I love those old renders. Reeks of 90s but they have their charm.
Anyways throwing the controversial opinion that most Spyro games are decent and only a small handful like Orange and ETD are pure trash.
ETD is decent, it's just more like a tech demo. It had potential, but the developers were so unorganized and higher ups fricked everything up. I do believe if it had been completed it would have been a great game.
Perhaps. I suppose what I'm saying is if they had all the originally intended levels (can't remember the exact number) and all 150 collectable dragonflies as opposed to the 90 we have in the released game, it would have at least been an okay game.
3rd always felt like a refinement of 2, just with a little too much in the minigames department.
I crave more like the original Spyro though. No backtracking necessary, no extra stuff, just pure and distilled platforming.
I felt nostalgic one day so I downloaded Spyro Reignited Trilogy and what an utter piece of shit it is.
Don't know if I was too young to remember but original seemed as a much better game.
this post shows how moronic you people and this argument is. RE4R is a solid game and fans of the original still largely like it. Spyro is a case where it was legitimately soul-sucked. RE4R is a bit less soulful but nothing like Reignited. All of this is white noise to you because you are soulless so you can't identify these things. To you we do sound crazy because we are speaking a language you are incapable of understanding.
I've played the original trilogy an autistic amount of times since I was a kid up until now being almost 30 and haven't played the remake. What's your opinion on it? The textures put me off massively, it all looks very wooden, I don't really like Toys for Bob's remakes in terms of design but how is the actual gameplay? Does it feel nicer to control or anything?
if you have a massive amount of nostalgia for the originals to the point where anything deviating from them will upset you just play the originals. you're not missing out on anything by ignoring them if you have a lot of love for the original games anyways.
I just 100% the first 2 remakes in a sitting each. I enjoyed them. I'd played the originals for hundreds of hours back in the day. Haven't started 3. May not because I really don't want to do the mini games. Though I suppose I don't have to 100% it.
What is wrong with the remakes? I've been interested for a while but I see people saying they're le bad but they (you) rarely bother elaborating on that. Would I miss anything by playing the remakes instead of emulating the ogs?
>The art direction is all over the place, this includes character and enemy designs, color theory, UI, and overall aesthetics >The reignited dynamic music is worse (and the original music is butchered and needs mods to be restored) >Flight levels have fricked controls >Longer loading screens >3's vehicles and animal companions control even worse than the original with the exception of agent 9
If anything spyro threads are always full of detailed comparisons.
Because some fricking literal whos are genuinely going to even remotely fricking compare to Stewart fricking Copeland in his personal fricking fugue-state-stream-of-consciousness music experimentation.
Were the flight controls fricked? I was terrible at them when younger but did most of them in a few attempts except for the one where you follow Hunter around shooting gnorcs on walls. I even did some on my very first attempt.
for me its sorta the feel that everything was off. Like the lighting, the dragons, the enemies, its obviously wasnt the same as the ps1 games. yet something didnt click with me. maybe i should of played riptos rage first to soften my head
>loading screen tied to actual load time, meaning it's either 25 seconds of nothing in console or you see it for half a second on PC >no dynamic camera angles to evoke the feeling that spyro is actually moving from place to place >no animation of gems flying from the counter to the game totals
even the GBA games did this better, for fricks sake
Typical soulless remake problems, and without offering any reason to play them over the originals.
It's kind of a waste of time to go into detail as to why the remakes suck since you're basically just comparing everything in the entire game, you might as well just play it yourself and compare.
the first game got 90% of the dev time, second game got the other 10% and the third was outsourced, so anyone butthurt about reignited trilogy is mad that their inferior game got shafted
Modernshit just can’t get any soul, even when it’s copying stuff that has it. It’s one reason remakes all look worse. There was something back then thats been lost.
I will say that the GBA games (except the crossover) are serviceable. Especially Adventures/Attack of the Rhynocs.
But they are B tier at best compared with the PS1 originals. Otherwise the rest is pretty bad, yes.
Game gets boring once u realize u gotta collect and collect and collect... Very basic mechanics and easy level design makes the game a chore to finish... 100%ing it is something almost any1 can do though I'll give it that
do you guys ever get tired of autistically complaining about the same shit over and over and over for years. the franchise is dead and buried. deader than dead. crash and spyro threads have been the same coomer garbage and autistic bickering for as long as i can fricking remember. what else is there to say that hasn't been said a million times over?
Then why are you even here. Also, at least these two still get threads and some few people actually interested in discussing them and clarifying shit for newcomers like ITT, unlike a lot of other IPs (see megaman, klonoa, banjo, etc)
i'm just saying maybe /vr/ would be better if all you want is the same tired circlejerk about the ps1 games while shitting on everything else relentlessly. its boring.
Then why are you even here. Also, at least these two still get threads and some few people actually interested in discussing them and clarifying shit for newcomers like ITT, unlike a lot of other IPs (see megaman, klonoa, banjo, etc)
When the games industry itself has effectively admitted it can't do better, instead just going for rehashing our old classics, why would we talk about anything else?
Did you ever consider that the problem isn't that the IP is dead or that everything there is to say that "hasn't been said a million times over" isn't the case but that the something about the franchise that naturally attracts boring, autistic people that are stuck in repetition? The stereotype of "that Spyro kid" exists for a reason.
Based. Crystal Islands is close to being the perfect level. Beautiful scenery, hauntingly beautiful and adventurous soundtrack, the I honestly found both the slide to be fun and thought that the wacka-mole mini-game to be chaotic fun. If anything, I'm not much of a fan of the extremely basic platforming even by this series's standards but nearly everything is cool at best and tolerable at worst.

Crystal Islands really is one of the stand-outs of 3. Really captures the fantasy aesthetic, honestly more than the rest of the Midnight Mountain levels which all seemed a bit strange as a whole. I can't quite place them, but they always felt off in the grand scheme of things.
Also helps Crystal Islands had a spooky vibe in appearance and music that felt like Dark Passage.
Spyro is unironically kino because of its subtle, coming-of-age theme.
The first game is very simple; big, scary-looking ugly guy who seethes with envy at your beautiful, elite master dragon race wrecks shit and you stop him. Why is he such an butthole and what was the exact thing he did that got him banished? Who knows but the dragons appear to treat him with nothing but sneering contempt.
Second game has Spyro taken out of his little bubble and put into a world with different cultures with their own complicated geo-political conflicts. Again, Spyro's just a kid that wants to get home and frick around at Dragon Shores so he shoots first and doesn't even ask questions later as a means of accomplishing his goal. Here he also meets Ripto, another bad guy who clearly has issues stemming from abuse he's suffered in the past but who cares about any of that? He's the bad guy so save the day and kick his butt.
Third game is where it gets more complicated. Although the Sorceress is undisputedly heinous, she is nonetheless the third person in the franchise that has a bone to pick with the seemingly benevolent dragons and banishes them from their homeland as a result of a falling out in which the exact details remain a mystery. Although this time around Spyro has grown accustomed to interacting with and befriending all walks of life, there's still an element of innocence to him that plays a big part in the overall theme of the series and especially this game. People have complained relentlessly that Spyro never interacts with the Sorceress and we're given no indication that he's discovered her true intentions that revolve around launching an infanticide against his kind. In the end, Spyro is used as weapon against her by all of the older characters who know the truth but neglect telling him as a way from him to get the job done and retain his innocence for she is just another baddie to torch. From fighting typical bullies to battling against the depraved establishment.
It's not that the remakes are horrible. They're alright. But it's like, so loudly obvious that they took way too many aesthetic liberties pointlessly and ended up with way worse than they could have.
They're not bad, they're annoying.
I tried to play on the free weekends but didn't bother when you had to make an account. Honestly if it ever goes on sale (or goes on Steam) I'd for sure grab it. Seemed like a decent time.
Cynder could work if she was retooled a bit. Lose that anklet and redesign her to fit with classic Spyro and you've got a potential second protagonist that a Spyro 4 could benefit from. You also reminded me that the elemental breaths in EtD were wasted on that game.
I forced myself through the first game and honestly regret playing it. It's so boring: run down a hallway, mash buttons at enemies, repeat. Story was just you're le chosen one. Cynder was cool I guess.
Tried the second game, looks like more of the same so I didn't get very far.
I want to play the third game sometime, I heard it was a big improvement over the other two.
The entirety of the LOZ can be summed up as "What if Frodo Baggins was a dragon?" Even has its own dragon Sauron who mentally torments him throughout the journey.
>Releases on October 23, 2018!
Man, even beyond the terrible aesthetic and visual changes, a part of me will forever hate the remasters for causing Activision C&D multiple promising looking fangames (Myth's Awaken, Spring Savannah, Dream Nexus). The latter one being just weeks away from release
As of not very long ago this guy had an unlisted video on his channel and in the comments they were still working on spring savannah secretly but it's impossible to view it now
I love those old renders. Reeks of 90s but they have their charm.

ETD is decent, it's just more like a tech demo. It had potential, but the developers were so unorganized and higher ups fricked everything up. I do believe if it had been completed it would have been a great game.
There was never a "complete" vision for EtD, it was an in-fighting trash tornado from the start
Perhaps. I suppose what I'm saying is if they had all the originally intended levels (can't remember the exact number) and all 150 collectable dragonflies as opposed to the 90 we have in the released game, it would have at least been an okay game.
First Spyro the best in terms of platformer difficulty
Second game is best comfy and fun games
Third is a shit
That's everything
3rd always felt like a refinement of 2, just with a little too much in the minigames department.
I crave more like the original Spyro though. No backtracking necessary, no extra stuff, just pure and distilled platforming.
>Third is a shit
Third had the best looking levels and art direction.
also the best level theming as well, and arguably the best music
same as snide pooper.
Can't wait for someone to start seething about remakes
Spyro is one lucky dude
I felt nostalgic one day so I downloaded Spyro Reignited Trilogy and what an utter piece of shit it is.
Don't know if I was too young to remember but original seemed as a much better game.
>remembers game
>downloads a different game
>says the game he remembers doesn't live up to it
dude, you are just a moron, everyone knew the remake was dogshit
Well, I was fooled.
>Download RE4R
>It's different than RE4
WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOW
this post shows how moronic you people and this argument is. RE4R is a solid game and fans of the original still largely like it. Spyro is a case where it was legitimately soul-sucked. dragon eggs and gemstones
thieves and dragonflys
cool skyboxes
*makes you hunger for fruit flavored hard candy*
for me it's Gushers
remind me to get these next time I go to the store
Brothers in arms.
I always got a "candy coating over chocolate" vibe from them for some reason
i like the remakes and originals.

israeli bear
Is this the thread?
I'm pretty sure this has to be the thread.
You know what to do. Post them.
As a bonus how many samples do you recognize from Spectatronics Distorted Reality 2
It's a shame there isn't a horde of Spyro-inspired indie games like there is for Banjo or Mario64
Pretty sure there were several being made years ago and craptivision shut them down
What is wrong with the remakes? I've been interested for a while but I see people saying they're le bad but they (you) rarely bother elaborating on that. Would I miss anything by playing the remakes instead of emulating the ogs?
You would miss out on playing the ogs.
All remakes are shit.
>The art direction is all over the place, this includes character and enemy designs, color theory, UI, and overall aesthetics

Well these sure are lots of redflags. Guess I'll play the ogs instead and look for some QoL mods to install to them assuming there are any
>the music is worse
Because some fricking literal whos are genuinely going to even remotely fricking compare to Stewart fricking Copeland in his personal fricking fugue-state-stream-of-consciousness music experimentation.

Good times.
Were the flight controls fricked? I was terrible at them when younger but did most of them in a few attempts except for the one where you follow Hunter around shooting gnorcs on walls. I even did some on my very first attempt.

this has been debooonked, top spyro can move around, he remains stationary if you don't press anything
old is better
>loading screen tied to actual load time, meaning it's either 25 seconds of nothing in console or you see it for half a second on PC

they're fine if you've never played the originals but you are playing a soulless goyslop cashgrab. you're better off emulating the originals.
Typical soulless remake problems, and without offering any reason to play them over the originals.
It's kind of a waste of time to go into detail as to why the remakes suck since you're basically just comparing everything in the entire game, you might as well just play it yourself and compare.
like most remakes, their existence is completely unnecessary.
People wouldn't have as big of an issue with them if the originals were also included as a bonus.
I wonder why this isn't more common. Medievil is the only recent example of a remake I can think of that included the original.
Only real complaint I have is that the AI and physics are tied to FPS and the game defaults to a higher FPS causing a bunch of bugs.
Playing the Spyro remakes instead of the originals is like watching the Robocop remake instead of the original
wtf is that
Quite possibly the most hamfisted political message i've ever seen in a movie.
And they kept the fricking arm.
the first game got 90% of the dev time, second game got the other 10% and the third was outsourced, so anyone butthurt about reignited trilogy is mad that their inferior game got shafted
The presentation was massacred.
Modernshit just can’t get any soul, even when it’s copying stuff that has it. It’s one reason remakes all look worse. There was something back then thats been lost.
The remasters were a big success according to my headcanon so where the frick is the new game? Is Crash their favorite child instead?
In terms of sales Crash was always better so it's a safe bet.
i only consider the ps1 games to be legitimate spyro games. the rest is israelite bullshit
I will say that the GBA games (except the crossover) are serviceable. Especially Adventures/Attack of the Rhynocs.
But they are B tier at best compared with the PS1 originals. Otherwise the rest is pretty bad, yes.
A Heroes Tail is a solid 7/10 game in my opinion. It just needed to be bigger and have less minigame shit.
Fappable Fauns with Fat, Fappable Faunbags.
Game gets boring once u realize u gotta collect and collect and collect... Very basic mechanics and easy level design makes the game a chore to finish... 100%ing it is something almost any1 can do though I'll give it that

This is my first time in a Spyro thread. Being a le epic oldgay isn't the brag you think it is.
i'm just saying maybe /vr/ would be better if all you want is the same tired circlejerk about the ps1 games while shitting on everything else relentlessly. its boring.
>same tired circlejerk
It's the first Spyro thread I have been in still.
Then why are you even here. Also, at least these two still get threads and some few people actually interested in discussing them and clarifying shit for newcomers like ITT, unlike a lot of other IPs (see megaman, klonoa, banjo, etc)
We were having Spyro threads before Reignited was even announced. All hope was lost then. You won't crush our spirit.
When the games industry itself has effectively admitted it can't do better, instead just going for rehashing our old classics, why would we talk about anything else?
yeah but what is the point. the franchise is dead with no signs of returning anytime soon.
Did you ever consider that the problem isn't that the IP is dead or that everything there is to say that "hasn't been said a million times over" isn't the case but that the something about the franchise that naturally attracts boring, autistic people that are stuck in repetition? anon you're thinking about Pokemon
I'm here to post funny pictures and tell people my favorite level is crystal islands from 3, if anyone brings up the demake that's their business.
Based. Crystal Islands is close to being the perfect level. Cinder had a better elemental layout

Spyro was born with fire in his ass and used as a unwittingly pawn and weapon for the Elder Dragons
Sex with Bianca, and also sex with the Sorceress.
Reignited ruined any discussion about the franchise more than Subways ever could have hoped for
Reminder that she's unlockable starting today and that she's a blocker. Hopefully meaning that she's a tanky healer.
Oh shit you're right
>early access
>for a stillborn meme game with no people playing
excuse me
I like gliding and charging haha
Sandwich lizzer is CUTE
Never got into Spyro. I was more of a Crash guy
i was always under the impression that most people that likes one also likes the other.
Frick it, gonna buy and download CTR just for Elora.
God help me.
I've unlocked her bros..... I'm so happy...
Doesn't take much to unlock her, just 3 matches

But is it fun?
Yeah despite me sucking I'm having fun lol
I tried to play on the free weekends but didn't bother when you had to make an account. Honestly if it ever goes on sale (or goes on Steam) I'd for sure grab it. Seemed like a decent time.
What kind of creature do you think Spyro is?
spyro music kinda sounds like ai, it's so fricking generic and half assed.
I liked ETD, cool for its time
Wouldnt touch it today tho
she has an actual model now instead of looking like a crackhead, dare I say that she looks good even
They didn't just add a leaf in front, but they carefully obstructed her butt now too. Go to hell, TfB, you fricking prude killjoys.
Wonder why we never got a Spyro 4 like we did a Crash 4?
Don't care because the old team is dead and I don't want some fake gay pajeet game
>A hypothetical Spyro 4 would probably pull a Tawna on Elora.
Worse, they already expressed interest in bringing back Cynder. All those weird deviantart furgays and bronies would love it.
Honestly Cynder wasn't that bad.

Toys for Bob needs to go broke. I don't want to see any more of their abortions.
I actually liked The Legend of Spyro trilogy. At the very least it tried something different rather than aping the PS1 trilogy's success.
I forced myself through the first game and honestly regret playing it. It's so boring: run down a hallway, mash buttons at enemies, repeat. Story was just you're le chosen one. Cynder was cool I guess.
Tried the second game, looks like more of the same so I didn't get very far.

The sound Sparx makes picking up gems has lived in my brain for 20 years.
Enter the Dragonfly was great and I'm tired of people shitting on it.
Stop, only Sonic can get away with statements like that.
