I thought the D3 crew, Jay Wilson on down, were incompetent even before launch, but I don't get that impression with D4's crew. I think they genuinely want to make D4 good but Blizzard is getting in the way. The game obviously needed more time in development, this season was completely mailed in, and they are really israeliteing us with microtransactions. The bones of a good Diablo game are there, I'm telling you. It may be a year or three but it will be good eventually.
D2 was just okay at launch, it had some big flaws even after LoD. And launch D3 was one of the worst games I have ever played, yet RoS was peak braindead gaming. If that mess can be salvaged so can D4.
I tried to play D3 for the first time in 2022, and I couldn't seem to figure out how to take damage on Torment. I asked on forums and they're like "Just play the campaign 12 more times, bro!!!!! It picks up!!!!!" Uninstalled and never looked back.
It works in the end even if it's limited, and at least it's not D3.
D3 after RoS was all about sets. You basically cannot do higher Torment without them because they put insane +20,000% damage bonuses on them. It limits your options somewhat and you have to hope a build you want has a set associated with it but it made the game playable.
Where did I say otherwise, bozo? D3 actually had 7 until late in development, but was reduced to 6. Even 7 skills would have been good, but D4 is also different since you picked your skills rather than assigning points in the skill twig.

D3 was way more fun, outside of the horrible balance at the hardest difficulty D3 was unironically the most fun I've had in an ARPG.
The gameplay, combat and weight is far beyond any other ARPG's, the balance between good drops, rarity and all that was perfect and it was just exciting to play.
PoE unironically ruined ARPG's forever with the "Need to go zoom zoom fast and wipe entire screen with one click" meta.
And it was really fun to play Diablo 3, find a good drop and be able to sell that for real money.

If they do this, they will only go against themselves because there will be no reason to keep playing the first game. They should have gone much harder on the mmo aspect and make this a lost ark lite with seasonal raids, open world pvp continents and events. Party finders are a must and they should also make crafting and trading for materials a complex and integral part of the game. Despite being always online D4 just feels unpopulated and boring. There's no reason to grind for anything once you have your full built ready after 2 or 3 days max.
S4 is atleast a good base for Diablo to move up from. The problem with 2023 D4 was no amount of added content to could fix the core being rotten. Now it did take Last Epoch releasing so they could copy its system for it to happen, but I am glad they have more interesting affixes and got rid of some of the tedious grinds for fun ones.
The next hurdle is getting class design up from where its at. Builder/Spender is a shit system and the skill twig is boring as hell.

Later on when you itemize, but starting off the combat is boring for no reason. You either run out of mana and use costless stuff, or need a builder on Barb for instance to even do stuff. The spirit POE2 is having for auras is also a really nice thing I'd like D4 to steal to allow for another set of skills without taking up a precious slot.
Level 60 is an hour of work, and then you can ride along with clanmates for a couple of Duriel kills. Tibault's Will drops constantly, so it won't take long. A barbarian has 2 unstoppable shouts plus charge, not counting metamorphosis if for some reason you want to waste an aspect.

That first disastrous pre-S1 patch killed any momentum the game had, the one that nerfed EXP gain and crit ratios and for some reason nerfed Sorceror. The game vanished from the public eye after the patch hit. It was so bad it even got normalgays mad. Unless the game gets ENGOODENED, I don't see the game getting the spotlight again. Especially if the DLC class is something lame like swamp caster.

Kanai's Cube -> Challenge Rift -> Rush 70 -> Haedrig's Gift -> Farm gear/gems/paragon points -> Leaderboard ranks/Seasonal journey. Each season release you can get like a week's worth of playtime where you're blowing through the game and having a fairly decent time before quitting again.
They should randomize the set boni each season. This season feels kinda boring.

I don't get why I hear "the campaign is good" constantly. You are low level so no mechanics yet, you are using 2 spells and enemies stand there and watch you obliterate them in the most braindead gameplay while you listen to absolute garbage tier writing. What is good about the campaign again?

Okay so we're working two expansions for this. We're going to add the damn paladin class you kids are crying about just like in 3's expansion. Ya'll need to chill with this shit. We've tossed around the idea of bringing the witch doctor back but have been struggling making it fun to play as another summoner class. The idea was to have Barb and Pal bruisers, Monk and Rogue sweepers, Sorc and Druid casters, and Necro and Witch puppetmasters. We're using seasons right now to test out ideas worth keeping.

It was never alive in the first place. Creative bankrupt company hires people who never worked on Diablo game before to create the most mediocre experience in existence. Some say it's made for casuals but in reality it's made for no one, Blizzard does not understand what makes Diablo games fun, fails to innovate and move forward. This series was dead with D3, now they just erected it a fancy tombstone.

Don't even do that you can watch the campaign on youtube at x2 speed and skip the boring shit. Essentially they make a new soulstone and bring meph back to start shit everybody in the campaign dies. That's the story. It's just a setup for the first expansion where meph does his shit and somehow brings baal back. Then guess what. Expansion two baal is going to do shit to bring back diablo so they can squeeze out a third.
You can just buy a month of Microsoft game pass then. It's on there right now.

Everything art related aside from music(which is weird because Blizzard usually nails music), and the overall feel of combat was pretty good too.
I love the ambient of D4, especially the logging screen music or Ashava fight.

That's a bit of a stretch. It was ok at best. The bosses were not balanced well and you either died to one hit or completely wiped the boss without any challenge with no in between. I soloed Duriel with lv 80 and he did no damage to me. Boring endgame if it even can be called endgame at all.
I didn't know you could die to S2 bosses. That's news to me.
The vampire boss (Zir) that spawns blood orbs similar to Lilith's orbs one shot me with the orb at lv 60 (WT4). Varshan also oneshot me with every attack if I didn't dodge or activate immunity, even just basic tentacle swing. Maybe if you play barbarian it doesn't kill you. Of course these bosses become pushovers just 10 levels later.
I did Rogue, Sorcerer, and Druid S2. No issues.
I guess you are just too much of a pro player that you weren't oneshot by the orbs in WT4 at lv60. I did kill Zir on my next attempt too but I am pointing out how imbalanced it is when you are killed in a single attack and just 10 levels later you cannot die and you still have 30 more levels to go up.
It also says something else if you think S2 was incredible when you were simply beating these glorified training dummies and that was the content.

the diablo series is that kid who was “gifted” in 4th grade.
Just intalled 2001 Diablo 2 + LoD for the first time ever about three days ago. Already grabbed a widescreen mod and glide so that it has a framerate higher than 25 FPS, and I'm really enjoying it. That said, there are some QoL features I'd really like (better menus, ability to toggle item names on the ground, stuff like that) because I'm a fricking casual.
Anybody have some old school Diablo 2 mods they'd recommend?
diablo 4 is comfy
try the plugy mod and see how that goes, i can'r remember exactly the stuff it adds but it's a good vanilla plus experience, lots of stash space for keeping loot for any other builds you make
