There's lots of discussion about many pokemon but I've noticed that I rarely ever see discussion about the series own mascot on this board
Be honest with me..
If this thing wasn't the mascot of the franchise would anyone even remember that it exists?

the only reason it became a mascot was because of how popular it was. It isn't like CHARIZARD who was given inflated importance since the beginning, Pikachu was nothing more than a random early shitmon that the devs went out of their way to hide by making it rare, yet people loved the thing anyway.
It's not totally random and they weren't scared to make the coolest pokemon rare. GF knew it was cute (that's what Nishida was brought in for, after all). There's a girl begging for one at the museum and there's a pikachu fanatic at the fan club. It's one of the six mons that appear on the first SGB borders, along with clefairy. It was nowhere near mascot status but it was prominent despite its rarity.
Fat Pikachu is the essence. They should have kept him like that
she cute
I'm convinced the Pikachu Mandela effect is because kids remember the back sprite which *may* look like it could be interpreted as a black tip.
It was effective against Misty if you were a Charmander kid. So probably it would still have fans.
Should've made Eevee the Mascot
The franchise would've been 10x more popular
>GF tried to push that homosexual Clefairy down our throats
>Pikachu btfo'd through natural appeal
Fairy type lost from the start and now they're overcompensating by making it broken
I'm surprised Pikachu didn't get retconned into a Fairy type during Gen 6
It's in the fairy egg group
Because that was Dedenne‘s gimmick.
Why is there no ghost type Pikaboo
>what is Mimikyu

yes because hes cute
>If this thing wasn't the mascot of the franchise would anyone even remember that it exists?
Probably.
Kanto already has a lot of these first-stage cutemons that are more popular than their evolutions despite being relatively rare.
Clefairy, Jigglypuff, Psyduck...
If Pikachu hadn't been the mascot it'd have just been another one of those - but let's be real, Pikachu is the mascot because it just has the most mass appeal, stradling the perfect line between cute and cool.
>t just has the most mass appeal, stradling the perfect line between cute and cool.
And sexy. You forgot the sex appeal
Eevee is better
I mean, could be worse.
I personally always loved Jigglypuff's pranks during S1/S2 but it's slightly too homosexual as a mascot.
MissingNo will always be the hidden Gen 1 games mascot for me, used to be the ultimate must have back in elementary school
At least we got Charizard as secondary main mascot
Why is it that Pikachu is exempt from being picked on for being weak? Sure, it involves into Raichu but still.
I think it was stronger than Mewteo in gen 2 with a Light Ball. Don't quote me tho
Mewtwo*
My bigger question is why was it so hard to breed one with Volt Tackle?
In Gen 3 I meant
Because the light ball was rare and you could only get it in Emerald. If you had Ruby or Sapphire only then it was impossible
You can get it on wild pikachu in RS
It’s absent from frlg
pikachu feet
Pikachu is so cute it fricking angers me
I will admit I've always had a soft spot for Pikachu, he's just such a cute little fella. Especially with cuddly plushies like this!
