.
the more people go in expecting goldeneye the more they will be let down
It's more like shitty Syphon Filter knock off
Also Carver looks hilarious in that game
For me it's TWINE on the ps1. Blackjack mission and stealth mission with tranq gun and bugging phones were top kino
It controled and played nothing at all like a Syphon Filter game
On a side-note it still fricks me off that TWiNE is such a shitty bond film and they really wasted Robert Carlyle as a hammy schizo villain.
I have so much nostalgia for that movie, used to rent it often on the VHS to watch with my dad who was a huge Bond fan. At least its better than Die Another Day
EON is basically 5th Brosnan movie and would work pretty well
It was written by the guy who wrote Goldeneye, Tomorrow Never Dies and TWiNE so yeah it feels similar in style.
I'm pretty sure that was explicitly EoN's goal, to be 2004's Bond film released that year that we never got.
Let's be real, it had nothing going for it besides prime Denise Richards
The World is not Enough for N64 was great as I remember. Vertical split screen for multiplayer took a little getting used to but wasn't a hindrance.
really cool in a lot of aspects but the emphasis on lock on aim is a deal breaker for me these days, just can't go through hours of that crap.
For me it's Agent Under Fire multiplayer with jetpacks and low gravity on
That plus grappling hooks was my favorite
I never see picrel mentioned in bond threads. Still have my cartridge. It's an original story that (like all good bond stories) takes you around the world from China to Morocco and elsewhere. The game plays like a more action-oriented Link's Awakening clone. Controls are mostly tight and difficulty can spike. Missions for example may be linear, or have you investigating for clues to find someone hiding out in a casino. This would include finding items, speaking to npc's, and discovering secrets. Really recommended and a true hidden gem on the GB.
Had this on GB, seemed cool. I got stuck as a kid not knowing how to shoot the lights out at the bar early on though. Should revisit it.
I could make a super weird post right now but you all couldn't handle it.
First one I ever played was on C64. I remember you had to escape a burning building but the gameplay was so cryptic I never understood it (i was 6). I should probably give it another go now that I'm ancient.
Nice, I just started that one after finishing Rogue Agent which might honestly be one of the most boring and exhausting games I have ever played, every mission plays out exactly the same and you just shoot everything that moves, no stealth or vehicle sections, just shooting non stop.
Even trash like 007 Racing and other PS1 Bond games had some gameplay variety and didn't drag on for so long, according to HLTB it's like 7 hours but it felt like an eternity. The dam with multiple tanks and copypaste layouts was especially tedious and the final level with guys who can kill you in a single hit was pure bullshit.
It's also a good example of an FPS held back by consoles, you can only carry two weapons or one 2 handed weapon at a time and unless you only hold one weapon you can't even use grenades, also some smartass thought putting the crosshair dot slightly above the center was a good idea.
Playing as a Bond villain was a great premise and they fricked it up, they also threw in all these villains from various eras like Dr No, Pussy Galore, Xenia or oddjob who gets killed off in the most unsatisfying way possible, it just felt like a bad fanfiction and obviously it was called Goldeneye just so it could sell on name recognition. I finished this shit only for completion's sake.
The DS version is surprisingly impressive aside from the shitty music, it was one of the firstr FPS games on the system and the developer also made ports of Call of duty games
It's really not that bad, the multiplayer was fun
This game sucks ass, fricking 6th gen game with lock on aiming frick off with that shit homie
MGS clone with better graphics but worse level design and pretty much everything else. If you like 007 play splinter cell, hitman, MGS. For actual games of the franchise Goldeneye and Under Fire
How is it a MGS clone?
Nightfire
were there any options for pursuing objectives in a different order like with Goldeneye? TND seemed more like an older 'boomer shooter' in comparison, but it was one of the more interesting films in some respects.
>press action key next to a piano in any bond game
>bond theme plays
neato
Why was Goldeneye always being updated when it made more sense to keep it in the early 90's? Was it purely due to RARE's success?
>updated
What do you mean it got re-released only recentrly and got just one remake
>Top tier opening Sequence
>Brosnan
>Jaws
>Dafoe as the foe
>Entire original cast voices their respective characters
One of the best bond games ever made period.
