Life as a DPS is pure pain in every single game

I'm beyond tired of my queues being YEARS long, i want to play VIDEOGAMES for FUN not watch a number get to 60. What the frick.

Devs know this is an issue in EVERY GAME, yet instead of getting rid of tank, dps and healer roles and making everyone capable so queues don't take years they do the opposite

In FFXIV dps queues are only a couple of minutes longer than tank/healer for most content. On alliance raids it's actually harder to get in as a tank

because they require literally 5x as many dps as tanks

That's how you solve this problem, ffxiv got this right at least. Everyone wants to be a dps, so you tune the content for 5x as many dps as anything else, and even make the tanks/healers into pseudo-dps

I don't understand why tank/healer roles even need to exist. Pretty much everyone sees them as a job you need to do out of obligation, not a role anyone actually finds fun to play. If it's not fun, why bother? Frankly the entire concept of healing in video games is obnoxious to me. Why not just balance the game around not taking damage in the first place?

Controlling/saving the run can be very enjoyable, it's just not for everyone. I usually like playing supporting roles in these games

It's more satisfying to save someone by killing whatever is threatening them.

nah, saving someone by pulling them out of an AoE while you full heal another idiot from almost dying with an ogcd heal is naturally more fun than any dps

Healing is the most fun role pretty much always, but the fun scales with how good your party is, if your team is kinda shit, stuff gets chaotic and you're the only one able to take control of things

Hard disagree but I can't say you're wrong, it's like music taste.

Yeah, I'd put it like this
                >Healer
More reactive, have to pay attention to your team and their mistakes, your own mistakes can frick up the entire run very easily of you die
                >DPS
more focused on personal performance and not fricking up your rotation, less focus on your team and more on the enemy to optimize your damage

i like the higher personal responsibility and pressure

You can't do that in FF14 for a while now though.

I can in old content, current extremes, and rarely in a low savage floor like p9s. But yeah sadly it's all binary bodychecks in the higher savage floors and beyond, there's no healer agency.

                Which old content
Ever since the stat squish even ARR (hard) dungeon gimmicks are no longer insta kills
Nobody dies to anything these days, only a couple of exceptions like Holminister and Bardam big pulls.
I just want to heal again...

                >Which old content
                Within the last month:
I did two omega savage fights synced
                Ravana Ex MINE
                Nidhogg Ex in mentor roulette
                Sephirot Ex in mentor roulette
                Titan Ex in mentor roulette
That omega normal with "The Guardian" often goes south if the party is unfamiliar
                Yojimbo lv70 trial

When the sprouts say "damn thanks for the carry" "good heals" "ty for rescue" "good recovery" at the end of the duty, it feels great

                >Ravana and Nidhogg EX pop
                What the FRICK
I got a free trial at the end of HW, guess I'm levelling up WHM and queing EXs.
Last 3 times I queued EX tho, it was me, 2 mentors and the rest also free trials
We just one shot everything even undergeared because I think the FT players that actually queue ARR EXs are fricking autistic and don't frick around. Which is great unless you're a healer wanting things to go wrong lmao.

The Ravana was PF, that's your best bet for getting them to pop. But yeah I do have the rare lucky day when I get pulled into an extreme instead of Syrcus Tower or Under the Armour.

                >We just one shot everything even undergeared because I think the FT players that actually queue ARR EXs are fricking autistic and don't frick around.
For early-expansion extremes (e.g. ravana, thordan) the sync is extremely generous, and I think you even start with echo so you can just fail mechanics and tank the damage. For late-expansion ones (e.g. sephirot, zurvan) it's a lot closer to playing at min-ilvl.
A lot of the ARR and HW extremes are great fights, so have fun. Just avoid Bismarck, that one is complete dogshit

healing is fun because you get to control who lives and dies
and in PVP my almonds activate and i enjoy having people fail in trying to kill me because i dont heal others

            different strokes
i come from early FFXI, where you actually relied on supports to not get melted
mained BRD, had to pull, sleep and keep pt buffed without any breaks in between fights to keep chain up
shit was fun, and I was very useful and never felt less important than the DPS

It's just the kind of combat that MMOs tend to have. You and the enemy kick at each other's shins and because you are the player, you win as long as you avoid the orange circles.
You WILL take damage. It is unavoidable. Therefore you need someone in your party who takes the most damage and someone in the party who can heal the damage.
No one has made an mmo with a proper action combat system because WoW was profitable and copying WoW is also profitable. And WoW combat is the way that it is because it attempted to be a real-time translation of RPG mechanics. Also consider that internet connections weren't so good back in the day, so they needed something that would work in high-latency conditions.
Maybe one day MMOs will start innovating again, and we'll start seeing games where all Roles deal damage and classes are specialized because they take advantage of the game's unique mechanics, but for now the closest you'll get are pseudo-mmos like Destiny or Monster Hunter.

Haven't healed high-end content, but tanking is extremely boring in ffxiv. You're a blue dps with 1-2-3 rotation with hardly any agency. Wow was better at that in wotlk - you had your own cooldowns, externals and raid-wide utilities.

Dungeons are horrendous in ffxiv and they keep getting worse. High-end is where the jobs shine. Healing a dungeon you have 5x as many buttons as you need to keep the tank alive unless they're really dogshit, but in savages you can actually find reason to utilise your whole kit

            >Haven't healed high-end content

it's the most braindead thing imaginable. Imagine seeing 30 health bars covering half your screen as you fingerfrick macros as your teammates do all the work and you stand there occasionally telling dps or tank you need to get more mana

Because dungeons, trials and Normal raids are all tuned so the most casual of players can clear.
Trial Extreme, Savage raids, Criterion dungeon, Deep Dungeons and finally Ultimates are where you truly learn how to utilise your job and specific class.

People like playing damage dealer? We hear you. But what if we forced people to play 2 tanks and 2 healers. Or better yet, 2 healers and ONE tank.

Accept that you're a tag-along and healers and tanks are infinitely more important than you. The price you pay for the convenience of not having to put any effort is that you have to wait a little longer.

DPS has an upper limit, tank and healer do not. If you want an antisocial social game, play PvP slop. There is HP and there is DPS, you can have gorillion DPS but zero HP it doesn't fricking matter.

Issue is combat becomes literal garbage without holy trinity and they offset not having tank/healer roles with a shit load of unfun mechanics, a limited heal and constant 1 shot mechanics mixed with homosexual "rez your buddy in 10 secs or he dies!" mechanics

Then why the frick are you playing an MMO? Nothing but slightly more complex cow clickers designed to keep morons occupied with meaningless tasks.
