Not only are linux distros complete garbage as a desktop OS but trying to play any game on linux that's not some huge popular normalgay slop is a nightmare.
Also the people who shill linux constantly like the ones who make these threads do it entirely for gay ideological reasons and know that they are blatantly lying about how easy it is. They only care about you doing what they want and they will tell you whatever they think will make you listen to them.
      T. daily drives an ubuntu spin and has for the last decade

As someone who has been gaming on Linux for 10 years, yes, it's a meme.
I didn't use my desktop for like 2 months, booted it up to play some vidya, literally nothing works because there's been 1000 updates in that time and all the dependencies are broken. Had to spend an hour fixing everything, figuring out what new versions to use etc.
Will move back to windows soon if I can be bothered.

The biggest issue was with steam by the way.
Before I even started updating packages, steam just would not load in. Had to uninstall it, update all the packages and dependencies, install it again. Then had to sort out the issues with proton.

Linux gaming works flawlessly. For a week. After you spend a few hours setting everything up and ironing out the faults. Until new updates roll-out and break everything.

      >skill issues
got a gpdwin 4 free from a company raffle it came with windows 11 and windows 11 is garbage on handhelds. installed bazite on the thing its a nice SteamDeck competitor now. has same steam UI as steam deck, got gamescope, everything, and in a smaller form factor. thing just works and has worked for months now.

          linux is linux Black person.
its all mostly the same file system hierarchy, with a few exceptions like nixos. ive used arch for years, also installed gentoo, now most of my computers use nixos.
bazzite is nice because i can offload updates to a github action and roll back if something breaks. i literally dont have to worry about updates on it. its an appliance.

        pros:
-alt tabbing works for all games.
-launching it as its own session from login/tty allows for hdr.
-has a performance monitoir overlay you can toggle
        cons:
-best on amdgpus idk if you can even use it with nvidia

            >that's why workspaces exist
that is still a problem with some games. it will crash when it loses input focus. gamescope will ensure its always has focus in its own compositor (even when it, itself doesnt). its also got framerate limiting features that are nice if you for some reason need it.

a more obscure use for it is to correct the aspect ratio in shitty ports of DOS games that are supposed to have a 1:1.2 pixel ratio

          How do you do that?

          Anonymous

          -w 1280 -h 800 -W 1280 -H 960 -S stretch

          Surely you mean
          >-w 320 -h 200 -W 1600 -H 1200 -S stretch -F nearest
which is the only acceptable scaling for DOS games.
Too bad adding -f for fullscreen makes it disregard my -W and -H arguments and stretch to 1920x1200 instead of pillarboxing to 1600x1200 like I wanted.
But it's rarely an issue for me because ScummVM, DOSBox Staging, and Chocolate Doom already scale 320x200 games properly to pillarboxed 4:3 even in fullscreen mode.

            Anonymous

in this specific case the port supports higher resolutions and is not necessarily meant to be running at the original 320x200, it just doesn't do aspect correction right even if you give it a 4:3 resolution

              Anonymous

Ah, I see. Yeah I've encountered that before. Annoying.

I’ve been having trouble with fractional scaling fricking up my game resolution ever since I got a 4k monitor, but with gamescope in bazzite it just works every time now

        Anonymous

        Different context but see

        [...]

        .
        Specifically the part about
        >games that only run in full screen and don't have a built-in windowed mode
        >games that only run windowed and don't have a built-in fullscreen mode
in which case gamescope is a way to force standard features into games which lack them, and thus can be as indispensable as a frame rate limiter for games whose developers didn't see a problem with future hardware rendering the main menu at 9000 frames per second.

how to mod new vegas on linux with no mod manager, takes only a few minutes

    NVSE
    >install New Vegas through steam
    >run the game once, let steam install redist packages and change video options

    >place latest NVSE and other mods on Data directory (every directory name must be the same, if the directories have uppercase or lowercase letter change them so they are the same)

    >on steam installation folder backup the launcher, change its name to FalloutNVLauncher.exe.bak
    >change the name of nvse_loader.exe to FalloutNVLauncher.exe
    >launch the game through steam

    Manual archive invalidation
    >install compatible body mods, skin textures and skeletons manually
    >download ArchiveInvalidationInvalidated - https://www.nexusmods.com/newvegas/mods/37004
    >on steam installation open path in terminal (~/.steam/debian-installation/steamapps/common/Fallout New Vegas) and type nano Fallout_default.ini
    >search for SArchiveList, once found add "Fallout - ArchiveInvalidation.bsa" to the list before "Fallout - Textures.bsa".

            Anonymous

Well there is another way to get tech support from linux elitists.
No Linux elitist can resist no matter how much they pray to the god of RTFM.
            Just say
            >Linux sucks because Windows does _____ better
Watch how they solve your problem fast, just so they can get a "win" on Windows.
It has worked so many times it has become sad.
Most Linux elitists/activists have low impulse control and a really bad inferiority complex over Windows.
I always exploit that when i run in to Linux problems.
Why bother spending time searching reddit, when you can make 1 comment and an assblasted gay will give you every answer you need.
