I played Persona 4 forever ago, and I played Persona 4 Golden in 2022, and it burned me out completely, I was barely able to finish it. I've already played P5; is P5R sufficiently different to justify playing it?
This game is pretty fun and comfy up until makoto joins the team then not only it becomes a slog, but I have never seen a game meatride a character like it does with Makoto its fricking insufferable
There is nothing wrong with Makoto as a character the problem lies in how the game inserts her in the story. It kind of ruins the dynamic of the group by making a lot of the cast useless. She's treated as a pseudo leader which shits on joker, she is given more screentime and importance than Ann, the group's resident female which shits on her.
She steals morgana's role as the group's strategist making the cat useless basically.
The game also constantly reminds you how perfect and ultra competent she is.
Also the friend group becomes bloated pretty fast but that's uniquely Makoto's fault.
Its alright, but pretty flawed imo.

The characters are just a stereotype from SoL anime so nothing impressive about them, and the villain are one dimesional morons who get re-written instead of actual development and catharsis
Its not all bad though as i said its an alright game, what carries this game is its sick soundtrack and stylish art style, those two are pretty top tier.
Then the fact that its combat is not total shit like the majority of Jrpgs, so it can pass as mediocre.
The final verdice is a meh game, like 5 or 6 out of 10.

It's not, but the added story moments are worth another playthrough if you ever feel like revisiting it one day.

What Royal did with Akechi was surface level based. They barely did anything with it.
