Look at how better designed Raticate is, with all the visible distinctions in the fur and variegated shape. Flamigo is literally just a straight line for a leg and a dull smooth body. I like the face but you can notice the difference in effort from back then to now. Thats somehow unironically reflected in the name too. raticate is still more of an effort at naming than "flamigo". And its a pokemon that obviously needs an evolution yet has none.
Flamigo was designed by an amateur. Its default art looks 2D. Like when unskilled artists can only draw in symbols.
