Yeah I won't say the actual gameplay is amazing. The team-building autism is fun though - you can do all kinds of shit because there's no limitations on team comps beyond being able to field no more than 5 units per team.
Plus, outside of ultra-tryhard ranking battles you can use your favourites and generally be fine. Also, the setting and worldbuilding are, in my opinion, pretty great.

Unfortunately, a great deal of it is legitimately substantial and provides important information answering a lot of the questions people had from the game's outset.
The rest is a sci-fi alternate world tale of the space race and one scientist's pursuit of piercing the artificial sky covering the planet. The only superfluous parts are the smattering of "action" scenes.
The word count is justified, but should have been presented as a supplemental novel simply by virtue of the fact that the game is a mobile gacha and probably less than 5% of their players read the whole thing.

The gameplay is definitely watered down to hell and it is frustrating how repetitive it has been in most combat encounters, but the big fights like dongbaek that have fun gimmicks and satisfying to piece out.

Not him but I didin't think Limbus had writing as good as Ruina, and I also didn't think Ruina had as good writing as Lob Corp. I don't like how each game seems to focus more and more on worldbuilding and Limbus felt tonally inconsistent and the writing feels bogged down by constantly having so many different characters in each scene who all need to give their own inputs on a situation. I uninstalled after the chicken event so I don't know what canto fours writing is like but I doubt it's particularly an improvement

Gacha is completely avoidable/optional. You can grind out currency and outright buy characters/identities and EGO/equipment. If you dont want to buy the season pass, you can buy the shit from it next season with the same currency. Only problem is that you may want to buy the season pass as it makes the grind for the currency much more bearable.

Arknights has better gameplay that a lot of 'real' games that I've actually played. I don't play a lot of gacha though so I can't compare it to other gacha games.
Honestly, a fair amount of JRPGs/strategy games (which are the ones I think are most directly comparable) I think it has better gameplay than. Some examples (keep in mind these are also games I like) are disgaea 1 and 2, several (but not all) of the Atelier games, some paradox grand strategy games (maybe all, but I think they have better replayability). In trying to answer your question though I realized that a lot of my feeling that arknights is one of the better games I've played actually comes down to the fact that I like the genre - plenty of games I could've listed are just games that 'I like more' but that aren't really fair to directly compare.

I don't consider autobattling itself to be part of the gameplay of gacha. But I do consider the long-term resource management of choosing what stages to auto to be part of the gameplay - I didn't mention disgaea 5 as a game I think arknights is definitely better than because it's one of the few games I've played that isn't a service model game which actually demands long-term resource management skills from the player. I can understand why people might not like that aspect of gameplay, or why some people might not even consider it gameplay at all, but both arknights and disgaea 5 get high marks in my book for being among the few games to convince me to open an excel spreadsheet and do in-depth planning outside the game itself.

Ruina's pretty good. Uses its format of library and invitations to expand the setting in many different ways that still end up connecting in the end. It does a very good job at being the good kind of revenge story even though revenge doesn't come into play until the last 10% of the game. The customization and fun you can have with different builds of your decks is great and I love how mod support expands on it even after the game is over.
Most importantly, its not misery porn, the game literally ends with everyone getting revived, and it never dwells on how shit the City is. Angela and Rolands banter is always there to break things up and either explain or justify the way things are.
And then Limbshit came out and every story chapter is a monster of the week story that focuses on one character at the time. Yi Sand can not even be considered a character before chapter 4, the guy has 10 lines at most.
The gameplay is so fricking bad, it has none of what made Ruina good. In most story stages you have 0 control over who attacks what. And when you fight abnos, half of the time UI gets in the way and you can't even clearly see whats being targetted, how did they nail it with Ruina yet frick up so bad here? Then you have the typical gacha bullshit

I really don't see this angle at all. Granted it's too early in the game's narrative to fully declare it's intent but so far the strongest chapters of the game, 3 and 4, had misery and suffering but used them as a backdrop for their respective sinners' stories, most of them related to their guilt or sin and the ways they will overcome it in the future. So far Yi Sang's is the only one that has reached a conclusion in that regard, but it was a damn good one.

Blame Director for making gachashit that won't reach chapter 12 until 2030. Actually at this rate it might be closer to 2050. Ruina took what, just a year to complete? Even without the ending, during EA period the game was still being updated with Realizations that end with Angela/Roland becoming a slightly better person, working through their issues. So far it hasn't felt like this to me, I think many characters have already had decent moments of introspection or development without having had their respective chapter. Heathcliff comes to mind, he still has the rage issues as you mention but I appreciate that every subsequent chapter has shown him to be more empathic and willing to participate in the team, even showing geunine care for Don at one point, for example, which I thought was great.
There's definitely a difference in the structures of ruina and limbus's story and I can totally understand liking one and disliking the other. I wasn't much of a fan of how distant Roland and Angela were as characters from the rest of the world. The cutscenes being them literally looking at foreign conversations led to a lot of dialog being blatantly expository at times as guests just described their surroundings and roles. That has happened a lot less in Limbus and it feels a lot more organic.
Ultimately this is an entirely subjective argument so if you don't like Limbus' story either as well as the gameplay then that's that. I was miffed at you because of the initial decrying of Limbus' writing which, upon first description, just made it seem like what you were dismissing all of the series' good writing into "edgeslop" when edginess and brutality being juxtaposed with hope for humanity has been part of the games from day 1. Gacha has by far been the biggest detriment of the game and it will forever be such a shame that it was the choice the director took for Limbus. I will admit that it is very tempting to be smug towards other gacha but ultimately that is just falling into the same pointless tribalism that I hate so much since limbus has yet to really prove itself to be on a league of it's own. I definitely have hope for it but I don't blame anyone for faltering given the latest events. I just hope things get better and as for other gacha console war homosexuals the best solution is to just ignore them and /vg/ homosexuals rather than get down on their level. Ishmael has had plenty of characterization moments.
She tries to play the straight man but is deeply neurotic and obsessive.
She is a control freak with a short temper that gets mad when things don't go her way
She is smug and looks down on others who aren't as savvy as her,
yet she is also shown to be naive and has outdated expectations of how the world works.
And it's clear she cares for the sinners, given that her outbursts come from her losing her crew at sea.
There's other tidbits, it's true that since there's a big cast, she has to share a lot of screentime with others so she's far from being as fleshed out as, say, any of the sephirah, but to say that she doesn't have a personality or is one dimensional just tells me that you either weren't paying any attention to any dialog scene or are just being cynical about the game on purpose.

You have now completed all of your dailies. It's that simple. Takes less than ten minutes to do.
It's more cost effective to skip thread luxcavations 3 times and you only really need to do a single XP luxcavation per day so you can finish your dailies and hoard a decent amount of gold tickets. Whole process takes me like 8 minutes.

The point of that post was there during the drama, you’d get lots of passionate PM defenders ENGAGING in the conversation. Now, those passionate defenders are nowhere to be found, any response to posts like mine are very dismissive and short, which I consider not truly engaging with the topic. The word count is justified, but should have been presented as a supplemental novel simply by virtue of the fact that the game is a mobile gacha and probably less than 5% of their players read the whole thing.

Gacha is completely avoidable/optional. You can grind out currency and outright buy characters/identities and EGO/equipment. If you dont want to buy the season pass, you can buy the shit from it next season with the same currency. Only problem is that you may want to buy the season pass as it makes the grind for the currency much more bearable.

That shit is criminal given that it redirects you to a map where it's impossible to fulfil the requirement for the trim given how fast the enemies spawn.
Apparently the only way to do it on that stage is with a maxed out Gnosis to quickfreeze the first one that spawns. I haven't seen a video of it though.

Honestly, a fair amount of JRPGs/strategy games (which are the ones I think are most directly comparable) I think it has better gameplay than. Some examples (keep in mind these are also games I like) are disgaea 1 and 2, several (but not all) of the Atelier games, some paradox grand strategy games (maybe all, but I think they have better replayability). In trying to answer your question though I realized that a lot of my feeling that arknights is one of the better games I've played actually comes down to the fact that I like the genre - plenty of games I could've listed are just games that 'I like more' but that aren't really fair to directly compare.
I don't consider autobattling itself to be part of the gameplay of gacha. But I do consider the long-term resource management of choosing what stages to auto to be part of the gameplay - I didn't mention disgaea 5 as a game I think arknights is definitely better than because it's one of the few games I've played that isn't a service model game which actually demands long-term resource management skills from the player. I can understand why people might not like that aspect of gameplay, or why some people might not even consider it gameplay at all, but both arknights and disgaea 5 get high marks in my book for being among the few games to convince me to open an excel spreadsheet and do in-depth planning outside the game itself.

Judging by their own announcement, they keep those.
Ruina's pretty good. Uses its format of library and invitations to expand the setting in many different ways that still end up connecting in the end. It does a very good job at being the good kind of revenge story even though revenge doesn't come into play until the last 10% of the game. The customization and fun you can have with different builds of your decks is great and I love how mod support expands on it even after the game is over.
Most importantly, its not misery porn, the game literally ends with everyone getting revived, and it never dwells on how shit the City is. Angela and Rolands banter is always there to break things up and either explain or justify the way things are.
And then Limbshit came out and every story chapter is a monster of the week story that focuses on one character at the time. Yi Sand can not even be considered a character before chapter 4, the guy has 10 lines at most.
The gameplay is so fricking bad, it has none of what made Ruina good. In most story stages you have 0 control over who attacks what. And when you fight abnos, half of the time UI gets in the way and you can't even clearly see whats being targetted, how did they nail it with Ruina yet frick up so bad here? I really don't see this angle at all. Granted it's too early in the game's narrative to fully declare it's intent but so far the strongest chapters of the game, 3 and 4, had misery and suffering but used them as a backdrop for their respective sinners' stories, most of them related to their guilt or sin and the ways they will overcome it in the future. So far Yi Sang's is the only one that has reached a conclusion in that regard, but it was a damn good one.
You can not like it regardless, which is fine either way, these things are subjective after all. That said;

Blame Director for making gachashit that won't reach chapter 12 until 2030. Actually at this rate it might be closer to 2050. Ruina took what, just a year to complete? Even without the ending, during EA period the game was still being updated with Realizations that end with Angela/Roland becoming a slightly better person, working through their issues. Gotta admit though, it works way better in Roland's case because he had way more emotional baggage to work through as opposed to Angela.

So far it hasn't felt like this to me, I think many characters have already had decent moments of introspection or development without having had their respective chapter. Heathcliff comes to mind, he still has the rage issues as you mention but I appreciate that every subsequent chapter has shown him to be more empathic and willing to participate in the team, even showing geunine care for Don at one point, for example, which I thought was great.
There's definitely a difference in the structures of ruina and limbus's story and I can totally understand liking one and disliking the other. I wasn't much of a fan of how distant Roland and Angela were as characters from the rest of the world. The cutscenes being them literally looking at foreign conversations led to a lot of dialog being blatantly expository at times as guests just described their surroundings and roles. Gacha has by far been the biggest detriment of the game and it will forever be such a shame that it was the choice the director took for Limbus. I will admit that it is very tempting to be smug towards other gacha but ultimately that is just falling into the same pointless tribalism that I hate so much since limbus has yet to really prove itself to be on a league of it's own. I definitely have hope for it but I don't blame anyone for faltering given the latest events. Well I find it hard to believe that after getting almost no characterisation for the 4 chapters I've played, she suddenly got some sort of super deep emotional writing in a mini event
Ishmael has had plenty of characterization moments.
She tries to play the straight man but is deeply neurotic and obsessive.
She is a control freak with a short temper that gets mad when things don't go her way
She is smug and looks down on others who aren't as savvy as her,
yet she is also shown to be naive and has outdated expectations of how the world works.
And it's clear she cares for the sinners, given that her outbursts come from her losing her crew at sea.
There's other tidbits, it's true that since there's a big cast, she has to share a lot of screentime with others so she's far from being as fleshed out as, say, any of the sephirah, but to say that she doesn't have a personality or is one dimensional just tells me that you either weren't paying any attention to any dialog scene or are just being cynical about the game on purpose.

Realistically, Blue Archive basically takes no time unless there's a new event story.
Arknights takes time because of their shitty auto system but it's the most enjoyable dedicated phone game.
I barely login to Master Duel and it's on PC. I just enjoy the events, ranked is a fricking mess and I'm not very good at the game to be honest.
FEH I'm not putting my hopes into. I quit previously for good reason.
Limbus is actually the most time intensive when there's an event due to the manual grind, and I've recently stopped doing Mirror of Mirrors and just swapped back to the Mirror of the Beginning because it's shorter. Gotta crab.
