They're a couple in the warped sense CAPCOM writers view of love: a written plot convenience for the story to happen. Chris and Claire are the same way as are Leon and Ada. There is no line of dialogue that comes off between geniunely personal and affectionate between RE characters. Its all stilted, awkward lines that do the bare minimum of conveying a relationship.
Ethan and Mia have a very natural relationship overall I can't think of anything odd.
From Ethan's perspective there would be no reason to even stay with her after she tells him it was all a lie.
And Mia was kind of strange during the ending of 8, I remember people speculating if she's involved somehow.

Also she spends the whole game trying to kill him too. It makes no sense for him to save her or stay with her. That's also why saving Zoe is legitimately the logical choice.

The series only recently dived into straight up horror with RE7 and RE2R. RE is a "survival horror" game, but they've never been very scary outside of a handful of select sequences from certain games.
When people say RE is scary, what I think they mean to say is that it's intense. RE4 is not a scary game for the most part, but it is a very intense game. This is how most of the Resident Evil games have been up until recently.

Capcom can be quite lazy and loves to recycle used assets and canned game concepts for other franchises or sequels. This makes it very easy and predictable to determine what they're releasing next, what it'll contain, what it'll be about and so on.
Example being: RE8 takes a lot of inspiration from RE4 and the 3.5 beta, further signifying that an RE4 remake was in the works.
RE8 utilized a classic Hollywood monster movie theme, and so does Monster Hunter Sunbreak with it's classic monster horror designs.
DMC was the result of scrapped gameplay concepts for RE4.
And the upcoming ExoPrimal game is definite proof that a Dino Crisis remake - or something akin to it - is in the works. Just you wait.

I don't understand why people are writing off Rose. We just have one scene with her at the end of RE8's regular ending as a young adult, and that's enough for people to act like they don't like her? Capcom wasn't even originally planning on Village DLC and only eventually made it because of fan demand. The problem is, they made it about part of the game no one demanded more of. No one gives one frick about Rose.

For a start, RE7 Nightmare, Bedroom, Ethan Must Die, 21, Daughters, and Jack's 55th Birthday were all DLC released within a month of the game's launch. Village wasn't planned to have DLC.
The reason for both of these is quite obvious. Finish RE7 and all you get is Madhouse mode and a teaser for a free DLC (which they lied about the release date for and it took nearly a year to come out). Finish RE8, and you get a fleshed out post-game item shop, a new game+ where you carry over your old weapons to upgrade them (including new weapons like the Handcannon), and an extra game mode in Mercenaries.
It's not that Capcom got lazy with DLC, it's that RE7 got fricking greedy. Ethan Must Die, Jack's 55th Birthday, and Daughters should've been in the main game, the game is very shallow without a lot of that DLC. Village is an actually fleshed out game once you finish the vanilla version of it. The DLC is just adding to that finished product, and Shadow of Rose is a DLC they only made because of the positive reception.

Not a Hero and End of Zoe, the DLC that had new areas and required effort, took nearly a year to come out, and they were planned at that. I don't even know how you say Village was more focused on profits, when RE7 is the game with the $30 season pass.
8 can actually be replayed too since you don't have to watch cutscenes again but the Madhouse in 7 was better than 8's Shadows of the Villafe which didn't feel much different at all.
I found Madhouse pretty lame honestly.
It moves one key, but it just made the game easier for me since it wasn't hard to find all the antique coins. Buy the key, trigger the Jack scene in the basement, and you come back up and he doesn't stalk you anymore.
It also relies way too much on the awkward block mechanic. If you don't block against an acid enemy, you're pretty much dead.
But it at least changes things. The only thing I remember from Shadows is the bullet sponge enemies and extra archers at the bridge
