Who says they actually want to make it not boring? It's just the same "dude exploration" bullshit again, except that they canned space travel and reskinned ships to look like dragons. The issue with NMS is that despite all the content they added over the years, the core loop basically never changed. It just gets bigger. Wide as an ocean, deep as a puddle is the perfect description here and I'd argue that this will have the exact same issues.
Nobody has done a full planet in real scale. if they can pull it off it's gonna be an achievement, no matter how shit the gameplay loop is and I respect them for it.
They have, the problem is you have to use procedural generation. And once you've seen how it gets generated, it's nothing but same old same old from then on. True of NMS, Starfield, Elite Dangerous, even back to shit like Daggerfall and the Derek Smart games
>it's nothing but same old same old from then on
homie procedural generation has advanced a frick ton since NMS, have you not seen Star Citizen engine? that shit is insane, it makes entire cities with almost hand crafted details along npcs and gameplay on the go, I'm pretty sure the NMS devs have some new tech to pull a interactive planet size map
can't build
have like 1m=1px resolution, in game it's like 0.1cm=1px
exploring a flat map from above and a planet while on it is not the same.
They have, the problem is you have to use procedural generation. And once you've seen how it gets generated, it's nothing but same old same old from then on. True of NMS, Starfield, Elite Dangerous, even back to shit like Daggerfall and the Derek Smart games
who has done a full scale planet?
Yes, it's procedural, but they forced custom stuff like caves and biomes.
It doesn't matter how it gets generated. gamers don't care about how magic is made. they just want to experience the magic.
Elite Dangerous, though they're barren so I guess it doesn't count as much. Again, I think they did in the Derek Smart games (Earth included), but they were terribly uninteresting
>OH MY SOI is that a boundless map with procedurally generated crap in it? OUT OF MY WAY CHUDS, I NEED TO ASK MY WIFE'S SOON PERMISSION TO USE MY ALLOWANCE MONEY TO PREORDER IT!
the thing that really sucks is, it seems like all of the systems they added have the potential to be cool, if they would bother developing any of them even a little bit
The systems ARE cool and developed enough, it’s a genuinely fun game and you should try playing it instead of listening to the naysaying Black folk here who hate everything.
Yeah and it's a real shame that all of them except base building are barebones and barely interact with each other if at all. My breaking point was discovering Settlements don't let you place buildings or manage them but instead are just a very shitty mobile game where you wait for timers to pass even though they have base building mechanics already in the game. If mobile gameplay is the best they can do at least they could've copied Clash of Clans or something with actual base building, but we got anti-gameplay instead
i wonder, one of the marketing pitches of Kingdom Come Deliverance was that it was modeled with real life distances in mind, have anyone felt boredom traveling in this game in hardcore mode?
If there's one thing I wish more of these types of big world survivalcraft games would do, it's allowing the player to control an entire party of characters that you can order to act independently and also assume direct control.
Like Kenshi, you could have characters on all corners of the island doing things at once, and switch between them at will.
That handles the potential tedium and downtime of travel by letting NPCs handle the trek (far less efficient/slower than the player hopping around, also put them at risk of encounters and running low on supplies when you aren't supervising them) while you manage shit elsewhere. It would also be the ultimate form of expanding your scope, making spreading out and have genuine supply lines actually valuable as opposed to virtually every survivalcraft game making your lone survivor bunker down and build/hoard everything on a single hill.
From the trailer it looks like the same engine as NMS so I imagine they'll be able to port most features across. Base building, tameable monsters, etc. The question is whether they'll be able to give players a compelling reason to keep playing beyond seeing pretty environments.
Doubt it'll collapse under the weight of its own ambition like NMS did. It literally looks like a fantasy reskin of the same game, as if they put in the bare minimum in order to make this a new game.
>No Man's Sky is apparently this amazing game now it's totally not garbage >Never see any gameplay posted >Cyberpunk 2077 is apparently this amazing game now they fixed the bugs >Never see any gameplay posted >Baldur's Gate 3 is GOTY Larian really blew everyone's mind >Never see any gameplay posted
You don't come to Ganker to talk about games anymore, you come here to complain, bait or shitpost. Been that way for several years now, at the minimum.
tbh it's a pain in the ass to post videos on Ganker
4mb is just not enough and i bet the chink would declare bankruptcy or starting plastering blacked ads everywhere for +1mb file size limit
even so to be truly open world would mean no boundaries. so you could have a planet sized map but the edges would have to lead into each other like a real life planet
it wraps, is my guess (like an actual planet)
aka a "wrapping."
not sure how planets work in NMS but if they already have that tech it would be easy for them
They do work like that in NMS, you can literally fly or walk around them real time with no loading screens. You can also do extensive terraforming (for the industry standards) but there are limits how far you can dig underground and how high you can build.
That however does kinda cast shadow to what the "first" part is about then.
Maybe literally allowing players to dig tunnel directly trough planets core and come out the opposite side?
>create an entire planet >mountains are actually massive like in real life
I'm fricking digging this >you fly around in a dragon
Well, there goes all my hype, the entire excitement about feeling insignificant instantly gone.
anon the map will be the size of a planet, you don't go walking from NY to LA right? what if it takes actual real life days to go from one point to another?
>0.0000001 seconds of combat and actual gameplay >97 hours of painfully slow walking, slow riding LE EPIC MOUNT, and generic building
why are modern games like this
>create a dumpsterfire >everyone gets annoyed at how bad it stinks >put it out >everyone applauds and thanks you for being so brave as to extinguish the fire you set
I will never forgive IH for painting this shit in a positive light.
He didn't set out to make a dumpster fire and most developers never would have cleaned up that mess. They would have just cut their losses and move on to another project.
Its kind of eye opening how much people parrot ecelebs from this shit.
No you Black folk the game STILL isnt good
Its a really shitty minecraft game now, the exploration is goddamn gone since theres no point to exploration anymore
The way you make this interesting is locking stuff to certain regions. One region may only have grey stone, red dye, and sapphire. Meanwhile the neighboring region may have orange rocks, blue dye, and rubies. It creates an incentive for trade and building roads and such.
I'm so fricking sick of live service multiplayer games. When will this fad ever stop? There is literally a lower than 1% chance this game will be good or run well.
Light a fire
they won with no mans sky, they will win again
Is there anything he cant do?
Tell the whole truth initially
Make a good game.
Only time will tell but I mean who doesn't like a good train wreck story?
>won
Their support is admirable but it's still a far cry from the game they advertised, where every single aspect was to be procedural.
How exactly are they going to make long traveling not boring? I already want to kill myself when sailing in Valheim.
But you can look at all the pretty precedurally generated foliage!
Game has ridable dragons
Who says they actually want to make it not boring? It's just the same "dude exploration" bullshit again, except that they canned space travel and reskinned ships to look like dragons. I'll believe it when I see it, and yes I've seen star citizen. It's all prefabs
>google earth
you can explore it too
they also have the moon and mars
Microsoft flight sim aswell
can't build
have like 1m=1px resolution, in game it's like 0.1cm=1px

You forgot it took them years to be as wide as an ocean, when it released it puddle deep and puddle wide
the thing that really sucks is, it seems like all of the systems they added have the potential to be cool, if they would bother developing any of them even a little bit

very interesting
Just be more efficient dip shit.
They are cooking another dumpter fire I see.
looks like a NMS mod with some texture work.
How will they top the amazing shooting rocks gameplay from their previous game?
He missed the opportunity to name it No Man's Land
let sean cook
looks cozy
he's a good dev
sony is just a horrible publisher
oh no, someone stop him!
>beating bethesda to skyrim 2
holy based, what an epic play
>that cringe as frick music
nah im good.
valheim but good?

Do you guys think he learned anything from No Man's Sky or will this be another engoodening project of his?
He learned he can release a mess and get people to forgive him as long as he hires the right youtuber to shill his shit after a year or so
oy vey
looks generic honestly, at least NMS had some ambitions
Looks ok, I'm gonna keep an watch on it but I'm not holding it up as anything special yet
>No Man's Sky is apparently this amazing game now it's totally not garbage
>Never see any gameplay posted
>Cyberpunk 2077 is apparently this amazing game now they fixed the bugs
>Never see any gameplay posted
>Baldur's Gate 3 is GOTY Larian really blew everyone's mind
>Never see any gameplay posted
Maybe play the games?
To be fair I hardly see any gameplay posted of any games these days.
Nobody here plays games, of course you won't see gameplay here lmao
Can you name a single game that gets gameplay posted here you stupid frick?
You have a point with No Man's Sky and that's it.
If you want to watch gameplay go ahead and open Youtube, this is a place for discussing them
You want me to link my cyberpunk stream you dumb frick
Nobody here plays games, there is only endless complaining about people that do.
CRPG combat isn't webm worthy, people also don't post their sick clips of disco elysium conversations and that game is discussed all the time here.
take up the groceries in 1 trip?
Find us one (1) game that has it's gameplay posted on /vee/.
Lets see how old that footage is and how long it's going to take you to find it.
You don't come to Ganker to talk about games anymore, you come here to complain, bait or shitpost. Been that way for several years now, at the minimum.

4mb is just not enough and i bet the chink would declare bankruptcy or starting plastering blacked ads everywhere for +1mb file size limit
i think some people view game devs as gods
It's the ultimate Faustian bargain and people always fall for it
What happens if you light a fire
>cringe contemporary music
>furshit
>no cute girls
No thank you.
You have to burn the rope.
This studio not being 6 feet under is genuinely upsetting
>no space shit
I'm buying your game.
It really is happening again
what did he mean by this
If you die in the game you die in real life.
it wraps, is my guess (like an actual planet)
he's making real life
the real answer is the game world will be the size of the real Earth. Meaning traveling around it will take months, etc
even so to be truly open world would mean no boundaries. so you could have a planet sized map but the edges would have to lead into each other like a real life planet
aka a "wrapping."
not sure how planets work in NMS but if they already have that tech it would be easy for them

creatividad bros wtf
Call me when its engoodened.
How much of this is bullshit though?? NmS is hideous to gaze upon. This will be the same??? Also no giga titty slider, no purchase.
all of it is bullshit you fricking moron
Can't believe zoomers are going to fall for scams like this just like millennials did with Molyneux.
>create an entire planet
>mountains are actually massive like in real life
I'm fricking digging this
>you fly around in a dragon
Well, there goes all my hype, the entire excitement about feeling insignificant instantly gone.
Which is why you just don't use the dragon thing and just walk/ride around on horse equivalent.
>just don't use the intended thing
anon the map will be the size of a planet, you don't go walking from NY to LA right? what if it takes actual real life days to go from one point to another?
Todd Howard 2.0
I can’t really hate this guy anymore after Starfailed. He made Todd his b***h forever.
>0.0000001 seconds of combat and actual gameplay
>97 hours of painfully slow walking, slow riding LE EPIC MOUNT, and generic building
why are modern games like this
Combat is dogshit in NMS, and this just looks the same
Dont let him speak to journalists
People arent falling for it again are they?
This is so much more my aesthetic than NMS, looking forward to it
I'm not particularly interested in it, but if they did learn their lessons from No Man's Sky, it will probably be fine.
This could potentially be what Cube World was trying to be and then some
>create a dumpsterfire
>everyone gets annoyed at how bad it stinks
>put it out
>everyone applauds and thanks you for being so brave as to extinguish the fire you set
I will never forgive IH for painting this shit in a positive light.

...so has he thanked Internet Historian yet for singlehandedly restoring public internet opinion on him?
Sweet
frickin lel
sean's a real one
He will lie, chuds will cry, i will buy. Simple as.
Chuds?
>the first real open world
What did he mean by this?
>the work of one who consorts with beasts
>HE CANT KEEP GETTING AWAY WITH IT?
Frick it, I'll support him, he redeemed himself with no man's sky dlc's over and over again, so there's no reason to not trust him.
>he redeemed himself
cuz your eceleb told so?
fricking go back
never noticed how weird his teeth are
For me it's the anthro characters, why don't they make more games with walking, talking animals?
THIS TIME WILL BE GOOD, HE CHANGED HIS GAME WILL BE GOOD NOW
I'm hoping he learned from NMS but it'd be funny if it turned out to be an even bigger trash fire than before
murray if we're able to romance the bnuuy and wolf women as a human male character then all of your past sins will be completely resolved
I'm so fricking sick of live service multiplayer games. When will this fad ever stop? There is literally a lower than 1% chance this game will be good or run well.
Looks like generic survival crafting slop
When will devs stop making shinier Minecraft
