I got spoiled that I'm at the haflway point of the game but so far, level design has been pretty great. No idea where this moronic talking point comes from, I have been surprised by an enemy just once and there a not only sidepaths but also alternative paths.

It's just a pretty good game. Maybe the best of these copycats, though it's not a very high bar. Like what, the last good Soulslike was...Surge 2 maybe? And this is much better than that.
I actually like it more than Sekiro, which will probably get me lynched here but I really disliked that Sekiro only had one weapon because it was still just a fromsoft weapon. Though honestly I won't blame Sekiro too much because when it was coming out I replayed DS 1/2/3 and so maybe I was a bit burnt out. Also could be recentcy bias, but I am just gonna say that FOR SURE it is the best Soulsclone I have played.
Sekiro is extremely overrated.
The gameplay is very tedious and repetitive, the arm weapons all feel like one-off gimmicks, most sword moves are pointless, and the level design is absolutely atrocious.
The only thing it has going for it is the story and setting, and some of the enemy designs are pretty cool, otherwise it's just a slog to play through.

Should I start with Dex, Strength, or Balanced? I just want to play what is fun. Dex could be dinky shit, or Strength could be too slow. Not entirely sure and I heard you can't respec until like 20 hours into the game.
Pure strength, always. Sissy.
You can swap out handles and change their scaling, so any non-boss weapon can be Dex or Strength or Balanced and even the head of a slow weapon can be put on a faster handle's moveset. If you're uncertain I always do a quality build first in these kind of games just so I try out as much stuff as possible.

Not looking at spoilers, but how arw you doing str/dex bros? I'm doing advance build cause I liked arcane in BB and it feels like easy mode. Physical weapons take ages to do damage. Do you buff with fire/bolt papers or are they too rare?

It looks like there aren't a ton of Advance-scaling weapons to choose from in the first place.
The fire dagger and the electric mace show up early, but most of the other Advance weapons seem to show up late game.
I might do that for a second playthrough, I had my eye on that flamethrower legion arm. Kind of wish this game had online/invasions just for longevity's sake but I could see shit getting really toxic/unbalanced with how customizable weapons are.
It ticks very slowly. Pretty bad. Aegis appears to be the only good one besides fulgrum/eagle/string which are pretty useful in the field only. Poison might be ok for large bosses if it poisons.
Legion Arms are shit for damage.
You're better off treating them as a utility option like the shield or the grappling hook.
What weapons are there for Advance, I've just found the electric mace.
It looks like there is two of every main damage type for Advance.
Electric: The mace you already have and an electrified version of the Bloodborne pizza cutter
Fire: Fire dagger and fire greatsword
Acid: Acid spear and acid curved greatsword
And you can obviously mix and match if you want a different type of weapon. Someone was saying that putting the fire dagger tip on a spear grip is pretty busted.
I'm just killing bosses effortlessly on a dex build with the black market throwables. It should be even more overpowered with an adv build.

Game has been fine. Levels are really easy and don't have much enemy variation though I guess Souls isn't exactly the contrary.
Boss of the factory was the hardest so far. Just beat Andreus who is pretty easy even though he's two life bars.

Kino fricking song and I think it's one of the first records you can get in the game. I was blown away with how good the singing was, hoping the rest of the OST is just as good.

Alright, I'm 18 hours in, I officially have 1 big complaint.
There's too goddamn many multi-phase bosses. When I delete a boss's healthbar, stop going "haha, little did you know that's only the FIRST of two bosses in a row, get fricked butthole!" No, if I knew that was gonna happen I'd be more stingy with my pulse charge usage. It's happened with 3 bosses now, and not once has the first boss of the duo not been a full-fledged boss in its own right.
Yeah i think specters are a mechanic to be utilized based on all the multi life bars. Bar 1 is just practice.

The npc's are hilarious, one of them is some german shepard asset, but they just took the dog head and put it on a human body, lmao. The weapon animations make no sense, like the giant monkey wrench weapon thrusts like a rapier rather than bonks like a hammer.

Remnant 2 is pretty good if you consider it a soulslike which you should. I've yet to play 1, but I will since I was pleasantly surprised at 2 being an actually fleshed out game that stands on its own
Remnant 2 is nothing like any souls game other than checkpoints reviving enemies. I played through it with a buddy and I thought it was fun but there are really not any other things soulslike about it... unless maybe you consider bosses give drops that let you craft a weapon or mod I guess.
The loot and equipment system is pretty much a souls game which sets it apart from other TPS and makes it not a looter shooter. Combat is also very much souls, it's all based on dodgerolls with iframes. Checkpoint reviving enemies is the other thing.
And yeah even the little things like fog doors and boss items are there, aswell as weapon upgrades... the only thing thats vastly different from souls games is how the campaign and coop works
And the combat? I mean the game is focused around guns with melee builds barely even being viable. And the entire leveling system is totally different as well, being based on classes with skills. The stat system is also much more like a traditional looter shooter than it is a souls game. Not to mention there are so many different ways to heal so it is not just a few spells or an estus though it does have something similar (but they are equipment you can change).
Oh yeah, I'd agree with you there actually, Remnant 2 is better than this game. It's kind of hard to compare them though since Remnant 2 is kind of doing its own thing. Remnant 1+DLC is still worth playing through I'd say, though it might be hard to go back to it after 2.
I dropped Remnant 1 at the final boss because that's where the game decided to filter melee users and where I truly learned it's meant to be a ranged game.
Yeah they really gotta stop throwing melee a bone unless they're actually going to make it properly viable by giving all flying bosses a "Moonlight Butterfly" moment where they come down within striking range. My friend really got soured on it in Remnant 2 by the time we reached N'Erud where everything is wide open.
I actually am the opposite, I disliked Remnant 2 and got bored of it so fast but I haven't been able to put down Lies of P, and now that I'm at the end I already feel like I'd want to replay it. Remnant gets so repetitive and I hate the procedural aspects of it, plus the shooting is so dry and the guns all look fricking stupid.

Yeah the most damning thing about this game is that you have to parry everything but none of the timings are really sensible. It's like trying to play an elden ring parry run as your first playthrough and every enemy has strange timings not unlike margit (but not quite AS bad) so the entire combat devolves into trial and error learning of timings

The shield arm basically gives you a 100% always parry for anything that isn't a red attack, but you take a tiny bit of damage anyway.

Past the two masked stalkers on the upper levels you can get into some pipes, there's a lever in a spot lit by red lights guarded by some enemies that you can pull to drain it.

Pretty sure this boss is more of a set piece. When you first get to this area the arena is filled with poison, so it might be a challenge in an "attrition" kind of way, but once you drain the poison it plays out like that. The Forge boss literally in the same area is an actual boss fight.

Aside from the Mad Puppet Clown this was the hardest enemy in the game for me.
The clown comes back later as a non-miniboss but he's way easier because now he just spams his extendo-fist which is the easiest thing to parry in the world so just keep doing that until he has a white bar, roll through his next punch and hit him with a charge attack after roll

One thing I wish they had done differently was the music. There's parts of the game where you'll hear some nice parade or jaunty french music in the background as part of the ambience, and the records you can find are similar, but the boss music is just fantastical orchestra. I would have liked for them to be more creative and have some fun music for the bosses, like crazy carnival music for the Parade Master or an industrial track for the forge boss.

The electric one? Best I can say it just try and get into the "groove" of his attacks. He telegraphs things pretty well, just be sure to be tapping the deflect button right before impact instead of tapping and holding too long. Second phase is just more of the same but keep an eye on the ground to position yourself out of the electricity.

Nice, good job! Finding the windows for charge attacks is really tricky against some enemies, but there are weapon handles with gap-closing charge attacks so you can use spacing to get in big hits with less risk.

Omegalul if this is true then it's a direct repeat of what happened during Sekiro's release. Parrying is probably better but isn't properly explained for some reason so everyone just ends up taking the game on Elder Scrolls style
I do all three. I dodge the least but there are attacks that you can dodge that leaves the enemy wide open usually. Parry is better than straight blocking because you can P-Organ into more Fable and damage on perfect block.

Is it safe to assume I need to invest in phase 3 P-Organ to unlock phase 4? Phase 3 kinda sucks while everything on phase 2 looks good. I'm at 30 hours and got to the end, haven't beat it yet though. The bosses have been surprisingly really good, and the weapon variety is nice, every weapon seems to have a different moveset.

the story and the areas are pretty cool, but the combat is EXHAUSTING. guard replenish is a cool idea, but perfect guard not functioning as a parry+riposte crit is a big miss imo, and lack of hyper armor for large weapons and player poise in general makes using STR builds with slow weapons feel like a self-own when every enemy in the game is a nigh-unstaggerable poiseblob that will combo you back to the Stargazer before you ever get another attack off if you whiff a swing or have the brazen audacity to try to chain hits.
