    Saving the yakuza bread.

I finished the story a few days ago, and I’m currently tackling Dondoko. I was right in guessing it would’ve eaten a huge chunk of my time and is better reserved for premium adventure, it’s strangely addictive.

      Anonymous

idk, it's fun the first time through but it becomes stale once you're done with the campaign, plus online is mostly the same minmax urban hellscape. Same with Sujimans.

        Anonymous

Eh, that’s how it is with every Yakuza series minigame, unfortunately. After their dedicated storyline is completed, it’s simply no longer as engaging as before.

With that said, integrating Sujimon with Dondoko was a smart decision.

          >integrating Sujimon with Dondoko was a smart decision.
I don't understand why they have to pause the farm when you exit the island. Seemed like the perfect place to make use of your high-friendship but weaker Sujimon.

Wait, really? Guess it’s to prevent exploits or bugs, but that’s a disappointment. I was willing to build a Sujimon team based on my favorite designs, because the Kiwami and Gold Sujimon are just too over the top.

Have you done Joker's gym yet? Sodachi and 2(or 3?) other Silvers can be promoted to their Gold-rank Murderous Heat forms They'll still be outclassed by Kiwami/DLC ones, and you kinda need the Kiwamis if you're ever using Sujimancer in late game.

Sujimancer is pretty unusable even with all the Kiwamis. Honestly what a waste of a class that should've been cool.

Oh, I’ve done literally everything related to Sujimon, but I genuinely don’t like how the Kiwami Sujimon look. I miss having the Silver Sujimon team because they have unique designs.

It becomes complete garbage once you realize decorating your town how you want it is unviable. You need to plop down the highest value buildings in all three sections you're gonna use and that's it. Actually decorating anything means your guests are going to the low value items, meaning they become less happy, meaning you get worse ratings from them at the end. It's better to stick a statue that's like 16x20 and gives one of the stats than use 1x1 objects 16 times. You also have to dedicate a part of the island just to the passive buildings so it becomes a dumping ground for your stuff.

      [...]

I mean, everything Kiryu talks about during it makes no sense because he implies the Amon are after him for besmirching their name when they're after him because he's the only one to have ever survived an assassination attempt. It's a half truth. It also makes zero sense because Shin was working with him in 7 but now Jo hates him again in 8? Why does Jo look like Shin? Are they gonna stalk him outside of his hospital bed to kill him since they won't let cancer do it? Jo had autism and refused to let Kiryu die after he realized he still had it in him so what happens after everything later in the game? Is he gonna pull a Daidoji and have Amon agents sitting outside the orphanage to pick him off?

Aw man, really? I thought people making mini-Kamurocho for their islands was just an account for their shit taste, but this paints a much clearer picture. The fact all the rich guests demand “extremely sleazy/elegant/rustic” should’ve made it obvious to me.

I’m only 3-stars now, but I had plans to make the top part sleazy/elegant, bottom part rustic/pop. Now I’m not sure if I can make it work.

No. You don't need to even "Aloha" them unless you want to. Campfires will make it a bit more reliable if you've got a spotty area on the map you have people on.

how is your resort setup? do you spam satisfaction displays by sections or mix them up?

Most buildings seem to only have a slot for 1 user at a time, so if you want them to jerk off OR spend money then the ideal is to spam small statues OR vending machines respectively along the road. At least 1 for each guest in the area, they don't seem to like crossing areas.

Look at the minimap, these sheeple would rather line up at the vending machines next to their cabin all day than explore elsewhere on the island.

Am I dumb for putting on too many high ranked buildings on one section? Like I put like two carbarets and love hotels near each other

Doesn't matter as long as you meet the theme requirements and satisfaction metric. Interactable furnishings you put along road is only for maximizing passive guest happiness or income gains. (which is obsolete by chapter 8 or so anyway)

You just need to meet the sleazy/elegant/rustic/pop metrics to satisfy the guests. The layout doesn't matter. If you haven't reach the style requirement, then plop some statues or benches with the "satisfaction UP" tag. The style doesn't matter, your guests will still use them to jerk off themselves to satisfaction.

I wanted extra income for my maxed island so mine only has "dokobucks UP" furnishings connected to the road. Not optimal because you still need the campfire to bring S-rank guests to full satisfaction levels.

            Anonymous

Does it really not matter? I’ve popped some guests in the relatively barren northern area that just has four buildings, and the remaining guests were placed in the southern area that’s full to the brim with satisfaction/dondoko bucks items, and I can tell the north guests are slightly less satisfied than the south, but they’re still happy by checkout time.

Guess I’ll just put some more satisfaction furniture around.

and also boost the style it's under so you'll still want to craft them. It's just that they aren't that optimal for your guests to interact with so you may want to cordon them off the path, into your island's own District Five.

The big buildings give enormous Satisfaction and Popularity when used.

I don't see why you'd use the vending machines or statues. The benefit you gain from them is extremely low and compared to a building it's night and day. Not to mention everyone just wanders off to the next open building so having them walk like two feet to gain 5x the benefit seems like a better deal than having them constantly occupying vending machines and statues.

You mixing up the "Satisfaction" stat and the guest "Satisfaction" or rather their happiness, i.e. the 🙂 🙁 face icon.

The stat along with popularity is needed to progress the island which is why you craft them. It does not affect the happiness of the guests directly.

Happiness is increased when the guest uses the furnishing, you'll see a message saying "guest was satisfied with XXX" and is equivalent to your daily greeting/gifting. As far as I can tell, the happiness/money gain from a small statue is equivalent to a large building regardless of the furnishing's stats. This means you can get the same Happiness (or money) with less path space using smaller furnishings. Less paths = more space to squeeze in your commieblocks = more stats without diminishing your guests' happiness.

Yeah, that's what I mean. As far as I could tell the big buildings net you more than the smaller objects. It seems to take it from your island rating paired with the object they're interacting with. I have a bunch of cars and the gold statues lined up next to each other and the people I stick in that region tend to underperform compared to people by the entrance who will be maxed out just from buildings like half a day before the guys where I have cars and statues.

.....did you join the length of the cars against the road? They are about the length as smaller buildings and are also 1 slot, so.

                Moose

I have them vertically so they're basically 3x6 or whatever it is with the front facing the road. People will stop by them then walk like two feet to see another one and repeat with everything along that road. It's still worse than putting a handful of buildings next to each other from my experience, I just did it because I couldn't fit buildings in that area.

That's the thing, they're also along with the statues because they occupy more or less the same amount of width. The Majima/Ichiban/Kiryu/Gachapin/Mukku statues all gain points, but it still doesn't seem as much as someone wandering from one building to another.

          >but I had plans to make the top part sleazy/elegant, bottom part rustic/pop. Now I’m not sure if I can make it work.
Unless you stick people who just want those attributes in those areas it isn't gonna work, and even if they prefer something they still go to other buildings. It's really really hard to piss a guest off so much that they're not at least tier 2 unless you intentionally stick them in an area with nothing in it.

While what he said is true, I just decorated my island however the frick I wanted throughout the whole thing and never had a guest leave unsatisfied once. I'm pretty sure you can do your thing and be completely fine

The guests won't leave unsatisfied but you're not gonna max them out unless you're making commieblocks meaning less Dokobucks in the end along with less EXP for that character.

          a bit late but anyway:
he is right in some ways, the fastest and easiest way to upgrade your island is to shove big smile burger tier building and chain kamurocho arc entrances, but you have 3 giant places to build an most people barely use one for efficiency, if you build however you want you can, it would just take more than 20 days to max it out
          > but I had plans to make the top part sleazy/elegant, bottom part rustic/pop. Now I’m not sure if I can make it work.
it's not a matter of "balance" or anything, each category has a cap and raising one won't reduce the other, you'll be fine.

Night Queen or Assassin for Seonhee? I can craft the ultimate weapon for both but I can't decide

      Moose

Housekeeper or Geodancer. If you absolutely have to use a physical class then use Night Queen, but there's no reason not to put Seonhee and Chitose as one of those two.

        Anonymous

You sure? Assassin has an interesting weapon. Applies cold and charm. Looks much better than NQueen's?

          Moose

Night Queen's stats are better in terms of damage, its ultimate weapon can instakill the lower their health is (Assuming they're not immune to Death), and its ultimate outfit grants you MP on a kill while also giving you +20 ATK. I believe Seonhee's exclusive outfit gives AGI on kills so that would probably be better. Sure, Assassin gives her more AGI but its moveset is complete trash in comparison to Night Queen and several skills require you to be behind an enemy to even gain full advantage of said moves. Night Queen also has good ranged attacks and mobbing attacks in addition to charm capabilities from her best moves.

I would still advise you to opt for Housekeeper or Geodancer though. Bubble Bale is absurdly good, the ultimate weapons and stats buff magic damage even higher, and the AGI both Seonhee and Chitose have is absurd.

Tennis Ace if you have the DLC.

          [...]
Saeko is the better Geodancer. Maybe housekeeper since Seonhee has the only elec magic skill on the female side.

Saeko is bench fodder due to her AGI and 90% of the time the girls are doing one of four things:
          >Bubble Bale
          >Scum Scraper
          >Noisy Racket
          >Substitution Jutsu
I don't see why you'd use Saeko at all once you're in PA for example. Prior to PA she's "The second girl" so it makes sense at least.

            >and the AGI both Seonhee and Chitose have is absurd.
That's why you have Seonhee as a kunoichi or tennis ace for max AGI and substitution prostitution, you dumb dumb.

            >Seonhee is more speed oriented
Yes, that's the point. Getting two Bubble Bales off before anyone can even move is worth far more to a general encounter than something like Spinning Queen. Then when you get to the 1v1s Grand Slam, Wicked Wall Drills, or Rapid-Fire Rally are fine, but you can also just pass that off to Ichiban (Who is in Aquanaut to ignore all resistances), Zhao (Who is in Gangster to ignore all resistances), or Kiryu (Who will outdamage any of the girls in physical attacks in Action Star or Desperado).

There's no real situation where keeping the girls in a physical moveset is worth it because all their best movesets are magic-oriented. Kunoichi is Musician but not as bad, Assassin's moves and spread are so-so, Night Queen is a good damage dealer but you're dealing less than their magic moves. It just doesn't make sense. Chitose and Seonhee are already moving multiple turns as it is.

            [...]

Moose-kun, no way, Geodancer and Housekeeper are better for the other two. Seonhee is more speed oriented, so wasting her on the magic/healing jobs is a colossal waste.

          Moose

          >I would still advise you to opt for Housekeeper or Geodancer though. Bubble Bale is absurdly good, the ultimate weapons and stats buff magic damage even higher, and the AGI both Seonhee and Chitose have is absurd.
I already use cheetos and saeko as geodancers.

          Then make her a Housekeeper.

            >Ichiban
Aquanaut is indeed very good, but I’ll say that it’s still fine to keep him in Hero because his fully upgraded weapon still deals tons of damage AND applies to all blunt skills.
            >Seonhee
I have her in Assassin or Kunoichi. With the ultimate Assassin weapon branded to increase success of restrictive status, charm and paralysis are MUCH more likely to occur. Or, you could go with the buff + substitution build for Kunoichi to make Kiryu and Zhao sweep everyone.

I gave Seonhee all the magic skills in Housemaid since she’s always the first to move, and she can immediately remove the enemy’s buffs.

Housekeeper or Geodancer. If you absolutely have to use a physical class then use Night Queen, but there's no reason not to put Seonhee and Chitose as one of those two.

Grapple paired with the Frost element which many enemies are weak to. Blunt (Or whatever you want to call the fist) is just a neutral typing nothing is weak to. It's also extremely rare that more than one enemy is ever buffed, and when that happens it's usually some weak fodder that got crit buffed at best.

      >Ichiban

      >because his fully upgraded weapon still deals tons of damage AND applies to all blunt skills.
Sure, but Aquanaut grants you a damage buff at full health which is incredibly easy to stay at and I believe a +50 deals more damage. Hero also means you can't ignore resistances because you can't wear the armor. There's just no point to be Hero because True Hero's Armor is worse than the Aquanaut outfit.
      >Dude, no
You haven't used DoD enough if you're arguing this. A back attack spin at 10 Body at level 60 with a DoD over 30 is only like 600-800 damage. You will deal more damage with potential weakness exploitation with Burning Arrow, and you're not stuck dropping your AGI to the ground by going into Beast. Beast is an abysmally terrible style because of the AGI drop. This is completely ignoring that you have no ultimate weapon to work off of for passives which drops your damage further into the ground.

      >and the AGI both Seonhee and Chitose have is absurd.
That's why you have Seonhee as a kunoichi or tennis ace for max AGI and substitution prostitution, you dumb dumb.

Yeah, you can do that if you want, but that's if you just want them as Substitution bawds. If you want them as usable members it's better to be using magic.
      >Why use two subpar bubble bales when Geodancer Saeko can wipe the floor with just one?
Because Saeko would require you to Substitute to her since she's middle of the road in speed so she'll never go first when everyone is grouped up, and you can typically clear an entire group with a Seonhee in Geodancer or Housekeeper herself while also moving more.

        >Aquanaut grants you a damage buff at full health which is incredibly easy to stay at and I believe a +50 deals more damage.
Yeah, I’m not arguing with that. It’s just that hero seems more versatile and delivers much better electric damage. I always have Tomizawa with me since the charm that the final boss drops massively boosts all magic damage, which synergizes perfectly with his unique armor that increases damage to enemy weakness. Fire Arrow becomes fricking ridiculous.
        >You haven't used DoD enough if you're arguing this. A back attack spin at 10 Body at level 60 with a DoD over 30 is only like 600-800 damage.
Dude, I get over 2000 damage with it at level 60 and Body 10. I get its agility is bad and I can’t parry with it, but the rest of the party picks up the slack in the rare occasion Kiryu doesn’t do enough damage.

Moreover on Tomi: not only is his ultimate weapon ridiculously good, he trivializes everyone else if you brand it with the Blaze - Frost - Shock EX boosters. I had to make him a mortal again by having his magic crit instead, which is still ridiculous when it procs.

For a normal average joe, Tomizawa’s a GOD of magic.

How? I can go to guys 30 levels below me who are also super squishy enemy variants and not even deal that much with the +DMG. If I fight stuff in the 50s I'm only dealing 600-800 damage if I do that and also massively nerfing my AGI to unusable levels. If I use Rush I'm only dealing 400-600ish to guys 30 levels below me. If I go to DoD I'm dealing 800ish to guys 30 below me. This is with his True Dragon Outfit equipped too.

Cheetos maybe, if you want her to deal damage, but she has unique value at spamming her mass agi debuff and debuff-clearing heal.

For Seonhee, you're missing out on her back attack, autocrit gun skills. That's the real reason you should have her as a physical dmg dealer, preferably Tennis Ace so you can give her all the gun brands and accessory.

Moreover on Tomi: not only is his ultimate weapon ridiculously good, he trivializes everyone else if you brand it with the Blaze - Frost - Shock EX boosters. I had to make him a mortal again by having his magic crit instead, which is still ridiculous when it procs.

Cabbie tomi carried Kasuga's finale for me, but I've since switched him to Chef for Big Swell. Chef has higher attack+magic stats and the skill dmg boost. Fusee Doozy and Cutley Crash can hit for 3k on weaknesses. Less MP and increased MP costs is becoming a minor problem though, maybe I'll switch him back.

          >For Seonhee, you're missing out on her back attack, autocrit gun skills.

Use Bubble Bale and deal more damage in an even larger range.
          >gun coverage and single target one if used as a back attack deletes most enemies
Again, you need to position yourself to their back in the first place. Why even bother with this when the damage isn't going to be any crazier than had I used Scum Scraper? Hell, sticking Blossoming 'Uli'uli is an even better option because it's a 100% chance to hit and deals like 1500 damage, or you can go lower for the Kumu Hula Corkscrew for like 1300 and lower WIL allowing your magic to deal even more.
          >blade coverage
Yeah, and how many enemies are actually weak to blades let alone something as weak as Empress Claw?
          >grab
          Scum Scrubber.
          >muh "don't use Adachi as Enforcer" motherfricker he's the tankiest character in 7
I never said don't use Adachi as Enforcer since that is his best job, I said don't use Adachi at all. On Normal he serves no purpose because you never need to tank anything. On Legend he dies in two hits like literally every other character in the game so he can't tank anything meaning you're just gimping yourself. You will never once take advantage of that fact because you take so little damage everyone is basically a tank. As an attacker he's objectively one of the worst as any male, even Nanba, is better suited to using Enforcer than he is because they'll actually attack more than once per full moon, and Han is the best Enforcer because of his AGI.

I actually forgot to do the ex dungeon before Ichiban's finale. Who's the boss?

Robo Michio Sentai. They're easier than the 1v1.

It's not that hard to get a backstab, you can do it from range even with Joongi's knife version. Regardless, that's why you give her substitution prostitution so she can trade her turn when she can't backstab. You're not thinking big enough.
            >Why even bother when Bubble Bale or Scum Scrubber will generally deal more damage than that without setup?

              >It's not that hard to get a backstab
It's a complete coin toss if guys are gonna face you or not and if you can reposition yourself. More often than not you're not gonna have access to a back.
              >Easy 3K dmg for 15MP. 'nuff said.
What game are you guys playing? Seriously. This is a level 27 Assassin with an unupgraded ultimate weapon against an enemy 26 levels below me. It took four full turns passing just to actually get a position to do this at all and this was the damage. A +50 even with the gun damage buff is going to be like 300-400ish damage more which is only edging out either of Geodancer's neutral magics that require no setup at all by like 300 damage, and that's when I have no upgrades to my maracas at all.

It's a pain in the ass and requires a bunch of steps to do, but yes. As you can see Saeko was only 42 and the rest of my crew was only in the very early 50s.
              >You always have to have a minimum of two defense debuffs on him otherwise you only deal 1 damage.
              >The fight needs to start with at least one Leaping Gazelle and you need to get more of those than punch combos throughout the fight.
              >When he does buff his AGI you have to Scum Scrape it at tier 2 and 3 while ignoring it in tier 1 because it only starts being an issue in tiers 2 and 3.
              >You have to regularly ignore healing party members and just hope he pivots to someone with more health, but he's also seemingly programmed to do that and you can force him to target someone by attacking him with that character.
              >You need every single healing item Kashiwagi/Wesker can craft for you because they're the only way to do full party heals of HP and MP without using skills (I didn't have Geodancer at 24 on either girl yet).
              >You need at least one girl to have Substitution Jutsu, preferably both.
              >Both girls need to be either Kunoichi or Tennis Aces.
              >One girl needs to be a Tennis Ace so you get the most out of Wicked Wall Drills as that's the best way to deal damage in that fight from my experience.
              >Generally you have Nanba spamming Malodorous Stench or the girls using Noisy Racket.
              >Kiryu exists only to Poundmate, heal, and attack when he doesn't need to heal.
Webm took me like three hours of attempts and over a dozen returns to Hello Work to try and formulate a plan, and in the winning run Saeko didn't have Substitution Jutsu which would have helped.

Wait, whoops, bad memory. I had Geodancer at 24 but when I tried it the full heal didn't fully heal, it only did like 750 so I scrapped that idea since I didn't have anyone's bonds at 100 to pass it over and even if I did it was better to use items.

An easy way to get him to spawn is to take the taxi to Lotus St. and run to Pearl Ave and tun the length of it until you reach the weapon shop on the corner then take the taxi back and repeat.
Another way is to take that same taxi, run down Pearl Ave. to the weapon shop, then run down all of Downtown St. until you reach the SS charger, then turn around and ride back to the taxi location, go past the hotel until you reach the building, then do a 180 and repeat that route until he shows up.

You can also reload your save at the taxi but I found that way worse.

I feel like RGG didn't know what to do with Ichiban in Infinite Wealth, after the party split I couldn't really say I wanted to go back to ichi's party

      Anonymous

Unsurprising. Ichi's story post-split is just running around like a headless chicken trying to find Lani while Kiryu generally has an actual focus to his activites.

      Moose

Same. Every time I've gone back to Ichiban this has been my reaction. I don't care about Lani like Kiryu or Ichiban do, Ebina and Sawashiro's side of the plot is way more interesting, Buraisu just takes me out of the game every time he opens his mouth, Chitose's drama is fine but it feels both too short and too long, and for both post-split chapters so far they're running around like headless chickens.

I am beyond surprised they didn't beeline to Dwight the instant they heard Chitose say it was him on Eiji's tablet and instead went "Duh, where could Lani be!? We have no idea!"

Bryce must have wanted her alive. It's why Eiji didn't kill her when he had the chance. It's not sure why he wanted her alive.

They had to give him autism like Aoki at the end of 7 (yes I know Ichiban is bluffing but I must personally send my hench to the Tower anyway) for the plot to keep going after ch9 so he has to kill her personally

I feel like there was a motive behind IW to make Ichiban a lot less interesting of a protagonist compared to Daddy Kaz who had a far more engaging plot happening. Switching back to Ichi/Hawaii just made you want the story to progress so you can get back to Kiryu.

Sujimancer would have been so cool if you could actually summon one of your Sujimon as an AI Support during battle. Then add some more skills that allow you to use your turn to command your Sujimon in some way (use a specific skill or attack a specific enemy), let them do combo attacks/follow-ups depending on your friendship with them, and buff the scaling on Sujimancer’s existing skills.

Thing is, outside of the note (Which is now gone and Akane is the only one who memorized it) he can very easily just lie his way through everything.
      >Oh, you have a duplicate of this pendant I have? Wow, you must have had Akane forge it to try and usurp my position.
      >Oh, you're the rightful Sage of Palekana? How can you prove that?
As it is all the proof lies on Akane's word and nothing else, and she's a newcomer to the faith compared to Bryce. What are his adherents going to do? They've all drunk the Kool-Aid and the people on Nele are executing randos for him before being brought back to Hawaii. Even Kalon and white chick were like a deer in the headlights after Ichiban dropped the truth bomb on them. Lani is a loose end for Bryce but realistically she can't do anything without Akane's context, and Bryce can just pull the "Foreigner trying to take my religious position" card or something equally accusatory enough to paint her in a bad light.

Wait, is there not a secret party member in Infinite Wealth...?

Nope. It's exactly what you see on the boxart. At best you get support characters like Eiji, Yamai, and the Tojo crew but those are just for that fight.
Ichiban's party is Eric, Chitose, Adachi, and Han.
Kiryu's party is Nanba, Seonhee, Saeko, and Zhao.
Han doesn't join until chapter 13, one chapter from the finale.

They paint him as being super hungry for power and willing to do absolutely anything to maintain it and gain more. Akane didn't even fully believed the letter was even real when she called him, but even the slight possibility that it could be real made him show up to the orphanage in the middle of the night fully intent on killing Lani. As for not just killing Lani the moment dwight had her, i figure it's just trying to avoid any loose ends by having him see her die over trusting someone else to do it.

My thoughts are that the gameplay is fun but it peaks in the mid-late game. The beginning is a bit of a drag and the plot ending falls flat. Better than 7 when turn-based debuted but it's not anything crazy when it comes to JRPGs. It's an easy enough game

It got heavily advertised, that's what it did. Joking aside, it really did do a lot in terms of succeeding 7.
        >It's got more proper story dungeons (Though they really need to expand on them since they still pale in comparison to even basic JRPGs).
        >They made the actual dungeons at least something.
        >The combat was massively improved and it feels like a normal JRPG now with balance and everything.
        >There's a boatload of content and while it's not as much as 5 it's still massive.
        >Hawaii doesn't feel as restrictive as Ijincho and having all three maps really helps it as a JRPG even if Kamurocho is somewhat lifeless due to not much taking place there, whereas 7 felt highly limited since it was like 90% in Ijincho so you got bored more easily.
        >Boss fights feel more enjoyable than in 7 and like there's more gimmicks or surprises involved without pumping their HP to the sky.
        >Way more enemies and enemy types.
It's just a solid JRPG now. Its main fault is in how easy it is to overlevel if you touch side content and the story from Ichiban's side. I find it suspect so many people didn't dock the story for being boring though. The game is like 10+ hours before you even start having the story move, whereas with 7 you're moving very quickly and establishing stuff quickly even though it doesn't truly start until the end of chapter 4 or early chapter 5. 8 doesn't even start until chapter 5 and doesn't truly start until chapter 8 at which point it speeds through the story at breakneck pace.

I'm still fuming to this day in regards to the relatively poor reception Lost Judgment got in the west

      >this same fricking butthole goes on to suck the dick of Ishin Kiwami, even having the balls to say that its combat is great
      >the game never made an impression outside of the hardcore fan base

Ah, I see. In my opinion, Judgment has a better story since it’s narrative-driven, while Lost Judgment is more character-driven, but all the good moments were reserved for the newer characters while the pre-existing characters are less active and slightly flanderized.

I miss how social and alive Judgment’s Kamurocho felt, and the city feels neglected in LJ. Hell, the same story goes for Infinite Wealth’s Kamurocho, there’s literally nothing to do there.

                >Hell, the same story goes for Infinite Wealth’s Kamurocho, there’s literally nothing to do there.
I honestly think they're trying to move away from Kamurocho by making it less relevant in every new entry in the series. The huge nostalgia trip in 8 may be the last time we see Kamurocho so they can focus on Ijincho, Hawaii or new areas.

Kamurocho still feels more alive than Ijincho and Honolulu, but at the same time, it feels “empty”, in the sense that it filled in the gap that Kiryu left behind when he “disappeared”, as if it moved on.

It was weird to me that when IW first came out and reviews started dropping there were people even here getting hyped about awards talk and stuff. I get wanting the series to get more recognition etc. but I would've thought if any group of people would be aware of how little bearing award shows have on the quality of something it'd be fans of a series which has routinely been ignored by them until very recently and significantly grown in popularity regardless. Gaiden's a very recent example of this even, it's just barely in the green on Metacritic and yet if you ask most people they'll probably say it's one of the best ones.

Sega was probably paying off journo scum this time around. They obviously put a lot into advertising. I'm not really sure why journos or normies liked it. It was a throwback to the Kiryu era while making Ichiban look silly half the game. There's a lot of new problems with it. one being it's so long. I guess if you just dabble in some side stuff here and there, it feels enormous. Maybe that's enough. but the story was paper thin.

At least Akiyama's was cathartic. You can feel how pissed off he was about the entire situation considering he felt like one of Kiryu's closest friends only to have both him and Date lying to his face for like half a decade despite constantly going out on a limb for Kiryu ever since 5.

At the same time, Akiyama was also trying to drag back Kiryu into Kamurocho in 6 because you're le dragon of dojima you're the legend you should act like the legend! please save Kamurocho again when that's the last thing Kiryu wanted to do. Kiryu fricking hates Kamurocho and being the dragon.
Akiyama never understood Kiryu in the way Date or Haruka did. Akiyama has a lot of respect for him, and that's the reason they can't be true friends.

Huh? He goes from Ed attacking him in the sewer to trying to get Kiryu to not kidnap Haruto who he should technically should be a legal guardian for, then it's his 007 information moment at the hotel, and then it's him teaming up with Kiryu because Kiryu is insisting on killing Someya. When did he pressure him to save everyone? Was it during the Ed stuff or something?

It's the wrong angle, but it's also how he perceives Kiryu. To him Kiryu is his hero which 8 doubles down on, and even in 8 Kiryu respects Akiyama for that perception of him. Akiyama might be a bit off on his assessment of Kiryu, sure, but 8 makes it pretty clear they're pretty tight all things considered, it's just that circumstances are ruining their friendship.

      >Actually listen to the dialogue Kiryu is spouting out of his mouth.
      >"But... I'd spend the rest of my life as someone else. Is that really something worth fighting for?"
So did they not communicate with their teams or something? Why the massive disparity in diary Kiryu and cutscene Kiryu? They're worlds apart in their beliefs. Diary Kiryu is full of hope, cutscene Kiryu is a defeatist. I also agree with , what is this bullshit?

The world knows Kiryu is alive. Your contract is null and void now because the Daidoji couldn't stop it. Why the hell does Kiryu not only "renew the contract" but throw Date into the Akiyama limbo? It makes zero sense with what has happened in the main story. There is zero hold the Daidoji has on Kiryu at this point outside of his Hawaii job. Everyone knows he's alive now and has for "several days" according to Date's discussion with Kiryu. How hasn't Haruka heard? Do none of the orphans watch the news? Did they miss their crime lord dad coming back to life which would be national news considering the coverup to keep him dead in the first place?

Everything regarding Kiryu's side content feels like it's been slapped together just to make you sad and ignore thinking about anything. Komaki saw him face to face and knows he's alive. Akiyama met him and had a drink with him. Nakajima outright said he saw the video. Kashiwagi knows who he is and said so to his face in a roundabout way. Sawashiro knows who he is and that he's alive. Every single party member of Ichiban's knows who he is and his pedigree. How are the Daidoji okay with this?

Daidoji in Gaiden was tightly written. We know how strong they are, the extent of their intelligence and surveillance, their cruel ways, etc.
In 8, the Daidoji are as strong and as weak as the plot requires them to be. It's weird.

          >so the main plot doesn't reflect them.
The problem is that they went out of their way to not only stagger the LLs until after Tatara's video, but they have an entire LL dedicated to talking about that having happened. You can't have Date and Kiryu directly talk about this then immediately forget it happened when it's convenient to you.

I think you're putting way too much stock in what are still basically rumors at that point of the story, it only really gets credibly confirmed at the end of Chapter 12 when he's filmed by multiple people and appears on national news. Rumors of Kiryu surviving and taking part in the Dissolution have also probably been circulating for years. His deal with the Daidoji still stands until they release him from it at the start of the finale, which again is only after he appears on national news.

Nakajima only brings it up because literally nothing else connects him and Date. Most of the other life links are people who know Date well enough that him wanting to meet doesn't appear odd and also know enough about the underworld to know most of what Tatara spouts is bullshit, so why would the Kiryu rumor be any different? Others like the Hiroshima boys immediately figure out what is going when they see Kiryu but they play along. The only outlier is Kaoru but her inclusion was probably an afterthought and only at the request of the localisation team.

              >in what are still basically rumors at that point of the story
Not really. They have video footage of him speaking to Ebina with Ebina and Sawashiro both confirming his identity live on Tatara's channel. It's not rumors anymore. Chitose says Tatara Channel was massive at that point with everyone paying attention to it due to their major scoops so it has massive credibility in the public eye.
The Seiryu HQ stuff in chapter 12 just solidifies it, but Tatara's expose is already enough to pretty much show it's there.

The only list I didn't complete 100% was the body. I could not find the Paradise Bikini and I wasn't about to run that fricking dungeon for the 100th time to try to find it. I figured by the time I play it again, someone will tell me if its level 26-29 or level 36-39. But everything else was done. Including weapons. Some of which were extremely painful to get like the Dice Cane and the 100k can quest mop.

Paradise Bikini is EX only in the HH.
Safes from 31-39 can all spawn them, you're just guaranteed a safe on 34 and 39 at the end. That's why you need to check every room since some of them are safe rooms. I've got all the HH/YU armors personally so I can confirm these are all correct.

The reason I was running the last parts of HH was because I just completely stopped seeing chests that didn't have spooks popping out. I was checking though. If you want to know how the safes work:
                >Safes with the two guys carrying it will always be an item.
                >Safes with the safe in the middle of a bunch of fences with paper will always be an item.
                >Safes with the safe in the middle of a bunch of cardboard box shelves will always be an item.
                >Safes where two safes are in the room in the corners will always have one safe be an item safe and one is a creep.
                >Safes where it's just one in a corner with another opened should always be a creep, it's always been that way for me.
                >Exit room safes are always safe.

Hey Moose, you had any trouble with the low level sujimon from the beginning of the game that become very rare once you go to Hawaii? Basically I'm missing two because I rushed through the beginning on both normal and legend. I know Hammered Man is in the bar district and Turncoat Titillator only appears at night but for the life of me I can't find either of them.

I'm personally still trying to get #25 who should be in the same situation you're in with Hammered Man but that's the only one I'm stuck trying to get. Besides him I only need the tier 1 Pier Reviewer somehow and the rest is story bosses.

EXP? Get to the final chapter and bump into any of the flashy Yakuza (Silver suits). They give like 2-3K exp a fight and by endgame you should be able to kill like 10 before having to run over to Doc Emoto.
Money? It's the same method as 1 and 2. Save, go to the Dragon Palace, go to roulette, bet on 1-18 and every single overlap for the highest amount, and then reload until you win. Start off on 1-6 with overlaps or try to win 0/00 and then work your way up.
If you're fine with glitches then anything you buy from the mahjong point shop won't cost you any tags if you go over to Ebisu straight from it and sell the items you just bought.

I always fricking hated whenever Kiryu would have a unique outfit for a game, like in 3 or 5, and then he changes back into the old suit at some point.
8 was the only time where I felt that moment was earned.
In fact, it's so good that it makes me retroactively hate that he wore it again for the boss fight in 7, so the moment in 8 wasn't the first time he wore it for real again since "dying".

They should make a SOL Yakuza game where there's no major villain or series plot going on and all the story stuff is just the characters hanging out and there's still combat and stuff but it's just thugs on the sides of the street and optional dungeons and substories and stuff.

Yes, I did, and I'm saying they expected you to at some point go inside to place stuff into it during your time there. >I don't know what to do now
Actually 100% the lists if you haven't. Do all 80 raids, get all the weapons in every category, get all the armor in every category, get all 53 CDs, etc. This means lucking into the drops on Sectors 1 and 2 of both the HH and YU and Sector 3 of the HH but it's pretty easy to do that as there's only three or so per floor.

      > 100% unfinished business
How many hours of playtime do you have? I finished the game at the 44% mark. Must have been one huge grind.

I'm getting close and I'm at 180 hours currently. Only need a couple weapons for Hitman, 200 kills in DoD, 100 more kills in Rush, have to call in 8 more Poundmates when I have the disposable income, and then Table Talks across both Ichiban and Kiryu since I'm waiting on PA. Otherwise I have 100% on both lists. So 190-200 hours seems about right, on par with 5, a bit more than 7 if you count a NG+ run as part of the 100%.

The expectations for Gaiden weren't very high. They outright said it'd be a short game, and it's sandwiched between 6 and 7, not a lot of suspense since you know a lot of what's gonna happen.
What we got instead was a surprisingly good set of new characters, the Daidoji faction were intriguing, excellent gameplay and sidecontent, and one of the most emotional endings in the series.

Then you've got the total opposite with Infinite Wealth, a huge game years in development in which the new characters on average aren't as good, the story shits itself halfway into it, the Daidoji are a bunch of inconsistently written jobbers, Ichiban's character didn't develop much and the gameplay is better than 7's but still wears out its welcome kind of quickly,

Come to think of it, do the PS versions still use the clunky Playstation save interface? I was playing 5 on PS4 when 6 was announced for PC, so I jumped ship.

            Moose

Nope. They've had a native save menu since I'm pretty sure 6. I can't remember if Ishin Kiwami was native or used the PS4 menu, I think it was native.

no but I wish it did they have their own save screen now and it always defaults the highlight on a new slot so if you're mashing you will accidentally create a new save. I have seven slots now and you can't delete them.

I'm on PS5, when I checked it was all grouped together into one entry in the save settings menu, I couldn't figure out how to delete an individual save slot.

I guess they must have changed it for the PS5 version then. For the PS4 version it's got them individually.

Yeah, for PS4 games there’s an expand button next to the game name and you can still do that, but for PS5 games that isn’t there so if the game doesn’t let you manage saves you’re boned.

Shame. I could have sworn I saw such an option on a couple of my PS5 games but maybe I'm thinking of add-ons and not saves. I guess if you happen to pay for PS+ maybe it'll let you upload them individually then download it all back? Just an idea.

It uses the same interface unfortunately. Maybe they'll patch in a delete save function while the launch support is still going but I won't hold my breath.

I remember doing a good chunk of stuff, but I was so burnt out of it at the end (did the mistake of doing the 3-4-5 marathon) that I didn't even get to Amon and I just kinda rushed through Shinada's part, so I'll go through and finish it again (though I'll probably skip most of the cutscenes because I'm not sitting through 2 consecutive hours of cutscenes on Saejima's part again).

Oh, I get it, Infinite Wealth’s theme is about rehabilitation vs punishment, it’s why Ichiban was willing to forgive Eiji and have him atone for his sins in peace instead of throwing him to the wolves.

    Very clever, Yokoyama-sensei.

It's about forgiveness, Ichiban forgives Eji hoping that Saeko would finally forgive him too so they can get married, while Kiryu hopes Ebina could forgive the Yakuza so he can in turn forgive himself and get married to chemo treatment, then you have Yamai meeting his old crush looking to get married only find out that she has severe forgetfulness not forgiveness someone mixed up those words.

She’s not a villain? She was blackmailed into doing Eiji’s and Ebina’s bidding, but Ichiban’s kindness gave her the bravery she needed to go against the threats and reveal her own identity anyway. She sacrificed Tatara Hisoka, her own persona that she developed to cope with the isolation and loneliness, as in she figuratively sacrificed “herself”.

            Anonymous

Basing off "yakuza 4/gaiden all cutscenes" video, both yakuza 4 and gaiden have 10 hours of cutscenes (including text boxes for both, gaiden has some gameplay), other videos have 4 at 5 hours, and gaiden at 6.
Based on the 10 hour videos, Akiyama's part ends around 3 hours in, and he does not show up again until 5 hours later, where he shares the last 2 hours with everyone else. So we'll say 3 hours (that's counting textbox as voiced) + 1 hour of random voices (combat lines and the like) + 30 minutes (1/4 of the remaining hours), and he's still short 1h30 of Gaiden's shortest "all cutscenes" video.

It sucks that Gaiden is essentially an afterthought in terms of the overall plot. Its continuity with Yakuza 7 and 8 is heavily severed by the lack of continuity.

Kiryu doesn’t get referred to as Joryu, Kiryu doesn’t ask Ichiban to refer to him as “Taichi Suzuki” around people other than Ichiban himself and maybe Seonhee since she already knows who he is, Kiryu shrugs when Hanawa dies, Hanawa dies for no good reason and is treated like a pencil pusher who doesn’t know how to fight, so on and so forth.

        Anonymous

Gaiden was written after Infinite Wealth so I imagine the Daidoji and whoever “the Boss” is will be the villains in 9 and will take their anger out on Ichiban for costing them their two best agents. I also don’t think Hanawa is really dead either.

Is the bat part of Ichiban's imagination? Why does he never use it in the intros or transitions?

Nanba and Adachi saw him literally pull it out of the ground in Y7 and on his shelf in Y8.

I know they did. And the change in animations between 7 and 8 imply that he got really good at using it. But every time we get a glimpse of how the fight is going outside of his fantasy, he's fighting with his fists and most of the times he's getting his ass kicked.

Don't think too much about it. Most of the things in modern yakuza are le epic maymay reference without too much thought put into it. The whole bat shit and his so called "schizophrenia" is just a minor reference to dragon quest, just like the trashcan enemies and few other types are a reference to some DQ specific enemy types.

If you do thunk about it, the game is implying that Kiryu needed a hit to the head and probably whatever opioids he's taking for cancer to reach the same level of schizovision as Ichiban.

So to complete the substory from ounabara you need to gift the desk girl stuff. Is there any reason to gift other characters like Miss Match, Juliet or Bartender? What do I get from them?

In general I really hope they just merge Freelancer and Hero at this point. Freelancer feels redundant and in both 7 and 8 its only real good move is Release German Suplex.

They really should done that in 8. Frick I dunno make a excuse that ichiban canonically maxed out freelancer and already knows all the skills

Actually, I’m glad this game still has ridiculous moments but is still a lot more brutal. The Barracudas gutting the homeless pickpocket and Roman firmly cemented them in my mind as a threat, and Dwight was menacing. Too bad he, uh, becomes a literal piss stain and a joke after the fight.

Yeah, I had no respect for him whatsoever. Wong had a backbone and was always planning on toppling Bryce, despite Bryce being a 4D chess grandmaster who puts Kurosawa’s keikaku to shame.
Dwight, though? Nothing more than a pawn, always listening to Bryce’s orders until it became obvious he’ll be killed for failing a third time. I felt zero emotion when the shark ate him.

What a disingenous c**t, hiding behind RGGs sales and scores. Even if you ignore the dogshit localizations these games have gotten recently, there are at least 3 typos per chapter in Gaiden when I can count on one hand how many there were in the frickhuge script of Y5. But at least on top of that now you get the privilige to pay for content that used to be included for free.

    >went back to Gaiden
    >colors and graphics and character models are so much better
    >combat feels crisp
    >side activities are just right and not overwhelming
    >secret agent Kiry- er, “Joryu” feels more immersive to control than Ichiban

Man, I love Gaiden so much. I also love Infinite Wealth, but Gaiden really scratched that yakuza itch for me.

Gaiden it's still a Yakuza game.
      "Like a Dragon" it's the actual spin-off

Adachi having fantastic physique at his age is both a motivator and a demotivator for me. I’m still in my 20’s and I go to the gym, but I half-ass my efforts for poor reasons like “my stomach hurts” or “my knees are sore”.
