Other than that it's just Bloodborne with limp dodges, parrying, and less interesting weapons. Don't really see what's so great about parrying everything, its just like dodging except tighter timing and you stand still so there's no directional aspect to it. It's not like "whoa parrying this BLOWS ALL FromSoft games out of the WATER"

This was my problem with Wo Long and this game. I never had a problem with Sekiro, I beat that game so many times. But Wu Long has some weird animations and can be annoying but not hard. This game is just purposely trying to frick with you every chance it gets with poor animations. You should be able to read it and act on that. This has a lot of timing you need to remember of certain peaks rather than reacting to the attack itself. It's a first good attempt at a souls, but they need to do more work on their animations to be more fair

I liked Sekiro but it's way too short, is it longer or shorter than Sekiro? I have not played Bloodborne by the way and people say that one is very short as well. If it's as long as DaS3 that's good enough for me.

I enjoyed my time with it. The weapon building mechanic was pretty fun to mess around with and let you find a weapon with moveset and scaling that you preferred. The game felt long enough, the pacing didn't particularly drag in any specific spots. Difficulty overall was pretty good but there are some big spikes depending on what type of weapon that you like, and there are some dogshit enemies as well (fat fricking clown miniboss comes to mind). Levels were way too linear, the tree fruit to respec was nice that it was accessible but you got so much fruit you'll be swimming in it, and we definitely needed more enemy types and varieties in what we got. One of the biggest issues is some of the bosses don't have consistent parry timings, in a game where you're expected to parry red attacks that is some shit. Perfect example of a 7/10, it did what it set out to do well enough but there are flaws.

It's literally an inferior version of From's ore imbuing from DS and ER's ashes system combined into 1, then with added cranks.
I'm convinced people like it because they are no skill try hards who now have a game that superficially appears difficult that they can beat their chests over, but in fact it has so many more ways to cheese/tone down the difficulty they were finally able to beat a "souls" game. Level design is absolutely brain dead. Throwables, even at default carry amounts melt boss phases. The P-Organ upgrades further boost P's power to ridiculousness. Grindstones, particularly later ones are also phase deleters. And scaling of enemies, particularly bosses, is ridiculous; pay attention to some of the webms people post some time and look at the health bars and notice the same boss always does right around the same percentage of damage despite the obvious differences in total health.

Great game, the only major flaw imo is the extremely linear progression. Also, while the level design is okay, it could have used more hidden stuff, that's actually hard to find. Combat was great although I'm not a fan of the rythm of attacks, maybe the expension will fix that since we will (presumably) no longer be fighting puppets/undeads with jerky movements.

That's about par for the course with Souls and Souls-adjacent games, yes. Individual enemies are rarely strong and easily stunlocked so the only challenge is in how they're positioned with each other. The elite enemies later on can kick your shit in though.

Been playing for a few hours. It's definitely the best Fromsoftware clone I've played to date but there's still something missing, something to do with the enemies' animations and hitboxes and the windows for parries. Just not as polished? I dunno.
Also, extremely weird and off-putting choice to have a bunch of the voice acting be Brits doing American/Transatlantic accents.

It baffled me returning from Elden Ring and getting used to every enemy rolling a D20 and consulting their horoscope before deciding when their attack will connect
I think the people who complain about parry timings never bothered to figure out where the parry window is on the actual block animation.
Since they are at the very end of the block animation, you get a faster timing if you hold block, relese and quickly block again.

the flaw in this argument is thinking that someone who got a game for free would keep playing it despite the flaws. A video game is a much larger time investment than eating a free meal, and if it sucks they drop it immediately because they don't have that sunk cost instinct demanding they "get their money's worth" or whatever. They also have no real attachment to the game for the same reason, so if it sucks they're far less likely to leave a review or suggest improvements, etc. Video games and other amenities markets have a completely different dynamic in terms of time requirements, expectation of satisfaction, accessibility, permanency/limited availability, etc.

The "correct" way to dodge it is to actually go under the boss' ass, then immediately after the front shot, run back to the front. It's an absolutely shit attack with 3 massive-damage hits (laser, staff wave, ass).

It's easy as frick to deal with by just moving close and to the side so once it fires the ranged attack you move away from the body and dodge the aoe. moron.

The timing window for perfect parries is tight. Tighter on bosses. Always try to block early since it's better to take a bit of damage than to take a lot of damage. Repeatedly spamming the block button often doesn't work cause of how it is programmed, so just hold it instead of feathering it unless you actually hit the perfect parry, then you have to rehit it for the next one in a string.

You'll find that because blocking/parrying is a single action, it works very reliably and is relied on heavily, doubly so since blocking lets you heal up by attacking.
While it does take a lot of inspiration from Bloodborne, it stands on its own as you progress with all the layers of stuff it has.
Now I think I understand what they meant with this system. If I can't get the parry I should still go for the block and do the HP back attacks.
Lies of P parry window is 8 frames. For reference Sekiro is 12 frames. So you gotta really be on point with the timing.

The real problem is that the game's AI is fricktardedly aggressive, which makes it disgusting to play. There are ways to turn off the weird aggressive AI "boost" they added, making it actually quite fun.

The AI boost was something they added at a later stage of development. Basically every update has been scaling it back to some degree. Having played with and without, it was honestly a mistake. There are too few openings to punish enemies without learning perfect guard, and it presses players into a single form, which kind of sucks.
As other mechanics, especially for bosses, are wholly dependent on perfect guard, they were obviously counting on it to be a hit. They wouldn't have tied a lot of their more "innovative" features on it otherwise.
All I'm reading is opinions. It's fine that you don't like the system as it is but you speak like it's objective fact rather than your opinion

It IS objective fact that Neowiz tied their more "innovative" features to a reliance on the block and parry system. Weapon durability is actively nonsensical if you're attempting to play any other way, and breaking enemy weapons just doesn't happen.
They obviously wanted players to be herded into that one playstyle, and people didn't want to. Which makes sense, considering the variety that their competitors offer.

I noticed this in my playthrough. The AI of the bosses is particularly bad, leaving little to no opening to punish, and even some of the minibosses were so egregious in their attacks, especially compared to my stamina, that it just makes sense to hear that the enemy AI is fricked.
It's a dead giveaway that they continue to attack through your own, cancelling them out, and just mindlessly spam shit while you're in a corner. I'm gonna try tweaking the AI boost shit and see if that makes it gud

the easiest way is to download the AI boost off mod from nexus or wherever, and paste the folder where it tells you to. That does it for you, and makes it easy to undo, by just deleting that folder.
There are other mods on the page to make the enemies do less damage, but it makes the game too easy, imo

I hope they really step it up on the level design. my only real problem with the game. especially the last area, which was just a boring slog of endless hallways and ladders.
I hate this about myself but I liked the linear hallway levels way better than mazey stuff and backtracking. imo LOP got that aspect perfect. I just hope they make some more hard-but-fair bosses like Nameless and Victor, and stop doing the fricking 2-healthbar thing.
