They're old, yes, but you can't lump them in with Classic Gameboy Era Pokemon. Quite literally everything about RS onward set to change and contradict beliefs and worldbuilding elements that the Gameboy Era had, most notably with the "always been there" approach that made it so new Pokemon were no longer in-universe discoveries and are instead common knowledge people have ALWAYS known, and that eggs have been known for so long that Elm lost his one claim to fame in HGSS, shrugging off Togepi's egg like it's as common as a Pidgey rather than expressing disbelief and awe at what was originally a scarcely-documented aspect of Pokemon Life right before his very eyes.

They shilled the everliving frick out of it to the active detriment of the other two of the Gen and capped it off by making a not!Gimmick gimmick form to shill in the cartoon, because the runners ignored the game mechanics to sperg only a mega could beat a mega (then Pikachu and Incineroar did that handily the very next series). If you weren't a kid or someone who thought Japanese warfare tropes were the peak of human achievement, the frog wasn't worth a frick.
